I have driven 50,000 kilometres, there are no issues with the car yet however, DCT needs refinement, i was afraid in the start as-well due to the noises of the transmission but after 50k i think its safe to say that DCT is reliable in this car.
Hi, what kind of noises you noticed? Im a little worried about some weird noises during driving, when its quiet, as no ac or audio is on, so i hear some cranking or rattling sound. More obvious when i accelerate and slow down on a speed bump suddenly, i hear certain noise. Please confirm
There is a manual key inside the remote. You can open remote to expose the key. There is a cap on driver door you can pop off with the key for manual entry I case remote doesn't work so you can still enter the vehicle. Hope that helps
Had this car as a rental over the weekend. I was quite impressed and considered buying one for one of our kids. Went to the servo to fill the tank before returning the MG to the rental agency. Opened the fuel filler and a sticker stated to use 95RON petrol. At that moment, I said to my wife, we are not buying this car. Why 95 RON, MG, why.
It is 95 minimum because a lower octane level will not be OK with a turbo engine. To be honest, I run with 98 all the time and consumption is better than 91 and engine feel more awake and reactive. Maybe 95 is better option money wise but I am happy with 98
Just use 91 it's a Chinese car with a zero performance engine. I have run 91 in my xr6 turbo which really needs 98. Also could be the mg definitely cannot have ethanol in it. In which case I would suggest don't use mobil or 7/11 cheap fuel in 91. Only use shell and BP
Hey there, to zero the trip meter, press the arrow button on the right of the steering wheel till the trip meter comes up, then press & hold the “ok” button😊 I just bought an MG HS ESSENCE, I basically agree with most of ur points.
@@ValueCarsAU Umm, not sure how comfortable you are with naming another TH-cam channel on your channel, but there’s this guy who walks you through every single function on the MG HS. He goes through every button, every feature inside & out. That’s where I got all my info from. If you’re interested in listening to him, let me know & I’ll give you his name. 👍👊
@@Jimmy-Jaffa 😂😂 no big secret really nor is he in competition with any channel. Just search Jerry Pan, he’s a car salesman, he does car reviews on many models, difficult to understand sometimes due to his Asian accent.
Nice points : with point 3, it will bong at you if your engine is on. It won't bong if your engine is off. If you get the latest firmware installed, the notification are greatly reduced
Thanks for a great video. I purchased an MG HS Essence in 2021. Cut a long story short, I had all the issues you described. Eventually my frustration with the gearbox got the better of me (even after a software update), and I sold the car last week. I have now purchase a Kia Sportage GT Line petrol 2020 model and I can honestly say that the drive, handling, infotainment, transmission, and safety software all work perfectly and reliably - as it should. If I can provide a word of advice to anyone considering purchasing an MG is to please reconsider. Spend the additional 5 to 6k and get a tried and tested vehicle that will give you the comfort, warranty, support and reliability that you deserve.
In short - I agree with everything you said. :) I think Sportage is considerably more expensive - with all bells and whistles top of the range MG HS came with - but I haven't checked the latest prices either. No doubt that the overall experience will be much better. I'm quite happy with my LDV D90 I've exchanged my MG HS for. Not exactly Sportage level of finishes, but the price is 10k cheaper too, so I'm not complaining!
Hei. I am planning to buy MG and I visited the MG car Company in Norway. What advice can you give me about MG Electric. Is it a good car to have and drive in winter? What are disadvantages and advantages? Thank you 😊
I have Kia Sportage 2023 and I have some of them also( the "take the key with you", automatic wipers are bad also, and it is beeps me constantly with all security tech) so those are global. Nice video!
Thank you for the great review. Regarding the issue where the port cannot detect your Android phone, I know from experience that that might be a cable issue because some cables are meant for charging only & they do not have data-wires internally to transmit data. However there are a quality cables that can do both: charge & data communications.
Might be worth overlaying some text to explain the issue was the cable not the car, as viewers will be unaware if they don't read the comments. Great video by the way
Hey, I am a technician for MG in Australia I've been working on these cars for a short while now. Wanted to note a few things with the HS Petrol models, The "auto" steering function for the HS is dangerous, I've almost hit numerous things because I went on test drives and the car panics and jerks hard to the left or right, also the acceleration on the DCT model is abysmal I will have my foot down and I can count too 5 seconds before it starts to move, the build quality is pretty bad too, (although account for wear over time) I've had many come in for the same issue with the tpms and front detective radar needing replacing or diagnosing many times, or needing to replace cheaply manufactured parts due to them breaking (too many to count now). If you want an mg here's the ranking for them: MG3, MG ZS EV, MG ZST, MG HS EV, MG ZS, MG HS (I also want to note that mg3 does not have an ancap score in Australia/ no safety rating, but is a really good car all round, the only issue is that some have had an issue from the factory where the front right headlight daylight running doesn't work after a few km)
Interesting insights, thanks for sharing. I simply wouldn't go for an MG these days (better-made cars available for the same-ish price), but back then in 2021 MG HS was not a bad choice.
Just FYI, the USB Android connectivity issue you were experiencing is most likely due to the USB cable being faulty (ie, partially broken in some way), or because it's not an appropriate USB Type-C standard. The biggest issue with USB Type-C cables right now, is that for data transfer to work (and other stuff like fast charging), it requires a specific construction of the cable, in both wire type/thickness, and in wire insulation. I also have issues with Android Auto in my car (a Suzuki), I couldn't get a cheap USB cable I bough to work even once, and the one I'm using now is a pretty old and banged up cable, so sometimes it doesn't work (probably there's a hole in the insulation of one of the inside wires or the like.
Thanks a lot mate, especially for explaining the wiring stuff as it's always been a mystery to me - why some cables work while others don't? - and yes, it was in fact the reason for my problem, as I've reported on resolution in a later video on my channel
It does not have auto pilot. Keep preferably both hands on the wheel. Get a good quality usb-c to usb cable and leave it plugged into the car. The first cable I tried on my HS would charge but not connect. Then connect to either Android Auto or Apple Carplay and you will be amazed at how good it is. Your calls, texts, music, podcasts will be so easy to use. Plus maps too. If there is a mobile phone tower that can cause the key issue. You can always access the key from the keyboard and enter manually. We have had it at our shopping centre and this is an issue with many brands. The DCT is jerky but you can be smooth with practice. Probably the main thing I dislike with mine is the DCT.
Thanks for sharing your experience mate, appreciate it! Not sure what you mean by no "auto pilot" - of course it doesn't drive by itself but it gets pretty damn close to that for this price range and not being Tesla, with steering while in the MG Pilot mode on the freeway, etc. I'll review it properly soon. Cables and connectivity are a pain for me personally, looks like I need to call their service department and ask them to sort it out.
I think the safety sense package called as “MG Pilot” as in “honda sensing” on honda so it is not an autopilot, the package it self includes features like adaptive cruise control, and also line keeping assist which allow the car to assist you to keep you in the middle of the lane, so it’s not supposed to fully steer your car just like a tesla (not the fsd) or even on a mercedes
Oh you're right, it's definitely not "full auto pilot", that's for sure... And it actually worked out much better during our 2000 kms drive, I'll talk about it soon
Thank You !! It was great watching and laughing at your responses/reactions which is very similar to what I faced when I bought the car. Also faced dry axle issue which made another aweful sound and had to regrease the outer rods to eliminate the sound - what other issues are there please let us know.
I have the 2022 MG HS Limited Edition Anfield and everything you said, happened to mine. My transmission is clunky and lags on takeoff. Apart from all that i still love my car.
