    What is Transmission?
    The transmission system is one of a vehicle's most basic and important parts. You can define it like this, it transfers power from the engine to the wheels. Transmission simply refers to the gearbox, which uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque.
    Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT):
    Simply and quite accurately put, the iMT is a clutchless manual transmission. It is similar to a manual gearbox, with gears and a gear lever. The driver almost feels like an automatic car as the iMT doesn’t have a clutch pedal but a brake and an accelerator pedal.
    The iMT transmission system cannot automatically shift gears. On the other hand, with an IMT car compared to a manual transmission car, fuel efficiency and mileage are subjective and dependent on the driver's driving style.
    Dual-clutch Transmission (DVT):
    This transmission employs two separate clutches for odd and even gear sets, allowing for especially quick shifts. The design is often similar to two manual transmissions in that their respective clutches are within a housing and operate as a single unit.
    The DCT operates like an automatic transmission, requiring no driver input to change gears. This transmission type can generally be automatically operated or moved manually with the pedals on the steering wheel.
    Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT):
    These are pulley-based transmissions primarily used in small vehicles with smaller engines, and they can change gears seamlessly through a constant gear ratio. This is in opposition to other transmissions that offer a limited number of gear ratios in fixed stages.
    The IVT uses two pulleys between which a steel belt runs. To continuously change its gear ratio, the IVT simultaneously adjusts the diameter of the “drive pulley,” which transmits torque from the engine, and the “drive pulley,” which transfers torque to the wheels.

    I have a 18 RLX Sport hybrid and 19 MDX Sport hybrid with a 7DCT with wet clutches. The 7DCT also has a 47hp electric motor within the 7DCT for more power, power generator for battery pack, helps powers rear 72hp twin electric motors, tq vectoring, and regen braking.

    I have an 21 Kia forte LXS with an iVT. You honestly would never know that it didn't have have gears. Every "gear" shift feels great and authentic all the way up to 8th. Manual sport mode is made even more satisfying by the computer keeping the car at a higher RPM resulting in a touchier more powerful experience and it even makes the steering wheel slightly stiffer. It feels so much like a sports car that you almost forget you're in a four banger lol.

    IVT or CVT is super cool. It lets you achieve the torque and speed you want. Stress free driving especially in city traffic. I m loving it

    Mercedes had an IMT in the A-Class 25 years ago. I have a first-generation A-Class from 2003 with a manual gearbox with robotic clutches-IMT. In my opinion, it is the best gearbox of all gearboxes. It is not clear to me that there are no more such cars. My Mercedes has 230,000 km. I never had a problem with the gearbox. Never.

    4:59 I like how they’re talking about the benefits of a dct in terms of racing performance and then proceeds to show a clip of a car that comes exclusively with a manual transmission only.

    The 2001 Mercedes A190 had the IMT gearbox, but it was much more like a manual than this new system, to shift gears you had to take your foot off the accelerator pedal, then shift, otherwise it would over rev, just like if you changed gears in a manual without removing your foot from the accelerator pedal.

      Author IS describing a CVT, and does not know what IVT means. IVTs (I is for infinitely) are usually hydrostatic, but can also use a friction wheel to adjust the ratio all the way to gear 0, and smoothly into reverse with no slipping. A hydrostatic IVT is used when precise, slow movement and long-term durability are more important than top speed and energy cost. IVTs usually take a minimum amount of force to turn even when the vehicle is not accelerating, this is a parasitic energy loss from internal friction, but this can be overcome by a gain in efficiency from reducing engine RPM to only what is needed, and reduced maintenance costs as all friction surfaces can be well lubricated.

    Wrong abbreviation dude. The ones you mentioned are actually clutchless manual (iMT in your description), and CVT (IVT in your description).
    There are actually 2 categories of transmission which are manual (including clutchless manual), and automatic. The latter consists of AMT (AI controller manual), AT (planetary), DCT (dual clutch) and CVT (pullies).

    This video refers to hyundai terms than generic terms. IVT is CVT.. similar to apple calling LCD as retina display

    I see a lot of people commenting here wanting a fully manual transmission cars. It’s personal choice. I prefer DCT because they are smoother and effortless making driving through traffic and ease.

      It is better in performance but TC will give u less fuel efficiency compared to CVT/IVT

    I think AMT with a clutch padel is a good idea.
    So one can enjoy full auto ,semi auto sequential and fully manual sequential transmission when needed!

      The problem is it is very complicated to make and produce. Plus it just beat the purpose of having automatic because they don't want to step on the clutch all day and worry about gears. If you want a clutch pedal, it's not the end of the world just buy a manual car and you still have the options to buy automatic.

    The imt is a better choice for those who prefer changing gears manually by their hands., while the comparison can be between Dct n ivt I.e the Dual clutch transmission Dct and the IVT intelligent variable transmission., the IVT will be of a quicker than that of Dct ., the ivt responds with more presence and spontaneous to that of the drivers attitude towards applying the throttle as per the gear change I hope so

    IMT but without button to press before changing gear.
    Moreover there's company that can make a manual transmission to either IMT or AT, with a switch of a button(they add robot/AI that press the clutch).
    It even allows you to custom AT, automatic gear change on your preferred rpm.
    If the IMT have button(have to press before change gear) then I prefer DCT.

    Why build a H pattern shifting without a foot clutch?
    Isnt it just like a manual sequential shifter??
    The only difference i can see is that you can go to neutral anytime, instead of the sequential.

