The front fender is a lot nicer. I actually wondered why your bike looked better than the others I had seen. It really changes the overall looks. The other mods are also nice. Good job!
I bought the KLX 250 back in November of 05, its currently at 18,500 miles. I got the first one the dealership got in, in fact, I ordered it a month before they even got one. Did a few of the same mods, Utah skid plate, 13-45 from the stock 14-42 gears, airbox mod, jetting, and full Muzzy pipe. I got rid of the stock turns early on, but found that I wanted to be seen more in traffic, so long story short, I now have double turn signals on the bike. I also got rid of the low hanging plate holder for one off Rocky Mt. The first thing I actually did was mount the Pelican 1200 on the rack, best mod ever! The bike has been flawless for all these years, I will never get rid of mine. I also have 2 of the original large brochures from the dealer when I bought the bike. Love the Trackmaster tires, I have run the Kenda K270 and the Dunlop 606 a few times, but my money will go to the 760 tires from now on.
Maybe we’ll cross paths sometime, I have a camp in pottersdale & my brother has 1 in Benezette. I love the klx too! You’re in a great area for dual sports! Thanks for watching!
I got a pair of protaper high rise bars and my clutch cable was more than a few inches short so i ended up going to a local cable place in my town. if you end up going to a cable place like i did i recommend writing down the size the nuts have to be on each end so they put the right size on and not bigger.
Wow, all that flare costs more than the bike price, but whatever makes you happy. I bought one yesterday and love it! Trying to research some luggage options. Ordered the Giant Loop Zigzag handlebar pouch.
Wow! KC that's the only word that came to mind, man you nailed it that even looks way better than it's counter part KLX300r off road. Not that Kawi needs any help selling these things but I think you sold a few for them, in fact in my neck of the woods most every dealer is (probably due to price) sold out! I would make one other mod that would make that thing the envy of a lot of bikers, E-bay sells an after market light that looks a lot like the KTM's, I put one on an '03 KLX300r I fixed up and it looked killer. I think many owners will pay you the greatest compliment including myself and emulate (copy cat ) your mods, that's a head turner for sure!
Cool mods I like 'em. I would suggest some luggage later to carry stuff from perhaps Kriega or Nelson Rigg. I have a Yamaha XT250 dual sport and thinking of getting this bike in future. A factor is the KLX has a higher seat height for us shorter riders under five nine. Happy riding.
Thanks for comment. Since this vid I installed a moose rear rack. I have a set of Nelson Rigg soft saddle bags that I swap out between bikes. Had an XT few years back , loved it , light, nimble & simple!
I chose Klx for suspension. The stock suspension on the klx is better than my upgraded suspension on my 250L I had. They say the 300L suspension is only very slightly better than the 250L. Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Nice job with your bike ! I've owned many bikes back when I was younger but never a Kawasaki but I like these dual purpose bikes and this is what I would try next , thanks .
I put on the 13T on my 2021 KLX300 and loved the added lower end and still felt it had good top end on the hwy. I then added the 42T as well and didn’t like how it effected the top end. Felt like I was wrapping it out just to get to 65mph so I put the 40T back on. Have you tried the 42T yet?
I’ve been running 13/43 for about 100mi. I’m sticking with that. If I know I’m going to be doing something with long stretch’s of high rpm I’ll throw the 14 back on the front. I very rarely ever cruise over 60mph when I ride. Thanks for watching!

