      Only thing i can think of is Oled screen and Uncompressed images. Also some people hate Meta to death so it might be a good option for those people XD

      The reason is that all those functions are game side. They can't be added by drivers. And because no game uses these functions Sony warns that they don't work. If they didn't at best it be dishonest, at worst false advertising.

    • @Tepnox
      @Tepnox 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Quite weird indeed. At first I thought that it could be a bandwith issue with display port but remember the whole PSVR2 thing works via USB on the PS5 (I don't know if compression is at place or they use a special protocol for data transfer there). The missing eye-tracking is a lack of software implementation it seems - so not enough effort went into that. Shame. Quite happy with my Quest 3 at the moment. I really can't think of going back from pancake lenses to fresnel lenses. But missing those important features the PSVR2 is just a mediocre headset for PCVR.

    the loss of eye tracking is such a big hit in the face with this headset. i mean, the price of vr2 is still good, but it fells like you lose 250 bucks worth of features if you only use it on pc

      Except this is NOT targeted for those kinds of people. This is targeted for people who are both interested in PS5 VR gaming AND PCVR gaming. Now with this adapter a person can so both, while with PCVR HMDs you can only play PCVR games. I own a PS5 and a gaming PC and now the PSVR2 is the clear choice for VR headset, since I can play both PS5VR games and PCVR games. It's very simple, it's not that complicated.

      I think their argument is less about who it is targeted at and more about why remove specific pre-existing features when there is still plenty of use for them. The tech is already there why hamstring the device for potential customers.

    I’ll get the adapter as I already own the PSVR2 and a ps5.
    I believe that the reason they’re not doing the support for IT tracking foveated rendering and all of the haptics is because Sony opens those features to developers on the PS5. It’s up to the developer to utilize the haptics and the foveated rendering.
    The support Sony would have to provide to teach the developers of those games in the steam library would be a massive time investment. Developers have already had a hard time getting used to the features of the PS VR2. This is the reason why certain games have received bad reviews and then get better reviews when they utilize the features of the PSVR2.
    I would imagine Sony doesn’t want the blowback on them for the huge steam library that won’t be set up to use their haptics and foveated rendering.
    I would also imagine that when Sony sees how well received the VR headset is for the PC base they will begin to allow those features on PCVR via patch.
    I could also be very wrong and just puffing on Hopium.

    That really sucks but I'm still quite interested in this headset if it really has uncompressed visuals. I am a 7 year pcvr gamer that still uses the Rift simply because it's the only affordable OLED pcvr headset(LCD just doesn't do it for me). I would love to get my hands on the Bigscreen Beyond but I could buy three psvr2's for the price of one Bigscreen Beyond since I don't already have lighthouses.
    Also I could see modders probably hacking features like face tracking to work in the future.

    • @willwastaken
      @willwastaken 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm the same as you. I've had like 10 headsets now (Rift, Vive, Vive Pro, Quest 2, Pico 4, Reverb G2, Pimax, and more) and I cannot understand how all these clowns can tolerate LCD and compression. The amount of compression on USB headsets is actually disgusting, it makes everything unplayable. And the LCD displays make everything bleak and non-immersive. The Quest 2 is unusable.
      I used my Rift from 2017 until 2022, but in 2022 I got a Vive Pro 1 and modded it with GearVR lenses and a custom headstrap+headphone combo. The VP1 is the only headset that beats my Rift, simply because of the higher resolution and better lenses without any other drawbacks.
      I'm reaching a point where I'd like higher resolution, non-pentile displays, so I'm considering the Bigscreen Beyond. People often mention the glare and poor sweet spot of the Beyond, but my modded Vive Pro already suffers from both of those slightly (to be expected with a DIY 3D-printed lens mod), although it seems to be worse on the Beyond.

    • @Vazz
      @Vazz 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@willwastaken Yeah, I tried the Vive Pro 1 in an arcade and it looked great. Wish I could have afforded it at the time when they still sold it new.
      The first LCD hmd I bought was the Lenovo Explorer because it was cheap and I was curious about the higher resolution at the time. Boy was it awful. The colors were way less vibrant, you couldn't see details in dark areas anymore, the screen was dimmer, and it just felt more flat and less vr. The sweet spot was awful and don't get me started on the controllers and tracking.
      The next one I got was the Samsung Odysee+ because it had oled and same resolution as the vive pro 1. The visuals looked great but it still had those WMR hmd issues like tiny sweet spot and awful tracking/controllers, plus it was the most uncomfortable headset I've used.
      Then the Quest 1 came out and it actually had OLED and higher resolution than the Rift but because it didn't use a hdmi or displayport cable, the compression when playing pcvr stuff basically makes it look like an LCD screen. You'd think Meta would fix that but here we are years later with no uncompressed cable in sight for all their new Quests.

