My disappointment is from a larger picture perspective. It’s great if you have PSVR2 and a gaming PC, you can now use PCVR. What I wanted personally was more people to buy a new PSVR2 for PCVR and then maybe even buy a PS5 since they have a PSVR2. I want it to be successful and that means SALES and today’s announcement meant I can’t see that happening now. I hope I’m wrong and suddenly everything is hunky dory in the morning 😊

Quest 3 is PSVR's main competitor in PCVR at this price point. Quest 3 doesn't have HDR, haptic feedback, eye tracking, or OLED display. So, PSVR2 users are not missing out on anything.

@@ZerocoolsPropsandCollectibles PSVR 2 on PC will be connected via display port. No compression or possible artifacts where you need a real powerful PC to run Quest 3 to get the best image quality out of it via USB. I hear people complain about the image quality due to compression that is streamed to the device. PS VR 2 PC will act like a native PC VR headset. And being a native VR headset would mean more resources goes to game performance instead of streaming compression codecs.

Honestly the missing features aren't exactly in PCVR gaming to begin with in the first place, yes some headsets use eye tracking but the overwhelmingly vast majority of VR games don't. The same goes with HDR and headset force feedback, there just arent any games that use it but once PSVR2 is available on PC I'd expect some clever people to work their magic and hack and mod everything. I have supreme confidence in this.

If you own a quest 3, there is literally no reason to spend the extra £50 🥴
The Q3 resolution is actually higher than the psvr2's and since HDR is not enabled on pc there are literally no benefits over Quest 😬

I was upset at the missing features at first but then I realized all these things:
    - No PCVR games have haptic headset rumble.
    - Vast majority of PCVR games don't support eye tracked foveated rendering (Sony says it still SUPPORTS REGULAR FOVEATED RENDREING).
    - Do people expect devs are gonna waste $$ to patch the 1,000s of PCVR games to support controller haptics and adaptive trigger features for the dozens of PC PSVR2 users when they don't even bother adding trigger support or haptic feedback for Dualsense (over 30 million controllers sold) in 90% of flat PC games? (and btw haptic feedback on Dualsense still requires USB cable to work on PC! Bluetooth adaptive trigger support is still new and less than 10 games support it on PC)
    - Controllers still have regular rumble support
    - No HDR is the only only issue here in my opinion. I'm not sure if it's the adapter's limitation or if it can be added unofficially later on.
So I will buy it for my RTX 3070 PC. It looks like it'll be an upgrade over my Quest 1 so I have nothing to lose, except $60.

@@meircyn12 Haptics is a soft detailed vibration made from audio from the game pumped into the controller. Think of loud bass noises in the game when you shoot a weapon except they're transformed into vibrations you feel in your hand. It's the feeling of phone vibration, Nintendo Switch uses it as well. Standard rumble is the same big vibration rumble motor you had in PS1- PS4 era that doesn't use sound for it's source, this type of rumble is less precise and detailed than what Haptics offer. Now when you play PSVR2 on PC, the game will send the "basic rumble" signal programed from the game and the haptic controller will vibrate. But it will not feel as good because it will use the small haptic vibration motors and the signal was designed for a big rumble motor. so it's a compromise. It's the same as Dualsense on PC, games that are not programmed for haptic support will just send a basic rumble signal and the vibrations feel tiny and weak. Still better than nothing.

The missing features for PC steam VR is I believe based upon there is no software available that can take advantage of the big features of the PS VR2. I am not surprised. I knew that the PS VR2 will at best function as a generic PC VR headset. Who is this for? If PS VR 2 is your only headset and you got a capable PC this is still good news. What is still being offered is the high resolution OLED displays at a price no other PC VR headset can match. Otherwise, you're stuck with getting an LCD based PC VR device. If you already own a Quest 2/3 or other PC VR headset then this might not be for you. Update: Forgot to mention the fact that the PS VR 2 on PC will need a 1.4 display cable which means 'no compression' on image quality, giving you the best image available. You won't have to worry about image quality unlike other headsets that use other methods to connect to PC. Thus, operating as a direct native connected VR device.

Why no HDR? That makes no sense Linux and Windows BOTH support it.. Also is the crappy Sony PlayStation VR2 app Windows ONLY?
The list of what will not work:
Eye tracking, HDR, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback are not available when playing on PC... I'm just repeating this to have a checklist for the future.

Great move from Sony. I hear people moaning about eye tracking, haptics etc not part of the plan but that's obvious as PC VR games will need patches to support this...same with HDR. I don't recall any PCVR games having HDR?
This is a great move. I love VR but after PSVR1 and Quest two I still struggle with motion issues and avoided PSVR 2 but now I may get one as PC VR opens a huge door...and games like Half Life Alyx are sublime.

