Im a hairdresser, now retired. This is an excellent tutorial! I have mine in a similar layered cut but a bit longer. Its thinning a bit now but since first lockdown I have cut my own. Hubs will just "bob" the back for me .. Saved so much money! Thank you for posting, its all a learning curve from each other. Love women helping women!! xx
hi~ connie. It is your friend who lives in South Korea. A few month ago, I saw in another video that you cut your own hair. I bought a pair of beauty cutting scissors right away and tried cutting my own hair. It was unexpectedly good!!! It saves a lot of money and is fun. After watching your video today, I learned the tips of cutting my own hair, so I should try it too. Your are my teacher of English and hair cutting . Thank you so much, take care ~~~
Thank you for your excellent, detailed instructions. I’ve had a pixie for several years and a couple of months ago decided to let it grow out a bit and do it myself. I am tired of spending $80-$100 every six weeks and not getting good hair cuts
Woohoo! Love this video. Thanks for sharing your techniques. I cancelled my future haircut appointments about two months ago and have started cutting my own pixie. Not only does it save money, but it’s so empowering. I love the creativity that I get to use-it’s like art 💕. My latest tool is a feather razor, and I was able to give myself some cute, soft, feathered baby bangs.
I started cutting my own 4 years ago. It helps to start in colder weather when it's hat season for the first few tries lol. I have very thick hair and investing in a pair of thinning shears was a game changer. It has made layering so much easier. I encourage everyone who has been thinking about this to give it a try. It takes practice but the freedom is so powerful. Besides the money savings, I no longer have to search for a stylist who understands what I want nor do I have to work around their schedule.
I totally agree with you that letting your hair be your natural color is a smart move. I stopped coloring my hair because I didn’t like how the color was damaging it, and embraced my silver strands. My hair feels so much better and I am not wasting money. I had tried cutting my own hair after I went nearly 3 years without a haircut, I did the put it in a high ponytail and hack some off with craft shears. Shortly I met my husband, it came up in conversation that I needed to cut my hair and I told him how I do it. He told me that he could do it for me. I was impressed! He had good hair shears, hair clips, combs and a styling cape. He did the full sectioning and cutting my hair in increments. Now I have him give me a trim every couple months to keep my ends neat. I have him braid my hair in French, Dutch, fishtail and variations of those braids. I get compliments on them and I get asked how I do them. I tell them I take a seat and tell hubby what I want. I also cut his hair for him, so we are both saving money.
I'm impressed that you can cut your own hair! I can trim my own hair a little, but a full haircut is beyond me. My hair has really thinned out as I've aged (I'm almost 70) so that I let a professional layer-cut it so that it disguises the bald spots on the top. I've noticed that she uses the same point cut technique while cutting vertically instead of horizontally, but never understood why until your blog. I love how flattering and cute your haircuts are. Happy Thankgsgiving!
Already mentioned that earlier: cannot stop looking at you. You ARE a beauty, like your voice and you speak authentically. 😊 and i like your natural hair color. Same with me. Almost 60 and had grey hair at about 50.
Hei Connie, thank you so much for this video. I wasn’t happy with how the hairdresser cut my hair for a while. Today i cut my hair, using your tips step by step and my hair looks very nice and much better now😍. I even canceled my new apointment at the hairdresser, i do it myself from now on, just like you❣️tusentakk from Nicolette (59) in Norway❤🤗❤️
I've always admired your hair since I found your channel and so pleased to know it's all your own work ! I have been cutting my own hair for about 40 years although I probably go to a hairdresser once a year to get a bit of a restyle then I just trim it myself . I've always felt like I shouldn't mess with a stylist's cut but then it is MY hair and I love the freedom of knowing that it will look just as good if I snip at it ! Thanks for sharing and good to know I am not alone !
