In the pokedex entry for Krabby, it's mentioned that its pincers sometimes break off during battle, but grow back fast. I always assumed that the Kinglers with one big and one small pincer evolved at a time when one of their pincers were growing back, and that the one with two big ones evolved having never lost a battle:) I thought that was a pretty cool theory, so the Kingler issue is not really an issue for me:)
Just losing a battle wouldn't mean not having battle scars. In a real life street fight you could have someone cut your arm off and then stab them in the heart with your other hand. A Kingler with both big claws would more imply not battling at all, or something. Plus, Kingler nowadays is based on crabs that have one claw bigger than the other in real life. Can't remember what kind of crab it is... fiddler crab?
Oh... I just thought that it just had one pincer a bit out further on front of him, making it look like it's bigger than the other.

It makes sense that they would make Blastoise's sprite fatter. It was for the AMERICAN release, after all.

pikachu slimming down is a result of the differentiation in later generations once raichu was introduced. Because pikachu was supposed to have a higher speed stat and raichu was supposed to have the higher attack stat, they wanted that stat difference to be visually apparent. So they decided to make pikachu small and skinny for its speed, and raichu big and bulky for its power.
right, but as the game was fleshed out more, they decided to add those differences in character design to match their stat specifications
PokeYankeefan Raichu is faster and stronger than Pikachu. Pikachu's base attack and sp.attack is 55 and 50. Its base speed is 90. Raichu's base atk and sp.atk is 90, and base speed is 110 (both pokemon as far as gen VI). And if you want to be technical, Pikachu hits harder than Raichu if it holds a light ball and is properly EV trained. So who is the speed and power type now? Without the light ball, Raichu is simply a better Pikachu (and still is in pokemon competitive).

pikachu slimming down is likely due to the show being for kids and having a chubby mascot some how was a negative example to children so they slimmed him

Some of these aren't even frickin mistakes. If it's Gen 1, and the anime wasn't around, how could they mess up an original design? Also, some of these are results of GameFreak just changing a design. That happened a lot back then, and a lot of the time they changed it back.
They could be mistakes as in"not accurate to Ken Sugimori's drawings" but yeah, it's mostly "old sprites that look silly".
Because the sprites weren't the original design. They were based on artwork by Ken Sugimori.

You left out Arcanine, its Red/Blue sprite looks really goofy! Its all crosseyed, its adorable though, lol XD
Oh, and Ninetales, too, they kind of made it look like a small housecat, and its firebreath is waay too tiny! XD
Also, OH MY GOD MACHAMP!!!! Just....Machamp. XDDD
And...Kadabra looks like it has a bad leg cramp and is clutching onto its leg! XD
And who can forget the glory that is Charmeleon's backsprite?
Am I the only one who doesn't really watch any of Jwittz's new videos since almost all of them barely have to do with pokemon?

No, I looked as well as was having a hard time identifying each one. I think back to when I first saw the sprites I thought they were awesome, I still do! It's such an important part of my childhood that I wouldn't change the sprites. Personally I think that Executor is bending over as if it's about to attack or use "Egg Bomb". Pokemon for life! ^^
I'm disappointed that Venusaur was left out. I mean seriously, it's body takes up like 20% of the sprite and the tree looks incredibly thin. He looks like he's being squashed by the weight of the incredibly small tree on his back.

You're on the right track but completely wrong Pokemon... It's actually supposed to be an fetal/infantile version of Mewtwo... (There's actually a Game Theorists video that covers this.) It's also a pretty common theory that Dittos are failed copies of Mew.
But mewtwo comes from mew?
It's kind of a long drawn out explaination but there's a double meaning behind it and the Game Theorist Video probably explains it way better than I ever could. Just search it up if you're interested.

i think that if and probably when pokemon reaches generation 10, rather than create a new slew of pokemon they should have us be able to visit every single continent that exsists in the games so far.like pokemon national
You do notice how much work that takes? It requires lots of space too for the different types of files they'd used, not to mention the artwork. The fact is, I'd rather have one game per game, you'd already have lvl 100 pokemon by the third, or below idk, generation. It's hard to figure out plans for those kinds of things. Two generations would make sense (Heartgold and Soulsilver), about level 50 by the end of one region, but six? Not sure...
cooksandcops actually i have thought about it for a bit, and yeah i would prefer new pokemon, but i still like the idea of pokemon national,
like alpha, omega, or whatever the names will be. and national. as a clebratory "look how far we have come" game
national having its own story, separate from alpha and omega, encompassing the entire world. and referencing the other parts of the world that we havnt seen yet.
have a way to better understand the lore of the world, and the human pokemon relationship. like is hypno hunted down maliciously?
the leveling could be worked around, make it more difficult to get each level. or increase the number of levels possible.

Try making that game, even the best artists still need to work hard. It's going to take a long time, making levels too difficult can change how Pokemon may be viewed for some genlovers (gen 1-4). It's not the same, and you have to actually think deep to understand how the Pokemon creators care about the fandom.

Also these sprites are of the past. They can never be forgotten on the fact that these were the first versions of the Pokemon we all know and love. And they symbolize the evolution of the evolve able Pokemon such as pikachu and mew as well as the ever evolving Pokemon franchise.

I don't know why, but I REALLY like hind-leg-standing Ivysaur. XD I've got a figure of him in that pose, and it's one of my favorites! I do kind of like the bigger Blastoise, too. I think it more accurately depicts his "big boss" sort of vibe, and the fact that he's so darn defensive.

Fun fact:- the European/American versions of Red/Blue was actually a amalgamation of the Japanese versions of Red/Blue/Green. They kept the locations of where the Pokémon appear from Red/Green but used the sprites from the Japanese Blue Special Edition, so Japan doesn't have our Red/Blue.

Ivysaur standing on two feet is a reference to its original pokedex entry.
It can stand on two feet, but it looses that ability more and more with the growth of its flower. Then it becomes Venusaur and standing on two feet becomes impossible, implying that Venusaur could stand upright if not earthbound by its flower.
It must be a massive powerhouse.

Exeggutor is actually looking toward the screen, that's why his heads looks bigger than his body. I actually like the approach they gave it. Also, Exeggcute looks more like a picture, resembling the fearful egg pokemon.

i reckon gamefreak and nintendo are gonna make a gen 1 remake in x and y in 2016 for the 20th aniversary
Either a Yellow remake that allows you to go to all regions as added DLCs, or Pokemon Water/Hydro/Wave Blue to go with Fire Red and Leaf Green

elitegamerliam I know but gen 1 is more likely because of nintendo belief of cheap gaming. Why have people pay $280+ for an ds/ds light or an gba and the games to play them when you can have them pay 70 to get an remake and sell more?
