Love all of your podcasts....your advice is excellent. My beef is that most of the models, regardless of age, range from very attractive to outright stunning. It's hard to differentiate the hairstyle from the model.
Thank you! I totally understand. It's tough, I have a very limited pool to search from for photos that I can use online from a copyright standard. Then I have to find photos from that limited pool of the actual styles I'm talking about. Then I'm also trying to find pics of those styles on different hair textures etc. I feel lucky to find any pics at all, regardless of who they're on.
Older stylists here. Our younger hairdressers need to be taught these basic cuts in school. So many are coming out not learning the basics in layering and being aware of where the weight needs to be.
Love the style of video ... but would love a little more info on what to do with thin, fine hair to be contemporary. Seems i hear that thin fine hair can never be attractive. I sure know its difficult hair to have cut because not many stylist know what to do with it and when its maybe a small error on the haircut it sure does show!
I have silver curls just past my shoulders . My hair is fine but I have medium density. My sister, who is a hairstylist, cut my hair into a shag, with bangs. I love it. I also get a lot of compliments on it.
I’d love to see a video on trendy styles for curly hair. I have dense, fine to medium, high porosity, curly hair. I’m not asking for much, just a low maintenance, minimal product, collar-bone length style. 😅
I would love that as well. I have gone natural (grey), have both very wavy areas and loose curl areas, but not at the top of my head. So it always looks triangular. Help!
This confirmed the cut I'll ask my hairdresser for next week. I have thin, fine hair and a high forehead and glasses so can't wear a heavy or long fringe. Curtain bangs on a chin length bob will add width I need on a narrow face while hiding some, not all, of the forehead. Loved the reasons why the different cuts worked or didn't for someone's face and hair.
Eggs, Eggs, Eggs , massage a couple times a day, brush upside down, drink lot's of water, sleep well. I'm 65 and have super fine shafts at this age, but a gajillion of them, the hair of a 25 year old. oh and wash every other day, or swim, your scalp loves water.😊
My hairstyle is the blunt midi, didn't even know it had a name til I watched this. I told my girl to STOP giving me so many layers, it was to the point that my hair started looking and feeling so thin. I loved how thick my hair felt when I had a chin length bob so I told her to cut my now longer hair that style. Love it! Absolute game changer to this 50 year old!
I've been doing the blunt bob for several years, now. No layers and a little shorter in the back. I've been growing it out to collar bone length. Added some curtain bangs, which I'm going to grow out, having decided my hair is just not thick enough for them at this length. Yes, the chin length bob to blunt midi is a game changer.
Justin, I love your videos! You're a cheerful, chipper guy, the music is great, you always teach me something, and you're funny. I love when you have Deanna on too! This vid ticked all the boxes for me!
Hey! Thank you so much! I truly appreciate that! How did you like the "podcast" style of this video? I wanted to play with a new format that seemed a little less "polished"...
Particularly with the curtain bangs, you were so enlightening about all the factors that need to work together in order to pull of the main feature (in this case, "curtain bangs"). And stating that you might ask for and get curtain bangs but not understand why the cut isn't working for you... Bingo. I'd love more analysis like this where you compare thin/full faces and the details needed to pull off the main feature of different cuts. Nicely done - thanks.
The Shag - always my favorite with very thick, wavy hair. Growing mine out over the fall/winter until it hits my collarbone, the most flattering length I've found
Just found your channel at the perfect time as I want to change my style! I have coarse, curly, thin hair and am over 50. Seriously thinking about a pixie to bring the eye up. I love how you describe who these styles look good on and the different textures and thick or thin and why they don’t or do fit within that perimeter! I guess I will be binge watching til my hair appointment next week! Thank you so much for sharing these in depth details! Thank you universe for leading me here to the channel!!
Currently bald, due to chemotherapy, but planning ahead 😂 My hair is just starting to grow back and I am excited to do what many women never get a chance to do, start from scratch. It’s my silver lining to losing my hair. Great video, thank you.
