I just followed this tutorial to cut my own hair for the very first time, and it's amazing ! I was able to get a nicer cut with layers that fit my waves so much better than what my traditional hairdresser does on me ! I didn't take off more than what I wanted (which is what I was afraid of), I didn't cut too many layers, it still looks full and voluminous. Thank you so much for making this updated version, I'm so happy with myself !
This is exactly how i Cut my Hair ❤..and the Difference is amazing🥰..i cut my Hair over 5 jears now..a good Scissor is a must👌🏼..it is easy and my Curls/ Waves look so much better after a little Trimm ❤..
Aw that’s so lovely thank you! I have been awful at making long videos for TH-cam and I’m planning to be much more regular so please let me know any ideas goes videos you would like to see
Did my first cut today and it went really well! Like you, my hair is more curly underneath a straighter top layer. I didn’t take too much off but can already see a difference. Thank you!
My best friend is a licensed beautician and she cuts hair this way too. Take a little bit off, have the client look, and if more is needed she can take more off. No you can’t glue it back on if you take too much.
I just tried it! I'm amazed! My hair looks sooo much better. I've been dreading going to the stylist because I just need a trim, I'm trying to grow my hair out after some damage by coloring then bad advice to "detox" causing further breakage. This is a perfect trim and my hair feels so much better! Thank you so much!
Wow your hair came out great! You inspired me with your last hair cut video and I cut my own hair in layers for the first time and loved it. It's time to do it again.
Thanks so much for your videos! I successfully cut my own very long, super thick hair. It took about 2 hours but I don’t think I can go back to my hairdresser now, don’t tell her pls!!
Great results Marisa! I too cut my own, to a layered bob about chin length. Because I tend to let it grow out quite a lot in between cuts, I have a two-step process. I first cut the overall length wet using ponytails. 1 at the back to fix overall length, then 1 each side where I use the back length as a reference for the sides. This also sets the stage for layers. Because I can easily cut 7-10 cm my curls freak out a bit, so I wait a few days for them to settle and then cut dry curl by curls like you did. Maybe I should do a dry cut more often to make it easier! 🤔
Girl, you described me to a T. I wait too darn long, and my hair gets too darn long. 😂 Much more difficult to cut myself when it gets like that, but I never learn.
I did it! I already had the basic shape from a curl specialist haircut a few months ago but I followed your steps and it came out every bit as good 😊 you've saved me £100 on a haircut. I'll definitely do this again, THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤
This is amazing! I thought hair like this was from product. I also thought someone else had to cut your hair. I'm saving your vid and I'm definitely going to follow it snip by snip. I hope mine turns out half as good
@MaximumCC have you tried it yet?? I'll be giving it a try this week. I'm also starting from scratch! It has been a year since I've cut my hair so all my layers are long gone.
Your hair looks amazing 😍🤩 I just may give that another try. I can do the majority of my hair, it's just the top section of my hair that's mostly straight and shaping it, that I'm unsure of.
Part of my problem is if I let it go too long, my curls pull out and then I don't have distinct curls to work with. Have to keep trimming it and shaping it as it grows.
Your voice is sooo soothing! I tried DIY wet haircuts earlier, and it worked to some extent, but not a lot. Now I understand why! Going to try this out. Thank you for the video! It makes a lot of intuitive sense.
I so appreciate your videos; this type of self-cut has been working for me as well. Last hairdresser I went to ripped thru my hair; HATED how that felt! I’ve cut my hair twice since early summer and FINALLY seeing length happen, along with definition and volume. Thank you! 😃🥳🎉
This is a great tutorial guideline and I will try it! Thankyou so much for all of the specific and detailed info here! It turned out beautifully on you❤
Uhuh... going to do this later... i usually do it my self... keep an eye on my hair and cut the curl that is dtarting to stick out ... going to give a try this way :)
@MarisasCurls i am sure it will... brcause its usually what i do... but always need to refresh my memory so its good today... i can plan that kkkkk will let you know ;)
oh my gosh! Thank you! I just asked you recently about this & watched your old one! I am not sure if I should do or have someone do 1st. Haven't had cut in good while
I just found your channel and am definitely going to try the cut! Can you do a style with me video? Featuring the products you use and how you style your hair?
