A fun fact about Sonic Colors DS' Special stage: If you knock balls for your next run off, they won't be there when you need them. It's a fun and interesting dynamic about Colors DS Special Stages that make them great to burn through.
I didn’t learn that until the 6th or 7th Special Stage (which are their own stories) and while they were still easy, it was a bit interesting realizing I’d just jeopardized a good run.
Blue Spheres is probably my favourite, but I understand why you'd grow tired of it in Mania. It's best enjoyed as something you get an Emerald for. It loses its luster as a basic bonus stage IMO.
I don't like sonic manias special stages it's too hard and encore mode reverses the special stage order and I hate starting the first special stage with a difficulty hard
you mean sonic 2,the sonic 2 special stages take practice to be good at and don't bother they only add flowers to the background and if Eggman taunts you its ok cause he is missing one as well
I played Sonic CD on MegaCD and on PS2 and it was great, but frame-rate was inconsistent, but it was changed on Sonic CD Mobile Version, I give it 9/10.
"This is the best special stage on the 32x" It's the only special stage on the 32x. "This is the best special stage on the Sega CD" It's the only special stage on the Sega CD too. At least you're technically right XD
Honestly, I’d love to see a 2 player race mod for sonic mania special stages. That would be a cool throwback to how sonic heroes 2 player mode did for their special races.
Sonic 1s speed up and slow down buttons have a good reason to them, speeding up makes it less likely to fall into a pit and slow down makes it much easier to chip away to get the emeralds. Plus you can get continues which are worth 3 lives for 50 rings iirc so regardless if your are trying to clear it you should go for the rings first.
I wish more bonus levels took inspiration to everything Knuckles Chaotix did with them. Time is creative as you dont get kicked out for failing, but for not getting dissappearing rings.
Mania’s special stages are well designed for sure but the fact that they’re actually fun and I look forward to playing them really goes to show how amazing of a game Sonic Mani truly is.
i actually really enjoyed lost world's special stages, whenever i was outside or at home i wouldve enjoyed controlling it. obviously it wasnt very fun when you were playing in a car
2:52 it could have been worse they were thinking about adding a tile that kills you or tiles that warp you to certain Zones (could be bad if you hit one that sends you back a Zone)
I’m not gonna discuss every point but there’s three I wanted to talk about so here we go. 1. I haven’t really played the Lost World stages and in the normal context of playing a 3DS game it is awkward. However if I have a swivel chair I think I would actually have some fun with them. I like weird motion controlled things. 2. Sonic CD’s would probably be close the bottom for me. I’m talking like bottom five. Even after beating them all I’ve never felt confident in how the control or feel. Remake or not. I find them absolutely dreadful and find searching for the generators to be way more satisfying. 3. Mania does have the best. Such fun stages to zip through. Fun video! I enjoying seeing opinions on Sonic things because opinions can vary so drastically unlike with a lot of other franchises.
Nah, you aren't. For all of the problems that they have, I actually really enjoy the Special Stages more than most. I still wouldn't say that it's in the top tier of Stages by a long shot, but there's something about it that I always found so... honestly, I don't know how to describe it. It's definitely *loads* better than the one from _Sonic 4: Episode 1._
I was pleasantly surprised to see Rush up there! I recently tried to play the Sonic Advance special stages, and I thought I was a complete idiot or something, trying to grab the rings. Will try again with the trick manouvre!
My favorite touch is the Sonic 3D Blast PC special stages being absolutely littered with coins to the point of being impossible to lose because the developers knew that it was impossible to control
I've always had a lot of troubles with Advance 2's special stages, maybe it was because of the ordeal that was required to enter them, but the controls just felt weird to me
I can’t believe this man forgot about gameland from Sonic Colors on the wii. I agree with this list, but I feel like the whole sonic simulator thing would’ve taken top spot.
Fun Fact! Did you know? You don't have to press any buttons for the first 2 or 3 special stages for Sonic 3D blast on PC. You will always get enough rings to pass. I don't know how they did it but the special stages are somehow even easier then the Mega Drive version.
I noticed that the footage from the Sonic 1 GG special stages is from the remake, where the way you obtain the Emeralds is switched up a bit. In the original, the emeralds are hidden throughout the levels and the special stages are more bonus stages.
My personal favorite is blue sphere. The controls are far more precise. The level of challenge always seems fair. You get a better chance to retrace your steps. No time limit. I guess I'm a little biased because I spent hours and hours getting good at blue sphere.
to people struggling with sonic heroes special stages here is a tip always use power formation, you have a bigger hitbox to get the energy spheres and better way to control yourself
So do the special stages in Sonic Lost World Deadly Six Bonus Edition on the Wii U not count? I was just curious to see where they'd rank. Anyways I've subscribed.
I absolutely love the genesis version of the Sonic 3D blast special stage, its Sonic 2's special stage but 5 times better, mostly because you have more reaction time and you can take small breaks when you hit one of the walls
"show my bias for rush adventure" There is no bias here. The waveboarding gameplay is just the halfpipe except without the turns that blind you and more exciting, so turning it into a race is awesome. I also love rush adventure lol.
Personally I'd put it at number 1 and boot mania out of the top 10 completely, I honestly don't like how Mania handles special stages and would have preferred more new blue sphere stages.