I don't like the stock front fender that comes on the dual sport either and was about to replace mine. Any reason you went with the KX 450 instead of just getting the klx300r version? Yours looks great, I'm just wondering since I was just about to pull the trigger on the 300r fender assuming that's what you did (until I rewatched this vid).
I have a deposit down on a 22, KLX 300 and on a Husqvarna 350 FE, the Husky is slated to come in first but I wonder is the price savings and mod availability is with waiting for the Kawi.
I have a ‘21 KTM 350exc-f also. It was easy to mod it the way I wanted, there are rear racks available for the husky & ktm too. The 350 is just as good as the kawi on the street as long as you balance the tires. 350 is a shit ton better off road.
Hey KC...I installed the fender eliminator by TST Industries with the fixed, standard license plate mount. I noticed your license plate mount is angled and pretty far away from the exhaust. How did you know to set it up like that? My license plate is like three inches from the exhaust and the exhaust gases are hitting it... making a noise. I wish I had ordered the angled license plate mount.
I like some of the black-out you did on the forks, side panels and swing-arm. Lots of silver and white otherwise. Did you buy the Kawasaki decals someplace that you put on the swing-arm, or make them up yourself? If someone sells them, who would that be? Where the black added to the side panels in a kit, or did you make those up yourself? Thanks.
The lower fork guard decals & Kawasaki on swing arm are from rockymountainatvmc.com, all of the blacked out areas are just cut out by hand from a large piece of wrap vinyl from sign shop.
Looks nice, especially the vinyl additions, its the small things that give it that over all finish. Speaking of the small things, what did you use to cover the screws when you removed the little zipper bag behind the seat?
Where did you buy your decal/graphic package for the swing arm, front fork extension, back swing arm? Looks really good. Have the same bike and looking to bring a fresh look to it.
I drilled new holes, it’s tough though, I always think I drill the hole dead on, it always ends up being off & then the switches are tilted!! I ground tits off 1 time, but no matter what I tried wrapping around bars before clamping switches back on never seemed to to keep switch pod from spinning. Gorilla tap seemed to do the best for me.
It’s a Tusk lithium #TLFP-7L from rockymountainatvmc.com . They hold up awesome, this battery was completely drained twice in my KTM. Sat on shelf for a year, charged it quick, been working good for the last month in the KLX. This battery is 3years old.
IMS wide pegs. The only reason I steered away from 300 L, is the suspension is super soft, I didn’t want to have dump $800-$1000 into it right away, I’m 210lbs. & I’ve been riding the klx hard for almost 2 years, I feel no need to upgrade the suspension. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comment!
Maierusa.com 2006 klx300r MX rear fender, you have to trim a little on both sides where the fender meets the number plate, but it lays on nicely . I drilled 2 holes on top to mount it to existing tool kit mount brackets. Thanks for watching!
@@luizz_k I didn’t, I knew the old 300 fender would lay right on since the sub on the ‘07 is basically the same as the 2021, just minor tab trim on front portion. I wanted it to look as factory as possible, I think a fella overseas has a vid posted of a kx250f fender installed on the rear.
I cut off my rear fender mess last night on my 2022 300, but I like what you ended up with better. Currently pondering the best exhaust solution, mostly for power, low noise and spark arrester so will be interested in what you came or come up with? Having come off a WR450F I'm kinda missing the throttle a bit, specially lifting the wheel over a down trees but still love the bike. The 450 was like riding a saw horse with a V8 engine, but worked well in my younger years.
I have the Delkevic 14” oval , with quiet core insert, nice tone , but not too loud. I don’t necessarily like the look of it, but it was the only thing available at the time. I have used FMF Q4 in the past, with a quiet core. They look good. Have nice tone & not crazy loud when cruising. The 13 tooth front sprocket will help with getting front wheel up. You’ll lose about 5-7mph on top speed.
It looks great. Nice job. I'm really interested to find out how much low end torque you will gain with the sprocket changes. All I want is a 400, 450, or 500 dual sport with updated technology and decent service intervals. I think most people want the same thing, but the manufacturers just don't seem to hear us. Before anyone mentions the CRF450L or KTM, I have no interest in a $10K bike with 600 mile oil change intervals. I don't want a racing bike. The XR400 and DRZ400 are great bikes too, but I would like something that's a bit more updated. Actually, the XR400 was one of the best bikes I ever owned, but I don't really want to deal with a carb or a kick start anymore. Also, I already have two carbureted bikes so I'm ready for something else. I know a 300 doesn't have the torque of a 400, but since it's all we can get, I'm hoping that your gearing changes bump it up a bit without sacrificing too much top end. If it's acceptable, I may spring for the KLX300. Let us know how it feels.
Thank you! I have a short vid up that goes over my gearing change & exhaust upgrade. Very noticeable change in torque across the board. It is a great bike ! Thanks for watching!
Loved my 250L for 6yrs. Even with the race tech suspension up grade on the CRF, kawi suspension is much better. Kawi is less weight, feels much slimmer, 2 radiators instead of 1. Kawi has more power! That being said I never had a single problem with my CRF250L & the fuel gauge on Crf is nice too.
Just got my KLX 300 also 👍 can you give me a link to the black decals you have on the side panels and near the number plate? I looked around a bit but can’t find any that are solid black like yours..
I picked up a piece of automotive wrap vinyl from sign shop, stuck rough cut pieces on bike , then trimmed to fit once it was stuck on. Thanks for watching!!
@@kcoutside7143 oooh 😮 thank you !!!🙏 I’ll try going that route as well. Fantastic video btw. Love the klx300 so far. Can’t wait to get the Break in over with and an oil changed over to synthetic so I can really tach it out and see what she’s got. Safe ride friend
Any benefits or pros and cons of getting a 300R and making it street legal if you live in a state where it is easy to convert? Enjoy your videos thx! Small differences between them but I think the suspension may be a bit better IDK.
Holes will line up without drilling. I did put a 1/16” thick washer on top of the fender on the 2 rearward holes, to cant the lower rear portion of the new fender away from frame down tube. To prevent rubbing.
@@kcoutside7143 Hmm. I wonder what the difference is with the fender I got. The holes do line up, but the front of the fender hits the bottom of the headlight assembly. There's like a half inch gap that would need to be filled unless I shift it forward, making the holes off by a long shot.
@@pastorbuckhall I did some more research, the part # from 2016 to 2021 is the same for the KX front fender from polisport, I even unbolted mine to check, it bolts up with no hole modifications. Not sure what’s up.
Do you have a video of installing the polisport taillight kit? I’m looking to buy this just wondering how are you attached it and if you modified it at all..
I’ll be putting a moose rack on in a day or two. I’ll post a quick vid with fender off to show how I mounted it. I drilled 2 holes through subframe to match up with polisport holes, put .5” bushings between light & subframe & bolted it up.
On Rocky Mountain ATV now doing some shopping. Trying to make my bike look pretty much like yours since I love how yours looks. I couldn’t find the Kawasaki decals for the swing arm and forks though! Could you link those for me? Thanks brother!!
The fork decals were for a 2021 kx250, I trimmed them to fit from Rocky Mountain. The swing arm decals are from there also . Factory Effex. Click graphics & decals , then narrow seearch to white decals.
Question for you, I have caught holy hell putting my bark busters on today!! Basically the aftermarket throttle tube I bought doesn’t work with the POS factory throttle tube housing that came with the Kawasaki. The factory grip was literally formed onto the factory throttle tube, I couldn’t cut it and tear it off so basically I put it to a bench grinder and grinder the rubber off it just so I could put another grip on it and still use the factory throttle tube. Any suggestion on throttle tube and housing? Flipping pain in the a**!!!!! I have a 2020 btw
I went the stock route , ground end of tube off, used a razor blade to scrape old grip off (totally sucked), used angle grinder with light grit disc to get remaining grip off. I’ve never tried an aftermarket tube on any of the newer dual sports I’ve had. They have all been a bitch to remove the grip!
Motion pro makes an OEM throttle tube for Kawasaki and Suzuki. Pop out end cap. Have it on my 300 and worked fine. 01-0094 is the part number. And what year is the kx fender? 2018+
I would stick with the 400, try low seat foam or suspension lowering. You’ll miss the power of the 400. Of course if power is not a concern, then a switch is more appropriate. The 300 is as good as the DRZ, power is the deciding factor .
I really like the Mods to your bike! I ordered a new Polisport front fender fitted for the 2022 K450 x, but it will not fit. Did I get the wrong fender?
Mine is for a 2020 kx, but I checked & part# is same for 2022. It bolted right up for me, but I did have to put some 1/16” washers on the 2 rearward bolts between fender & triple clamp to keep rear of fender from hitting frame down tube at the motor.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. This Polisport fender interferes with mounting bolt by the steering tube area below the light assembly. I noticed the stock fender has a v-grove to clear that angled bolt and nut assembly.
@@bella3007186 I just looked, i actually put a 1/16” washer spacer on every bolt between fender & triple clamp, with an additional washer on rear bolts. That allowed mine to bolt up, sorry I didn’t specify that earlier.
It will bolt right on, But added a 1/16” washer between fender & triple clamp on the 2 rear most bolts , to make it follow tire contour of tire better.
@@Dawgs241 I have all 4 stock washers in, with an extra washer on 2 rear bolts, which kicks front of fender up. The 2 extra washers are just under 1/16”, .056”