    • @willwastaken
      @willwastaken 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Vazz Yeah it's honestly hopeless at this point, I doubt we'll see any more innovation for a long time. You can still buy the VP1 for around $450 in some countries, and if you get a used Vive kit on eBay you'll have 2 base stations and controllers which is all you need.
      I hated modding my VP1, felt like I was gonna break it, but I'm so glad I did it. It has easily replaced my Rift, and is quite a lot better in every regard except comfort and weight.

    What is the point? Ride the hype and try to sell some more headsets early.
    The best feature is the display. The OLED display makes nighttime racing and driving (or doing other dark games) a much better experience. The pentile diamond subpixel layout removes the aliasing and need for anti-aliasing or supersampling, where normal displays with a normal grid would need it as they prefer only perfectly horizontal or vertical lines (which never happens in games!!!).
    After that, Sony can work to get the extra features working over time with driver/firmware updates, or maybe iVry or DSX can enable them down the road.

    3) I hope that openXR geniuses can get it working properly with the features intact.
    Otherwise, what a massive miss, Sony. Ugh.
    It would have made so much sense to properly support all features on PC. That way you can port your Sony PlayStation VR exclusives to PC fully intact (like synapse) and also give PC developers practise with DFR and eye tracking to create new experiences that can be easily ported back to PS5 players. The rising tide lifting all boats. If the PSVR2 is nerfed on PC you dont get any of that.

The eye tracking can be very impressive to use and with the dynamic foveated rendering it really reduces the requirements of the system to provide great looking VR. We want all the features to work, so I hope this can be done.

    Actually really excited for this. I'm curious to see what kind of video compression it uses over the cable. Since it says it needs DisplayPort 1.4 and goes over USB-C it should give us around 25.92Gbps data rate compared to the 2.1 Gbps the Quest 3 hits on average when connected with USB.
    I was really disappointed when I tried to move from my Rift S to a Quest 3 (ended up returning) and noticed how everything had what looked like compression artifacting even when using a cable. I wasn't on a low end machine or even using the wireless connection either. For me physical connection will always be superior because of the reduced latency and cleaner picture. The PSVR2 OLED screens also seem like they will be pretty great (unless they suffer from smearing). Only real concern of mine is comfort as the Rift S with some mods (cotton facepad cover + counterweights) is still the most comfortable headset I've ever used.

    What a fantastic video. THANK YOU! 🥇 The only upside of this HMD will be a minus £1000 proper PCVR headset, that doesn't require external lighthouses.
    Loved how you confirmed that no PS5 was needed. As so any of us dont own one, nor ever would buy one. As we have VR PC rigs.
    *And yes. 100% agree with every word.*
    Why they left eye tracking out, especially as it has old-style fresnel lenses is a mystery. Harpic and HDR as well.. just why?? 🤔 Brill video. Looking forward to your launch review.

    I own a PS5, PS VR2, and a high-end PC. I was excited about the idea of using my PS VR2 on PC with the features it supports, but they have decided to provide a half-baked solution for PC that doesn't take advantage of any of the features that PS VR2 has to offer. My PS VR2 collects dust because the Quest 3 is a better product and offers a better overall experience, so I use that instead and rarely have a reason to play PS VR2. The only time I purchase a VR game on PS5 is when they offer PS VR2 adapter trigger support, so not having that on PC makes it completely pointless.
    Just for reference, if you connect a PS5 controller to the PC you get adaptive trigger support for games that support it on console (E.G., Rainbow Six Siege). If you can do it with the PS5 controller without additional software Sony should be able to get the PS VR2 adaptive trigger support working on PC.

And let's be honest, even many PSVR2 games on the PS5 don't support features like eye-tracking or the special rumble feedback either.

    The cable isn't included probably to bring the adapter down to the price of £50. There is a lot of variation on desktop and laptop configurations. Consider the following...
    - computer with display port output only
    - computer with mini display port output only
    - computer with type-C display pass-through only
    - computer with HDMI only
    Which cable should they bundle?
    We can buy the cable that converts from their display output type into the display port input or buy a standard display cable same at both sides for a couple of pounds.
    If we want to, we might be able to exceed the quality of the cable that might have been bundled.
    If the audience is already a tech enthusiast PC gamer, they will more than likely already have a spare anyway.
    The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Display Passthrough specification is 1.4 alternative mode, which is why the Display Port cable must be a minimum of 1.4. You can use a higher rated 2.1 cable and will be backwards compatible.

    that aside, if you want to jump in pcvr, a cv1 is cheap asf and good enough to start. why spend 500 or more and you may not even like vr, or have enough space, or a pc good enough to do it. and if you are already into pcvr you may already have a better headset for it, i have an index and despite my vr2 looking better and being more comfortable. its not a huge jump imo. however since they will be dropping this ill get the adaptor and just used my vr2 on both. while i dont mind cord, i use 4 base stations for index and occulus. so i have 5 usb ports or more being use at one time if im using my sim wheel. as well as stuff ran everywhere, while i prefer the headset to being wired in all that other stuff is annoying at times.
