Omg you saved me a heart attack! I thought it was coming from the transmission! That's the exact noise my 07 TSX is making and I noticed the reservoir was empty. I added some fluid and it went away. I will be replacing the O-ring this weekend ! Thank you Jim !
Hey Jim, I have a 2007 Honda Element with 247K miles...great car for sure. I had the exact buzzing noise from my power steering pump and the reservoir had a lot of foam. Mechanic said the power steering pump needed replacement...well, I watched your video and replaced that o-ring ($3 from Honda). Wow!! Solved the problem in less than 5 minutes, no more buzzing and the Element drives perfect. You saved me a LOT of money! Oh, if anyone is getting a P2646 code with the VSA, !, and check engine lights with the rpm not able to go over 2,800 rpm, it's probably the VTEC solenoid needs replacement. Warning!! Do NOT buy an aftermarket solenoid, buy a new OEM Honda solenoid ($162) from the dealership. I tried to save money and bought a Dorman solenoid ($100) from Auto Zone and another off brand from Amazon ($45)...both worked for about 20 miles before the failed. The OEM part solved the problem!! Thank again Jim for your professional videos!! U Da Man!!!
Hi Jim, I am a poor student from Austin, Texas, having a 2004 Honda Accord. I followed your steps and finally solved the issue that the power steer was hard to turn during the cold days when the vehicle was just started, and once the temperature increased to the normal level, it was easy to turn. Less than 3 bucks to purchase the o-ring and a screwdriver to get the job done in 20 minutes. This problem has been there for more 4 years since I owned the vehicle. The former owner told me to pull in some antifreeze. One dealer told me to change the power steering pump, which costs about $500. Another dealer told me to flush the power steering fluid as well as repair the power steering pump for the low pressure, which costs about $400. I understand people want to make money for their work, but I don't think it is the way. I appreciate your time and efforts to knowledge guys like me, who is without any experience of vehicle repair and maintenance. Also, I decide to do the regular maintenance and repair work by myself first rather than asking for help from the greedy dealers. Wish you a Merry Christmas.
Genius! my 2005 HOnda Accord got the buzzing and loss of power steering in the morning of cold day, I followed this instruction and got it fixed in one minute, steering is sharp. Thank you.
Thanks very much Jim, my mechanic said it was the water pump and timing belt making the noise and tried charging me almost $500!!! Turns out it was just a 5 cent o ring...
Great work! Saved my bacon! I immediately thought the P.S. pump was going out. In searching TH-cam I found your video. Worked like a dream! Had it repaired in 20 minutes. BUT,...your holding up the part # saved me...because the guy at Honda parts desk had NO IDEA what I needed...however, I had him turn the computer screen towards me and examine the P.S. parts legend and BOOM!..found it! Anyways....just to say THANK YOU! Cost of O-ring: $4.00 ... You saved me several 100's of $$. Peace and blessings to you!

I want to Thank You This was GREAT to know about. I went and bought a Power steering Pump for $170 and started looking on You Tube on how to do it. Then I saw your fix for the noise. Man you saved me $150. Thank You So much It works Great and I can take the Pump back.
You just saved me so much time and so much money! You are the god! I paid £5 and it took me exactly 3 minutes! My power steering is not making any sounds anymore and plus my ABS light was on and it is gone now so thats a double thank you! Greetings from Europe United Kingdom!
Thanks so much! This fixed it exactly. Bought a $10 o-ring kit from the local parts store and had it fixed in minutes. It did take a little bit of driving to purge the air and get the noise to go away. Two days later after only a few miles of local driving, the noise is completely gone. I had this noise for a while, and even then, it apparently didn't damage the pump thankfully. If I do have to replace the pump down the road, the kit came with two o-rings - the 2nd one I'll be able to use the high pressure side.

wow Eric this worked like a charm. I purchased the $.94 Oring. It took all of three minutes to complete. Thanks a bunch. I was in fear it was a my pump needing replacing.
Good morning. I have the same car...a 2011 Honda CR-V. Do you have the part number for that part? My power steering is making that noise also. Thank you for your time.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a brand new power steering pump, and I just happened to stumble on this. I believe this is the problem on my 02 CRV. Thanks Jim.
