MG Infotainment kinda SUCKS, so get a discounted W903 Carpuride Wireless Carplay instead! 😎👉th-cam.com/video/NwYsRIfpqr0/w-d-xo.html
🛑 IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DCT usage described in this video 🛑
My dear viewers, as suspected - it looks like I just don't understand DCT properly, hence the mistake I made in car operation, resulting in this video - at least on the topic of DCT... The electronic glitch story (second topic) still stands, by the way...
Thank you to Bob and others who explained to me how DCT works - in MG HS at least - and that I'm supposed to be using "Auto Hold" on incline feature that should allow me (and you!) to come to a full stop on the incline and let the car hold itself in that inclined position, without rolling back.
I've never had to do this in any of my previous cars with "normal" automatic transmissions - as I've expressed in the video - which is why this uninformed use of a DCT caused the issue I'm describing. If you don't repeat my mistake, you should be fine, and hopefully I won't see this warning ever again either. I will post an update video (if required), once I had a chance to properly test this!
Thank you all for your interest and support!

Hi from the UK. So are you using the auto hold function. Because you should be. Pull up behind the traffic and come to a standstill. The car will auto hold. I'm not talking about the electric handbrake. But the button next to it. As soon as you can move forward just accelerate. The car will auto release the brake so it will move. This will repeat every time you come to a stop. This is the correct way to use the DCT without causing any problems or rolling back. Do not balance the car with the throttle as this will eventually damage the gearbox. Auto hold should be switched on and left on. Your other issue I don't know enough about what's actually going on. Also did you manage to get the infotainment system updated. Uk cars have this update done already. I would contact the dealer about any glitches. It's all manufacturers that suffer. My SEAT LEON had glitches that happen every now and again. I think it's probably just because of the amount of electronic systems that are built in to new vehicles. 👍

Thanks a lot for your advice, Bob, I suspected that I'm doing something wrong, aka "old style" of being used to the "not smart cars"... No, I didn't know about auto hold function, will take a look at the buttons next to the hand brake... I guess part of the fun of it is the discovery of things I didn't know - so thanks again for pointing it out for me!

ZST has a conventional 6 speed automatic with a torque converter that provides creeping in traffic and hill holding momentum as always engaged when in drive setting. The 7 sp DCT in the HS like all DCTs cant creep (which saves fuel) and if driven this way you can overheat the transmission and wear the clutches. So the car is protecting itself. Also for the second issue you may have rubbed the steering column and engaged it’s locking mechanism which is an anti theft device - just a thought. Keep on sharing your experience though as many others probably have had similar experiences :)

Hello,Demitry...about DCT, It's normal to roll down when on up hill for the DCT transmission, you shouldn't hold with accelerater on up hill ,that's why you have dct warning! the ZST have different transmission, that's why don't have problem, also dct transmissions are not suitable for heavy traffic when stop start, they do feel rough, every automatic transmissions are all different,it depends what kind of driving that you do,for example CVT are good fuel economy ideal for city driving, dct good HWY and high performances and basic 6 speed standards automatic for both way and also ideal for towing....

Hmmm, the problems you are having are interesting… I once drove my mother’s HS Essenceand interestingly, it did creep forward when I released the brake. Not as much as a conventional torque converter, but my some margin, it did roll forward a bit up to about 4km/h. I don’t know if mg is just inconsistent in their build quality, but from what I heard, my mother is really enjoying her car. She has owned it for 1 and a years now. Also, something interesting is that my mother doesn’t really use the auto brake hold on little hills (like the 15 degree incline you were talking about) and the car handles it just fine, it is interesting and I will look further into it to assist you. I am enjoying the videos and I appreciate the time you take out of your day to make these for us, in case anybody else has these problems :)

love the video's mate keep it up ,I'm the owner of MG HS. since new have put over 20 k km,s on the car ..
my first problem I discovered was also in traffic on hills rolling back or very rough take offs I found the solution ,Next to the electronic handbrake there is an auto hold button (A) it will apply the brake when stationary, there's an indicative symbol on the LHS of the display to show that it's engaged. Then you can release your right foot on the brake (the pedal stays where you left it which feels a bit strange at first) and then once you are able to pull away the brake will automatically release once you apply the accelerator.. still after all the km,s not happy with the feel and performance of transmission..
I have also experienced the electronic glitches false start no response etc never the steering wheel warning but ..
here's few other issues I have experienced the Collision avoidance system glitching giving off sensor readings when nothing is there and camera warning saying to unblock view of front camera when nothing is obstructing the view ...
very recent one driver door handle malfunction not opening or sometimes wont close ..
have chased all these issues up with warranty at mg service center heads up it does take a lot for them to admit a fault an address the issue
overall it is good family car for the price range I'm happy with it but as you also said its all the small malfunctions an glitches they start to get annoying and build up sometimes you have in back of your mind what new problem is going to arise today..

