Another troll moment? Ocarina of Time's running man. Game lets you think at first you can beat him easily, but nope, he always beats you by a second. And it's impossible to beat him, no tricks, gameshark codes, even Miyamoto admitted it's impossible.

@@pikakip3792 Even if you cheese the system as hard as you can (I think you can freeze the timer by exploiting using warp songs but not actually warping) and get to the lost woods with a literal clock time of zero seconds you still lose. He says something like his time is "00:0/" seconds, with a symbol instead of a number.
In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, you are told that you can drink this weird fountain water on Mount Pajamaja. When you drink it, you get the "game over" screen. Then it goes all "Nahh. Jk. Your HP is restored."
This scared me so bad the first time.
That's such a long and trippy cutscene
Another ridiculous blocked pathway in Pokemon is the Lumiose City "blackout" where you can clearly see the lights are on
And the wandering bystander NPCs that can just walk right past the guards that stop you.
My favorite nintedo troll moment is when Beedle gives you your customer appreciation gift in wind waker.

The Japanese name for Nugget is "Gold Ball", the Japanese colloquial term for male balls. Throughout most of the Pokémon series, there has often been an old guy who gives you his "Gold Ball" and then brags about it.

No Magikarp merchant from Red and Blue? I'm deeply disappointed. That was a brilliant emotional roller-coaster that even the anime felt the need to recreate it.
Yeah the merchant promised you a ferocious beast but gave you a god instead,the best kind of trolling.
That's the beauty of it. The merchant finds you early on in the game when you're hungry for as many Pokemon as you can get your hands on and offers you one that you don't have to battle to add to your collection. Of course you jump at the opportunity, only to learn that it's only ability is useless. Then you get the Old Rod and learn just how common and easy to catch Magikarp actually is. However, if you commit to it and help that little flounder grow, it becomes one of the strongest monsters in the game. It's just brilliant from start to finish and the happy ending doesn't make it any less of a genius prank.
The magikarp song even references that...

Eh, Kid Icarus Uprising should've still had a spot on the list. Unlike Donkey Kong Country, the plot twist involves you getting completely tricked over and more than half of the game is afterwards, making what you thought was the final boss, just another boss in the game, and it was amazing.
Not to mention things like Pandora's realm, Mimicuties, Hades, Fake Palutena... and heck, concepts like the eggplant wizard and the plutons.... the series is just trolls all over.
Magma oh i love that game. it messes with you on multiple occasions.
***** The game is filled with trolls, but the plot twist involving Hades is by far the biggest, and that's one of the reasons it's one of my favorite games of all time.

About the White Sidequest:
You actually SEE HIM ENTER THE HOUSE while you're talking to the other Bob-bomb, and yet the game will never let you in there.
And people say the later games were evil.
In Animal Crossing City Folk, my game would occasionally crash, which forced me to have to unplug then replug my Wii... Mr. Resetti knows no mercy...
I once played that game during a thunderstorm and my power shut off.

the worst part about the Infinite staircase is when you finally figure out that you can't go up it. you feel as though you've been running forever, but when you turn around, you see that you actually didn't go anywhere at all

They weren't in-game trolls, per se, but Sakurai certainly had his fair share of trolling moments with the Smash Bros series:
-Ridley's appearance in the Melee intro and the number of confusing hints Sakurai gave about his inclusion during both Brawl and Smash 4's development
-"There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar." (from Lucas's Special Moves page on the Brawl DOJO)
-The first Smash 4 trailer starts off like an Animal Crossing trailer
-The Wii Fit Trainer trailer was presented as a trailer for "an upcoming Nintendo game" live at E3 and started off like a Wii Fit trailer
-"Zero Suit Samus is not going to participate in this iteration of Smash Brothers" (Smash 4 April Direct)
-Greninja's hand looking suspiciously like Mewtwo's in his reveal trailer
-Rosalina's trailer starting off like a Mario Kart 8 trailer
-Chrom's inclusion in the Robin and Lucina trailer
Can anyone think of any more? There's ALMOST enough for a top ten here but not quite.

In Zelda phantom hourglass there is this one guy who is literally a troll....
You save him from monsters and he is like oh yes I should give you something he says thank you...

actually in pokemon uranium there is a similar guy like the first guy. he cries because people stole something from him and you have to defeat the people who stole him. after you give him his money back. he basically says just thank you, and if you talk to him again he says "get out of my house or i call the police" or something like that. apparently he was a spoiled child with lots of money, and the dudes who stole him were said to do good with the money you stole him, so the entire quest is kind of a troll.

