Mate! Don’t talk yourself down! I love listening to you & the way you explain the issue/topic, I’m sure everyone appreciates your time & effort into producing these videos. I for one appreciate the fact that YOU, have bought us MG owners (& others) together to listen, share & learn from our experiences. Well done just for that! And we’ll done on another great video. 👍
Hi Mate. I'm from the Philippined and I am about to buy an HS here (same specs - 1.5 Petrol 7speed DCT). I have been watching your reviews on the HS for many months now. Appreciate your honest review and most of all going back to your negative reviews and provide updates that will clarify your initial observations. Been very helpful in my decision-making in buying. For me, the real come on to HS compared to its competion here more particularly the Chinese-made ones (e.g. Ford Territory, Geely Coolray) is really the premium look inside and out. Classier that the others. I have test-driven it and I really like the handling and its sturdiness compared to Ford Territory. I have been reading DCT for quite a while and have been learning its uniqueness compare to the traditional torque converter-based and CVTs. Knowing the underlying technology and how it works will allow us to change old habits that we'gotten used to especially with the torque converter ones (case in point the incline situation) which is not applicable to DCTs (will ruin the tranny particularly its clutch) as it is still a clutch-based technology. Will share some of the links here for further reading and viewing. Again, thanks a lot for the honest reviews. The more we share, the more we all learn. More power.
Thank you for your comment my friend, and apologies for a late reply. I'm glad you found videos useful and also recognize the value of HS range, even with all the shortfalls that I've done my best to highlight!
I love your content I just ordered my MG I pick it up next week. As for the key going flat battery, it has happened to me in my old Mazda, and the dealer said it may have been a bad batch of batterys when the car was made with old strock of batterys. He changed the battery and the problem was fixed. He also told me it may have been in your pocket and one of the buttons was being pressed that coaused it to drain the battery.
As usual, you have taught me something, great job mate, I knew about the key 🔑 but didn’t know about the cup holder part, thanks again, keep up the great job you’re doing cheers 🍻
the cup holder will not have a radio reveiver in it, but it can power a backup system in hte key. It's the same system that was used with older transponder keys. The antenna in the cup holder sends electric through induction to the transponder chip and that replies with it's ID code. This will work without battery in the FOB aswell
Hi from Scotland , Loved your video & had similar issues with my 3month old HS eg: warning lights etc coming on for no apparent reason . Eventually took car to dealer as I was getting pi..ed off , they changed batteries in both fobs & solved problems . They gave me no explanation !!. Cheers Lachie . P.S it's snowing here not raining lol.....
Haha welcome my friend, great to hear from you, and yes - I'm waiting a bit before hitting my service centre with a bunch of requests to look into things, hopefully they'll change batteries, update the software, and it'll be peachy? But who really knows... 🙄🤷♂️
I should have come across your channel before I paid for an MG HS yesterday. I might have reconsidered my decision to get it and opted for a Toyota Raize or VW T-Cross. I’m from the Philippines.
Hey my friend, I don't think the car is bad - especially with the amount of stuff that's packed into its price point. I don't know what's included in Toyota Raize (we don't have those here), but T-Cross is absolute bare bones compared to MG HS if you pay similar money. I think you'll enjoy the car overall!
@@ValueCarsAU So, Finally got my MG HS. I love it. I didn’t have any problems in bumper-to-bumper traffic, but I did observe that when I drove it out of the very steep incline of a condo’s basement parking, it struggled for 1-2 seconds and I thought it was going to stall, probably because I started at a very slow speed (almost from a stationary point). As for the Infotainment system, so far no instability/connectivity issues.
Great video ! I know this is off topic because we are talking about transmissions, but sometimes our HS Essence doesn’t recognise our fob properly, like your fob problem. It might be interference from another signal, or low battery power, but anyway. We will probably get our keys replaced as they have been acting up for most of the time we have had the car. When we open up the keys, only one of the keys actually has a physical key inside, and sometimes it just doesn’t unlock. There is also a problem with our boot opener on our key, it nearly hit my dad in the head the other day when we opened the boot with the key. It just started closing randomly so we will have to bring that up on the next service. That’s really the only problem/glitch we have with ours. The service centre in Brisbane last time was very good service.
Well done re checking out these issues - I think these are great cars with modern technology- my Renault does lock me out occasionally and occasionally won’t start and tells me to depress clutch when I already have done so - I’d blame French engineers unfairly perhaps 😝. Fob isn’t an acronym as fob watches were a thing before key fob :) a century ago 👍
My Audi A4 does the same once in a while but never to the point it hassled me. Usually when it happens, I just depress the clutch again and press the button. Had one situation where the doors wouldn't lock, but I opened and closed all the doors and then it locked and the issue has never happened again (This was 6 months ago) New cars are loaded with tech and it is obvious glitches will happen, just like our Iphones. I've had the Iphone 14 for a year and apps have frozen occasionaly, all I do is, manually close the app and relaunch it.
Thanks for the great video. Im still having trouble when for example im stuck on an uphill position (I.e. gas station or drive thru). I press the brake fully and when I press the gas to drive, it’s like my wheels or gear isn’t gripping well. So I end up braking to ensure I don’t hit the car behind me and try to accelerate to move. I’m clearly doing something wrong. Frustration at best. And I’ve only got my MG HS for less than 2 weeks 😅
Hey I hope you're still enjoying your HS, if it's that fresh to your usage - you just need to get used to it (OR like me, might never get used to DCT - time will tell!) Not sure about the grip, etc, I guess it depends on the incline of the uphill, as the engine is only 1.5L and while it should hold the car well, if the hill is steep, maybe that's where it's struggling and giving you a sense that it'll roll back unless you press the accelerator? Just guessing here...
Key fob works of 5g transmitter so if your near a 5g tower 🗼 your signal can be interrupted or confused. Just wait a while and it'll recognise the fob. Or use the physical key.
i heard that apparently your key fob can go flat if its in range of your car for long periods of time and your car is not locked, because the car is trying to pick up the key and wait for you to lock it.
very strange, but interesting point mate. I guess ours is not THAT close as the car is locked and it's outside in the street, not right next to us in the garage
Believe it or not remote keyless entry systems started appearing as far back as 1983 on American Motors vehicles, some have suggested that the term stands for frequency operated button, but that ignores heavy use of the word before the remote keyless entry system.
Hi , I just bought a MG HS and what I have noticed that in Traffic when I accelerate and I take my foot off the accelerator pedal ( due to traffic ahead) ,.... If I step on the accelerator again (as the traffic moves forward)...I will sometime hear a noise ( soft thud) when the car moves from coasting to accelerating....I took it back to the dealer and they said its because of the automatic gearbox. Can someone tell me if they are experiencing the same concern. Thank you.
This is exactly what used to be my concern, but it is unfortunately how DCT transmission works and sounds when it re-engages "to pull" the car along. It's not an issue mate, it's just how it works.
I have an issue with the folding mirrors. They will only fold in at speeds below 12mph and the moment the accelerator is pressed -even just slightly- they fold out again which is dangerous if oncoming cars are too close. MG say this is a feature of the car; if it is then it’s unnecessary and stupid. On every car I’ve ever owned the mirrors can only be folded in and out by activating the mirror button. Did you have this problem and is this issue something that can be corrected by reprogramming the mirror function? Thanks
Hmmm very interesting insight and I'll be honest with you - I never had an issue with folding mirrors or even noticed anything like that while I owned my HS... I know there's a button that allows you to fold them on demand, not just when you lock and unlock it, but that's about as much as I know and care about how the folding mirrors work on these cars.