I have what they call a Qashqai in the UK. Like your MG, it has all the bells and whistles. And just like yours, it has glitches. When everything is working well, it is brilliant, but just every so often, something plays up. I think it’s probably something we have to live with, when we buy a new car, with all this technology. Enjoy your road trip. If you haven’t already. 😊
Thanks Steve, and I agree - of course ALL cars, not just yours and mine have glitches. And yes, this video is over a year old so we have enjoyed the trip (and reported on the results of it too), thank you! 😊
Mate!, got ZST Vibe in 2023 been a year now. I agree with most of the points . In 2023 or 2024 one would expect at least those issues would have been addressed by now. Auto rain thing is improved but still useless and I 'd say 10-20% times still wrong. Auto lights are just horrible, turns on a sunny day sometimes 😅. Luckily it does have 1.5 CVT, so it's not bad to drive. 10000% agree with you on the noises, it is just so annoying. Regardless whether the engine is on/off, if you open and then closes the main driver door to get something or whatever, it makes loud noises and honks crazy very stupid. Also about the fuel - it is not just MG. Any car recommends you that you need 95/98, it is just bs. That's why it is recommended and not mandate. I always use 91 not a single issue ever. Most people don't know that regular petrol have octane number in 80s and petrol engines can absolutely run on it. 91 is already premium petrol, even if one has a fancy car can still use it. I worked in the petrochemical industry and it is the biggest scam widely done to everyone. I never bought, never buys and never will buy 95/98/100 or higher octane petrol. It is a waste of money for absolutely no contribution to the car engine performance. It is similar to this example : normal tap water tastes good and had no issues but one will still spend 5k or more on a fancy water filtration system to filter clean and absolutely drinkable water. Sorry for a big lecture on fuel thing 😷 Anyhow, Even though I am mostly happy with the car but some days I just feel like I should gone with a 2018-19 Toyota instead 😂.
Great insights and thank you for sharing your experience. Interesting thoughts on the petrol 95 vs 91, I never really was brave enough to go against manufacturer's recommendations but you do have a point.
Yes the 95 and 99 fuel will make no difference whatsoever to the performance of the vehicle. But my understanding is that it will stop pre ignition. That is the fuel air mixture igniting before it is ment to. In older cars you could hear a car engines pre ignition as a pinging sound when the engine is under load. Like when going up a steep hill in a high gear. I have no idea how it manifest itself in a modern engine. Constantly having an engine subject to pre ignition can cause upper cylinder damage is my experience of 20 years ago. Don't no what it does to modern engines. I'm astounded by the price difference between 91 and the 95 and 99 fuels.
Hi mate, nice review. Just got to properly see this car at the dealers' today. I fell in love with car immediately and i'm planning to buy it. Value for money got me. All the same thanks mate.
Glad to hear you found it useful. All cars have good and bad things about them, I'm just trying to help people form a more objective opinion, rather than "all shiny"! 😉
I've got the HS as a courtesy car while my Jeep is in for Service. I agree about the gearbox but its actually just a charactistic of the SAIC DCT250 in this car. Its not refined and is quite lurchy in it's operation. I've found that taking the car out of eco drive or comfort offers a more predictable driving experience. Weirdly enough the engine and gearbox are part of a partnership with GM. The engine is good and is currently produced and used in North America, the gearbox is a china only creation and is rather lackluster. Shame they didn't put something a bit more traditional in it.
Thank you for sharing my friend, very interesting insights! I had no issues with the engine, but in the end couldn't come to terms with the DCT and replaced the car with Haval H6 (my more recent videos).
Hi as retired motor mechanic & car dealer what people are not talking about is the depreciation when you go to trade it or sell mainly due to not been around long enough in the Australia market and not enough time to see the long term reliability especially after the warranty runs out then you will find out how much it’s worth. Why is Toyota / Lexus still number one reliable vehicles in the world. I could go with it as my dear father after always said you get what you pay for. Only my opinion 😂
I don't disagree, but this is where we all face trade-offs, especially during fresh post-Covid times when this was filmed. It's not about topmost quality. It's about balance of price, comfort and availability of the vehicle on the market. We can speculate as long as we want about Toyota sh1tting all over MG in terms of reliability, but it's 1950s tech and you simply couldn't buy them. So let's be fair here.
Hey, BTW, just clarifying my comment on the trip meter, it’s the UP arrow button on the right hand side of the steering wheel. Just keep pressing it until the trip meter comes up. So many functions on this car, hard to remember all of em😂
Great points. I have just purchased HS and agree with all you say. Biggest annoyance is radio. Any idea how I can turn it off. At present I just turn sound down to zero but that seems ridiculous.
I just hope there is a software update available by now that would allow you to do that mate. There wasn't such an option back in 2021 when I've reviewed this car.
Hi Bro, the point your mentiines about MG Pilot, that gives alert when you take your hand off from the Steering Wheel. This is used in Many cars have such features because this is not fully automatic driven car. This alert is to wake you if you fell asleep. Honda have the same alert system if you not hand is not on Steering wheel.
Mother in-law bought one in november2023 its been great , I've driven it like an old lady ,creeping forward going slow around round abouts, ,inclines taking off slowly, the trans works beautifully cant feel any harshness and when pushing it it changes crisply and clean. MAYBE software update required on yours .
My wife drives a 2020 HS, 2.0 liter 228 HP. I love the car and sometimes borrow it to feel that great power it has. It’s thirsty but performance is more important to us. Look for a OK button on your wheel to reset the kilometer counter. The only thing I dislike is the ‘take your key away sounds’, and you forgot to mention if you leave the car with keys inside and close the door it will give a horn sound that can cause a hearth attack…
Thanks very much. We might be picking up one of these tomorrow, so found your video very helpful. And last but not least we had a few great laughs too. Never thought we'd be laughing our heads off at your "serious" review. Will check out some more of your vids. Subscribed.
I don't have an MG, but other cars beep if you keep your keys in the ignition (I assume this car is push button start) when you open your door. I also know that after a period of time with the car turned off, this function won't happen. Perhaps you have been in the car for a while and that's why now when you are filming and open the door it doesn't beep, rather than if your just turned off the car and opened the door which I would expect it would beep.
Yeah maybe, it's a button-start, no key in ignition thing here... These cars detect if the key is left inside as you walk out - sometimes beeping when the door is open, sometimes when you try and lock it from the outside by pressing the sensor on the door while the key is left inside (it basically won't let you - which is a good thing overall)
Great video..very funny patter. Thank you. I am looking all around the internet trying to find any reference to strange grinding noise on startup with a 2023 MG ZS. A friend bought one for her daughter and has had it back to the dealership 14 times in the past eight months. The dealer says they haven't been able to replicate the noise (always happens the first start of the day in any season, sometimes will happen at other times of the day) . So far they have put a new end on the exhaust pipe, and have put a new gear on the airconditioner but it has not fixed the problem. The MG dealer genuinely does not want to help and as time has gone on my friend has been less kind to them with each visit and so there is a bit of a standoff with them saying "All MG ZS models make this noise on startup so there is nothing wrong with your car." but they have given her other MG ZS as the courtesy cars and they have never made that noise . I have a recording of it but no way to post it here. The car begins to start and then makes a clunk noise as if the aircon has kicked in and then it makes a short grinding noise that is quite loud. Have you ever heard of such a thing with MG's?
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. It's hard to tell about the noise, but your friend could either accept it (after trying to resolve this too many times), or record it on their phone, bring this back to the dealer and make them do their job diagnosing it further. Problem with intermittent issues is that most owners just leave those, unless they are critical.