Been there 9 years ago, it was such a hard time so I really feel for you but it was interesting as my hair started growing again to have such short hair and experiment with such a new look. Now my hair is way down my back but it doesn't really suit me and my long face. I'm just finding it hard to go shorter again after the buzz cut with chemo. I'm glad you're making post chemo plans, I owe my life to these modern medical miracle drugs, stay strong Kia kaha (from New Zealand) and best wishes
I love You! Love all things hair. You've got the knowledge BUT you also know that rules can be broken! I really like how you bring the personality and lifestyle of the client into the equation and say things like "normally this wouldn't work but because of this particular element of the cut " it can work and "she has the personality and style to pull this look off." LOVE!
Great video, I can’t ever get behind baby bangs but I applaud the woman who can! I have soft fine wavy hair which makes it look so full. I used to have long hair but got a bob 10 years ago and have never gone back. So easy to style
Anytime you have Deeanna on the video is a bonus! She's great and I'd love to see her experiment with a short cut! This was a great video and I hate the new names as well.
I love watching your videos Justin - learned how to style my bob (getting volume on the top and not the sides, as it was growing out) and also what "language" to use with a stylist. You help me love my hair! Thanks! Cat
"Crob" does sound like a disease! I'm currently in a pixie, but I think my really course and thick straight hair will grow right into a Crob, or a short layered bob. Hopefully before winter gets too cold! Love your videos! Dionna's hair is, I think, the perfect style for her. She is so lovely!
Do you know what looks amazing with pixie cuts? An under-cut in a certain design like a lotus. A lotus-designed undercut with ur pixie cut, Kandis, would look so amazing
I think Dionne would look beautiful in a pixie! 🙂 Thanks for the video, it foreshadowed what I’m planning on doing next for my fine wavy hair. I’d love to see a video on styling the textured lob. Also, can you pls explain what you mean by “medium texture”? Totally agree abt the hair trend names, they get pretty silly. At this pt there’s almost no excuse not to be able to show a photo anyhow.
Fine hair with medium to full density and a good bit of wave pattern if I leave it natural to dry. Now that my pixie has finally grown out... I'm a Shag Girl!
All the cuts are great! I am going to my hairdresser tomorrow. I am going to start growing out my curtain bang into more of a fringe. I hate the flat spot! I can go a lot longer between cuts and color but the flat spot brings me in sooner.
Luv your channel! 💕 You provide great info for us consumers in navigating the current trends. Thanks! 👍🏼🙋🏼♀️ Also, I like this podcast style format with the exchanges between you both. 👍🏼 Keep it!
Love how you explain what hair types work with these styles. I often see a hairstyle and want it but have never appreciated how it would work on my thin, fine hair. New subscriber here, thank you! ❤
It’s been a busy week and was just now able to watch this video. I 100% think your wife could rock that first short cut! It would be sooooo cute on her!!!!
Thank you for the video! I really like the info re face shape, hair type and technical aspects. I want to watch it a few more times and catch up on your other videos. My hair is fine and I used to have a good bit of it. Now....not so much. I'll check out your other videos as well. Thanks again. :)
I really enjoyed this video, Justin. Gave me lots of ideas for my (grey) thick, slightly wavy hair. Also you made me feel like having a bit of wave in my hair isn't so bad after all.
Love this style of video, showing where to layer and take out the bulk 👍🏻. I have a pixie and I change it up a bit ( longer or shorter) I watch all your videos and enjoy watching you and your wife. I love the shag hair style which I had years ago but at 58 I like it short now. The one thing I would like to see is the back of a hair cut most of the time it’s the front and sides, I know that might be hard. Thank you for all you do.