Hi, I have a 2020 MG zs I am an English teacher in Thailand. I love the car, but as you have said on your videos there are small things that are annoying. The problem I have is in the evening when I drive my car it speaks the same thing in Chinese over and over again. In the day time it never does it. I wanted to know if you have heard of this problem? I have taken it to MG here in Thailand, but they don't really understand what I am asking. I have enjoyed watching your videos.
Hey Stephen, thanks for the comment and insight - no, I've never dealt with anything like it, and it does sound very weird! I'd talk to your dealership, and since it's a persistent and repeatable problem, just RECORD it talking to you on your phone, like a little video. Then show it to them at the dealership and ask them what's up? Clearly something is off and they should be able to diagnose and fix it! 🤷♂️

This is heresay but, with a lot of cars the Stop / Start system will not work if the car's battery is low on charge or there is a lot of current drain on the battery. Sounds like it was, as I haven't heard of this being a common issue (from my research and experience anyway). Sorry you had to experience that mate, all cars seem to have something...
Wow, after reading most comments by new MG SUV car owners, issues & problems with their new vehicles, really scares you off MG. Seems most issues are with the electronics/computer systems, dct transmission & the lack of engine power on acceleration & incline starts. Top notch cabin finish & stylish exterior, but problems & issues everywhere else. Go with Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 or even a Skoda or Honda CRV.
@@Balkans73 Dear frienD, the car is not just some glitches, it is also engine and other more important parts. Generally it is a good car and worth its price. Some glitches that the author is talking about I dont have in my car (only autorain that works SOMETIMES STUPIDLY) and this glitches are repairable by some software updates, Take care
Thank you. I'm honestly split between spending less for a good looking MG with a few known quirks & issues, that can be repaired as you said, or pay more for the supposed reliability, quality, longevity, of the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5??. I need a long term SUV, 10+ years. Thanks.
Key points are that 1) a lot of other cars from more established brands also have (their own) issues. and 2). you get what you pay for. We still love our ZST and I sold HS not because of glitches, but because of it's DCT.

Sounds like it was, as I haven't heard of this being a common issue (from my research and experience anyway). Sorry you had to experience that mate, all cars seem to have something...
Balance the car with accelerator? What does that mean
It means you are not using the break and keeping the foot on the accelerator to keep the car balanced 🤷♂️
@@ValueCarsAU got it thanks. I get my MG HS delivered soon 😊
If you keep the key fob in same pocket as your mobile phone, it won't be detected properly
Good insight, thank you!
It is a good car, you didn't drive , so please comment something you know.
@@HH-ru7ym that's why they cost $5, you get exactly what you pay for.