Just had a UK spec MG HS for 1 week and all your points are very valid! Love the value of the car but the biggest gripe is the Apple CarPlay connection… sometimes works then drops out… most of time doesn’t recognise the phone!! Just about getting used to the jerks on the DCT as well!🤣👍🏻
I really like how you answer the next question that I'm thinking like 'can I turn off that sound?'. I am watching all your videos on MG and Haval cars. In future for comparison ones, can you edit to show the positive and negative features you're comparing in one video? I got confused in the other comparison video (Jolion vs ZST) which car you are talking about because you were sitting in Jolion sometimes talking about ZST. Hands down, hands down that editing would help!
great video, clear and precise..I had an E class mercedes, getting on a bit so i sold it, and ordered an MG HS..delivery is supposed to be end of June 2022..anyway its nice to know these features dont work for everyone, so one mans grudge wont suit another..but some faults have been rectified by other owners ( speedometer to zero for eg ) I did manage a test drive, and found the auto box to be fault free..am looking forward to owning one as my brother has one and thats when i decided once i had been inside..maybe the 2022 models have been rectified of faults, or upgraded, my only disappointment is not having a CD player..but hopefully with the infotainment system i can play my music via other means. btw, i am in the uk,
Hey mate, I'm hearing good things about UK MG updating their electronics which is the only real worrying element of the car so far (DCT being the other, but that's probably "just me", as they say...). Not sure how you'd feel from a Merc down to an MG, but HS (top of the range especially) won't disappoint you with the sense of luxury and value for money. Let me know how you go once you get yours delivered!
@@ValueCarsAU hi mate thanks for the chat..merc was top of the range but getting on a bit 06 E class.. but had all the bells etc..my wife has a C class..and the idea was buy a new car..get rid of 2..as she uses the car the most..however the size frightens her a bit..but i keep telling her its the same size..just higher..my brother has one and i was impressed so went to see one..had the test drive..and fell in love Cant fault it..btw.gearbox was as smooth as my merc..cant believe what you get for your money..so much technology on board..i went for the Excite As didnt want the roof..no point..in summer the aircon is on..in winter the heating..so didnt want to pay extra for extra light..lol..red seats were nice..but hey ho. I live in the uk..but have a home in Bulgaria where i spend 2 to 3 months a year So once i collect my new car We are off on our 1500 mile journey..cant wait..but hoping to collect earlier than the end of june which i was told..so fingers crossed..it does.

@@ValueCarsAU Hi Mate..after my long delivery date..i finally picked it up last week..21st sept..still trying to find my way around..but loving it..didnt want the roof..but love the auto gearbox..few bit missing compared to the exclusive (ambient lighting..sports mode)..missed the trip to my other home in bulgaria..but will do it in 2023...not a bad trip tbh from the UK..did it many times in a truck over the years. I have an antenna connection missing so dont have the android play atm..they did put on a temporary antena stuck on the windscreen to receive radio and i assume the sat-nav both driven via satellite..hopefuly be called for the part to be fitted soon.the sat nav is crap without it. I did read another youtube video that said..if you put the car into reverse..and lower the mirrors..it will always go into that saving whenever selecting reverse..never worked for me though..good luck matey or is it cobber..ha ha
One other annoying feature I found is the shade sunroof! I thought this would have been a solid material, (like most other cars) with the shade cloth, the suns rays still beam down on ur head, & like yr good self, I have no hair on my head🤦🏻♂️😂 unfortunately I didn’t get to see the car itself, the test drive was performed on the MG HS, not MG HS ESSENCE 😒
Yeah I know what you mean, the shade doesn't really make it "dark" and does let the rays through a bit. Not a massive issue for me, compared to the other points, but good call out 👍
@@carolynebsary637 yeah, also tinted sunroof, cuts the sun glare & UV, but I didn’t know you can use a darker tint for the sunroof & rear windows than the front windows😒
By your description, it sounds like the MG pilot is just lane assist which is very common and have been on cars for awhile now, and almost any new car you get today will have it or some form of it. Along with crash detection and auto braking, blind spot monitoring, and possibly some other safety features. Maybe this is a new thing in Australia? but its been pretty common in the US. But I wouldn't call it a "poor mans tesla" because lane assist doesnt mean autopilot, not in the slightest. Its just a safety feature to help keep you from swerving into another lane, like if you were about to cut someone off, fell asleep, on your phone, not paying attention, whatever, and while most of them will help by making small adjustments, it is still meant for you to be driving the car, so yes it will beep at you. Although I agree a lot of the safety features in new cars today can make them annoying, but on most you can just turn them off or turn off some and leave others on, so that what I do.
At the moment of publishing the video it looked to me like an attempted swing at Tesla, but now - 2 years later - having driven many cars with similar system in place, you're right, it's just a yet another ADAS and lane assist that they gave a fancy name to.
Interesting video. Currently have a MG HS Essence hybrid on order here in Perth since May for September estimated delivery. Dearler called up 3 days ago to say Blue is no longer available, & any of the other 3 colours are $700 extra. Also price has gone up $1000 as of now. 1st world problems but yeah....it's actually really dissapointing to pay $50k, + extra $700 & wait months for a colour you don't *really* want.
Hybrids are expensive, mate, and yeah I understand that waiting times are rather crazy and a bit unpredictable right now - especially on the models that are a bit more reliant on extra electronics like the EVs and PHEVs do... I hope you get your car soon, and enjoy it when you finally get your hands on it!
Good vid But we had a tesla model x for 3 years. I had 20 recurring problems which even Tesla could not fix. A waste of money and waste of time. - key issues - Door issues - Noises while driving - Tesla app not working - side mirror issues - the big screens issues - speedometer issues - breaks issues - a hell of expensive car services - everything need a subscriptions even for getting online map system So why pay a million when you can by 1/3 of the price
Thank you for this info. I considered buying one of these but the "Made in China" was something I did not want to risk experiencing. The most annoying and scary point you raised was when the key would not unlock the door...I absolutely would not appreciate that!
Hey, yes, I hear you and a lot of people commented similarly on the key glitch. It never happened again, if it matters to you, and overall I still believe that if you're ok with the size and mostly - how DCT transmission drives - then you still can't beat the value this car offers.
Everything’s “Made in China” these days. Even your iPhone. Instead of criticising a country you need to understand they’re new in the market so cheap too. Like Kia and Hyundai, they had rubbish vehicles, now they’re tough competitors in the market. By the way thanks for the review.
@@ValueCarsAU apparently the key glitch can be caused by interference from phone towers or something - so the dealer told me when I picked up my Vibe last week (which I love BTW). He showed me how to get in with the key so at least if it happens I won’t be completely stuck. The only issue I have with the car is working out the stupid windscreen wiper control. The instructions in the handbook are rubbish.
There is a physical key inside your FOB. Telephone towers are pretty bad with remote control opening ... To those that are sceptical with made in China MG, here what the MG HS is made of : General Motors engine, Mazda gear box, Bosch electronic, Bose speakers, Michelin tyres (I got 50K already and they are still not to change)...
Hei.I am planning to buy electrical MG, what advice can you give me? Advantages and disadvantages? Is it a good car? I have 3 kids and I need a good car to buy. Any advice? Thank you 😊
Hello, I'd recommend to ask yourself a question of why are you so set on an electrical MG in the first place? Saving the planet is a myth (check videos from John Cadogan or others, they'll explain it all better than I ever will), Australian EV infrastructure sucks, the car is 20k more expensive... So why? At best, I'd personally go for a plug-in hybrid, but that's me.
