One observation from the overview video by Akai themselves is that the new features are very touch screen focused. As in, you can basically make a track from start to finish without touching any other buttons besides transport and pads. This makes me wonder if they're working on some form of MPC Mini that sacrifices a lot of the other buttons in favor of just a touch screen, q-links and the essential buttons.
It's probably more because MPC doesn't have the physical controls those features were designed for. The features came from Force, which has a much bigger set of physical controls, but on MPC it relies more on the touchscreen.
Great walk through Tefty. Really appreciate the coverage of the Q-link changes. I mostly use my MPC to control other gear, and really hope the Q-link changes help with that. You mentioned you might make a video on these soon. If you do, please show how they handlevNRPNs if you're able. Thanks
@@gctechs fixed. ;) And agreed. What they should do is offer a plug and play option with some of their APC's and the FORCE clip launch screen available.
@@Craftmaster3 I didn't say we NEEDED one like it's the end of the world. I would just like an update there as well. That weird "flip" style of changing bars is unintuitive, and quite frankly is a bad way to see a full sequence vs a Roland style XoX sequencer.

Great video. Two questions that came up for me. 1. Now that we get audio disk streaming. Does 3.0 now allow more than 8 audio tracks in standalone? 2. If you create a new sequence. Is it empty or do the tracks between sequences sync? Thus let's say if you have seqence 1 with drums, bass and an instrument and then create sequnce 2. Does ist have the same instruments or is it still like in 2.x that you either have to copy a sequence or recreate the tracks? If the track setup doesn't sync... How does arrangemet of multiple sequences work?
I finally got around to watching this. Great overview! I just have 2 quick questions... 1) If you have one sequence with the maximum 8 plugins running, when starting a second sequence are you still stuck with those same 8 plugins as the first sequence? Or can you use 8 new plugins? 2) When you had the individual tracks looping, could those be muted at different sections of the arrangement?
Looks like a great update. It's still missing a few things from the Force, but at this rate, it might catch up in just a few more updates. It seems like Akai has been working hard to merge the two product lines, which largely involves copying Force features into the MPC platform.
18:15 Oh dear. That’s a horrible addition that adds so much more work Thank you for your video. Super helpful. Quick question Do you know if the interface is exactly the same for keys 61 and can stems work in 61?
Looks great. I am sure it will get a lot of hate because of workflow changes. Maybe they could have a classic interface mode. Coming from the Akai Force, I am impressed. Can't wait to get this on my MPC Keys 6. I hope they update the Force as well. Audio Looping and Overdubbing would be a feature request to use it as a live looper but I always have my ipad with loopy pro on hand so not really an issue.
I would love a classic interface mode. I was pretty happy with audio and midi tracks being separate. Also, there were a lot of advantages to having tracks separate from the programs.
Great to see this method of arranging. What would make it even speedy to build an arrangement, would be if the clip grid functionality of the force was included in MPC 3.0. There could be a seperate overview screen of the 64 pad matrix. The pad bank selection buttons could select which of the 16 pads buttons you were currently using (imagine the 64 grid divided into 4 quadrants) or you could plug in a grid controller like the APC mini or APC64 controller.
Great review 👍 - I like that you always focus on the practicalities rather than just being a verbal quick guide. 3 questions... Have they added the ability to auto-trigger the sampler from sequence start/loop? Have they provided the audio tracks with the editing capability of the sample editor? Are there still multiple sequences per project? Playing live, I load a project where each sequence is a different song with it's own tempo, it's own set of instruments, etc (with obviously the same send effects and subgroups) - on the force a project is essentially one 'song' - which is fine, but it's hard to load a new project live, every time you play a new song
Thanks for this presentation :) Can we play samples and notes on the drumpad in the Track Mute and Next Seq pages? I'm asking because I would like to record live into arrange mode and have the recording loop, but have it muted in certain sections. the track mutes is an option in 2.0 already , under “instant track mutes” which will work how it works in 3.0, does 3.0 have a setting like this to toggle on and off?
can submixes now be bounced when exporting stems ? It used to ruin everything when you would use submixes and then bounce the track to stems, and every pad going through a submix was now muted... Hopefully it is now fixed.

Thanks for sharing. Did they add Ableton Control to the Key 61 and Key 37 with 3.0? It was odd the keyboards had this function left out. I didn’t see it in the menu.
Ordered my Key 37 yesterday and I've been cramming videos. Man, my head is spinning! I wish I could start my experience with MPC 3 instead of learning both. How long until the actual release?
Well. I've had my One all boxed & ready for auction for the last 2 months. Disk streaming is a game changer - I've wanted that for so long. Some other changes here are making the MPC a potential keeper after all.