@@AkariEnderwolf Mania special stages are kind of difficult tbh. On the other hand the most amount of Chaos Emeralds I've ever collected it's 4 so it might just be me

I am pretty positive the Sonic Colors Special Stage OST is probably one of my favorite pieces of music to ever come from Sonic Franchise. Like, really up there. It's an amazing tune. Which is crazy to think it exists in the same game as Planet Wisp, Aquarium Park and that amazing 1st Boss Fight theme (if only it didn't end in 4 seconds because boss fights are super easy) and it STILL MANAGES TO STAND OUT. It is just THAT good. I don't remember particularly enjoying the special stage itself... probably because I came from Rush Adventure to Colors and for me, Rush Adventure is the GOAT, but I distinctively remember always wanting to listen to this piece.
4:37 I played through that tunnel in Mario & Sonic 2010 Winter Games on the Wii in my Bobsled and going that fast was fun and scary because if you hit anything you'd lose all your speed
Josh Nunya Yes, I also played there in DS Download Play in my DSi XL as my brother had the game card and still to this day(yes you also lose your speed when hitting a wall if your wondering)
I'd put Sonic Lost World 3DS somewhere between 10 and 13. It actually does a really good job at showing off the 3DS's gyroscope, and there's a bit of challenge in the later stages. Plus, Sonic doesn't accelerate automatically, so steering is really easy. But it's the easier difficulty that kinda places it lower for me. Not the easiest, but it's still a bit too easy. But hey, at least in the 3DS, you have to earn the Emeralds, unlike the WiiU version.
Never forget Sonic Mania I have the game though it is just like Sonic CD special stages there is two types of special stages that was so crazy I barely got any Chaos Emeralds
By far the best Sonic special stages are the ones in the Saturn version of Sonic 3D. They're super underrated because nobody has played them. But gameplay wise it's some of the best Sonic gameplay ever and those stages are so much more interesting than any other special stage levels. You're actually running uphill and downhill and jumping here and there and it's everything that you want from Sonic gameplay. Even the Mania special stages feel flat compared to that.
Ya Know Billehbawb I used to feel pain.. in the sonic series i felt like i was dying in massive pain. but lucky me was able to get through all sonic special stages and yea thats the story of my life.
Rush and Heroes really do have, IMO, the best special stages. I like Blue Sphere, and Mania's really are just so much fun. Otherwise it's not a bad ranking.
I agree that Sonic 1 Special Stages (MD) are difficult, yet I've managed to get all six Chaos Emeralds over time. I'd put this in at no. 2. The half-pipe Special Stages of Sonic 2 (MD) are the easiest to get through, although Stages 5, 6 and 7 are a bit trickier with getting enough rings. I've managed to get all seven emeralds nevertheless. It just takes practice and a good knack I've gained over the years. Aside from this, Sonic 2 Mega Drive Special Stages are top of the heap with me at no. 1. The Sphere Stages with Sonic 3 plus Sonic & Knuckles (add Sonic Mania) are by far some of the worst ever created. For Master System, Sonic 1 Special Stages share top spot with Sonic 2's MD half-pipes, while Sonic Chaos Special Stages are as bad as the Sphere ones. I could only complete Sonic Chaos with Tails, as he doesn't get them.
those rush adventure special stages are actually really fun when you get the hang of the controls, like shit these special stages are really difficult but luckily for me i love the wave cyclone gameplay also the sonic rush special stages are my favorite overall, it's the best set of halfpipe stages in my opinion
The Sonic Advance trilogy has the worst Special Stages in the entire franchise, mainly because they have ridiculous methods of accessing them. Advance 1's Special Stages are the least bad to access, but suffer from terrible gameplay, Advance 2's Special Stages have the least bad gameplay, but have a painstaking way of accessing them and require you to collect all seven Emeralds as every character to unlock Amy Rose, and Advance 3's Special Stages have the worst gameplay and the worst method of accessing them.
I agree that sonic mania is #1 on the list it really builds up the suspense when you start going max speed wich makes you worried like "should I try to slow down?" Or it can really give you hype when at max speed which feels like "I'm gonna get that chaos emerald no matter what!". Thnx for putting SONIC mania number one on your list.😉😉😉

Rush and Heroes really do have, IMO, the best special stages. I like Blue Sphere, and Mania's really are just so much fun. Otherwise it's not a bad ranking.
In Mania, the sudden speedup during Blue Sphere is super disorienting and easily places that below the original.
Cooooool
Only one thing I would have put blue spheres higher
I could only complete Sonic Chaos with Tails, as he doesn't get them.
those rush adventure special stages are actually really fun when you get the hang of the controls, like shit these special stages are really difficult but luckily for me i love the wave cyclone gameplay
also the sonic rush special stages are my favorite overall, it's the best set of halfpipe stages in my opinion
The Sonic Advance trilogy has the worst Special Stages in the entire franchise, mainly because they have ridiculous methods of accessing them. Advance 1's Special Stages are the least bad to access, but suffer from terrible gameplay, Advance 2's Special Stages have the least bad gameplay, but have a painstaking way of accessing them and require you to collect all seven Emeralds as every character to unlock Amy Rose, and Advance 3's Special Stages have the worst gameplay and the worst method of accessing them.
thanks for appreciating the sonic colors special stages
Knuckles chaotix special stage looks like run on cool math games!
The music at the end is a Remix of Ghost Town(Sonic Forces) made by Turret 3471 for those who are wondering(which is my opinion is pretty lit).
Glad to know other people realize the true genius of the Sonic Rush games
