I've always found funny how Yu and P3MC (whatever his name is) have almost THE EXACT same mythological figure as Persona. Orfeus = Izanagi. Their most famous tale is the same lol
There are little details in Izanagi's design that make it my favorite starter persona. Like his shoes that resemble geta in a way, the symbol in his shoulders being golden chrysanthemum flower, the symbol/crest of the Japanese imperial family to his overall outfit resembling a male ōendan squad uniform that is a counterapart to the more popular cheerleaders (Konohana Sakuya looks like one as well) without the ascot. Really great video!
Another thing connecting Shadow Yosuke and Jiraiya is that crest that resembles a large toothy smile that appears first on the frog, representing Yosuke faking a smile all the time while he's really just flailing about helplessly like the figure on top of the frog. On Jiraiya himself, though, the smile appears on his chest, representing now that he's finding true happiness, and he's also now free from simply flailing about on that frog. Unfortunately unlike Yosuke, I don't really find that much symbolism behind the things carried over from Shadow Chie to Tomoe such as the yellow clothes or long black hair. Shadow Yukiko's cage and lit chandelier are a nice nod to Konohana Sakuya's burning hut bit, but I can't really find any symbolism behind what transfers over from the Shadow to the Persona, either, unfortunately. On Kanji's bit, I found out some time ago that a male tailor used to actually be called a seamster, which then makes "seamstress" make sense as a word referring to a female of the same position.
Having thought about it now, I at least know that Konohana Sakuya's still somewhat feathery-looking appearance and not being in any cage anymore suggests that while Yukiko felt trapped before, she's now taking action to find her own freedom.
Jiraiya's design prolly is based on Tokusatsu (especially Kamen Rider, that's why he have a scar), He looks like a Hero of Justice bc that's what Yousuke aspire to be
Some of the design elements I thought were just from the shadows which transform into thier personas like himiko's dish head And yoskue shadow takes the form of a giant frog which a humanoid figure on top of it But they way you interpreted the way they look. Also tomeao jumpsuit Is just a Bruce Lee reference which is cool and adds to chiea who loves martial arts.
1) Detail about Jiraya: Thanks to the fight game Persona 4 Arena and its sequel Ultimax, we know that Jiraya's "smily golden thing" is actually a weapon, which he can use as a dagger or short sword as seen in his 2C move (Jiraya crouches and slashes in front of him with that thing). 2) Also, it's worth mentioning that the stories on both fighting games are canon and happen just before the epilogue in P4 Golden. 3) The vault in Kintoki Douji is used in the FGs as part of Kuma's Instant Kill (yeah, I preffer using his japanese name): th-cam.com/video/WkUNVdHXquw/w-d-xo.htmlm18s 4) I remember years ago someone saying that Jiraya's eyes aren't really the circles covered by the golder shurikens, but actually those really small black dots below the shurikens. Is this true?
I don't think the marks on Tomoe's "hat" are actually yin-yang signs, but instead two tomoes, with all the naruto jokes in the vid I though you'd catch on with how they're used in the sharingan to mark stuff

"Dying with a woman is the ultimate shame"-Lord Yoshinaka on the Lordillionaire grindset Well Chie certainly has heart, but not skill. Her "skills" are taken directly from Bruce Lee and the like. She's a decent _enough_ fighter, but if she turned to actual martial arts, she would be exactly alike Tomoe. But being a skillful fighter would just ruin her character imo.
I liked that part a lot, I didn't like 4's characters either. Great exceptions were Kanji and Naoto, everyone else was your average insufferable anime cliché.

Honestly I think very little of the characters parallels the mythological stories and there's a lot of pulling at straw to make connections. I just think that there was an executive decision to give all the characters quintessentially Japanese personas because it's set in a rural setting and that's trad. But then again I'm a Persona 4 disdainer.

Izanagi’s story can sort of be tied to Yu and Marie’s story, with Yu actually succeeding in bringing her out of the shadow world