Even HDR is not supported? That is weird...HDR is an inputsignal at first and nothing new at all on PC. Why this is not working on PC? You can even force in Windows HDR in automode on non compatible games, if you got an HDR-ready Device.
Well, it is nice that you can use the VR2 as Steamheadset now...but this will not sell any additional VR2 units in my opinion. Without HDR, Eyetracking Foveation, adaptive triggers and feedback...this is nothing more than a generic last gen Headset - for 650€ now including the adapter.
Quest 3 way better choice for that money. Again Sony does the bare minimum. Hard to get excited. It is fun for sure to check it out on PC - but again, only good for those, who already own the VR2.

Since games at the Steam store were made for PCs, they were not made to use technologies that are built into PSVR2, maybe after this adapter comes out developers will design a patch or make games specifically for people who will use a PSVR2. I like my PSVR2 very much, but I was looking at Quest 3, and it looks very nice, but even now a much older HP Reverb G2 has slightly better resolution than Quest 3. I hope HP will make a Reverb G3 with OLED pancake lenses and 120 FOV or greater, even with the same pixel resolution as the G2 this would be a better headset than what I mentioned here, and I would buy it right away.

No haptics, no foveated rendering, the old Fresnels, no combination USB-C/display port support? What is going to make people want to buy PSVR2 headset when there are Quest and Pico, and others. The only positive outcome is for PS5 owners, allowing them to play PCVR, for everyone else there is ZERO incentive to get PSVR2 thus no effect on Sony's profits. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

So pcvr2 could've become a consumer priced headset with eyetracking for foveated rendering to bring down the cost of PC needed to comfortably run. And they go. No we don't Wana do it.

Oof, no eye tracking? That could have made the PSVR2 the cheapest PCVR HMD with OLED panels and eye tracking.
I guess it's still a somewhat good choice if you *really* want OLED panels, but I think I'd stick with the Quest 3 instead.

Thanks for the heads up mate. As an OLED fanboy (I still have both Rift cv1 and Vive Pro1) I'm looking forward to the psvr2 PC version, mainly for its higher resolution OLED screens.
My main concern is how well it will interface with SteamVR and OpenXR. Sony will probably have its own interface to work with SteamVR, similar to WMR and Pimax, which also need to run there own runtimes, esp. with OpenXR.
My other concern is the lack of ps5 features coming over from the ps5-only version, esp. eye tracking. I don't understand why Sony cannot at least bring over eye tracking? Might be to save paying Tobi an additional licensing fee or something, who knows?
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how well the psvr2 headset works with PCVR. I'll def be waiting for independant user reviews before buying one. Thanks again mate and cheers.

There is quite a bit of negativity on faceache about this but…you can play your psvr2 on pc, it doesn’t have the same feature set as the ps5 but it’s not as if they are taking those features away from the ps5. If you have a pc that can work with it then it’s a value add. They are literally not taking anything away. 50 quid plus a £5 cable not a bad deal.

It might not be bad for those that already own one with their PS5, but what about those that were considering picking it up that don't have one? If I was going to pay for one, I want all the features to work. Of course the tech is still there, but if it's hamstringed then it might as well not be. Lower the cost considerably if that's the case.

The price is too high still for the psvr2 headset. If anything it will allow those who already own the psvr2 to jump into PC gaming. The headset is may be good enough, but the software support is definitely lacking still. People have sold off their headsets and pcvr isn't probably going to entice them if they have to buy a gaming PC for it. I predict the psvr2 is just psvr1 all over again. Quest3 is the better headset.

The only thing I can think of is they chose display port adaptor because because the 4 lines are garunteed usually where as dp1. 4 USB c can be hit or miss... You mayor may not support it... You may or may not have 4 data lines and you may or may not have power distribution at the same time

Firstly this should have been supported at launch. I guarantee it would have been pretty much sold out. Secondly how can Sony a multi billion dollar corporation not support their own hardware features on the PC platform? The eye tracking and the haptic feedback is the strengths of this device and you're not going to have it for PC players? What a joke everyone is laughing at how pathetic the PlayStation brand has become. And the entire console market while we're at it.

Here’s why PSVR2 will be better as a PCVR option, because none of the features Sony mentioned that are omitted from PSVR2 with PCVR are present anywhere else… Sony had to cut back features based on what PC can do, and since PC is not PS5 it can’t implement features not even present in other PCVR headsets

Really happy to see this finally come to fruition, been waiting for a while for either third parties to crack the product for PC use or rather now seeing native support, even better.
There are obviously a lot of downsides which is unfortunate, I don't know why specifically HDR and Eye tracking wouldn't be working, seems like an artificial limitation to me considering you are purchasing an adapter that's suppose to hold converters and algorithms inside to make the product compatible for PC, it feels like a rushed hack put together, or maybe they just couldn't for whatever reason have it work with Windows or requires the game developers end of support for it. Either way, I hope that they'll develop for these upsets and get the adapter updated so that these features are null and void.
Edit: Another good way to support the product if Sony decides to ditch it after launch is to release the source code, and allow people to push in updates or develop their own solutions.