I had a 250L for six years & even with the suspension fully upgraded, the Kawi suspension is much better than even the upgraded 250L suspension, plus more adjustable. They say the 300L basically has the same suspension as the 250L had. I didn’t want to buy the Honda & right off the start have to upgrade the suspension. I have ridden the kawi hard of road & I have no intentions of upgrading the suspension, it performs great! I do miss a fuel gauge. Thanks for watching & commenting!
If you didn’t like the bike to start with, then why not shop around a bit more? Just saying. I have the camo version and when I decide I don’t like it anymore, I will probably go KTM or Husky. Fortunately I am very happy with my bike.
I love the bike! I’ve owned all the other options in the class, so I wanted to try this 1 out, i always change my bikes to suit my taste, no matter what make or model, I’ve put more miles on the klx this summer than my DRZ & KTM 350. This is my favorite 1 in its class of al the ones I’ve owned, thanks for watching.
It looks as though it’s discontinued! I actually purchased mine from rockymountainatvmc.com , but it also looks as they don’t have it, I’m & currently running a ricochet brand.
Thanks for the update! I just bought a 2023 KLX300, and have been searching for aftermarket options for various parts of the bike. I keep coming back to the Ricochet. I liked the one you had in this video because of the reduced likelihood of mud and various debris entrapment which I heard is a little bit of an issue with the ricochet. I live in Washington and we tend to get some sloppy riding conditions certain parts of the year. Have you done anything else to your bike since this video
@@kcoutside7143 do you have any videos of you installing the handlebars? I’m thinking about replacing mine to pro tapers.
@@kcoutside7143 I just found those videos. Watching now...
Great video sir. Very nice. In your opinion. Could you rate the CRF250L to your new Kawi please and thank you?
Loved my 250L for 6yrs. Even with the race tech suspension up grade on the CRF, kawi suspension is much better. Kawi is less weight, feels much slimmer, 2 radiators instead of 1. Kawi has more power! That being said I never had a single problem with my CRF250L & the fuel gauge on Crf is nice too.
@@kcoutside7143 sweet...thx for getting back brother. Ride safe.
Have you switched out the rear fender since this video? I am looking at replacing mine because I can't stand the look of it!
Yes , I have a video up with klx 300 rear fender mod, I used maier 2006 klx300 Mx style.
@@kcoutside7143 Nice man! I've been looking at that exact fender for my 2009 250s
Where did you get the 's' in '300s'? I wasn't aware they made a 300s. They make a 230s which is the lowered model.
It’s a habit that carried over from the discontinued KLX250s. I forget to drop the “s” Apologies!