Thank you Connie! Very good video! I’m now 73 and have been cutting my hair some of the time ( probably most of the time) since the shag haircuts were in!! I used to watch what the stylist would do and then just try it myself! The price these days is just crazy! Now I section off the crown like you did but include the sides from the ear forward. I wear bangs also and it really looks similar to your cut ( you are younger and cuter) but I leave the back long but ALWAYS wear it up, usually with a clip but have recently discovered the messy bun on TH-cam and I can actually do that!! I’m actually pretty surprised at how good it looks because I know that description doesn’t sound good but I blend the sides and don’t take much off all at once! I’m grey of course but have been going to a cheap salon and having them just bleach almost white just a few chunky face framing pieces to give some cute contrast and I really do like it! A friend-stylist long ago said that she didn’t understand why older women all seemed to go for the little bubble cut when there’s cute short styles like yours!! Thank you for reminding me of the point cut because I think that will add the texture I’d like! Even at 73 we still care…. I just bought some boot-cut jeans…really a trip down memory lane but I just love them!! 💕
Connie, you look marvelous! Thanks for sharing how to cut your own hair. I'll try it one day, but not soon since I kept my hair like your style more than 20yrs😁 I now keep my hair long and straight to stay away from the so expensive salons. I wear it in a bun for work, and pony tail or loose on the weekends. I only cut it every three years and just get a trim to manage my hair better on a daily basis😄
Your hair always looks great Connie 👍and the style is an inspiration to me as I love that look - You give yourself better haircuts than I've paid to get at times over the years 😊
You are beautiful, you can wear any style! I have let my hair keep growing. I refuse to spend my food money on my hair. Great video and very stylish haircut.
You have beautiful hair! I've cut my own hair for years, mainly because anytime I find a hairdresser who does a cut I like, they move. During COVID lockdown, I actually just let mine grow. It is thick, coarse, wavy, grows very fast. I let it grow to my mid back , got a wild hair, put it in 2 dog ears, and whacked em off. Thick and wavy hides a multitude of sins. Lol I'm also almost 60, and have very little grey. What I do have is around my face, so I try to cut/style it to showcase the grey, because I love it!
I just found your site and you speak to my 72 year old soul! I have been cutting my short hair for over half my life with no regrets! Besides my mantra says it all for me … “The difference between a not so good haircut and a great haircut? TWO weeks!” ❤ I look forward to my life journey with your input! Peace
Thank you. I've wanted this video since I first found you. My hair is long because I'm not brave enough to cut it short. Cutting long hair is easier. Your style is adorable on you.
Very interesting video as always! I sometimes cut my own hair and even dye it, cause I find going to the hairdresser very expensive and time consuming and to tell the truth many times I am not happy with the result when returning home. I believe that the more we practice, the better we become and we learn from our mistakes.
I love to see this kind of video! Your hair always seem so nice in videos, and to hear that you cut it yourself is an eye-opener! I recently heard another woman, who also has a very nice hairstyle, that she also cut her hair by herself. I love it! In our world today it feels like you always "need" so much expertise to do things, and of course there can be a difference between me cutting my own hair and a hairdresser doing the same thing BUT that doesn't mean that I can't cut my own hair and still look great!! Thank you!
Hi Connie - I really enjoyed watching your video on how you cut your own hair. I thought that I was the ONLY woman in America "cutting my own hair". I've spent tons of money in the past to professional Stylist. But when my budget couldn't afford the cost, I decided to cut my own hair. I did take a crash course in Cosmetology in my senior year in high school. That is when my interest started in cutting & coloring my own hair. You have nice looking hair Connie, so it looks good & professional. Thx, Connie. 😊
During the pandemic, I began to cut my own hair and yes, point cutting is the best method, I did not tell anyone I was doing this as I feared that the mistakes might become more obvious while I was learning, Still I was pleasantly surprised to find that other women would compliment my hair while they were NOT going to their hairdresser for fears of getting ill, I have now grown my hair into more of a pixie bowl cut and so far so good. I am collecting pictures off of Pinterest too--and I have so many of women who grew their hair and what it looked at various stages as they let some of the layers grow out a bit, This has been a great resource for knowing what I want. I still have a hairdresser do my highlights and they are painted on in a balayage method. I was very happy in mid-October with the results and still am as some of the shorter layers catch up to longer ones. Thank you for this video. I, too, have saved a lot of money and TH-cam has great instructions. Some of my favorite videos are of watching hair stylists cut hair.
Connie, I have been waiting for this video forEVER!!! Thank you sooo much. You make it look so easy! The only cut I have done myself is the buzzcut, no skills necessary for that one LOL I am now growing it out and want to trim it myself but terrified! I'll try you way and see what happens.... fingers crossed!! Thanks again, love ALL your videos Connie x
So brave. I too started cutting my own hair this year. Challenging yes! I found after the 1st scary cut it gets easier. Not so bad! Looks pretty good! And I saved 200+ $! I did pick up some pointers from you so thanks!! Happy holidays.