@@jimthecarguy Yessir, that was the problem. Just bought 2 o rings for $6 shipped (saving one for a backup, why not? they're cheap), and it fixed the whine right up. Thanks very much my car's noise was loud and I took it to my dealer and he said I don't think the problem is about the o ring . and I told him I believe it is , so I went to Honda store and I got the o ring and I changed the old one with the new one and i noticed that the old one was very thick and hard and the result was amazing I never thought that the solution would be this easy . Jim, thank you so much for the tips in this video. Just heard thar buzzing sound coming off my steering and got me pretty worry. You saved me a few bucks now that I know I can do this myself. Thank you sir!
Thanks for posting this video. I had already priced a new pump when I ran across this. 10 mins and zero dollars later problem solved. Local Honda parts store actually gave me the 83 cent o-ring for free.
thurm101 yes. It is just one small o-ring. The original bad one is but the new one is red. Smaller than you think. 91345-rda-a01 is the part number for my 04 Accord.
thank you so much, im pretty sure this is whats wrong with mine and the mechanic told me 400. i will test it out tomorrow. thank you for your time and knowledge!!

I have a 04 in great condition EX I just hit 95000 thanks for the help I have the same problem and I did not know exactly what to replace thank you so much you saved me from going to a mechanic.
Just changed both o rings on my v6 yesterday. WOW. What a difference! No more loud whining noise on cold mornings. It purrs like a kitten now. Make sure you change the top and bottom one, and bleed the system with the cap off and move the wheel back and forth lock to lock.
I like watching all your videos....straight to the point. Not like other videos that so annoying, they show a lot of stuffs that sometime not related to the topic. Well done Sir...more power to you Sir Jim!
I replaced this on my 06 about 3 years ago but the noise has returned... Im hoping that I just need to replace the ring again and not the actual pump. This a great video--straight to the point with enough detail on how to do it correctly.
Thanks Jim! My 2008 CRV starting making this low whine noise and I was really confused as to where the problem was. You’re a great resource and I thank you very much for saving me $$$.
Good job, Jim: Thanks for your demonstration for the replacement. My 2008 Accord also has same problem. I checked local maintain shops. They said that it have to change a new pump or to replace the whole set of oil leakage seals. It is easy and help work while I saw your demonstration. Now I fixed it. Thanks again.
Our Honda i-VTECH was making the same noise and so many other People we know that has the same thing. The O Ring did the tricks for all of us too :D. 2 Thumbs Up !!!
Thank God for youtube. You saved me a ton of money Jim, I cant thank you enough. Just watching your video I totally got rid of the screeching noise on steering. Thank you again for your great video keep it up!! :)
Thanks again Jim. I just did this repair on my 09 Honda Accord EXL. It was moaning and groaning with each turn of the wheel. I look under the hood and power steering fluid was all over the place. I guess the fluid bubbles up and out the reservoir. So I grab a set of o rings for the top and inlet side. But it’s thanks for getting me in the right direction.
Thank you Jim. I think I have appraised a few of these Civics making this noise and I just assumed it was an old pump. Excellent information. I've come across a few of your videos and they are very informative and well made. Subscribed.
This video really helps me save 2800.00 the dealer was quoting me. I cracked the hose connector tighning too much. The noise is gone. I am happy. How soon should i replace the hose conmector?
That was a simple job, and I have had that problem on one of my current vehicles and had it checked out. I know there are many others who had the same problem also since I hear the noise from other vehicles when we meet, and know they have to get that checked out. Thanks for showing us how to take care of that with just the O-ring replacement.