Genius! I love that you explain things so well. I'm in need of a new hairdresser, and now I know more about each style and cut. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I need someone to deal with my way-too-long-neglected-overgrown hair and now have a better idea of what could work for me. I'm now a fan and new subscriber! Thank you so very, very much!! XXOO ❤️
Great video, I can’t ever get behind baby bangs but I applaud the woman who can! I have soft fine wavy hair which makes it look so full. I used to have long hair but got a bob 10 years ago and have never gone back. So easy to style. Now I’m on a mission to find my dream color.
Well last week my hair was cut to what you are calling a crob. Didn't ask for that but that's what I ended up with. I wanted my angled bob shorter on the sides with more layering. I'm working on how to style it. Love your videos.
Hey, so sorry to hear that. The positive may be that as it grows, you find a length that's shorter than you would have originally wanted to go but you LOVE! I've seen that happen a LOT! Thanks for hanging out today! Also...How did you like the "podcast" style of this video?
At 73, I feel fortunate to still have healthy, very thick hair, that's highlighted, that I wear below the collarbone. My profile pic is when I wore it shorter. I have long layers cut in, with some angled layering around the face, from chin length downward.
@@justinhickox yes it was with face shape aspect, I don’t always take into consideration why previous cuts didn’t work on me even though I provided pictures-it just doesn’t work the same if your face shape is different from the pictures if that makes sense.
I would love to see winter hair color and highlights for shorter hair, what is on trend. I have a very short bob and not into one hair color. I appreciate your content!
I’m going from highlights to my natural, God-given highlights. 🤩 Fortunately, there is not too much difference between the two except that I struggle a little with the warmth in the ends compared with the new ashy colors. If I were to choose one of these cuts, it would be the “blunt midi.” I’ve been contemplating this exact cut but it’s several inches shorter than my current style. 😎 Take care, you two!!
This is so informative. I have medium length going grey curly hair. Also not sure if grey is my colour. I am definitely shopping for a new style. Thanks for all the detailed options
Hello, I’ve been wearing a pixie and would love to change up my pixie or grow out to have a shag. My hair is thick and waves vs years ago when I was so curly. I truly enjoy your channel and wish I could have your input. Thank you for all your videos!
By the way, I 100% feel you about he names of the haircuts, because I experience nearly exactly the same thing as a bartender! I work in a tourist-driven area, and people come in and ask for a drink or a shot that some local bartender back home gave a goofy name to, and then they are disappointed when nobody knows what is in it. Similar to the haircuts, ask your bartender how they actually made the shot you like, so you can take that information anywhere!
Thank you for such a helpful video, Justin! I really enjoyed the podcast style of this video. And, of course, I love when your beautiful wife joins you in your videos. 🥰
Great video! Love you guys! I think I've had every one of these. except baby bangs. Right now, I'm growing out a sort of pixie bob thing. I've been trying for three years!! I finally have the patience to do it. It now looks like the blonde with the shorter bob. I've always had full tapered bangs, which look great with my face shape. My goal is a mid length blunt cut, if I can just get through this stage! 🤪😀💕
I love all your videos with the in-depth description of the cuts. Obviously, they look great on the facial structure of the models. My question is what length and style/styles are good for a mature woman (65, who doesn’t want an old woman haircut) who has fine, semi-curly(more frizzy) hair, and does NOT want to emphasize her sagging jawline, and thinning and hollowing face. I know , sounds like I am asking for a miracle haircut to replace what a facelift would do 😊, when a facelift is not possible😏.
This would be great information! The challenges you describe are shared by almost every woman over 55/60. The way hair texture changes from silky wavy to unruly frizzy is shocking; the jawline changes, even when subtle, change the shape of the face in a way that can be very unsettling, and the hollowing is real. I don't think you're asking for a miracle haircut, and no "old woman haircut" should not be a big ask. One of the most disturbing things about aging is that we do not look familiar to ourselves, but facelifts almost always look like facelifts and do not restore the sense of familiarity. The thing to do, I think, is to discover the hairstyle that makes you look fabulous - not younger, but vital, sassy, and gorgeous! And definitely NOT with a hairstyle that befits an old lady!