You forgot to mention how thirsty actually is for petrol I drive very smoothly on economic mood and I could barely get around 30 mpg and also very difficult around bends .. all your points are spot on 👍👍👍
Got an MG HS 2021 year. Outstanding vehicle. The only weird issue was my car wouldn’t move one time because my screen wash was empty. Just took me a while to figure it out. Refilled it and the car was fine. 😂
I've had my MG HS Excite model for just over 2 weeks now and I must say my biggest gripe is with the infotainment system....its rubbish! It's great on paper but it just doesn't cut it and the DAB via USB is just unacceptable
Yeah mate it's pretty horrible, and I've also figured it out a bit late as the money was already paid. Main issue though for me remained the MG DCT. If you're ok with how it drives, it's still good value for money.
@MG Owners AU I opted for manual transmission so its not an issue for me. The gear change is a bit clunky though but I'm hoping that'll settle down a little as the miles clock up
POINT 5 I was told I needed a 'good' quality cable and not the cheap ones off amazon. I had a decent quality cable....didnt work, my partner gave me his Sony Cable and it worked
Hi there, in this case with all these “issues” would you actually suggest this car for new drivers/learners? who doesn’t really have experience in cars.
Hello, I don't think the car has any issues that would prevent a less experienced driver from enjoying it. In fact, I'd recommend something like this (or MG ZST which is smaller and easier to drive in tight city traffic if you're not particularly good yet), because it's reliable, cheap, and has warranty - everything an inexperienced driver needs.
Most of his “issues” are in fact misrepresentations and when pointed out in a previous post I got barked at being “borderline trollish”. It’s a great car and the “issues” mentioned here should not deter you from considering it. Finishes are luxury compared to most other brands and safety features outstanding, a great bonus if you are a new driver. I’m thrilled with mine and have no complaints.
Problem in Australia is that initially inexpensive brands like MG, GWM Haval, Chery are now trying to climb the price categories, being *almost* as expensive as some Japanese counterparts. Which is exactly why a lot of them will fail.
I'm not sure and this is not one of those hybrids unfortunately, it's just your normal stock standard petrol version. I suspect it does as any normal vehicle does a bit too?
@@ValueCarsAU ah I see. Sorry I thought this was the hybrid model. But great info covered in your video. And really like the way you explained everything. And thank you for replying!
As you are in Australia is this a left hand drive version or is the image in reverse. Sorry for being so pedantic. FWIW we bought the ZS a couple of months ago. Still learning all the knobs. Just figured out today how to turn the cruise control on. Bought the CarLinkit 4.0 (Have you done a review yet?), have trouble installing it at the moment.
It's a mirror view from the phone camera that I didn't flip back during the edit. The car is RHD as any normal car is in Australia. Nope, haven't reviewed CarLinkit 4.0 as went straight to 5.0.
OH NOOOOOO. I’m just going to test drive this car tomorrow!! MGHS EXCLUSIVE DCT. But these annoying issues the getting locked out worries me and the petrol being 95? Not sure what this is in the UK? Anybody know? I do like the MG though as you get lots of things cheaper than the rest. Also my family are six foot J find the MG the best for height. I can’t get out of a small car now and had to sell my Leon😭. What I do want to know is, does the sun roof (panaramic ) open? Is there a screen to Slide Over ? Love your video Thank you xxxxx
Hi, happy to have you with us! 😊 That "lock out" thing happened once and never again, plus the issue just went away after one minute, I still don't know what it was, so I wouldn't worry too much about it! Re other things, look, they are really minor issues (other than small boot of the car - check out my other video), if you plan full on camping with the whole family. I'd say, go for it, it's a great car overall
hi, the panoramic opens electrically by switches above your head..tso does the sun shade, you can open it to where you want it..2 inches or fully..from either shade..and as it opens a fly screen also opens as well..sadly i didnt want this feature, so opted for the excite trim..and not executive which has the sun roof and all leather with red trim etc, not a lot of difference tbh.
test drive yourself, don't believe whatever people tell you. if anyone want to scrutinize to unnecessay details, any car, any car at all, will have one,.
Really interesting info. Thank you. I am considering the PHEV model. How did you get into the car when the electronic key failed? Does it have a physical key backup?
Hey yes it has physical key backup, but I didn't need to use it (or know how to do it in the moment, frankly). I basically waited 15-20 seconds, moved around the car, pressed the button a few times and it worked.
In the key inself there is a battery inside it if its low it will not open the door in order to open it you place the key fob as close to the door handle sensor and it will open up same if you want to start the car hold key fob near to push start button and should get you out of trouble till you change battery inside key ( £6 ) in UK .... I just test drove a hybrid version of HS today a must say the accelaration was quick for a 1.5 it was impressive just as quick as some of the bigger engined Lexus hybrid .... 37litre fuel tank in the Hybrid compared to 55 litre fuel tank in just petrol version quite bit of difference tempting to buy as loved the sports recaro seats etc but getting put off from bad reveiws in breakdowns and bad dealerships not helping on issues .... but at 27k thats a decent Lexus money bracket so on that note i am swaying towards a Lexus suv ....
Radio turning on automatically has been fixed; GPS in Australia is very good but doesn't mention streets by name; just says "Turn left or turn right in "X "meters" key warning beep only activates if you get out of the vehicle; won't operate while drivers weight is on the seat. To record the trip, press the button until you arrive at the trip screen and then hold the button for a few seconds to set it to zero. Most of the things mentioned in this video are personal opinions. I have had my MG for 12 months, traveled 10,000 km, and had no trouble with the car. My cons would be the automatic transmission is not as smooth as that of my previous car (Hyundai) which was very smooth whereas the MG is not as smooth and you are well aware when the car is changing gears and a bit noisy with the revs of the engine as it changes. There is also a fair bit of road and wind noise; but I agree, for the money the car is a pretty good buy being the cheapest on the market in Australia.
It only took them - what? - over a YEAR to fix the radio issue? 🤷♀️🙄 It's an OK car, I still think so, but I wish I bought my Haval H6 instead of this MG HS straight away and saved some money reselling my interim cars. HS being "the cheapest" on the market is just flat out wrong information.
Thanks for a very useful video. One Q about that THE key dident open THE car... Has the car an announcement about the key battery status... Or have you got an anser from MG about that issue...
Hello mate, there were no car battery warnings, MG didn't know anything about this issue as it looked like a very one-off glitch that never happened again... It was just a little worrying and unsettling there and then, when it happened, but after that I had no issues with key entry
Hello mate, from my experience body build is fantastic, no complaints there. Re AWD it depends on what you'd use the car for? Regular mud, snow and forest adventures or farmland in the rain? No? Then why bother? It costs more, takes more fuel, etc etc. For city and occasional intercity highway driving 1.5 turbo petrol was always more than enough in my opinion anyway
Hey mate, for the unlock I waited literally a couple of min, then tried again and it worked no problem like nothing happened! Weird stuff... And I honestly didn't notice DCT heating up yet - did you?
Ummm, shouldn't it turn off when you stop the engine? 🤷♂️ Guess not... Maybe there's a setting somewhere there in the bowels of infotainment, I'm not sure, sorry.
Great video but the only question I have is why are you on the right hand side of the car if you're in Australia??? We drive on the left. I'm sussing out this car and good chance I'll buy the HS Vibe.