Jim. I have a 2005 accord. I had the problem your addressing, but mine sucked enough that it caused the power fluid to foam. I added fluid because it became worse. It quieted down, but then foamed and bunch fluid foamed out again. I changed both O-rings because I didn't know any better. I tried to install the o-ring into the housing groove where I removed the old one. I put it all together and started it, couldn't get it to stop foaming and blowing the cap off. I pulled a vacuum on it and it leaked, I opened the suction side and the new o-ring was cut into. I saved the old one so I installed it the way you showed this time, I pulled a vacuum after installing it and it holds a vacuum now. However, I cant seem to get the thing to start foaming and blowing the top off. actually I placed a plug in the reservoir with the tube to allow it to overflow into a container I placed to catch it. It's very noisy and if I let it run 15 seconds, it pressurizes enough to blow the plug out, and make another big mess. I watched another video that said you need to attach a vacuum pump to the reservoir to get the air out. My method to pull a vacuum is to suck on the tubing so I can't hold it for long or start the car or anything else while I'm sucking on the tube. the fumes must just be wonderful for my old lungs as well. Will it be ok to just let it foam and overflow until it finally purges the air, and then add fluid to the proper level?
Hey Jim. I flushed the power steering fluid and replaced the o-rings but I’m still getting the whining noise when turning the steering wheel especially at low RPMs. No leaks, fluid level staying the same at the max line, no air bubbles or foaming at the reservoir. Bad pump? Thx.
Thanks! I did this repair on an 07 odyssey and it took care of the noise. The dealership parts guy called the o ring, RDA. I only replaced the suction side o ring, the orange one. I didn't expect the old o ring to be black, and it appeared slightly thinner in the thickness of the ring. There was more fluid leaked than I expected would be! I had a bunch of paper towels underneath it, so caught most of it. That bolt was really difficult to get at. I had just done a reservoir replacement and this might have been easier to do along with that. If only i had known it was needing to be done too.
Thank you for your video. I had the same noise problem and just went to my favorite auto part to get the o-ring getting in my case the part 91370-SV4-000 that has both o-rings (high pressure hose + reservoir hose) Replaced both and finally the noise gone. Thank you a lot!
Thanks Jimthecarguy.....after watching your how to do it video my power steering is now fixed.......BUT as i looked at the video and you in your NAPA hat i only assumed that you were a NAPA mechanic soooooooooo i went to NAPA for the "O" ring.......(NOT smart) it was $11.47......so I'm thinking it is a special part and would cost a little more ,well i go to install it on the pump...i dropped it down somewhere around the motor and couldn't find it soooooooo now I'm thinking I'll have to put out another $11.47 for another one.soooooo i went to Honda for the "O" ring i work not too far from there and surprise surprise, surprise, 😲 .........OK this will hurt a LOT, the "O" ring price 0.97cent............all was my fault I did not LOOK before I Leaped...let the buyer be were. IN all it was worth it, my power steering is back to new.so THANKS JIM
Thank you! I have replaced 2 power steering pumps due to this noise, make sense now because im not replacing that O ring. This is the 2nd time your videos have helped me. THANK YOU!!
Too bleed the air you said, 'with the car running, work the wheel from stop to stop'. Do you do this with the lid off of the reservoir? Also, do you check fluid hot or cold? Do you fill to the lower mark or upper mark? Thanks for the video.
Thanks Jim! I've had this issue since last winter and had no idea it was so easy to fix. I actually changed both O-rings (top and bottom) since I was already there and also changed out Power Steering Reservoir Tank/Cap and fluid. The bolt for the bottom O-ring was a bit challenging to get out on 2007 Odyssey as not much room but was able to use a small 10 mm wrench.
Thanks a bundle Jim, you've saved me a few bob, as we say in the old UK (a bob is slang for a shilling. Shillings have long gone but we still use the expression). Thanks again.
I also had this problem not just with the O ring but also air was getting past the clips on hose. A bit of gasket sealer spread on the 2 unions where tube joins the reservoir and the pump completely fixed this!!
Hello there, what is the O-ring part number? My 2004 Honda Accord 2.4l started doing same noise when I started it in the morning. This is very helpful, thanks for sharing this video. I also need to flush out the power steering fluid.
Gotta admit, I was jumping back between before and after, and I didnt hear much of a difference. I am getting a whine from my 06 Accord, and I _think_ this is the issue, but looking for a video that has a clip with similar sound mine is making.