Was wondering if you had a link for the the fork guard decals and swung arm decals looks sharp
Forks I ordered decals for a 2020 kx450 from rockymountainatvmc.com
Swing arm, I measured it & had a sign shop make it.
I don’t think 3/4” skid plates are common or even desirable. I have a couple out in the garage if I get off my rear I’ll measure them.
that skid plate allows a lot of mini rock nailing the engine, just be prepared for that
Yes sticks & rocks, I have alway used ricochet & enduro engineering, this was the only 1 in stock. I won’t ride a bike until it has a plate.
@@kcoutside7143 i got 1/8 abs plastic and molded it to somewhat match the bottom for light-medium trail rides and the swo tech for log hoping
Just got my KLX 300 also 👍 can you give me a link to the black decals you have on the side panels and near the number plate? I looked around a bit but can’t find any that are solid black like yours..

Any benefits or pros and cons of getting a 300R and making it street legal if you live in a state where it is easy to convert? Enjoy your videos thx! Small differences between them but I think the suspension may be a bit better IDK.
I would definitely go the 300R , if you live in a hassle free state, lighter weight & less emission restrictions on motor! Looks better too!
@@kcoutside7143 thx! Keep up the good work
I love the bike, good job

Hey KC, I bought the acerebis kx450 front fender. Did you have to drill new holes? If not, how did you do it?
Holes will line up without drilling. I did put a 1/16” thick washer on top of the fender on the 2 rearward holes, to cant the lower rear portion of the new fender away from frame down tube. To prevent rubbing.
@@kcoutside7143 Hmm. I wonder what the difference is with the fender I got. The holes do line up, but the front of the fender hits the bottom of the headlight assembly. There's like a half inch gap that would need to be filled unless I shift it forward, making the holes off by a long shot.
@@pastorbuckhall I just checked the tag on a spare fender I have, it’s a Polisport KX450F 2016 & up
#8574500001. ‘22-‘23 may be different.
@@kcoutside7143 Thanks. Must be the design changed slightly in 2018 cuz the one I got said from 2018 and up.

Nicest looking green one i seen!
@@CrykeesADVEnduro thanks for the info! Yes, 2018+ on the front fender.

Is this the off road version that was street legalized, or is the the street model that was made more dirt worthy?
This is the street legal model made more dirt worthy.
Nice looking bike great mods 👍🤟
In your opinion is it worth switching to this bike from a drz400 if I'm just wanting something with a lower seat height/lighter weight?
@@kcoutside7143 Used a heat gun and the washers- good to go. Thanks for sharing your mods.

Nice mods! Just curious, did the KX 450 front fender require any modifications to fit?
It will bolt right on, But added a 1/16” washer between fender & triple clamp on the 2 rear most bolts , to make it follow tire contour of tire better.
@@kcoutside7143 so is the 2 rear 1/16th washer thicker than the stock washer, lifting the front down or is it thinner than stock lifting front up?

Just out curiosity, why the Kawi over the Honda?
I had a 250L for six years & even with the suspension fully upgraded, the Kawi suspension is much better than even the upgraded 250L suspension, plus more adjustable. They say the 300L basically has the same suspension as the 250L had. I didn’t want to buy the Honda & right off the start have to upgrade the suspension. I have ridden the kawi hard of road & I have no intentions of upgrading the suspension, it performs great! I do miss a fuel gauge. Thanks for watching & commenting!