Whete I live, the cheapestU91 is 183.5 Prices go up 23 to 25c per litre to u95 the another 23-15 c/ litre to U98. I think this vehhicle should be using a I91
I had one of these given to me by a hire car company while my car was getting repaired. Everything mentioned here is exactly as described. Especially being locked out of the vehicle and wondering how to get home then suddenly it came good again. Not happy with that. Very awkward to use the slowly responding display which took my attention away from the road. I stopped using it. I am so glad I don't own one and never will. The 'Pilot' was always iffy and decided to work/not work for whatever reason. Definitely not worth the price if you had to buy one. I predict that these cars will have zero resale value when the time comes to upgrade. They will just trash them.
I perhaps wouldn't be as negative in my impressions even after selling this car, but overall I agree. They've made a pretty comfortable vehicle overall, but mainly messed up on electronics and DCT
Hi, I bought the MG zs as a mechanic I wanted to keep it simple normal key, 4-speed auto transmission no CVT, manual handbrake no digital display dashboard I only have a rev counter and speedo. I know from years of working on cars that the more shit you have more to go wrong KIS keep it simple
Hi Sharon, I don't have my HS anymore so can't point you to an exact spot, but fuel gauge should be on the bottom-left hand side of the speedometer/instruments screen. Take a closer look, you should be able to see either an arrow/hand, or little digital bars, depending on if you have MG HS petrol or PHEV model which has slightly different instrument panel.
I am in philippines and last month I bought second hand 2020 MG zs base trim. I noticed too much road noises so I thought it might be coming from old tires. So I changed all tires but same noises. I don't know what's wrong with the car.
I guess it depends on the road as well as the car. Some roads are just noisy. Overall sound insulation wasn't that bad but now that I have Haval I can see that it can be much better
Hello! Model was MG HS Essence 1.5 Turbo Petrol 2WD (top of the range, not AWD). Seats are fantastic, probably the best in class and what I've seen or heard of in a similar price category. With back injury (or any other injuries) I'd always recommend that you test drive and see how it feels to you.
Have you tried changing the usb cable? I have same experience from different car with android auto. The phone cable sockets could also be the problem. It can also happen when we use custom android ROM. Doesn't it has wireless android auto connection?
Yep and THAT is what the issue was. It doesn't explain why the quality of USB port plastic had to be that bad of course, but the connection did work in the end (very slowly)
Our Nissan Qashqai Tekna also has an autopilot, and if you don't have a hand on the steering wheel it will first visually warn you, it will then warn you with beeps that get get faster, if you still don't respond, it will give a single pitched high note, if the car still gets no response, it will brake to a stand still and switch it's hazard lights on, and the reason for this? The car needs to know the driver is "with it." By having a hand on the wheel the car assumes you have not been taken suddenly ill or incapacitated in some way and is a safety feature. To be honest, I thought that would be pretty obvious. Idiots have found they can fool the system by placing a hooked weighted water bottle over the wheel. Not cool and smacks of sheer stupidity, but on the roads these days, you don't have to travel very far to find one.
Wow that's very funny to hear how people put a water bottle on a wheel to fool the safe autopilot system (even though we both know it's NOT really autopilot, but more of a driving assist, at best...) I wouldn't recommend trying to cheat the system, but neither do I personally need to have the car tell me to keep my hands on a steering wheel - IF IT PRETENDS TO DRIVE FOR ME. That's the key message. Stop pretending you're auto-piloting anything, and I won't complain. If you're confident enough to take over from me - then don't beep! Pretty simple logic.
Hi there! I just got my HS Excite and I have a question no one has been able to answer so far. Is it possible to surf through the selected favorite radio stations poll straight from the steering wheel buttons? Right now, I have to go either through every single radio station or I have to click on the screen the favorite radio station. I own an Audi and I'm able to do this with no problem from the steering wheel, it's great.
Hey sorry for a delayed response, I was on holidays. As for your question - I'm not sure, maybe someone else will answer. I don't really use radio much in my cars as I either listen to podcasts or enjoy driving in silence. :)
Nice vid man. Thinking of gettin one in Indonesia, it’s a CBU from Thailand and the top of the line now is called the i-smart, with voice command, improved head unit, red seats & black interior ceilings. Price point is 20-25% cheaper than CRV & CX5 here. I imagine the HS in Australia is not from Thailand? Wonder if this makes any difference in terms of build quality and all? I tested the car, the DCT can use some refinements but it’s OK. Also, what’s your analysis on the fuel consumption? I feel like the CX5 and CRV are way superior when it comes to this aspect.
Hello mate, thanks for your great questions - I'll talk about fuel consumption in my upcoming 2k drive video. Regarding 20-25% cheaper - it's hard to beat man... OF course Honda is a lot more respected for quality and longevity of the brand on the market, but I'd just look for a longer test drive (if I was doing it all over again), i.e. take the car home over night, keep it for a day - not for half an hour like I did 🤦♂️ - possibly some kinks will become obvious to you then... Regarding build in Thailand vs wherever this one is built (China?), I'm not sure yet mate, sorry - will try and keep an eye out on any Thai built MGs here in AU so I can review them.
Right now at the Bangkok Motor Show the HS 2.5LT X model (top trim) is on offer for 809,000 bht, or AUD $35k. I am booked to tst drive one in to days. For another 210k bht they offer teh PHEV version. Testing that too. @@ValueCarsAU
Thanks for the info. Wow, the thing about resetting your kilometre setting... did you manage to figure out? On my Dualis car, I reset my setting every time I fill my petrol so when it reaches certain mileage I then decide to do re-fill. It has become a habit. I hope MG car (especially ZST) has that feature!
Hey mate, yes someone pointed it out that if I press the down arrow key on the steering wheel, it'll take me to Kms that could be then reset by long-pressing "OK" button, but it's still nothing compared to the accessibility you have in your Dualis now (I had one too, and loved the car while I had it - sure, it wasn't as luxurious and fun as MG, but it was sturdy as hell and got the job done!)
@@ValueCarsAU Agree, Dualis is a good car. I have it for about 7 years now but still have low mileage (less than 54km) and I wonder if should swap it with MG. I suppose that depends on the trade-in valuation. MG website offers around $10-12K (if it's in mint condition). Mine is TIL version so it has 360 camera and panoramic roof similar to MG ZST essence, of course, minus all other safety features that MG offers.
In answer to your reply , price conscious chinese cars compared to european counterparts (with a vintage badge on the front or not) will NORMALLY come with weaker tech software and less manufacturers investment in certain areas whether it be engine, interior plastics/materials and so on ,. Up to now thats how it pans out over here in UK
Really??? who would have thought!!! hahaha I'm still trying to figure out if you're for real or just a yet another troll. I have a collection of those on my channel, yep.
Hi there, thank you for the great video. When the car goes above 15km p/h the auto door lock clicks on. Do you know how to turn this off? Many thanks, Eddie
You can not turn it off. And why would you? Anti theft (car jacking). Sometimes you may just need to try the door handle twice to get out especially if you're in a hurry and can not wait 3 seconds.
Thanks for the reminder - I've never actually expanded on that... What I meant was that once your phone is paired via bluetooth, you can simply open TH-cam app on the phone and start any video and the AUDIO from it will play through infotainment, and you can drive and listen to it - like to a podcast, or review, guide, etc, something you don't actually need to WATCH. Hope it helps! 😉👍
In UK we can get petrol lower than 95. It is commonly known only higher versions of Android could work with Android Auto properly! Not detected sound like the Android version too low and behind!
ps . over in uk i have just found mG HS PHEV for £ 30 k on the road DEAL in exclusive with auto box . How do you think that rates in capability and long term value against similar suv with mostly shorter warranties , For about 10 k more theres a volvo xc40 , a peuguot 3008 , ford puma , jeep compass, gm or vauxhall grandland , kia sportage , hyundai tucson and mini countryman. sorry for so long winded
Great insights, I wish you didn't spam and came with good will, adding to the community rather than talking like a troll in your other comments, balancing on the thin line of being blocked.