Hi Thanks for this video, clear and precise just finished on my 09 Accord with 98k miles on. I have a quick question i cleaned my MAF and Throttle body with respective cleaners and my idle has become so erratic and also CEL P0507 has popped up which is high idle, will you please tell me how to fix this (I also changed the PCV valve with new crush washer)

Thank you. My 2007 Honda CR-V is making noise.yesterday lifted the hood and found the power steering fluid had leaked out on to the top of the power steering container. What you think ? just replace that o ring ? .Good Day
Thank you. Quick question, have you ever used AT-205 Re-Seal in power steering? I have some sort of air, not fluid leak in my system that makes the PS fluid foam up. Tried stop to stop and it relieves the problem for a few miles. My next step is replace the o-rings which I did last year. Now thinking of adding AT-205 after changing o-ring and stop to stop to clear air. I subscribed.
Thanks Jim I have questions please I changed starter few days my honda accord 2008 2.4 but right now when I turn on the key I herd DDD I help my car to start I push bedl gas for turn on quickly
On Odyssey, the noise problem exists on at least 03-10. And on 07-10 Odyssey, that bolt is on the *bottom* of the fitting, making it nearly impossible to access. On my 07, the only way to get on that bolt and still have room to turn it was with an offset wrench. There’s no room for a socket and a standard 12-point wrench won’t have any room to turn. The pump pulley is in the way and an offset may be your only way to get it off.
Just did this on my 2010. I ordered the orings and pump, did the rings first and it worked. Some say the 8th Gen doesn't have this issue but mine did and had the old black oring.
I did this on my 09 Honda Accord during the winter months. I thought I needed a new drive belt or pump. Got the O ring from the dealership. It worked perfectly. I think the airing is orange so they know the change was complete.
Replaced the o-rings. The sound stopped but keeps coming back after 15 minutes of driving. Stops when the car is turned off for around 5 minutes and on again. Then comes back after another ~15 mins. Thought I should change the steering pump. What do you think?
Very great info. I drive delivery n don't check fluids as often I assume every month. My deal was bone dry no power steering fluid -- wen turn wheels tires would totally labor - I'm kinda a idiot- lol llol. Do---- leack as far as could detect came after begining of pump, scn after pump - the hose was stained with fluid. Question is o ring ,hose after front of side of pump? Love to learn n I'm sure fine sir - this how u get more detalided info. Gonna do more research. I'll throw back to u info I attain! Great
Greetings Jim from Venezuela, my question is this, this same procedure applies to a Honda CRV 2008? What particular care should I have when carrying out this procedure myself, greetings and thanks for the video
Do those power steering units pumps for those years of Accords ever developed leaks? I changed the reservoir tank, the two low pressure hoses but the bottom of the reservoir tank still gets wet with power steering fluid.
I wonder and amaze some of the people who put up a sign 👎

Phil Speights I think I am gonna go to the dealership for the o ring. Is it just 1 o ring?
thurm101 yes.
I know I've said this before but these videos are going to help lots of people. If you ever get a judge that says you have to do community service for a crime you can just tell him to go to your channel and tell him "I already did my community service"!
Was making noise everyone I was turning n making a winding noise. Replaced the o-ring. Totally fixed the problem!! Thanks for the video
I have a 04 in great condition EX I just hit 95000 thanks for the help I have the same problem and I did not know exactly what to replace thank you so much you saved me from going to a mechanic.
Thank you!!!... I was having problems with my Acura rsx... I can't believe how easy it was to fix it.. . Thank you for this video...
Just changed both o rings on my v6 yesterday. WOW. What a difference! No more loud whining noise on cold mornings. It purrs like a kitten now. Make sure you change the top and bottom one, and bleed the system with the cap off and move the wheel back and forth lock to lock.
I'm happy to help. Thank you for watching.
Is your car a v6..
Thanks, Jim. Looks the same as my Euro 2.2 turbo diesel. Hoping you've just saved me a lot of money. Thanks again and hi from Scotland
well done jimmy.... you just saved me $500 for a new pump..hello from Adelaide Australia
Thanks Jim! My 2008 CRV starting making this low whine noise and I was really confused as to where the problem was. You’re a great resource and I thank you very much for saving me $$$.
I'm happy to help. Thank you for watching
Thanks to all you tubers on advice for fixing my Honda.
Good job, Jim:
Thanks for your demonstration for the replacement.
