A detail I always loved is how you can actually get Nyarlathotep after defeating Kandori, but only Reiji can use it and even then they're still extremely low compatibility
I wanted to added a bit about for Aizen Myouou's design to Nanjo as a person. As someone from an aluent family you can see the heels as a person who lives elevated from his fellow man. The mask could be Nanjo's own masking of his emotions as you noted, the calm collected, rational Nanjo is the apparence of the young man still finding him and having to deal with the lose of someone dear who meant so much to him during the time of crisis (makes some more sense if you consider his final personal as his resolution and need to take responsibility of his social class). The extended, rather thin fingertips also show how Nanjo needs to be able to keep people at a fair distance due to their differences in standing, but with those thin tips you can make the assumption he's also attempting to reach out to those around him to connect to. Sorry just a big fan of Persona 1 and appreciate seeing any love for the game. Edit: I wanted to note that the handles on the heels could be how wealthy kids are usually directed in life to what their parents want in popular media culture and what not.

in the manga naoya also has an arc with his dead brother kazuya and it's really cool but sadly you can't really adapt that into a game. Naoya has so much personality too in it, he's my 2nd favorite persona protagonist behind yu.

I finished Persona 1 a few years back, and man,I'm so glad i didn't give in to such negative critics online. The game is obviously flawed, but the story, characters and settign are definetely worth the time spent. Side note: I got really curious about Freyr being Ayase's Ultimate persona, it doesn't seem to have any kind of relation to her personality, so...
Freya would have been better for her, but maybe the devs didn't liked her that much. I find it interesting that some of the personae of some of the characters don't fit their genders, like Ayase with Freyr as you mentioned, Eriko with Gabriel and Hidehiko and his persona Nemhain.
Here's what I found on it: it's meant as a contrast to her initial Persona and the idea of finding love. The Houri don't get a choice in the matter. Ayase's just going along with what other people expect of her, as Toro points out. Meanwhile, Freyr chose to give up his sword in order to find love. By the time of Persona 2, Ayase is one of two characters from the first game who doesn't show up, as she's settled down and started a family of her own.

Very great series. The connections amd origins of the personas relative to the users are talked about very little from what I've seen for some reason. Especially from p1 of course. Gotta appreciate the detail that went into the first venture. Extra love since its my personal favorite of the series
I should finish this game someday, the meanings of these personas were so cool... Kinda wish we would get these on PC so i don't have to revive my vita every time to play these, or maybe a full p2 localization of the remakes...
I haven't watched the video (sorry! No disrespect). But the title was recommended in my feed and I wanted to just come by and gush for this particular game. And I'm talking about the American version where Mark is black and not just a scene kid. This was the first Persona game I ever played. And I got it when PS1 was still current gen. And literally no one knew about this game. Back then it was a bit of a culture shock for an RPG. Years later I played Persona 3 and realized then that the direction these games were going in was deviating so sharply from what I originally experienced. Even compared to Persona 2, the original comes closest to what I started calling "horror RPGs" The heroes were just kids, the soundtrack was largely ambient noises and distant groaning or chanting sounds. The settings and dialogue were comparatively more mature than what we were experiencing at the time, and the gameplay and progression was so... Odd. Obviously this style wasn't popular, hence why they started drastically changing it up as early as Persona 2 with it's more Anime LA Noire feel to it. But damn if I wish we didn't just get more of this. They remade it for the PSP I believe, but they changed almost everything, even the tense, techno battle theme became a J-Pop song. 😭
One thing I still can't wrap my head around is how they made Reiji such a secret in Persona 1, when he is one of the characters with the most personal stakes in the story. Just by his backstory of revenge on Kandori for being a bastard child, he should've been a major character in the story, but no, instead he is a character where you need the IGN Guide to actually be able to get.
Personas and demons are the same thing, people often let their pride take them over because they don't like the persona series, but the truth is, Personas and demons are the same exact thing. Just different ways of being summoned. With that in mind, time to explain what they are : Demons/personas are archetypes based upon the ideal world for Jung and Plato. The Megami tensei franchise has both platonic and Jungian archetypes. Archetypes are abstract ideas born from human thoughts and are decided upon the collective unconscious. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Stephen explains this and describes it as "the power of observation" it's an ability given to humans (and a few certain individuals) to bring gods and demons into existence. This is commonly referred to as "subjective reality" (although it can reactive power levels functions too) Using this power, humans wish for demons into existence, and through the same observation, the demons being summoned are automatically empowered to their leader's level through a contract they make, that's how you can bring a canonically weak demon to fight the likes of Yhvh, because they're amped to Nanashi's level through Nanashi's observation. Let me address 2 misconceptions : 1. "the power of observation was used on Yhvh, that's why he's been weakened" Refutation : smt fans are just as bad as Pokémon fans at paying attention to the story. Yhvh is constantly under the effect of observation. All demons/personas/shadows are. 2. "why wasn't Yhvh weakened in smt 4 apocalypse when everyone was against him? That's a big plot hole!" Refutation : again, smt fans are garbage at paying attention to the story. Hating Yhvh doesn't mean denying him. For the whole game : everyone hated Yhvh, but no one denied him being the one true, undefeatable God until Nanashi and friends did otherwise. With that out of the way, time to put archetypes(demons, personas and whatnot) in order : Basic archetypes : literally any basic demon. Like Jack frost, pixie, literally any of these. Higher archetypes : demons who scale to much higher levels of existence(Schwartzwelt) like Sanat, Kagutsuchi, ancient of days and so on. True archetypes : demons who scale above the Atziluth/Kadath Mandala /Schwartzwelt like Yhvh (outside heaven) true form Nyx, Mem Aleph, Shekinah and so on. Transcendent archetypes : demons who scale up to the Heavenly throne and above like Yhvh (inside heavens) Vishnu-Flynn, Demi-Fiend, Abel, matter Lucifer and V-protage. Ultimate archetypes : they're archetypal entities that gave birth to all other archetypes, they're so vastly powerful that no one mentioned above can even scratch them, and they can easily destroy them all at any time they want. Like Philemon and Nyarlathotep.

I look back on Ayase's Persona and realize, that there is an astonishingly low amount of Islamic representation in Megami Tensei, aside from a few demons that just so happen to originate from Islam exclusively, any Abrahamic deities/figures who exist in the Qur'an only ever go by their Christian or Jewish titles.
...The "Evolution" from Houri to Freyr has gotta be one of the most unfitting Persona evolutions! Like, I was expecting some meaningful symbolism since the whole thing with Houri was pretty interesting to hear! Why is the ultimate Persona of a girl that just wants to eventually have her own family... Has to be a misogynistic douchebag?!
The explanation I found online theorized it was a contrast focused on the idea of finding love. The Houri didn't really have a choice in the matter. At the beginning of her story, Yuka is just kinda going along with what other people want, as Toro pointed out. Then Freyr chose to set his weapon down in order to find love for himself. Yuka is one of two party members who doesn't show up in Persona 2 because she's settled down and had a family.

...The "Evolution" from Houri to Freyr has gotta be one of the most unfitting Persona evolutions! Like, I was expecting some meaningful symbolism since the whole thing with Houri was pretty interesting to hear! Why is the ultimate Persona of a girl that just wants to eventually have her own family... Has to be a misogynistic douchebag?!

The explanation I found online theorized it was a contrast focused on the idea of finding love. The Houri didn't really have a choice in the matter. At the beginning of her story, Yuka is just kinda going along with what other people want, as Toro pointed out. Then Freyr chose to set his weapon down in order to find love for himself. Yuka is one of two party members who doesn't show up in Persona 2 because she's settled down and had a family.