You seem quite savvy on cars so i GENUINELY asked what you may think of a host of others of others that i am considering which cost 10k more in UK pounds as sent in previous message @@ValueCarsAU
I've posted a lot of videos following this one specifically about our ZST - please check the channel if you're really into your research. In short, no, ZST doesn't have the issues of HS (other than sucky infotainment)
Looking at buying a 2020 HS, Has anyone found that the dash trimming around the start button is coming off( peeling away formbutton),and that the Black plastic molds under the External rear vision mirrors are fading?
I currently drive MB C300 for which the recommended fuel is 95 RON. However deep in the owners manual it says do not use blended fuel with greater than 10% ethanol. Now E10 is 94 RON. I have driven over 24000kms using E10 without any problems or noticeably more litres per 100kms. Is this an option for the MG HS? My interest is actually the PHEV but I am assuming the fuel requirement is the same.
Good question and maybe someone more technical could answer that. When it comes to - let's face it: cheaper - cars, my approach would always be to remain within the safe and recommended parameters. I.e. I would not use E10 in MG HS and stick to RON 95, personally, as I hate unpleasant surprises.
Just a thought... if you are not familiar with the name of the Andoid car connection system (Android Auto), its very possible you didn't have the Android Auto app installed on your phone; which may be why the car didn't recognise it as it is required for it work I think. Tks for the informative video.
Good point my friend, but turns out this thing comes as a base part of Android system, and the issue turned out to be with the cable I've used - as I've explained in another video :)
Was about to go for HS and 95 fuel was one of the major reason I stayed away and currently going with Haval H6 Ultra hybrid which will be delivered in 3 weeks time. MG has PHEV which is not possible to charge on a apartment building for me otherwise would have been great option.
I think you'll enjoy your H6 Ultra as the overall build and DCT are much better. My only issue there is an over-invasive Electronic Lane Keep assist system.
I succumbed to sales person pressure today and bought a 1.5t Excite today. I test drove it & there's a few things I do not. The blind spot the big triangular whatever-it-is that the rear vision mirror is on is terrible. Im freaking out I made a mistake but actually watching this helps me realise there'll be annoying things but overall it's a good car. Phew.
Hello my friend - it's a shame that disappointment came so quickly to you, but we are in the same boat. You've succumbed to the value that the car absolutely offers in this price range, and there's a lot to love about it. But (too late to tell you that) you probably should have made sure that essentials - such as blind spots etc - were ok for you before signing that contract... I'm sure you'll get used to it though! :)
@@ValueCarsAU hi! I did know about the blind spot and the things I didn't like. I test drove 3 MGs and decided the one I got was great value & things I didn't like (like the blind spot) were things I'd just get used to. It just all happened too quick & I got worried lol. I definitely made the right decision even it was coerced 😁
If I have understood your comment, the rear view mirror can be pivoted higher, it moves the mirror about one inch higher, It was almost a deal breaker for me until I spotted the mirror can pivot, even the dealer didn't know about this feature, I pick up my new MG HS Exclusive on 2nd September.
@@malcolmbennett530 I didn't know thst! Thank you, I'll have a look tomorrow. There are times when I'm turning a corner that I have to lean so far forward & try to peer around the the box lol. I have gotten used to it mostly though. There's a shocking blind spot on the drivers side rear window. Thank goodness for the blind spot indicator lights.
Iv already ordered MG HS in UK but this is the second time I hear about the jerkyness of the gear, I used to have a bmw 420d which had a dual clutch transmission but It never jerked or made any noises, I am slightly worried lol
Have you test driven the car, would be my main question here. I have, but admittedly didn't pay attention to how DCT performs. This is probably the only time to really see if you like it or not. It's not too bad, you'll get used to it, but definitely something noticeable
I have bought 3 new MG’s and to be honest what your paying for them they are great value for money. Only thing I would say is that my elbow constantly hits the console in the middle. It’s annoying!
Haha that would be quite an inconvenience! Yeah they are good value for money, but on the cheaper side - mostly as far as electronics are concerned - if compared to e.g. Haval.
Hey mate, we drive in the city mostly, and average 400-450 kms on one tank, usually considerably more if the car is used on a highway. Tank is rather tiny (45-48 litres). This obviously depends on how much time we drive with air con on, but these numbers are average for us so far.

I have driven 50,000 kilometres, there are no issues with the car yet however, DCT needs refinement, i was afraid in the start as-well due to the noises of the transmission but after 50k i think its safe to say that DCT is reliable in this car.
This is fantastic news and great to hear my friend, thank you for commenting! 50k wow, you must drive a lot! ;)
If you think the MG's DCT is rough, try driving a Ford or VW with their DCT🙄
There is a manual key inside the remote. You can open remote to expose the key. There is a cap on driver door you can pop off with the key for manual entry I case remote doesn't work so you can still enter the vehicle. Hope that helps
Thanks mate, I knew there's a physical key in the remote, BUT had no idea where exactly is the "hole" for the key in the door??
Opening the door with the actual key wont trigger the alarm ?
Had this car as a rental over the weekend. I was quite impressed and considered buying one for one of our kids. Went to the servo to fill the tank before returning the MG to the rental agency. Opened the fuel filler and a sticker stated to use 95RON petrol. At that moment, I said to my wife, we are not buying this car. Why 95 RON, MG, why.
Exactly! I have no idea! ZST is the same!
95 is the lowest we have in UK. Surprised 91 still exists?
@@adrianbyron-parker5797 91RON is a dirty fuel.
Awesome thanks mate, I guess I could spend some time reading the manual which I didn't 🤦😉
@@ValueCarsAU Umm, not sure how comfortable you are with naming another TH-cam channel on your channel, but there’s this guy who walks you through every single function on the MG HS. Great point, thank you mate!
How do you get the latest software? No dealership I talk to even know about the Comfort update that is available in the UK that eliminates it all!
I’m thinking to get Kia Sportage as well :)
@@pipitsummer7133 I am so very happy with the kia. It really is worth every penny of extra dollars I put into it.
Thank you my friend - and you're right, it WAS the cable issue I've identified later!
This is true, usually 3rd party cables don't work for android auto, I don't know about Apple car play
So you cannot switch off the auto steering and braking assist?
Same here with the cable my daughter gave me genuine iphone cable for Christmas no more problems.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I have the 2022 MG HS Limited Edition Anfield and everything you said, happened to mine. My transmission is clunky and lags on takeoff. Apart from all that i still love my car.
As long as you still love it - that's the main thing that matters!
Sorry for a big lecture on fuel thing 😷
Anyhow,
Even though I am mostly happy with the car but some days I just feel like I should gone with a 2018-19 Toyota instead 😂.
Had my facelift MG HS for 6 months now, absolutely love it no problems to date gets lots of looks comfortable ,roomy highly recommend.
I'll take a close look once they have a face lifted version available here in AU
You get what you pay for, I’ve got the Cupar formentor my wife has this in the trophy version, not sure mine is worth 7k more I paid for the MG tbh
Maybe some punctuation would help you carry your message across. I've no idea what you tried to say about your Cupar.