I want to try this but I do have a concern. I am worried about pulling each piece of hair forward to cut vs cutting each piece where it normally would lay. Since it is small sections cut at a time it may not be the same as pulling all your hair forward and cutting it all at the same time. I just want a nice and even, rounded look in the back. What are your thoughts?
If you pinch the hair where it lies and then bring it forward to cut while still pinching, you won’t be over-directing the hair and you will cut it as if you had cut it in place. I’m sorry it’s hard to explain in text. But I promise it works 😃 I have been doing it like this for years
Your hair is beautiful Marissa. Im definitely going to tey try this next time I cut my hair as i cut it a couple of months ago as I i hadn't cut it for about a year and it was long and stringy so I the unicorn cut in about 3 sections as like yourself I have fine hair but a lot of it. It looks good and has good shape but to maintain this shape now and not take as much off as I did ( as wont need it this time as has had rhe initial big cut and tidy up. Took about 4 inches off ) last time , I shall be trying this. I've saved your video to refer back to. ❤
Great video! Im tempted to try! My hairdresser cuts my hair wet and my curls underneath are much more springy and ringlety like you mentioned. I’m curious as to whether you cut your own hair while it was still damaged which js where I’m at currently. Nearly 8 months of nurturing but I still have damaged top layers where as the bottom is much happier x
I did! My first diy cut was right at the very start of my curly journey and all I did was just trim the very end off each curl. Over time I developed my technique to what it is now by picking up various tips from stylists and other creators
I do love cutting my hair also and when people notice. Then I can say "oh I did it this morning" and I get a lot of shocked looks that I actually cut my own hair. I had my hair cut over ten years ago by a stylist and was charged $100. I do have a lot of hair and I think they charge even more for curly girls now. I can conservatively say I've probably saved over $100,000 just from cutting my hair for the last 35 years. As an adult I've had someone cut it maybe three times and the cost always shocked me. I guess I should of just put that money in savings. I do color my own also. I have taught my 15 year old son to cut his own also and he has been for several years now. I also taught my husband and he has for 20 years or so, I used to cut it the first couple years of our marriage along with my son's when he was small. So girls, pretend like you're paying someone and put the money in your savings or money market account. FYI Chamomile tea helps prevent gray hair. Great video I do it pretty much the same way, but will have to try pulling it to the opposite side to see what it does.
Yes definitely. I would probably do a butterfly cut first to get the length where you want it and to add a few base layers. Then you could wash and style it and see how it’s looking and if you wanted more shaping you could follow this video.
I'm so disappointed I didn't follow your suggestions here or even Manes by Mel and cut my own hair 😢 I'm only two months into my transition after realizing my hair is curly and was afraid how it'd turn out not having my curls fully forming yet. I went back to my stylist who has cut my hair for years while it's been straight. I asked for long layers....she used texturizing scissors when doing whatever it is she did. My hair was so full and one length now it's choppy, super thin and my right side is shorter than the left by a couple inches. No more. I'm buying scissors. I can "mess" my hair up for FREE!
Oh noooo I’m so sorry. Texturising scissors are the absolute worst for curly hair. But it will grow and now you know never to let another stylist use them on you. It’s criminal how many stylists have no clue about curls.
@@MarisasCurls luckily it's summer here in the States and the Midwest can get pretty humid so updos will be the go to for awhile. I'm used to frizzy hair in the summer. What's one more frizzy summer while I figure out the curly hair 😆
Hi Marisa! Can I just ask how often you cut your hair to maintain the style? I have a one length type of bob and would like some layers, but also let it grow a bit longer while keeping the style. So how often would you recommend cutting?🌷🌷
I don’t have a particular schedule for cutting my hair, I just do it when either my ends feel a little knotty or my layers seem to have grown out and it needs re-shaping 😃
Give it another wash and if it’s still sitting strange you can tweak it. Sometimes just the tiniest bit off can make a huge difference to the shape. And if a section is too long then at least you can cut a little more off 😃
Mostly just by doing it over time and figuring it out. I started the first time just cutting the end off each curl and then gradually worked out how to shape it. Plus I picked up tips from watching various other people and stylists online 😃