I liked this style if video! You are so knowledgeable, and I would imagine you are able to advise women on the best cut for their face and hair type. Do you have any recommendations on where to find a stylist in my area who might do the same? I'm curious if you would have a database.
I had the Rachel in 1995! Back then I had a lot of hair! Fine, but a lot of it! Now, despite how much it's grown out, I have to wrap an elastic two, or three, times for my pony tail! And, my hair is thick at the ends/back, but the top and temples have thinned horrifically.... For the longest time I just kept it in a short pixie that I could use some paste to tousle and spike. I love so many styles, but hair in my face, eyes, on my neck, are sensory issue nightmares! I have no idea what to do.
I love the Rachel too but don’t think I have enough hair and or type. I also don’t want to have to spend oodles of time styling my hair so there is that. Love your videos.
LOL! I hear ya. That cut can definitely be high maintenance. Thanks for hanging out today. Side question.... How did you like the "podcast" style of this video?
I love that short to medium length is “in” for some time now! I have a lot of hair, but it’s super fine. I cut my hair in August from long to shoulder length with no layers. My next appointment is by end of the month. This time I want to cut a bob - right under the chin. No layers, but I want my stylist still to cut a movement. Basically like your wife’s hair. It’s gorgeous 😍
I hope that when Dionna looks in the mirror she sees what I see - a beautiful, modern, funloving, confident woman. Her hair looks fabulous, so healthy and with so much movement and style.
I'm so ready for a pixie and for whatever reason can't bring myself to do it. I loved the red and more so the blonde pixie - I've been thinking the same thing, a cut like that would lift my cheekbones and face but also reveal my full, droopy chin and neck. But I don't style my bob. I try and immediately pull it back because it looks so drab and boring and makes my face look fatter and my hairline/part look thinner (I've lost a lot of hair this year). I like the color of my hair though. So there's that. 😜
Love all your information!! I have very fine hair(aging is not being nice to my hair lol) it is chin length. I really like the look of it pulled back(can’t do anymore now) I was thinking a short pixie but worried that with the thinning in the temple area it will make it look bad. Was hoping for your input and any suggestions please.
First time I have seen one of your videos and I loved it! I would love to try bangs. I have never taken the plunge because I have such a narrow forehead. Is there a style for a short, small forehead?
This whole time, I thought I had a LOB, but I think I have a blunt midi. 😂 My stylist knows what he’s doing, because I love it. It seems to be the only style that works for my very fine hair. However, I do like that shag.
I’m trying a little more la yering right now. One side of my hair is thinner so the front around my face doesn’t always look so good. Probably the side bang on one side looks best in front.
I REALLY want to know...how did you like this "podcast" style of video? Keep it or quit it?

I think Dionne would look beautiful in a pixie! 🙂
Thanks for the video, it foreshadowed what I’m planning on doing next for my fine wavy hair. I’d love to see a video on styling the textured lob. Also, can you pls explain what you mean by “medium texture”?
Totally agree abt the hair trend names, they get pretty silly. At this pt there’s almost no excuse not to be able to show a photo anyhow.
Incredible podcast video, very informative and the interaction with your wife is lovely!
Fine hair with medium to full density and a good bit of wave pattern if I leave it natural to dry. Now that my pixie has finally grown out... I'm a Shag Girl!
Wow! Danke! Ich habe noch nie so gute Frisuren-Ratschläge für mein dickes welliges Haar bekommen👌🏻
All the cuts are great! I am going to my hairdresser tomorrow. I am going to start growing out my curtain bang into more of a fringe. I hate the flat spot! I can go a lot longer between cuts and color but the flat spot brings me in sooner.
Hi Justin - thank you for all your wonderful tutorials! Can you show us how to style a shag featured in this video? Could use a few of your tips :)
Luv your channel! 💕 You provide great info for us consumers in navigating the current trends. Thanks! 👍🏼🙋🏼♀️ Also, I like this podcast style format with the exchanges between you both. 👍🏼 Keep it!