Hey, BTW, just clarifying my comment on the trip meter, it’s the UP arrow button on the right hand side of the steering wheel. Just keep pressing it until the trip meter comes up. So many functions on this car, hard to remember all of em😂
Yes mate thanks again for your comments - I've figured this out now and it made my life so much better! 🤣
Is this left-sided steer wheel in Australia? Also a real-life comment from you, straight forward and realistic findings. Thyfor shariithis.
Thank you. No, it's the mirror camera recording and my first video where I haven't corrected this. I do these days.
Great point, thanks for confirming re. other car brands doing the same - I thought it's an MG thing....
No update was available at the time of this review. Now in 2024 - I don't know - there'd better be!
Lol thanks for contributing. I sold my HS a rather long time ago, so not a worry for me anymore
Thanks very much. We might be picking up one of these tomorrow, so found your video very helpful. And last but not least we had a few great laughs too. Never thought we'd be laughing our heads off at your "serious" review. Will check out some more of your vids. Subscribed.
Wait for the release of their new 2024 model, unless you already have it in stock where you are. No point buying this outdated model
Just about getting used to the jerks on the DCT as well!🤣👍🏻
Lol thanks for sharing your impressions mate, DCT sucks!
Despite the issues, would you still recommend it? How’s your MPG?
I have never had any problems with Carplay it works flawlessly, perhaps its the phone model or software version that causes the issues
Does MG stands for My God!
@@ValueCarsAU u have more/new problems now?
I really like how you answer the next question that I'm thinking like 'can I turn off that sound?'.
I am watching all your videos on MG and Haval cars. In future for comparison ones, can you edit to show the positive and negative features you're comparing in one video?
I got confused in the other comparison video (Jolion vs ZST) which car you are talking about because you were sitting in Jolion sometimes talking about ZST. Hands down, hands down that editing would help!
Appreciate the feedback. Hard to satisfy everyone's expectations, but I'm doing my best
great video, clear and precise..I had an E class mercedes, getting on a bit so i sold it, and ordered an MG HS..delivery is supposed to be end of June 2022..anyway its nice to know these features dont work for everyone, so one mans grudge wont suit another..but some faults have been rectified by other owners ( speedometer to zero for eg ) I did manage a test drive, and found the auto box to be fault free..am looking forward to owning one as my brother has one and thats when i decided once i had been inside..maybe the 2022 models have been rectified of faults, or upgraded, my only disappointment is not having a CD player..but hopefully with the infotainment system i can play my music via other means. btw, i am in the uk,
Hey mate, I'm hearing good things about UK MG updating their electronics which is the only real worrying element of the car so far (DCT being the other, but that's probably "just me", as they say...). Not sure how you'd feel from a Merc down to an MG, but HS (top of the range especially) won't disappoint you with the sense of luxury and value for money. Let me know how you go once you get yours delivered!
@@ValueCarsAU hi mate thanks for the chat..merc was top of the range but getting on a bit 06 E class.. but had all the bells etc..my wife has a C class..and the idea was buy a new car..get rid of 2..as she uses the car the most..however the size frightens her a bit..but i keep telling her its the same size..just higher..my brother has one and i was impressed so went to see one..had the test drive..and fell in love
Cant fault it..btw.gearbox was as smooth as my merc..cant believe what you get for your money..so much technology on board..i went for the Excite
As didnt want the roof..no point..in summer the aircon is on..in winter the heating..so didnt want to pay extra for extra light..lol..red seats were nice..but hey ho.
I live in the uk..but have a home in Bulgaria where i spend 2 to 3 months a year
So once i collect my new car
We are off on our 1500 mile journey..cant wait..but hoping to collect earlier than the end of june which i was told..so fingers crossed..it does.
@@wtruckyboy Sounds like fantastic plans mate, makes me honestly jealous! Enjoy your long journey, check back in if you have any particular discoveries to share! 😉👍
Hi
You talk interestingly about MG HS.
Sales of this car in Poland have recently started. I am interested and need your comments. Thanks
Not a massive issue for me, compared to the other points, but good call out 👍
@Dr Weirdgloves WTF 😂😂 it slides! Not roll ! All other cars with sunroof have a solid material
I got my sunroof tinted. Much better.
@@carolynebsary637 yeah, also tinted sunroof, cuts the sun glare & UV, but I didn’t know you can use a darker tint for the sunroof & rear windows than the front windows😒
You could do the darkest tint on the roof as would not come under a legal requirement as is a roof, as would not obscure vision.
Cancel the purchase as they cannot give you what you ordered.
Good vid But we had a tesla model x for 3 years. I had 20 recurring problems which even Tesla could not fix. A waste of money and waste of time.
- key issues
- Door issues
- Noises while driving
- Tesla app not working
- side mirror issues
- the big screens issues
- speedometer issues
- breaks issues
- a hell of expensive car services
- everything need a subscriptions even for getting online map system
So why pay a million when you can by 1/3 of the price
Great insight, and thank you for bothering to comment, really appreciate it
Thank you for this info.
Bro Tesla has more problem than you think!
Don't buy a ev high risk of fire don't put your family in danger
You forgot to mention how thirsty actually is for petrol I drive very smoothly on economic mood and I could barely get around 30 mpg and also very difficult around bends .. all your points are spot on 👍👍👍
Thanks good point, but that's just how inefficient the car is, rather than "how stupid" some things are by design! ;)
I agree the car drinks alot of fuel
Got an MG HS 2021 year.
Outstanding vehicle.
The only weird issue was my car wouldn’t move one time because my screen wash was empty. Just took me a while to figure it out.
Refilled it and the car was fine. 😂
Wow hahah great insight, thank you for sharing! It must have thought it's unsafe to let you drive without the washing liquid! 🤷♂️
After this video I gave up buying a car of this brand, I will analyze the competitors, even though it is considerably more expensive 😢
There are similarly priced competitors, such as GWM Haval.
Yeah thank you, those damn cables are always 90% of the trouble
I am from pakistan having mg hs .. here it is consider elite car... and in australia you call it inexpensive car
Problem in Australia is that initially inexpensive brands like MG, GWM Haval, Chery are now trying to climb the price categories, being *almost* as expensive as some Japanese counterparts. Which is exactly why a lot of them will fail.
Thanks for the great video. Does the battery charge itself while driving in hybrid or petrol only mode, similar to the Toyota hybrids?
Number 11 if you put the key on the parcel tray and shut the boot when the car is otherwise locked the boot closes and you are locked out.
What parcel tray?
That is not good. I've done that in my Chrysler 300 SRT, but the boot won't shut.
@@ValueCarsAU Whether the MG is the cheapest on the market depends on the country you live in
Thanks for a very useful video.
Dear sir
What do you can say about body build, driving performance, noise pfoof.. and it is worth to buy MG hs 2.0 awd or hs 1.5
.Thank you in advance
Hello mate, from my experience body build is fantastic, no complaints there. Re AWD it depends on what you'd use the car for? Regular mud, snow and forest adventures or farmland in the rain? No? Then why bother? It costs more, takes more fuel, etc etc. For city and occasional intercity highway driving 1.5 turbo petrol was always more than enough in my opinion anyway
what did you do then when it did not unlock. n what about DCT getting transmission heating up. did it happen to you?
Hey mate, for the unlock I waited literally a couple of min, then tried again and it worked no problem like nothing happened! Weird stuff... And I honestly didn't notice DCT heating up yet - did you?
@@ValueCarsAU There a emergency key inside your remote but look what you have to do to use it,,,,,.th-cam.com/video/i6CNkBuG17o/w-d-xo.html

I have Googled and TH-camd, but can’t find anything.
Any ideas?
