    Some great tips for newbies Bob and Jenny. Your point about finding a spot for good Satellite reception brought back many memories of my wife and I doing similar, driving round huge campsites, especially abroad, trying to find good reception. Likewise Wi-Fi. On C&MC sites this is generally not a problem as they have good Wi-Fi but private sites and most sites abroad have variable reception. So where we're allowed to choose our own pitch we spend a bit of time walking round with our phones in hand to see where the best reception is. Also my wife always tries to avoid parking anywhere near a family with young kids. Not that we don't like young kids, we love to see them enjoying themselves in the great outdoors, but they tend to be noisy in the early morning when we're still sleeping, and quite often oblivious to pitch boundaries.

    When reversing it is recommended that you have someone checking the rear outside, small children seem to have the power to beam themselves from nowhere. We have a "beeping" reversing bulb (under £10) and also put the hazard lights on.

    The out take made us chuckle. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge once again. We're members of the Caravan and camping club and their sites look lovely we've only managed to use two of their sites so far. We haven't had our Motorhome that long. We're going to join the Caravan and Motorhome club as we've discovered there are lots of sites not too far from where we live so would be good to check them out. The Motorhome day parking info was also useful. I now have a notebook and jot down a lot of recommendations you give Bob 🤣. Looking forward to more updates from you both. Take care- Wend and Rog.

    Excellent topic ideas and well informed. Just a couple more I'd add along with not relying too much on the reversing mirrors and cameras. Always walk over the ground to make sure there's no hidden pot holes or soft or muddy ground that you will sink into. Also don't pitch under trees at certain times of the year, we got caught out ounce at Chertsey cc. The birds had gourged themselves on elderberries during the day and used the tree's over our brand new awning to empty themselves splattering it with red splotches. Luckily it washed off.
    ASDA when it was part of the American Walmart used to allow trucks and overnight campers (some still do) on certain parts of their car parks. It's only polite to buy from them when using their facilities and please don't leave litter etc.

    It's not only trees that are vicious. I found a shop building lurking menacingly near "The Woods" campsite (Scotland). As I reversed back into the parking space, I thought I had plenty of room before hitting the shop front. I looked to my right; still reversing; when I noticed an elderly gentleman with a grimace on his face. I stopped, still thinking I had plenty off room to go. Got out and saw there was still about 3mtr to go, then looked up to see the shops awning approx 50mm from the top of the motorhome. Very nearly a costly mistake. This was my first journey out in the motorhome, and less than 2 minutes from the site. 😱 👍🖖🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Another great video. Thanks Bob and Jenny! 👏. Not done much pitching up since we got a motorhome last August, but two of our sites last year had to put us on sloping pitches - one was sideways and the other was back to front slope. And the amount of slope was different at all corners too. Obviously one corner is taken as the highest (reference) corner but how much residual slope can be tolerated? And is there a technique to get as level as possible using a spirit level and or a “bubble “APP? (I have the motorhome levelling app which tells me the centimetres required at each of the “lower” three wheels but how to use ramps?

    Just bought our first motorhome after around 30 years of caravanning. Thank you, Bob and Jenny for your very informative videos, especially the New to Motorhoming series. We are looking forward to getting out in our new motorhome once Covid restrictions allow. Currently we are looking at devices to dog-proof our habitation door after discovering one of our Springers can not only open it himself, but lock it once he is inside! It's a good job we were only on our driveway. (He is a nightmare for door opening in the house, too.) We have discovered through internet searches that there are lots of child/dog-proof devices, but many only work on certain types of habitation door locks. Our previous caravan door was different and he couldn't get his paw on it or his nose under it. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Bob & Anne

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo

      The Caravan and Motorhome Club allow you to choose your own pitch, but how would anyone know where the noisy or nosy people are going to go? Some sites have more secluded pitches, but I don't think any have pitches away from everyone else! We tend to favour adult only sites during school holidays, but that not be possible for you.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo

      Good question, but you need to ask the site. Some allow a canopy on non awning pitches.

    • @firstmotorhome8024
      @firstmotorhome8024 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      CAMC sites normally allow a wind out canopy on a non awning pitch as long as it doesn’t have sides. If you attach something like a safari room then it will be classed as an awning and will require the relevant pitch .

    @Daveindurham 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t understand why with technology today as it is the big two clubs don’t offer the facility to book a numbered pitch. Some of the tranquil parks allow you to do this online, stops the race to get to the site at 12.00 or 13.00 to get first pick of the pitches. I got a feeble excuse from the C&MHC when I asked. They thought too many people would not want to book their site if they could not get a specific pitch, funny how as an example Eye Kettleby is generally very often heavily booked.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like a good idea so reduce the scramble for the best pitches, but I prefer to choose a pitch when I get there. Some of the Tranquil Parks we have been to decide the pitch for you before you arrive.

    Very good advice there, Bob and Jenny. We always carry a small compass, as arriving on a dull day, nice to know where the sun will rise if it appears. Totally agree with not understanding why MH’s aren’t fitted with sensors . I always tried to reverse into spaces and park where there was a grass/no car space at one side, when we had a LR Disco, so will carry on with the MH. When we did get out a couple of times last year, we were disappointed to find that car parks in Wells Next the Sea and Holkham, in Norfolk had put in height barriers and signs saying NO MOTORHOMES. we had googled before we left the site we were on, and they were not shown, as obviously a new thing. My husband has always complained why the MCC don’t spend a little more time levelling pitches, when they make them hard standing. With the caravan, it wasn’t as important, as we were staying put for a longer period and only need to level up once, but now we have the motorhome, and with hubby having heart failure, this is going to make our stays a bit more labour intensive, when we can get out and about again.
    Keep up the good work, we love to watch your adventures, and it really helps keeping our spirits up and gives us hope that we will be getting out there again soon, in our expensive garden ornament! 😍 Cuddles to Poppy. 🐾🐾
