Red Rocks Amphitheater is a few miles west of Denver. This performance is what brought the band to national recognition. It played a lot on MTV. The band almost canceled the show due to weather, but they made the decision to go ahead. Glad they did, and keep in mind this was in late June.

It does convey the bands stance against violence but more specifically "Bloody Sunday" refers to January 30 1972 when British soldiers killed 13 northern Irish civil rights protesters who were unarmed. If you look up Bloody Sunday you can read all about it. Thanks for the reaction! Enjoyed it!

It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!

Also, since no one has mentioned it yet, Ireland went through a period of around 70 years of low-intensity civil war between mostly Protestant Unionists who wanted to keep N Ireland as part of the UK and mostly Catholic Republicans who wanted N Ireland to become part of the Irish Republic. The Irish Catholics were treated pretty horribly by the English for about 500 years leading up to this, but this song is U2 saying that they're not going to get sucked into those kinds of politics. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" commemorates a massacre carried out by British troops against Irish Catholic protestors in the 70s. To be fair, though, the IRA (Irish Republican Army) did a lot of fucked up shit like bombing civilians etc as well. It was bad all around. The idea behind the white flag was that neither side of the civil war could claim it.

October is U2's worst effort - except for the actual song named "October", a complete gem. Also "Gloria" is an awesome track

If I could pick one other live performance of a song you (probably) haven't heard before, I'd go w/ "Until the End Of the World" from their ZooTV Sydney tour.
Oh yeah, "Please" from POPmart is really good, too...
...and "The Fly" from their Elevation tour...
...also "Ultraviolet" from the 360 tour...
and as far as other music videos go, "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" just slaps

Are you for real? Did you just think that song is about being getting drunk and fighting? It was about 14 unarmed poeple being shot dead by the British army at a civil rights protest.

[shaking my head] Please read about the U2 songs before you review. 95% of the time you totally miss the meaning of the song and you miss an opportunity to learn a bit of history.
