  • Meaning Behind The Persona is a series dedicated to the lore and history of the main cast's Personas throughout the Persona games. This video is diving deep into Persona 3's characters. This is a polarizing game, but put all that aside and let's learn about some Greek mythology. Special Thanks to Marsh for helping out with the video as well. Consider it somewhat of a Persona 3 analysis or persona 3 review or sorts. Explaining the personas of persona 3 can help you understand and appreciate the story that much more.

    The mechanical design of Orpheus may actually be in reference to his death. It was said that his body was entirely torn apart, with the only thing remaining being his head, explaining why the persona's head seems more natural.

    I could've sworn I'd heard somewhere that the giant buzzsaw in the design for Nemesis was supposed to be a nod to the cyclical nature of revenge. I also find it really cool that the circle around Nemesis grows into a more complex spherical shape with Kala-Nemi, possibly symbolizing Ken maturing from the incident with Shinji and realizing there is more than just revenge.

  • @r.nova1017
    @r.nova1017 2 ปีที่แล้ว +57

    I believe the reason for Nemesis' design is supposed to represent the another representation of a "Nemesis" instead of Nemesis the deity/embodiment of retribution itself, being that of something of agent meant to cause ruin or downfall and having negative undertones to it. Granted the fact that Ken's Nemesis has a more sinister smile and look it sort of makes sense, not to mention a literal fucking buzzsaw is menacing in of Its own right. Plus not to mention Ken is still just a kid, while having capabilities unlike some of his peers, he's still naive and a little ignorant until Shinjiro basically gave him the talk about regret. This nemesis is just representation some if not many think what the concept is other than being a rival or retributive justice.

  • @ZylethXenocian
    @ZylethXenocian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    Actually the second "sword" in Penthesilea's design is a parrying dagger, a dagger used in fencing to parry attacks from the opponent, though most forms of the sport don't use it. It was, however, used fairly often in actual combat.

  • @stripesinflight
    @stripesinflight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    According to the official design book, Fuuka was self sacrificing and closed off person. When she got her first friends she awoke to her persona. So I guess it makes sense... Also Soejima based her on the version in which Lucia took her own eyes.
    Hermes was originally planned to be the MC's persona. You didn't talk about Trismegistus. He was an alchemist, who was rumored to have the philosophers stone.
    Artemisia is based on Artemis and Kala-Nemi a pre-Vedic spirit of the stars and time.

  • @Daniel_Coffman

    I think Nemesis' sawblade may reference how vengeance, like a circle, is never-ending. Take revenge on someone, and those close to that person will try to take revenge on you; which if successful, will prompt those close to you to take revenge on them, etc; just one big, never-ending feud. The sawblade itself likely would thus represent how when you're working with a sawblade, you always stand a risk of getting cut if you're not careful, with edges always facing toward some part of you just like how the potential of others taking revenge on you is always a risk you're running when you decide to take revenge.
    Obviously, working with a sawblade as a profession probably isn't as likely to injure you due to you obviously being trained to use it and trained on safety procedures, but vengeance is usually if not always done on a whim and thus without taking any "safety procedures;" if there are any such things regarding revenge; into account.

Yeah, it basically represents the same thing as the shares the exact same symbolism and elements, except with FeMC Orpheus, the center mechanical body seems to be made of gold or bronze, the face is pale white, the hair is long and orange and the lyre is shaped like a love heart. Also, one interesting thing about Hermes and Io is they've actually met each other in one story from Greek Mythology, where that story was Io was imprisoned by Hera and the prison is guarded by a giant multi-eyed monster as a form of punishment and the gods sent Hermes to rescue Io and he slayed the multi-eyed monster that was guarding her.
