Dolly wrote this as the theme song to her first movie also called 9 to 5. Jane Fonda heard her on the radio and decided she was perfect for the role of Dora Lee even though Dolly had never acted before and along with Lily Tomlin, they created a classic movie.
Please do a movie reaction to 9 to 5 it's such a feel good movie your gonna love it and Dolly Parton's first movie she was Awesome in it & to me personally i think she was the movie. 😚💋😘💞💖🇺🇸🙏😇👍
Quick story for you....I'm born and raised in Nashville TN, and my mom always told me about a day back in 1974, she was carrying me to the car in one arm in a grocery store parking lot and she heard a woman's voice say" excuse me but he lost his lil shoe " so mom turned around to see Dolly Pardon picking up my shoe that had slipped off my foot and was handing it back to her.
Dolly once said her look was "You'd be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap!" and “It's a good thing I was born a girl, otherwise I'd be a drag queen.” Legend
she also said her look is based on the woman her mom would tell her to never be like growing up, she uses a word for it but i can't rememeber it. She thought that woman was beautiful and even that young before all the success you can't tell Dolly who she can and can't be.
@@torigarcia969 Dolly said she modeled her look after “what they called the ‘town tramp’” in her hometown growing up. “This woman that used to walk the streets had all this makeup and hair, high heel shoes. I thought she was so beautiful. And everybody used to say, ‘Oh, she ain’t nothin’ but trash.’ And I used to say, ‘Well that’s what I’m gonna be when I grow up-trash!’ And that’s kinda how I look,” Dolly explained. “But I like to think I’m a little more than that.”
More than that. She's on that UNESCO World Heritage level. I grew up in the 80-90's with the Pamelas and Anna Nicoles and in that light it was easy to dismiss her talent and mistake her for just being a well endowed blonde that people like to look at. I was wrong. So wrong. She's among the best that ever did music.
I just watched your 4 Dolly reactions for the first time, back to back to back to back, and my gosh, the pure joy, and admiration that you instantly felt for 'Aunt Dolly', her voice, her fashion, and her person, was just wonderful to see. Dolly, IS a National Treasure. Thank you for these reactions, Britt, just great to see the younger generation getting into real music.
She would treat you like her niece for sure. My wife is African American and she told me her Uncle went to vist Dollywood and he actually ran into her and she was as kind and gracious in person as she as her stage persona. Great woman. She gives books out all over the country to needy kids as part of her "imagination library" foundation.
You'll love the movie too. My favorite line in the movie is Dollys I'll turn you from a rooster to a hen.🤣 Home Free covered this song and put a funny spin to it
Jane Fonda told how she went & stayed with Dolly & her husband to get to know her before they shot 9 to 5. She stayed a week & said that when Dolly appeared at breakfast every morning she had on her full regalia of makeup & a wig on. She never saw her without them.
You really need to read one of her autobiographies ... she is such a clever and self-aware person too - she's also hilarious! I love Dolly, she's one of the best of us!
Dolly is other worldly, a Goddess! She’s every persons favorite! She crosses all boundaries and speaks directly to the people. A real genuine lady. We are so lucky to have her ♥️
You can't really hear it here since it's live but on the studio version there is a sound that's like a typewriter. That's Dolly playing her acrylic nails.
This is the theme song for the movie 9 to 5, which was also the first movie that Dolly ever starred in. It's very funny and provides a glimpse into what office-life was like back in the late 70s and 80s.
Dolly is an American treasure, really great songwriter, singer, and beloved by millions. I really enjoy her collaboration as the Trio, with Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.
Another endearing attribute of the LEGENDARY Dolly is that you NEVER...EVER...hear her make a negative comment about anybody....ANY-BODY‼️ LOVE HER for that, alone‼️❤️
The song really was an anthem for a while when it first came out. It's been forgotten nowadays, but the big questions about Dolly back then were: --Are her breasts real? (Yes) --Was she having an affair with Kenny Rogers? (No). She did do some duets with Kenny that are worth checking out. You'll get to Kenny eventually, I'm sure. She handled the rumors with class, humor and style as expected of Dolly.
This reminds me of when I was in kindergarten back in late 1970's. I had a Dolly doll similar in size to Barbie. I had it out on the playground my teacher asked if she could see it cause they was admiring it. I remember accidentally over hearing her another female teacher shocked and laughing cause it had the big breast as they had the top of her clothes open lol. I don't remember anything about kindergarten but to this day I remember that day on the playground. I loved my Dolly doll.
This song came out 40 years ago. It's the theme song to the first movie Dolly was in. Fun Fact when the movie became a TV Show Dolly's younger sister Rachel play the part of Doralee Rhodes. Last year Dolly recorded a new version of this song with Kelly Clarkson.
It is crazy to me how well Dollys voice has held up over the years. She obviously has had some dental work but 1) it is barely noticeable compared to many other artists and 2) she makes it work. She is an amazing performer, artist, songwriter! Heck, she is an amazing person!
1:00 You need to stop! Girl, you made me laugh SO damn hard!! I almost choked on my coffee. 😂🤣 Also, YAAASSSSSSS!!! Auntie Dolly ALWAYS looks nothing short of absolutely fierce.
I believe she was on the set of 9 to 5 movie and they came to her to write the theme song, and she composed right there in her trailer, scratching her finger nails together to make the sound of a typewriter. It did not taker her long to compose it.
I saw an interview where she told the story of how she wrote it she didn't have a guitar on set so she clicked her fingernails together to get the melody then she wrote it in a few minutes if you listen to the sound track she starts the song with her nails and uses them a few times in the song
She grew up the hard way. They didn't have much, but they got buy, in life. And God love her!!!! One of the most amazing woman, in such a hard business. She never let forgot her roots.😇😇😇
You need to check out the movie of this, she stars in it with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Also, please make sure you see Dolly in "Steel Magnolias" (the original).