Fantastic video! This is exactly the kind of information that is soooo helpful! BIG thanks to you!
Love how you explain what hair types work with these styles. I often see a hairstyle and want it but have never appreciated how it would work on my thin, fine hair. New subscriber here, thank you! ❤
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for hanging out!
It’s been a busy week and was just now able to watch this video. I 100% think your wife could rock that first short cut! It would be sooooo cute on her!!!!
Thank you for the video! I really like the info re face shape, hair type
and technical aspects. I want to watch it a few more times and catch up on your other videos. My hair
is fine and I used to have a good bit of it. Now....not so much. I'll check out your other videos as well. Thanks again. :)
Love all hour videos and all the information you give !! Thanks so much!!👍
Shagged bobs bordering on pixie are the best❤
Love the pixies
I enjoyed the video!! and your wife's hair is super cute and so is she!!!
XXOO ❤️
Love the format. Such great advice - especially layers on long hair which was referenced by Katie on Katie Goes Platinum. Thank you🎉
Great video, I can’t ever get behind baby bangs but I applaud the woman who can!
Great tips thank you for breaking it down!
You're so welcome! Was it helpful?
@@justinhickox yes it was with face shape aspect, I don’t always take into consideration why previous cuts didn’t work on me even though I provided pictures-it just doesn’t work the same if your face shape is different from the pictures if that makes sense.
I would love to see winter hair color and highlights for shorter hair, what is on trend. I have a very short bob and not into one hair color. I appreciate your content!
I’m going from highlights to my natural, God-given highlights. 🤩
Fortunately, there is not too much difference between the two except that I struggle a little with the warmth in the ends compared with the new ashy colors.
If I were to choose one of these cuts, it would be the “blunt midi.” I’ve been contemplating this exact cut but it’s several inches shorter than my current style. 😎 Take care, you two!!
😊like that dialog- question-style
Very interesting! Love the explanations!!
Great video, great tips and explanations😊👍👏👏😀Thank you,I could listen to you two all day.👌😀♥️
This is so informative.
Thank you for all your videos!
loved the 2nd pixie
It's good to see some mid-length trends!
I really love this podcast type video!!!…great for a change, for sure!!!!…much love and appreciation to both you and Dionna!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I'm not sure if you have covered this or not, how to look for a good stylist or barber. What website or resources for a start. Thank you.
Thank you for such a helpful video, Justin! I really enjoyed the podcast style of this video. And, of course, I love when your beautiful wife joins you in your videos. 🥰
Yes, aren't they such a lovely couple. I love them both! 💕
I sure did rock the Rachel. Only looked good for about an hour after styling.
Very helpful. I really liked this video. I think Dionna would look great in the first pixy. Go for it girl!
This type of video is interesting for a change of pace
Very interesting! Thank you!
I have naturally gray, curly, thick hair. Would love love love to have you cut it!!! Maybe some day!!
I have thin hair and go between a pixie and Bixie.
Love your info and videos! & As a long time stylist I also do not like the trendy names given to cuts now too!!!!!
I like the LOB for my fine thin gray hair.
His wife’s hair has layers, that’s what gives it movement.
I would love to know how to cut hair with a ton of cowlicks!
Love this. Thank you so much. I have a lot of hair but it is very fine. This gives a lot of ideas 💜
Even the blonde short hair is nice wavy
This whole time, I thought I had a LOB, but I think I have a blunt midi. 😂 My stylist knows what he’s doing, because I love it. It seems to be the only style that works for my very fine hair. However, I do like that shag.
I’m a hairstylist of 30 years and I totally agree with you about these dumb names for hair!
hey Justin, for us older folks, growing up in the 60's and 70's we have always know "Fringe" as Bangs.
I’m trying a little more la yering right now. One side of my hair is thinner so the front around my face doesn’t always look so good. Probably the side bang on one side looks best in front.