Your results look pretty good. Having given haircuts to my boys as well as my wife and other ladies with different hair lengths, I have found that shorter hairstyles are less forgiving. I see you sectioned your hair and cut manageable amounts so that you have better control and can blend it better. I have seen many bad haircuts where you can see the scissor marks, done by the salon stylists. I give you two thumbs up for saving money and getting good results.
Very brave, Connie!!! During the first months of Covid I tried to cut my own hair. I found it extremely hard to aim the scissors by looking in the mirror🙄 I was very careful not to cut too much, but I guess I was too careful, as you could hardly tell that anything was done. Never tried again and I was so happy when the salons opened up again 😅
Thanks so much for this video! I've been cutting my hair for more than 30 years but it is so great to see how others do it. I love your pixie cut and it is a style I have had in the past but not nearly as cute as yours. My hair is very similar to yours in texture and amount of curl so I think it will work. I've had a tab on my computer open with your video on it for more than a week until I could work up the mental energy to really watch it and get out the scissors. This would be a perfect cut for the new year! Thanks again!
Connie ur hair looks great I have long hair have not had it cut since covid 3 yrs ago when I get the courage I will go as short as urs I too plan on trimming it myself thanks for the inspiration ur so naturally pretty
Thank you for showing us how to cut your own hair. Very helpful and fun to watch. I've been cutting my own hair for years and will never go back. Let's just say you know what you're getting into when you do it yourself, lol. Even with mistakes. I love your style and how you cut your hair. It really suits you. Super job!
I hadn't tried point cutting my pixie cut except for my bangs. But my hair was looking too blunt and not blended in, kind of lumpy looking on the sides. So I tried point cutting it though I made deeper cuts into it because of the bluntness. Normally I probably wouldn't do that. My hair is very very thin and fine, completely straight so it's always a challenge for me and I end up trying to fix my haircuts when they don't look right. I can't afford to go to salons, especially now that salons average $45 plus tip in my area. Plus I have had bad luck getting a good haircut so it would be a complete waste of money. Thank you for your video. You look great.
Hi Connie, I too cut my own hair for about 3 years since hairdressers were not available during the pandemic. It’s one of the best things I have done. I think it always looks perfect!
Your style is really really cute! I've been cutting my own hair (and family & friends too) for well over 30 years. I learned as I went along. Yup sometimes I messed up ..mostly on my own hair! But at least I'd not spent money on a 'professional' haircut only to be sorely disappointed. Sometimes I use a scissor, sometimes I use a scissor along with a clipper depending on the style I'm cutting. I think it's great to cut one's own hair. If you have fine/thin hair as I do, getting a stylist who truly understands that type of hair is a true challenge!
Hey I feel totally represented, I have my gray hair since my 20 too, I know what you mean, I cut my hair too and love it . I want to cut it more but little by little. Thank youuuuu! Love your channel ❤❤❤
Good job… Your hair looks beautiful… I’ve been cutting my own hair now for about three years, and I just get a such a feeling of satisfaction by doing it myself… I’ve made a few mistakes, but that’s how you learn… And it’s so much cheaper :-)
I stopped being able to go the hairdresser in lockdown. So three years later I had let my colour grow out and the grey grow in. Absolutely loved it! And decided to cut the dye off the ends. Terrible cut! 😂 so I just started to let my hair be it’s natural curly instead of drying straight. It hides alot of issues 😅. I also cut it dry and curly now. Just hack into the curls. Seems to work!