Britt if you have never been there I think you need to pay Dollywood a visit next time you are back in the South! Take the kids as there are tons of rides and rollercoasters plus great music.
DOLLY! living legend! if you haven't since you don't know the song the movie is so good! "listen at you" is some serious country talk! i grew up in the country.
You have to watch the movie this song is from, "9 to 5" But first you need to listen to Loretta Lynn sing "Coal Miners Daughter". She is like Dolly. Grew up dirt poor. After the song watch both movies, "Coal Miners Daugher"(about Loretta Lynns life) & "9 to 5". You will be glad you did. Both movies are great If you love Dolly, you will also Love Loretta Lynn. Whenever l watch one movie, l watch the other.
Fun reaction is always. That movie really is fun I bet you would absolutely love it. I actually saw it in the theater with my girlfriend when it came out.
You love Dolly. There is another country legend, I guarantee you will love. Kenny Rogers. I suggest these three songs. THE GAMBLER, COWARD OF THE COUNTY, LADY. Once you have heard them listen, to the duets by Kenny and Dolly. Start with ISLANDS IN THE STREAM. Both singers had fabulous careers on their own. But when they teamed up and blended their voices, it was magical. Together they just blow you away.
Don´t forget the duet with Kenny Rogers island in the sky (live when they were (semi-young) So much fun. Best of mates. (KENNY ROGERS & DOLLY PARTON - ISLANDS IN THE STREAM - HQ Audio)
We got to see her c live....it was more than anything..... Carl and her just had their 70th wedding anniversary.... Dolly is everything yall !!! You need to all her movies and especially her TV movies .... mainly coat of many colors and Christmas coat of many colors ... they tell her story really well.... there are countless books written..... NOT to leave out all the songs she written for herself and so many for others.... Dolly is truly E V E R Y T H I N G !!! Love your channel ... your amazing Blessings for your world❤
I know this video is old but when you said you wish you could see her live! I been fortunate enough to go to her last tour! First time she been back in Canada in almost 30 year's. It was a night I will never ever forget. Everyone just came together and loved each other, old or young, gay or straight! There were tough guys dancing with older guys. Everyone no matter who or what they are we're all just having a great time together! And she honestly makes the whole show feels like just an evening with Dolly where she's talking and singing right to your heart. She was born for this! There's absolutely no one else like her! Sadly she's decided to retire from touring now. Only doing small shows here and there. If you get a chance JUMP because those tickets sell in under 10 min.
The Movie was called Office Women about 3 women who had a horrible boss, at first the movie was going to be much more feminist but Dolly didn't think the boys would like it as much as the girls she hated the title as well. What started it was they lost the rights to their victory song and so they had to get another song. Lily Tomlin asked Dolly if she would write a song for the movie, Dolly was trying to come up with a theme about working, but one day they weren't shooting just sitting around with Dolly with a guitar. Jane Fonda asked Lily "How long are office hours?" Lily said "I believe they work from 9am to 5pm" Dolly's eyes lit up and she started writing. In just a few minutes she had written the song she started singing it to the crew. They all loved it and the director and the producers told her you just changed the name of the Movie Dolly. LILY WITHOUT MISSING A BEAT SAID, "I helped"
You should watch the movie 9 to 5 if you listen to the song from the sound track the very beginning the sound is her using her finger nails to start the song
Britt you have to find a copy of the movie "9 to 5". From what you mentioned during the reaction you could possibly think that the movie storyline was based on your previous life.
Everyone who has listen to her sing love her ,for her whole career on stage, radio, and TV ,she brings that bright sunshine adituted to Everyone, and enjoyed your reaction thumbs up 👍
WATCH THE MOVIE 9 TO 5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOLLY PARTON, LILY TOMLIN AND JANE FONDA. ITS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. MAYBE A BIT CHEESY BUT IT WAS HER FIRST TIME IN A MOVIE !!!!!!!!! Loving your reactions! I think you'd find the movie "9 to 5" very interesting. Made in 1980, it gives you an idea of what women in the workplace had to deal with. Lily Tomlin was the hard-working, smart single mom that gets passed over for promotion because she's a woman, Dolly is the gorgeous secretary that gets treated like a sex object, and Jane Fonda is a young, recently divorced woman who has never worked before. Plus it's hilarious! 😂
You should watch the movie this song was based on. She wrote it in one day for the movie. Yes, the movie is a KILLER movie as well with three of the best known actors playing star roles!
Love Dolly not only for her singing but her Humanitarian giving as well. You might want to give Edgar and Johnny Winter Tobacco Road live version, Albino's & legally blind turned to music (Thank God), best vocals I've heard in 66 years, but that's if you like something with a whole lot of Soul....
Hi Britt, Dolly always looks good!!! This is the theme song to her movie titled 9 to 5...You should watch the movie too, it is amazingly funny with a great message exposing sexual harassment & managerial abuse of power!!! You can thank me later!!!
You should check out Dolly’s song Coat of many Colors-it’s about a coat that her mother sewed her using fabric scraps. The kids made fun of her but to her, it was beautiful.
You just witnessed Home free do "Man of Constant Sorrow", ironically, they cover this song too (9 to 5). Very funny and amazing as all Home Free songs are. Chris Rupp is in it (one of the original group members), before he went solo and Adam Chance took his place. You should check it out.
you should check out Dolly performing a song she wrote when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Its called Rockin Live. if you thought she looked good here, you need to see what she looked like there. Also, Home Free did a cover of 9 to 5, as others have said. you would love it
Dolly wrote this as the theme song to her first movie also called 9 to 5. Jane Fonda heard her on the radio and decided she was perfect for the role of Dora Lee even though Dolly had never acted before and along with Lily Tomlin, they created a classic movie.

