The official music video for Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2.
Iconic performance of the live anthem Sunday Bloody Sunday filmed at Red Rocks in Denver, Colorado during the War tour.
    #U2 #SundayBloodySunday #Remastered
    Lyrics:
I can't believe the news today
I can't close my eyes and make it go away.
How long, how long must we sing this song?
    How long, how long?
    'Cos tonight
We can be as one, tonight.
    Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead-end street.
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Oh, let's go.
    And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won?
The trenches dug within our hearts
    And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
    Torn apart.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
How long, how long must we sing this song?
    How long, how long?
    'Cos tonight
We can be as one, tonight.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
Wipe the tears from your eyes
    Wipe your tears away.
    I'll wipe your tears away.
    I'll wipe your tears away.
    I'll wipe your bloodshot eyes.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.
And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality.
    And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die.
    The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
    On...
    Sunday, bloody Sunday
    Sunday, bloody Sunday.

Sunday Bloody Sunday'. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

it's about the conflict between Britain and Northern Ireland. It refers to in 1972 British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry Northern Ireland. Fourteen people died, quite a few children. It's referred to as Bloody Sunday. It's still being loosely investigated to this day ( 'On 2 July 2021, it was announced Soldier F would not face trial following a decision by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).)

The sound and energy is a working band just beginning and are still possessed by a hunger that great bands have early but can't be sustained forever. And, for me they have never again sounded as good as they did in those days. Great reaction video.

The version on Rattle and Hum is way better. It was filmed the day of the Enniskillen tragedy when the IRA bombed a parade of old age pensioners. You can feel the anger coming off the stage. Very emotional

There is indeed a lot of energy song and life in this song. It is however certainly not a happy song, I’d rather say it is wild anger at the atrocities of Bloody Sunday where soldiers shot unarmed citizens and an anti-war song in general. I get that it might sound (literally) upbeat compared to a metal version and, yes, Bono's very high energy here, but it's very strange to hear this song described as happy -- given the lyrics ('Broken bottles under children's feet/Bodies strewn across the dead-end street"; "The trenches dug within our hearts/And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart"; "And today the millions cry/We eat and drink while tomorrow they die "). Not happy stuff. I wonder if they've reacted to the Rattle & Hum version of Sunday Bloody Sunday--I can't hear anyone hearing that version as happy, although it's an incredible performance.

I saw them on this War tour 83 which was before this concert, and the October tour in the Autumn (Fall) of 82, where they launched this great song live. Such an amazing concert, as Bono had problems with his voice but still performed drinking loads of water. These were the days that Bono climbed up and stood and danced on on the huge stacks of speakers, no chance of that now with insurance fees.
For me early U2 was far better due to the high energy due to their love of Punk music. Their first 3 albums were the best in relation to this energy, until they slowed things right down and radically changed, and then became world stars.
Thank you for your review, as this concert shows exactly what they were like, and the War album was the last of this style. The amazing album The Unforgettable Sky was their next before the huge Joshua Tree album.

I'm low key amazed that the issue of the song doesn't get addressed at all. This was a cry out about the insanity which was going on in the UK and while it's a good song even without the context, the absense of addressing the context was... Weird, as this is a super political song first, and everything else seconda.

Definitely not a happy song. The Rattle and Hum version definitely more emotional than this one. This song is about Bloody Sunday in Ireland, in which a peaceful demonstration in Londonderry (Derry), Northern Ireland, on Sunday, January 30, 1972, by Roman Catholic civil rights supporters, turned violent when British paratroopers opened fire, killing 13 and injuring 14 others (one of the injured later died). This was a just a piece of many years of violence and bombings in Northern Ireland. Just before the version used in Rattle and Hum, there was a bombing in Ireland and the band was very emotional that day. You Have to watch that video at some point. It is such a heart wrenching performance.

This is hardly before their peak which was more like mid 1990's. Having said that, their recent tours have been amazing.

@@jamesmorrison959 I've made several requests from the 1993 Sydney concert, and I thought they were great then, but they were a bit more mature in 93. You really have to go back to concerts like these in 83 to see why they really were something special...I think your comment is fair.

This song is a true classic but was far from the best song on the album.
It's just my opinion, no need for any die hards to get upset and tell me how wrong I am.
The Red Rocks show was too good. Sometime, you should check out the whole show.