It sounds like a lot of nonsense to put up with when you have a new car. I've had my Toyota Yaris for 14 years with hardly any problems. I drove an MG hire car and it was a nightmare because there were times when I was pressing on the accelerator and the car wouldn't move, this felt dangerous because I thought if I pressed too hard the car might suddenly take off.

The roll back on an incline happened to me twice during my test drive of the HS. I quickly put the auto hold on so I didn’t roll back into the car behind me. Thankfully I knew it was there due to TH-cam research prior to the test drive. But I also drove the ZST on exactly the same route during my two test drives of that model and didn’t need the auto hold on. I think it definitely must have something to do with the difference in transmissions.

Regarding "release steering column", you need to apply some pressure to the steering wheel turning is slightly left or right to unload the locking pin to allow it to release. (An old fashioned car with a key will also need some pressure released from the steering wheel to get it off the lock pin if you had turned the steering wheel with the key out of it).

Think of DCT as similar to a manual gearbox, it is not the same as a traditional torque converter gearbox. You wouldn't hold a manual gearbox car on an incline while riding the clutch because it will wear out the clutch prematurely. This is what you've been doing with your car. You should use the Auto Hold button - it's there for exactly this kind of scenario.

Simply use the "Auto Hold" all you need to do is put your foot on the brake. The brake symbol will show Green which means you do not need to hold your foot on the brake and when you re ready to go JUST put your foot on the Accelerator.
It will save you having to hold your foot on the brake in traffic.

2 things. Auto hold feature is designed for this but you get the warning message due to the car knowing the gearbox/accelerator is pressed but can't detect wheel speed so believes there is an issue (possible slip in transmission clutches)
Second thing (same issue) is the battery in the key isn't strong enough for the car to read to unlock steering column lock. Of you look in the front cup holder there should be a unlock symbol and you need to place your key in there for the car to read the key if the fob battery is dead/low. Hopefully this helps you out a bit

With the release steering, I'm assuming it means the steering was locked? Like if you turn the wheel whilst the car is off, the wheel locks in place for security reasons.
I'm sure you had to just turn the wheel with some pressure when the message came on just to unlock it.
Edit : Yup, I've googled it, just had to put some pressure in to the wheel to turn it before the error goes away.

    • @ValueCarsAU

I wouldn't know the difference between 2020 and 2022 models to be honest, but would check the whole thing over a long test drive if I were you picking a new car in 2022. Electronics - especially infotainment - was a bit sluggish in my HS 2021, and the whole infotainment system was due for a refresh that I think they were getting at least in UK and India. In AU we still had old software.

I am in the process of buying the same MG this is a bit worrying
Just a thought as an electronic engineer what you are discribing is normally caused by static electricity
Does it happen normally in a thunderstorm or do you normally get electric shock when entering the car just a thought try connecting a anti static strip to the back of the car i hope it works as i am in the process of buying onee Good Luck

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey, I think it's just how I was driving/operating it that's the issue, not static electricity or something else, but I'm not a specialist - so it's just an educated guess, plus a lot of people already chipped in their opinions in the comments too, which helped me. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you don't mind how DCT works in general, i.e. how it shifts the gears, possibly jerks a bit, etc.

I wouldn't recommend, I drove an MG for a week and this accelerator issue was a big problem for me. I drive a lot of different hire cars for work as well as my 14 year old Toyota Yaris and I've only encountered this problem with the MG. I didn't feel safe because the car wouldn't move when I put significant pressure on the accelerator but I didn't want to press any harder otherwise the car might take off.

I'm sorry my friend, I don't have the car for many months now, so can't double check for you... What I'd do if in doubt though is 1) check the manual about the lights - what does it say? 2) call your MG service centre, I assume the car is on warranty still, so they should resolve any issues or concerns you might have.

I now have 22,000km on Shimano parts made in Asia (Not China). So yes I am concerned in recent years. Plus the resale is very bad with Chinese brands.