The movie 9 to 5 was a great movie. well worth the watching.
Dolly is certainly a national treasure. A rags to riches success story and she's never forgotten her roots.

This is Dolly at 73 years old. She's a treasure!
I love that you call her Auntie Dolly! 😍 Fun fact, she is Miley Cyrus's Godmother! 😊
I bet Dolly would love it too
She's the definition of feisty. Just an itty-bitty thing, but don't mess with Dolly.
Im 56 and this woman was a star when i was a little kid ,wow

Dolly is such a blessing in this world. So underrated as a songwriter. Fun fact: the movie 9 to 5 is wonderful.
Don't you just ADORE HER?!
You would probably also Love “from here to the Moon and back” - also from a film.
Britt if you have never been there I think you need to pay Dollywood a visit next time you are back in the South!
Take the kids as there are tons of rides and rollercoasters plus great music.
This diva wrote this song on her fingernails. She started hitting them together and realized it sounded like a typewriter.
9 to 5 was Dolly's acting debut. Netflix has a great documentary about her life.
She's the BEST!! I love her!
We went on the backstage tour at The Grand Ol’ Opry and saw the mailboxes they have for the members. Dolly’s is always stuffed full.
DOLLY! living legend! if you haven't since you don't know the song the movie is so good! "listen at you" is some serious country talk! i grew up in the country.
Fun fact Dolly said she would only do the movie if she could write the theme.
She wrote most of the song tapping on her fingernails
What I really find great about Dolly besides her singing is the number of songs she has written she doesn't know how many she says just more than 1000
“Cinched by the Gods “ 😂 that is the best description ever 😊❤ You should check out the movie.

9 to 5 was Dolly's 1st feature film and she came ultra prepared. She had everyone's lines memorized
I believe that performance was done when she was being honored for her 50th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ol' Opry.
You definitely have the best reactions for musical videos on TH-cam!
She sounds like she is coming down with a cold. She is the best and I love love her.

She's always been dressed to the nines and her wigs are beautiful