I fully agree that hair care costs can be crazy high and going the DIY route is a great idea. Hubby is the family barber and stylist. Between my regular trims on my long hair and my two teen boys, whose thick hair grows like weeds, I figured we save over two grand a year, not including transportation costs or the value of our time. Three years ago when the government shut down the shops and everyone was going crazy, we got our haircuts on schedule. I even had a couple friends visit and ask for haircuts. My best friend just wanted her ends trimmed, but my other friend wanted her overgrown pixie with a mullet thing on her neck and bangs in her eyes seriously pruned back. Being he had given hundreds of haircuts to the boys, I asked him to do it for her. He cut her hair quite short as she asked, despite not being a fan of short hair on a lady, but it it definitely a great skill to learn. Your hair looks really good, I would say better than many wonky haircuts I have seen on other women in the grocery store and at church. I just remain silent as I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Connie, I've always admired your hair, both the color and the cut. I never would have guessed that you cut your hair yourself. It looks amazing. (Very Kathleen Kelly-ish from You've Got Mail.) I've gone "natural" (gray) myself and usually cut my own hair, maybe getting a professional haircut once a year. But mine is longer (past the shoulders currently), which I think is a bit easier to cut. I would love shorter hair and may just brave this cut. Thanks for the great video.
Connie, just want to say you are so beautiful. I’m 57 and still have my original hair colour, I hope that when it does go grey/silver, that it looks as pretty as yours.
I’m 59 and starting to get gray. So far it doesn’t bother me at all and I actually get lots of compliments on it. I don’t have the patience or the budget for trying to keep it colored. lol
Your hair always looks so good so you do a great job on cutting your hair, also you are such a pretty lady, I think you would great in any hair cut. Thank you for making the video..
You do a great job cutting your own hair. I have had my hair similar to yours and really liked it (with bobs being my fave). I refer to this type of longer pixie as a Meg Ryan type cut (think French Kiss and others).
I cut my hair by myself since 23 years. It was very interesting so watch how you do it. At the moment I wear a shorter pixie than you and I love my grey hair. I'm salt and pepper since my 20's. 😅❤
You do a great job! My go-to haircut is a bob. The cutting has to be straight, so I would need a very steady hand to accomplish the straight across look. I find it difficult to even find a hairdresser to finish the cut without me having to cut a few missed pieces. So, correction haircut is my specialty.
Thank you Connie! I was dying to know who cut your hair! It was you OMG😮 you are awesome! Going to let my grow a bit more and try your method 😳😳 I will keep you posted. Happy Thanksgiving 🍁
This is great 👍, thank you. On another note, I love the cut of the black tank top that you are wearing in this video. If you don’t mind sharing, where is it from?
you make it lookeasy. my hair is fine and curly and gray. like your tips to cut. perhaps will give it a try. have cutmy hair however i like the cut in approach. thanks
Yes, went grey iny early 20s as well, my Husband still has jet black hair, not one Grey! Argh!!!! Love your hair and haircut, your a beautiful lady! Happy Thanksgiving, hope you guys are having a lovely Day, evening or whatever time you get this, Be Well 🕊️
I've cut my own hair since I was in my 30's, altho I used to go to a professional once in a while. Forget that. I have fun cutting my own hair, and other people's too. A lot of people say the hair finally looks like who they are. Yep.
Is your skin and haircare still the same as the video you did approx one year ago? If not, can you do an updated video? You have beautiful skin and hair!
How often do you have to cut? With your nomadic lifestyle have different locations (with unique lighting and mirrors) impacted your hairstyle? Thank you for the tips! I cut my 10 yr old boy and 7 year old girl’s hair and the point cut method will help with the blending. I’ve definitely made mistakes which I’m reminded of every time I look at my children’s hair! 😝
You have encouraged me to start cutting my own hair again. Haven’t been very happy with the professional haircuts and they’re quite expensive. I like the way you cut and style your hair, it gives it that very personal touch!
I wish someone would do a video on how to style your hair with blowouts, flat irons, etc. I had to cut my hair short after surgery, because my hair fell out in chunks. It has now grown back to shoulder length. But I have arthritis bad in my hands, have a hard time holding all these tools, plus a mirror to see what I’m doing. Salons are back open, but not the same. They charge different prices as you go along. They won’t give you a price on what you want when you call your make an appointment. Wish I could find a place that didn’t rip you off. Same with everything, no wonder people look horrible. You get to where you don’t care. She is obviously young and her hands still work. 💇
Love women helping women!! xx

Yes!!! Yes!!! I have been waiting for this forever. I suggested it and am thrilled!!!

Thank you! It works very well! My search for a hairdresser for dry hair is over. Thanks to you, I am now one myself.
You are beautiful, you can wear any style! I have let my hair keep growing. I refuse to spend my food money on my hair. Great video and very stylish haircut.