Hetsu's gift is arguably the biggest middle finger to all completionist that ever is, was, and will be.
That number 2 actually got me in *Bravely Second's final boss fight.* When the cursor was about to delete my entire save files. I stopped right there and went to check TH-cam for the same moment to make sure that "it was supposed to happen" and that your save files are safe (because boy oh boy if my save files were deleted for real, I would've broken the game in-half and given it a 0/10 in that scenario). lol
What about the girl who trades you a haunter in DPP, but the haunter is holding an everstone?

I've always loved that item. Shame it was removed from the later games.

so after beating medusa, who is supposedly the final boss who you've worked super hard to beat, and then the credits start to play BUT THEN a hand rips through the credits and Hades says "OH YEAH IM THE REAL BOSS" and then theres like 20 more levels.
Then after the final final credits if u wait 5 minutes hades' voice comes up, talks for a bit, breaks the fourth wall, referenes the old games and says " im here to delete ur save file. 1 2 3 GONE!!!!!!!!!" then the screen goes black for a few seconds. But then hades is like "NAH< ITS JUST BANTZ TROLOLOLOLOL"
So that makes 2 credits trolls in one game.
The reason that Super Mario Bros. doesn't let you move left, is that if you did go left, you'd actually find Castle 8.

There's a hilarious troll moment in the first zoo tycoon. One of the tutorials tells you to delete a section of fence in the lion enclosure, then it repremands you for doing so, something along the lines of "what were you thinking? Well, let this be a lesson to you, don't delete enclosure fencing unless you enjoy seeing your guests flee in terror 😂

The Look-alike items in general could be on here. How 'bout that Oren berry, eh? Or the Dropeye Seed? And the less said for the Wander Gummi, the better.
There's also some positive ones...that'll try and ease your guard and have you potentially use their real-but-negative counterparts, like the Dough seed, look-alike for the Doom seed.
I haven't played explorers of sky, but darkness instead. Therefore I could play as Munchlax and not throw reviser seeds at dialga.

Apparently, the April 1999 issue of Nintendo Power had a fake guide for evolving Lickitung into Luigi in Red and Blue. It's just as absurd as all the methods to get Pikablu, Mewthee, ect that kids made up at the time, and I love it

If you complete this VERY tedious sidequest you will not be happy about your reward...since it's a VERY tedious sidequest, most people don't complete it anyway, but in case you want to complete everything you may consider completing this particular sidequest...cause it's just not worth it, at all!
Let's just say, even if you're a completionist, don't bother actively seeking out parts of the collectathon in BOTW.

The Bowser Gift troll was amazing for me. I was playing MP10 with a friend on Bowser's Castle and we were right at the end. I was only barely ahead but I was mortified when I landed on a Bowser space. The wheel spun and landed right on the 100 star present. And I just burst out laughing while my friend was shocked that that actually just happened. And because of that, I won the game by around 5 stars.
When I was younger I was always scared that my DS would die and "Mr.. Mole" would come after me.
I hate April Fool's. It's giving me some serious trust issues with everyone I come across. O.o

Before the Number 1 on this list, my biggest troll moment was in Ocarina of Time 3D's Master Quest Gerudo Training Grounds where the game flat out calls you a loser for opening the wrong chest. It somehow felt WORSE than getting a Rupoor.
I remember Bravely Second pulling that same prank with the save file data. And they had to do it during the fight with the FINAL BOSS. I remember watching my cursor move to the delete, and gasping, "No... you wouldn't...!"

Similar to Mr.Resetti, there's a Bob-omb character in Paper Mario TTYD that runs a daily lotto in West Rogueport. If you turn the Gamecube's clock (it might work with the Wii too) to the next day to get another shot at the lotto, he ultrarages and then penalizes you, making you pay 500 coins before being able to draw again.

I say, Jish he haven't played Animal Crossing. Mr Resetti punish people who reset the game without saving. He do NOT punish time travel cheating, at all.
Gameboy224, if you've played the game enough, he just tricks you into thinking your save file is deleted. It doesn't actually delete. It just looks like it, then the game goes back to normal.
Yes. In that specific version he actually does delete your save file and it's gone for good.
IIRC you have to quit without saving like 300 times or something ridiculous like that, but he actually follows through and deletes your save game permanently.
Resetti never deletes your save file, not even in EU City Folk.. People just went on the internet and told lies.

Nintendo removed it from its main forum, but since this's the internet, and nothing on the internet ever truly disappears, you can find it if you looked hard enough.
There's a subreddit for everything.
If you break 500 (or 1,000, I forget) signs in Zelda Oracle of Seasons and talk to a Subrosia that loves signs, he'll be so angry that he shows the Nintendo and Capcom logos, just like it would when you turn on the game, just to scare you.