And i bought and changed the hole pump. Dam it. I should have watched that video earlier. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
Haven't tried yet but just want to comment that this is a nicely made vid and easy to follow.
Thank you for watching . I'm happy to help. Don't forget to subscribe.
Got the replacement ring installed and my steering now is as smooth as a baby's bottom. Thanks!
@Kareem Ryner I purchased it from the local Honda dealership. I'm in Saudi Arabia by the way.
This also helped the foaming problem I had in the reservoir. 👍👍
Yes same on my 07 SC right know
Efficient and to the point. Great video that confirmed my suspicion on what the noise was. Ty very much!
What store? Advance had it now it is not for sale.
Thanks for all the tips on keeping our Honda's running. Keep up the good work.
I'm happy to help. Thanks for watching.
You are fantastic. Worked for my 2005 Acura MDX. Thanks for posting a money saver video.
THANK YOU!!
Great I'm happy to help you out. Don't forget to subscribed.
Thanks for this video. It fixed my foamy steering fluid cause by air from that old O ring. Plus the noice from steering wheel is gone as well
Too bleed the air you said, 'with the car running, work the wheel from stop to stop'.
David Breiner Great! Glad you watched the video and I appreciate your comment.
Jim on this video you replaced the bottom O-Ring correct? If yes, where could I find the other O-Ring?
Actually I got them at the Honda dealer
Could low powersteering fluid under the low mark cause it from buzzing as well? Jw because i see bubbles when the car is on.
Definitly works . Bought the part for 16$ did the Fix within 6 mins noise gone after
Great Video and I changed my O-Ring, but there is a small leak at the top of Discharge/High Pressure line. How do I fix that problem?
Thanks a bundle Jim, you've saved me a few bob, as we say in the old UK (a bob is slang for a shilling. Shillings have long gone but we still use the expression). Thanks again.
Ty for that information and demonstration! I wonder is there any other power steering o ring that could need replacing?
I also had this problem not just with the O ring but also air was getting past the clips on hose.
A bit of gasket sealer spread on the 2 unions where tube joins the reservoir and the pump completely fixed this!!
Awesome easy fix! QUESTION: Will the same part # work for a V6!???
Hi Mr Jim, after o-ring replacement. Do you have to bleed the steering pump? Thanks fir this informative video by the way
Did you find out?!
Yes Sir i completely followed your video tutorials it’s working great now THANKS again!
My 2003 Honda Element is the all wheel drive version. So, is the O ring part # 91345-RDA-A01 the appropriate O ring for my Element version ?
Hello there, what is the O-ring part number?
My 2004 Honda Accord 2.4l started doing same noise when I started it in the morning.
This is very helpful, thanks for sharing this video. I also need to flush out the power steering fluid.
You will need to contact a dealer to make sure you get the correct o ring. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video. I like it's an easy repair like that. Sadly easy repairs don't happen to often. But you always do an amazing job. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for sharing them. I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Thank you for stopping by.Your right some time an easy repair gets over look and the pump is replaced.
Hey Jim appreciate many of ur helpfull fix.....i have 04 acura mdx ....replace all 02 sensoR (4) total............i see a check engine light and vtm4 light................stop car start up only check engine light..........after a while driving (about 10min. ) vtm4 light come on............how to fix this..........sir.........thanks
Hey Jim, Thanks for the video. What is the description of the ring called at the part store
Thank you, sir. That was a very informative and useful video. Love the northeastern accent!
Thanks man! This worked great on a 2008 Honda Element. Thanks for the tip about the rags over the alternator, too. I appreciate it!
Joseph Stephenson I'm happy to help thanks for watching
Hey .. I have element 2008 as well . my steering is hard and making noise ... Does this help you to loosen steering aswell or just noise.. Thank
Great
I did this and it really works my cars noise completley gone and fixed thank you
Thank you for watching . Don't forget to subscribe.
hello very good video; a question, what is the o-ring part number?
Does the 2.4 litre engine & the 3.0 litre engine in the 03-07 Honda Accord use the same power steering pump O-ring?
Great video, easily fixed the noisy power steering and bubbling fluid issue on my Accord. Thank you!
