Thank you!! A file I had downloaded from elsewhere had two miniatures on two conjoined bases, and this made separating them into their own minis very easy.
I really appreciate comments like this! I had no idea what I was doing when I first started 3D printing. I had a hard time finding info that was taught in a way I could understand. So now I try to create the videos that I wanted when I first started... And it's such a crazy good feeling to know that my videos help people. 😊
Thank you so much for making this video! I hope it will help many 3d printing enthusiasts with my customizer output meshes, and many other models out there!
I don't understand. I combine, export it to stl and when I bring it back in to follow your tutorial on adding pins, it separates into multiple shells again 😒 Considering how much it crashes, I'm pretty sure Meshmixer hates me. Great guides btw. Very easy to follow!
@@Celldweller455 I'm sorry to hear that you're having a rough time with it. Could you reach out to me through Discord, Facebook, or another platform directly? I can probably help you work through the issue you're seeing.
I see nothing dumb about your question. You can do that in two different ways. #1, hold down shift (or Control, I honestly can't remember 😅) and click on different shells or objects within the scene. Meaning, click on things on screen. #2, bring up the object viewer and select multiple items from the list wall holding down Control.. Or Shift, like I said I can't remember. 🤦♂️
Great vid as I’m just getting started in 3D printing and using mesh mixer. Also excited to see the printing goes ever on for the first time, will deff check out their stuff.
Wow great video! Could you make a video on how you would make a 2 part mold of miniatures using meshmixer? If not thats okay thanks again for the video! New sub and cant wait to see what you do next!
Thanks so much for the feedback and support! Yes I would be happy to make a video like that. It will take some testing, but I'll try to have it out in a bit. Thanks for the request!
@@benjaminnoble9565 Oh no my friend the wheels are already turning and there's nothing you can do to stop it! 😁 It's something I've been interested in for awhile anyway I promise.
Assuming that you want to edit the model you'd then cut it manually. This video has more info about cutting models up. th-cam.com/video/dyUWkZSxsiY/w-d-xo.html
Oh that makes it a bit more tricky. In that case you can cut the model up manually. This video covers how to cut models and add pins for easy alignment. th-cam.com/video/dyUWkZSxsiY/w-d-xo.html
Eh, I really hate Meshmixer now. Few times I used combine on all the items in object browser, but then when I try to split the model with plane cut -> separate shells... it always goes back to giving me 100 objects like before combining.
The issue you're seeing is because you're not using the correct process for your goal. "Combine" allows you to hold multiple objects together, but they are still technically separate parts. This requires a lot less computing power and makes them easy to edit later. "Boolean Union" allows you to permanently attach objects together as one object. Doing this process on multiple objects at once can be a pretty big task on your computer. However, it will accomplish what you're looking to do. This video has a bit more info on how to use Boolean Unions if you'd like to check it out. th-cam.com/video/dyUWkZSxsiY/w-d-xo.html
That model won't print. The printer will try to print the bottom of the curve in his sword but it's hanging out there in mid-air so there's nothing for the print head to print on. That will cause the print head to begin dragging a wad of filament web which will snag on the rest of the part and pop it off of the platform. A 3d printer will print up and out, or up and in, as long as you are starting on the platform, but it cannot print out and down like it would need to in order to print that sword. A simple solution would be to add a support rod from the base of the printer up to the sword, or remove the arm and sword and print them separately, gluing them together after the print is finished.
That's really not what this video is about. I appreciate the feedback and I definitely agree that this model would not print without supports. However, I think you may have misunderstood the goal of this tutorial video. The goal was to explain how to separate, edit, and combine parts of a model. Adding supports to this model and slicing it for printing would be done in a different program altogether.
@@SlicePrintRoleplay Yeah. I understood the goal and found it helpful. I wanted to just point out that if someone was new to 3D printing, they may not understand that you can't print just anything. You have to understand how your printer prints layers from the bottom up, and if you have anything that is hanging out in the air, like his arm and sword, you need to maybe add supports, or slice it off and print it as a separate object on the platform, then join them together afterward.
Not sure that I understand your comment. I show how to combine shells at the 5:06 mark. I've also never had to remove seams in Meshmixer to get clean results from this process. I feel like this video gives you instructions to complete everything mentioned in the title. 🤔
