Sam has two wonderful monologues where she confronts Austin in the locker room and her stepmom before she even knows where she's gonna live - just wanted to throw that out there since it seemed to get skipped over. It really makes the ending more satisfying as it feels like Sam takes charge of her own outcomes. I do think she forgives Austin too quickly considering he chases after her the same evening she yells at him, but I always felt like she inspired him to be better (he stands up against his dad/peer pressure/etc, though this could be argued she is used in a manic pixie way in this regard)
I recommend the movie "Ever After A Cinderella story" starring Drew Barrymore, a 1998 movie.. its one of the best Cinderella story, at least for me.. 😁✌

Yeah this one is great. They tried to eliminate the "magic" elements of the story, by replacing the "fairy godmother" with Leonardo DaVinci which is both genius and hilarious.

I like the first one overall. It's a cute simple modern-day reimagining of it, but gods damnit if the guy isn't dumber than a sack of bricks. He's so oblivious it drags down the entire movie. Why couldn't they have just have it written so they never directly interacted or given her a better mask? Like c'mon that's so easy to avoid.

Another Cinderella Story was my FAVORITE movie when I was a kid I literally would watch it nonstop
I have watched almost every retelling of Cinderella including all the Cinderella Story films to date. While I love watching Cinderella movies, I do have to say that the Cinderella Story films get progressively worse with each installment. The last one, the Christmas one, was....interesting, I guess. Honestly, it was the disabled dog that got me through it.
I think the most popular, most watched Cinderella movie would be "tri orisky pro popelku", a 1973 german/chech version of the classic story. It's shown all across europe during Christmas. The norwegian version is dubbed by just one guy. It's a... Cultural treasure
i love that one soooo much. she is my most favourite version of a cinderella character ever, so confident and smart (also love her for being both a pretty good male hunter and a stunning princess). god, hope the americans here give it a shot. it's an old film, but it is the best cinderella retelling i know.
I love that movie! It's called Three Wishes for Cinderella or Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella in English. I stumbled across it one day years ago. It quickly became one of my favorite Cinderella re-tellings. The English version is just told by one guy as well.
I also fell in love with her final wedding dress. My goal is to make it one day.
This video made me realise that Captain America is technically a Cinderella retelling and now I will never be able to see Howard Stark as anything but the fairy godmother
I'm sad Ever After is not on here, its the best Cinderella story I've seen on screen. You should definitely watch it!
As someone who grew up with the Grimm's version, it's kind of a pity how all modern retellings focus on the romance. I get that it's difficult, because translating the amazing step up in class into modern society in a believable way is really hard. But I still feel that most films don't do this "girl whose life is nothing but labour and loneliness gets the happiest life that common people could imagine".
I would love to watch a horror/darker Cinderella movie based more on the original Grimm Brothers' fairy tale version. If anyone knows if that exists let me know.

Into the woods has a bunch of fairy tales in it, including cinderella, and it does retain more brothers grimm elements than the disney versions, but like, it's not thaaat dark. If into the woods was a straight-up horror musical with fairy tale themes, that would've been rad as hell

There is the movie Into The Woods, which includes a couple of. Well known classic fairy tails, which aren’t sugar coded. Instead are a lot, like there dark counterparts.

I had the displeasure of viewing that Christmas version a couple years ago with my ex. Like most of that relationship, I like to try and blot it out of my mind and chalk it up to a bad acid trip, but sometimes your demons find you in the most unexpected of places

Actually, my favorite Cinderella-related story is this one I saw on TV ages ago called "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister," starring Azura Skye as one of the step sisters. It may have been because it was probably my first, "fairy tale retold from the perspective of the villain" type stories, but I always thought it was really interesting. No idea how to find it now, though, or what channel it was on. Maybe it's something you could find on one of those streaming services with Surfshark?

I'm not into movies or series's and often don't really care about theories, lores, cultures around it, etc. but I have watched every single one of your videos so far. You just have a lovely voice that's nice to listen to and the way you talk about things make it fun to learn about these topics - even if I wouldn't otherwise. The cosplays (/ dresses) add a nice surprise or twist to the videos too. Keep doing you!

A Cinderella story with Hilary, I saw recently on a whim, and still found it enjoyable. It's fun.
Singing still isn't Selena's strong point. Anyways, what little I've seen of Another Cinderella Story, never appealed to me. I'm curious to see how much worse the others will be after this one. I don't know. I haven't heard of the any of the others, so maybe one will be pleasantly surprising?

I just commented about this! It's the best thing about the sequel.
The biggest problem of watching movies of our youth as adults is that our perceptions have changed and our brains have finished developing. Even a classic viewed as a young person will be totally different from what an adult takes away from it.
Few things from youth hold up when put through the lens of adulthood.
Cinderella remake highlights: the one where the prince charming character is like "aw naw" and talks to his dad and they call CPS, and the Christmas movie where they perfectly marry Cinderella with Twelfth Night (and all the acting is bad)
i find it funny that the brother's grimm version is labeled as dark. i grew up with it, as it is the normal version of that story in germany and always found the anglo version weirdly clean. someone on here already recommended it, but i personaly love Tři oříšky pro Popelku/
Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel. It's an east german/czech co-production from 1973. Both the prince and cinderella are really likeable people. I espescially love that cinderella is really confident and that there are lots of cute animals. It is closer to the grimm version than to the anglo version, but it stands by itself.
Is it the one that is always on TV at christmas? Where she dresses up as a hunter etc.?

The Hillary Duff Cinderella story was filmed at my high school and I share a last name with the main character, the way that movie hit for me is indescribable
I'm kind of shocked that the evil step sisters in the sequel are played by the same actresses who played the sisters from the Ginger Snaps trilogy
The first time I watched this movie I completely lost it when I saw them, it's fun to imagine Another Cinderella Story is part of the Ginger Snaps series and they might turn into werewolves at any moment

A bit off topic, but I was lucky enough to see Lily James and Richard Madden in Kenneth Branagh's production of "Romeo and Juliet". Slightly different ending than their version of "Cinderella". 😂
The only reason I even knew the second one existed, was because it had Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins playing sisters again and I am obsessed with Ginger Snaps (mainly the first one but the whole trilogy is pretty damn good).

Pointless but Amusing Observation of the Day: Julie Gonzalo (Shelby) from the first movie and Drew Seeley (Joey) from the second one both have visible and distinctive facial scars directly between their eyebrows.

I watched up until the Lucy Hale Cinderella Story, and I am not surprised that they beat the franchise into the ground. Granted I remember nothing about the Lucy Hale one except Freddie Stroma singing Knockin', which in my opinion, is a low key good song.
