I used to post the link to the OEM Honda Replacement O-rings on Amazon, but they are out of stock online.
amzn.to/34laK3W - Honda Power Steering Fluid (3 pack
The Honda Part numbers I found for the O-rings are:
    91345-RDA-A01 and 91370-SV4-000
Just a quick video showing how I replaced the O-Rings on the power steering pump inlet joint and high pressure line where it connects to the pump. The inlet joint o-ring was the cause of the noise and air leaking or being sucked into the power steering pump. This was causing the fluid to foam up and come out of the reservoir. It was also had a very loud whine which was increased when turning the steering wheel.
This is a simple DIY repair and you really just need a 10mm wrench or socket to do it. It's also nice to have a tool to pick or pry out the o-ring on the high pressure line. I believe the TSB from Honda is only for the V-6, but the 4 cylinder models and some Acuras have the same power steering pump problem. It's a very common problem with these pumps. Sometimes the noise will develop after doing a different unrelated repair like replacing the timing chain, or serpentine belt tensioner or alternator. Doing those types of repairs would require removing the power steering pump for access. The lines or O-rings at the plastic joint can sometimes be disturbed enough to leak or allow air to get in the system.
I ended up taking the inlet side o-ring back out and putting it back in a second time because the first time it didn't seal well enough. I think I didn't put enough power steering fluid on it and it probably got squeezed or hung up on the plastic end without fully seating like it should. When I put it in the second time, it worked great and the air bled out of the system after running it for just a few minutes and turning the steering wheel from side to side.
I should also mention that this car is due for a power steering fluid change, which should help quiet the pump down a little bit more.
It is highly recommended to use only Honda Brand power steering fluid.
Repair power steering noise on a 2003 - 2007 Honda Accord. This is the same for the Honda Civic, Element, and others. It will also be the same for many Acura models.
    Thanks for watching!

Awesome video!! My high-pressure power steering line was busted and I thought that was the cause of the whining. After replacing the line it was still there, it turns out my low-pressure line didn't even have an o-ring on it. The noise stopped along with the overflowing as soon as I added the o-ring. Great video along with an awsome explanation!!

Did anyone notice a difference in steering once they replaced the O-rings? Did your steering wheel turn easier?

GREAT video and fix on my 05 Pilot. Took 30 minutes to swap out the black and orange o-rings which Orielly charge $16 for. Seems steep but the result is worth it. Topped things off with Honda PS Fluid $9 pint. Rag underneath to catch oil, bolts, o-rings was helpful. Helpful to take a short video pre and post fix so I could confirm in my mind was quieter. Air seemed to bleed out of the system almost immediately only turned the wheel once each side. Great fix saved a full PS pump replacement for now. :)

Excellent explanation on the two o-rings (red and black). I believe 4-cylinder 2.3L engine size ONLY needs the black o-ring. Dan, my pump only makes the whining noise after 6 or more hours of parking. When I start the car up, it whines in low noise for 10 secs and stopped, and things are smooth after that. These o-ring are actually cheap from the dealers, if they carry them in stocks. eBay are overpriced on these parts, FYI.

I spent $300 for a new power steering pump just to find out this video is all I needed for my problem 😅

First of all great video. However, for those who have a 2007 Civic like I do, this is much harder as they have positioned the pump in the back of the engine, down below. Since I'm not in great shape, I cant lean long enough to do this, so I have to pay someone to replace something I could do on my own if the pump was in a better spot like in this video.

I have a 2005 Honda crv ex with similar noise, but also have choking sound and stress on the steering wheel when turning it full left or right. It gets louder and harder to turn. Research points to rear wheel differential fluid issue. Maybe a gasket needs to be replaced?

I appreciate you posting this repair with a detailed explanation. I haven’t had a problem with a power steering pump but this is very useful to have as a reference. Thanks!

Thank you!! The car sat out in sub-zero temps overnight and started with the noise and blowing fluid out the top the next morning--- this explains it!

  • @hailholyqueen

I did your procedure with four 12oz bottles and it fixed my pulsating steering wheel. Thank you.

Thank you putting up this video for everyone. I had the same issue on a 2005 Accord and it fixed it right out of the gate.

Great video. I did mine as well after following the video and the noise was still there and progressively became worse. Did a flush and added new fluid, still same thing. I rewatched your video, and you said you had to reseat your o-ring. So I pulled mine out to reseat, and it was broke, so apparently I pinched it going in and broke and so the noise continued. I purchased another o-ring and carefully put it on and in and immediately the noise dissipated.

Nice video. I saw many of them from different channels to get an idea of how to change the o-rings on my 2006 Civic. The only problem is that, your car has the easy approach since the steering pump is all the way on the top, with easy access to the lines, as mine and some others years (do not remember the years now) are kind of upside down, have the lines connected more towards bellow of the motor bay of the car, with access from under the car, or taking out the "back plate" in the motor bay to be able to access it from the top. But your video will still helping many people, that because of it, will not fall for some "mechanics" lies that the car needs change the Lines, if not even the Power Steering