Every single video of yours i watch, I admire your gorgeous hair and how beautiful and young/energetic you look!
Totally agree, Connie looks young and beautiful
You have beautiful hair!

Was about to dye hair and watched your video. Tried it, amazing!
I have very thin hair after my car accident. This looks great. Thank you Connie 🌱
I cut my hair today for the first time...Your video helped me to start this on my own...Thank you so much....❤
Yayyy! We’ve all been waiting for this one!! 💗🎉 thank you beautiful, inspiring girl!

I will try!
Thank you so much, you read my thoughts!
Super job!
A badly done job is a well done job! 😜
I’ve always thought your hair is so cute!
Thank you, Connie, and thank you algorithm for bringing this video to my feed!
I have been tempted to cutting mine, thanks for video.
Happy Thanksgiving wherever you are❤
Your style is really really cute!
Love your haircut! I want to give it a try soon. I've just started cutting my own hair, but not so short yet. Looks so comfortable!
I was waiting for this video thank you
Your hair is gorgeous!
Hey I feel totally represented, I have my gray hair since my 20 too, I know what you mean, I cut my hair too and love it . I want to cut it more but little by little. Thank youuuuu! Love your channel ❤❤❤
I had my first grey hair at 13 or 14.
Good job… Your hair looks beautiful… I’ve been cutting my own hair now for about three years, and I just get a such a feeling of satisfaction by doing it myself… I’ve made a few mistakes, but that’s how you learn… And it’s so much cheaper :-)
Yes! The satisfaction that one can do it by yourself is great!👍
Your hair really looks lovely 😀
New subscriber here! I'm binging on all your videos... going through a divorce and a mom of two amazing teenagers.... reevaluating my whole life.
Finally! I’ve been waiting for this video 😊
You do a great job cutting your own hair. I have had my hair similar to yours and really liked it (with bobs being my fave). I refer to this type of longer pixie as a Meg Ryan type cut (think French Kiss and others).
Im usually pretty good but am currently enduring a "not so great" self cut. Ill be okay though 😊
You do a great job well done
I love your hair, you are wo pretty 🌸💞
Beautiful Connie!! 👌👌
You could always use a Flowbee... I read somewhere that George Clooney uses one. Infomercial from way back.
I cut my hair by myself since 23 years. It was very interesting so watch how you do it. At the moment I wear a shorter pixie than you and I love my grey hair. I'm salt and pepper since my 20's. 😅❤
Thanks!
I use dressmaking zigzag scissors. Creates separation easily. Choppy, funky with hair paste.
brilliant!
Yep.
I do the unicorn haircut (wolf cut). Easy peasy. 😊
You are GORGEOUS.
Amazing. You look beautiful with both the color and cut! 👍
You had a lovely perm in Troll 2.
Hello from China, I really love and admire your hair, it is so cool, did you dye your hair? is it your original color?
You have encouraged me to start cutting my own hair again. Haven’t been very happy with the professional haircuts and they’re quite expensive. I like the way you cut and style your hair, it gives it that very personal touch!
U have quite easy to cut hair but i curly so i m not attempting mine. Ur hair cut looks lovely ❤
As a man, I just do a buzz cut at home! My brother sometimes does it for me - he’s better at it than I am!
Super schön, so fransig ich glaube ich wage es auch einmal😀👍👏🤩
I love your hair color
I’ve been cutting my own hair for many decades. I have had some training though 😉The back is the hardest.
I cut my hair and all of my family for 30+ years, and I am not hairstylist.😊 but last 5-6 years going to hair salon
I have cut my own for 6 or more years, now. (Curls are forgiving.)
Very impressive. I have short hair like yours but it is thick. Not sure how successful I would be.
Very nice….
Often trim my front sides and bangs before time to go back to hairdresser, saves $ as I don't go as often. Important tip, don't rush when doing it, 😂
Do you have a picture of the one you use?
Your cut is nice.
Boys and Girls haircuts with Radonna on youtube is very helpful on cutting the crown, slants to cut, point cutting, etc.
It's beautiful
What's it called? The sloppy moppy?
I've been cutting my hair for many, many years. When I shattered my shoulder I let it grow out until I was able to cut it again.
I have cut my own hair since 1997.
I'll say you've got guts. Don't think I'm that brave.