Ummm, shouldn't it turn off when you stop the engine? 🤷♂️ Guess not... Maybe there's a setting somewhere there in the bowels of infotainment, I'm not sure, sorry.
Great video but the only question I have is why are you on the right hand side of the car if you're in Australia??? We drive on the left. I'm sussing out this car and good chance I'll buy the HS Vibe.
Hey mate, I was filming this on the selfie cam of my phone and it mirrored the video frame.
Hi, I'm thinking about to buy this vehicle. Does anyone know if these issues have been resolved? Thanks.
Unlikely. Watch my latest video, it mentions that MG HS has not been updated since 2022. I'd wait.
Whete I live, the cheapestU91 is 183.5 Prices go up 23 to 25c per litre to u95 the another 23-15 c/ litre to U98.
I think this vehhicle should be using a I91
Absolutely agree. 95 is way too expensive and there's no reason for this car to need it.
Well thats the point, cheap and nasty,a throw away item.
And does MG ZS not have any of those things that you've mentioned? I thought as any modern car it would have most of it anyway.
How much did you pay for your expectation? For sure there's few cars do autonomous but with a price. but still good job to gave us a clue. Thank you.
What expectation?
I just collected mine today .. Stupid question coming... WHERE is the fuel gage in the car ? So I know how much fuel I have??
GREAT VIDEO MATE! One question what model is your HS? and how do you find the seats! Asking for patients with back injury?
@@ValueCarsAU thanks for your quick response bro. I was planning on getting the vibe
What's your thoughts on vibe
Have you tried changing the usb cable? I have same experience from different car with android auto. The phone cable sockets could also be the problem. It can also happen when we use custom android ROM. Doesn't it has wireless android auto connection?
Yep and THAT is what the issue was. It doesn't explain why the quality of USB port plastic had to be that bad of course, but the connection did work in the end (very slowly)
Is your video mirrored so that the steering wheel is on the left side of the car? or do you have a left hand drive car in Australia?
Video mirrored by the camera app
Thinking of buying one, should I? Its a Trophy manual.
No idea what a Trophy manual drives like and what other options do you have.
Hi, have you been happy with the car? We are thinking of buying one
Chinese build.
Right now at the Bangkok Motor Show the HS 2.5LT X model (top trim) is on offer for 809,000 bht, or AUD $35k. I am booked to tst drive one in to days. For another 210k bht they offer teh PHEV version. Testing that too.

Reset switch is RHS of steering wheel. Guess he didn’t read the manual! You press it UP, not down.
How did you sort out the glitchy key, how did you enter the car/unlock the car
Just waited a few seconds, came closer to the car to let it detect the key (I'm guessing?) and it worked fine (never had this issue again)
Hi there, thank you for the great video. When the car goes above 15km p/h the auto door lock clicks on. Do you know how to turn this off? Many thanks, Eddie
Good question and I have no idea mate... Have you checked the manual for it? It never bothered me, so I never did
You can not turn it off. And why would you? Anti theft (car jacking). Sometimes you may just need to try the door handle twice to get out especially if you're in a hurry and can not wait 3 seconds.
Hi I am planning to buy a mg gt is it reliable and don't break down after 1 year?
I don't know what an MG GT is but I doubt any new car breaks down after 1 year these days... Plus, you have a 7 year warranty
Hi Mate, you mention the infotainment can play youtube. What video is that in?
Thanks for the reminder - I've never actually expanded on that... What I meant was that once your phone is paired via bluetooth, you can simply open TH-cam app on the phone and start any video and the AUDIO from it will play through infotainment, and you can drive and listen to it - like to a podcast, or review, guide, etc, something you don't actually need to WATCH. Hope it helps! 😉👍
In UK we can get petrol lower than 95.
It is commonly known only higher versions of Android could work with Android Auto properly! Not detected sound like the Android version too low and behind!
That was back in 2021. If it was now, I'd just plug one of those wireless adapters and be done with it.
Q: Does the key fob have a flick-up manual metal key like a Peugeot 207?
Yes, you open it and take it out. Check out my more recent video on "the best fob" - ZST has the same key as HS
ps . over in uk i have just found mG HS PHEV for £ 30 k on the road DEAL in exclusive with auto box .
@@ValueCarsAU not spamming , wouldnt waste my time sir
You seem quite savvy on cars so i GENUINELY asked what you may think of a host of others of others that i am considering which cost 10k more in UK pounds as sent in previous message @@ValueCarsAU
Hi there,
I recall you mentioned you also have the MG ZST. Do the ZST also have the same issues as the ones you mentioned with the HS?
I've posted a lot of videos following this one specifically about our ZST - please check the channel if you're really into your research. In short, no, ZST doesn't have the issues of HS (other than sucky infotainment)
@@ValueCarsAU cool, thanks, I'll check the videos out :)
Sir. What is the fuel consumption of the MG HS car on city driving?
I have a detailed video about that on my channel, take a look mate. I think it's about 500 per tank
The example of how DCT works deserve a thumb up 😂
Glad you liked something in the video! 🤣👍
I love my mg ZST essence. I also brought a dash mat from MG best dash mat I have ever had. Rubber back non slip. Really good.
Dash mat to throw things on? That's not a bad idea. I bought something similar with a phone holder for my LDV as dash there is absolutely massive.
Looking at buying a 2020 HS, Has anyone found that the dash trimming around the start button is coming off( peeling away formbutton),and that the Black plastic molds under the External rear vision mirrors are fading?
I haven't had the car long enough to help you out with this, sorry mate, maybe someone else will comment.
Could you please tell me Is the indicator located on the right hand side of the steering wheel stork. ( the right hand side is better)
Can't remember and don't have my MG HS unfortunately, but hopefully someone else answers
Do you know if this is happening also in the 2023 european versions?
Absolutely no idea, sorry
Just a thought... if you are not familiar with the name of the Andoid car connection system (Android Auto), its very possible you didn't have the Android Auto app installed on your phone; which may be why the car didn't recognise it as it is required for it work I think. Tks for the informative video.
Good point my friend, but turns out this thing comes as a base part of Android system, and the issue turned out to be with the cable I've used - as I've explained in another video :)
@@ValueCarsAU Awesome, glad you got it to work; and thanks for the reply.
Point number 2 is surely a safety feature if you fall asleep or are not concentrating.
Maybe calling it auto pilot is the bad idea here
Auto pilot is definitely not what it is, but the context provided explained that it's not really a "self-driving Tesla".
Nice video. Now I am trying to to guess from your accent , you must be from Serbia/Slovenia/Croatia?
Russian. Thank you!
@@ValueCarsAU damn, I thought I nail it 😎.
Lol I hope it all settles for you mate, the car feels better over the next few days as you get used to it for sure.
Dont worry you are getting the updated one it wont do this if it does just take it in for the update
Haval.
I just wanted to hear about the dings and bongs where does the bong go😂😂😂😂
Did you use a data cable to connect to the usb? Some cables are charging cables only.
Yes, the cable was dodgy as I reported in later videos
My MGHs Piev doesn’t seem to have an automatic forward parking sensor? Is there one?
Not sure about PREV sorry
Thank you for a great honest review! I thought I was the only one that care about most of the things you said! Thank you!😅
You're definitely not alone! 😉
Hi, what is the avg. mpg if you just run it on petrol please?
I have a Mitsubishi Outlander phev and it does approx. avg. 40mpg on fuel alone.
Hey mate, we drive in the city mostly, and average 400-450 kms on one tank, usually considerably more if the car is used on a highway. Tank is rather tiny (45-48 litres). This obviously depends on how much time we drive with air con on, but these numbers are average for us so far.