    CVT. IVT is something different, Infinitely variable, and no cars are aold with it. They are used in agriculture, construction and material handling for vehicles that need fine, very low speed drive control. Automotive CVTs have a ratio floor, where a torque converter churns to let you slow down further with the brakes instead of having transmission authority at low speeds.

    Well, in my own understanding, I could say that all vehicles/cars/SUVs, particular to Hyundai Venue, with "iMT" are just like Honda Wave, Honda XRM, Kawasaki Fury or Suzuki Smash motorcycles because those motorcycles can be driven/ridden without using clutch / clutch lever..

    Even though the ivt does simulate gear shifts pretty well, it can't beat the feeling of a traditional automatic with ACTUAL gear shifts. Not to mention a manual transmission is way better as well. DCT are just on a whole other level 😅. Those DCTs are quick!

      I have also booked i20 ivt. But im now worried about its reliability as on Internet I've read it failing in 20 to 30k kms. And they cost upwards of 4.5 lakhs for replacement.

      Problem is if you’re shopping for a new car or light truck many manufacturers have stop offering them. And newer automatic transmissions are just as if not more reliable than yesterday’s standard transmissions.

    MAnual is still the best. Can last millions of miles, 35% more efficient than auto, cheap to maintain and driver have full control over manual. Do not buy automatic unless u are handicapped individual. I have both auto and manual of the same car model and i drive 12hours per day 24/7. The worst is cvt only lasted 60,000 km to 100,000km and belt will fail and cannot be fixed. Whole box need to be replaced.

    Don't listen to the dealer when they say lifetime fluid. Lifetime for them is 100k miles. Change fluid every 30-50k miles and it'll last a long time.

    ... IMT... So it's like a manual without actually giving you the single most useful control that you can have in emergency situations aside from the hand break... Sounds about right for this day and age. Fuck driver skills and the ability to control their car, let's just stuff a shit ton of electronics.

      @@meek146 using the clutch one can if the clutch is still functional decouple the engine from the transmission, essentially cutting the power to the wheels and with controlled breaking bring the car to an effective and safe stop. If the car loses traction due to oversteer one can perform a clutch kick to attempt to regain traction, coupled with counter steering you can save a car from a skid if caught early enough, if you understeer into a corner to the point where it's dangerous you can also bring the car back to control through a light break tap combined with a clutch kick to assure exit out of a corner. If you're in a RWD and for some reason, let's say your left or right hand is injured and you can't properly pass the wheel between hands to steer, minimal steering input with a clutch kick and quick counter steer can get you through just about any corner. If your gearbox locks up and is stuck into a gear, clutching in basically unloads the gearbox allowing you a chance to bring it out your self or at least hold the clutch and break down to safely stop the car. If your gas gets stuck you can use the clutch to regulate speed.

      My Maruti Celerio AMT failed at 24k kms in Bangalore Traffic so it's not reliable, though it was well maintained with periodic service, driven by a single person with utmost care.
      The replacement cost is 85k.

      @@pavanreddy21 Maruti service advisor told it is a known defect in some models between 2014-2017. If within the warranty period they replace it for free, beyond warranty it's bad luck like in my case. I fixed it with the help of a local mechanic and sold it to Spinny telling them the fact.

    I really don't like imt, It's very counterintuitive, Better go for a DSG or a CVT or even IVT instead.
    Make sure there is a manual mode to select gears in auto gear box you have So you can shift down when you overtake.

      A lot of Modern Rally Cars are IMT. They literally manual gearbox but don't have clutch pedal, allowing the driver to instantly shift up and down while keep hammering down the gas.

      Well, Rally Cars transmission kinda different from IMT as demonstrated in this video but the working principal is the same.
      No Clutch pedal, but still manual gearbox. Allowing Rally driver to enter and exit corners very quickly

      Your knowledge is way too weak or you haven't done your research, no offence.
      Rally cars have sequential gearbox not an IMT just like Motorcycle and they do have clutch buddy but it's just for 1 gear release and clutch is hand operated just like F1 cars(also the clutch is automate sometimes) Rest of the shift is taken care with quick shifter just like a motorcycle or I should say literally a motorcycle gearbox, where it cuts the engine power to let the gear shift. Manual or IMT allows you to choose whatever gear you want at any given time eg. From 6th to 2 directly, sequential doesn't allow that you have to go 6-5,4,3,2.
      Also most of the modern valley cars now use paddle shifters for electronically actuated sequential gearbox.
      Even motorcycles don't need clutch to shift if you can do it precisely or if you put on a quick shift on them.
      Sequential gearbox is the faster than manual or IMT (manual and IMT are dogleg gearbox don't confuse them with sequential) due to its simple mechanical nature.
      But there are also not as reliable on passenger cars due to their hai fiction setup, they need to be serviced after every rally stage(same with engine as most of the parts are high tolerance)
      In motorcycles these same gearbox are reliable due to less load on them and they have relaxed tolerance.
      An IMT box is an awful way of transmission, if you want to shift automatically just go for a paddle shifters, it is available on most gearboxes like CVT and DCT(DSG). Why would you want the hassle changing a gear with the leaver when you could do that with just your finger tips, also they are incredible fast even faster then sequential gearbox (yes they are so much faster) rally cars just use sequential because a dual clutch setup needs a lot of parts and it makes it more complicated to service them and they are more parts to failure as its electronically controlled, plus it would add more weight.