@@eddiecardona1161 Maybe. I've always had a love/hate with the MPC. I regularly hit memory issues not having disk streaming. This update has two MAJOR new features that are easily worth holding out for: disk streaming and assignment of Q links to multiple destinations. Let's see. Im not precious about the MPC. I've always considered it a utility instrument. Definitely not god tier (lol). The update will either solve my use case issues or or not. I'm hopeful.
Long time mpc and force user here too, the advantages to me is the multi mapping q links, but currently you can do that to a controller, and its not worth giving up clip mode. Plus the mute situation is a big no no
Good video, but I was always confused on what Keygroups were????? and why do you need multiple sequences?? when you could have one, with multiple tracks that builds the song anyway? I know Programs have been renamed to Tracks, which should of been from the beginning AKAI!!! I have the AKAI Force and the GUI is much easier for my noodle to understand.
Not had chance to watch yet but quick question… As a hardware synth user and new Mpc user I found your channel basically looking for your video that shows how to loop hardware synth recordings that have reverb tails. Have that made all that shit easier now? That kind of a workflow was a real bummer to me. All I want is to quickly bounce my hardware synth to audio and have it loop nicely with its tail. After that this device will be golden.
Hmmm not super easy, but it is faster now that audio tracks share the same space. I actually did a follow up video showcasing that technique multiple times here: th-cam.com/video/PBENuWxUSVI/w-d-xo.html
Been a while since I commented on ur pages good brother…. Great video but the thing about 3.0 is it’s the force now in the mpc which is great but akai is lacking on the force. It’s been like a year since the force has an update, funny that 3.0 is the current force any thoughts on this. Salute and keep banging
The macro stuff is imo the best feature of the Force. It’s nice to see it make it over but it looks like based on videos the MPC is still missing modulation and being able to trigger macros from the pads like the Force.
I’m a sample based producer so my question is sampling editing sill the same? Since 3.0 doesn’t have programs anymore after you chop your sample do your chops still lay across the pads
On the mpc 2 the track mute got an option in preferences/sequencer called "instant track mute", which was off by default. Maybe they just set this default to ON in mpc3?
@@teftymusictech And yes, there is a "time division" button on the track mute page where you can set the time correction of the mute/unmute action (or set it off to instant audio mute) a bit like clip launch quantize. But it's still cutting off the audio, not the midi event.
Question about syncing mpc to external source: Currently (any firmware before 3) when MPC is sync'd to external source, if you arm an audio track (1 or more)> arm MPC rec or over dub> hit start/play, it only records a blip (very small audio track) and then immediately unarms the track. Is this still the case? If so, Can you (or anyone) please report this to Akai. I use studio one and it hs to be the master clock source. I have no work around to record external audio. I really want to use my MPC in this manner. I'm not alone, but I'd guess it's under reported.
It's basically better in every single way. Only downside as you said is no more shared programs but did you try to load same samples from the sample pool? So you can do it the old way but you will have to double all your tracks as midi. for example I can have 5 tracks acts as programs and make as much midi tracks I want. This is price I'm willing to pay with this insane redesign, features, and flexibility. Well done AKAI. I'm in the list for Beta. Can't wait to try this delicious colorful upgrade.
@@teftymusictech right. What I was trying to do is the old mentality by loading multiple drum programs then assign them to pads but that's not gonna work with sample pool only individual samples. Anyway I'm still impressed and happy with 3.0.
I’m hoping they updated it to include footswitch (fs2) control in standalone mode for the key61. Frustrating that I paid so much a flagship keyboard& I can’t engage overdub+ play - like I can with my older MPC 1000.😒 also I hope they allow macro control for keygroups parameters!! Other than global volume & portamento! Example: what if I want a qlink to change the envelope depth of a multisampled keygroup synth sound quickly in a live setting? 😢
Does this new issue solve some of the external audio card problems? Like for. Example does it fix some of the issues connecting the model 12 and the. MP c.
Lots of welcome improvements here but I was shocked to see drum programs are duplicated when using other tracks. I would often have multiple different drum patterns as tracks all pointing to the same program, quite the paradigm shift. Not sure how I feel about it yet but I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on it.
Same, I was a bit shocked with that shift. I usually split out my hats to different tracks for mutes. So you can technically do that with midi channels in MPC3, but the midi channels don't show the drum program you're using like it would in MPC2. Makes quick edits of the program a bit more tricky.
I’m curious as to if you can still make separate sequences and arrange them in the arranger as you please. Or if you have to work with just one sequence.
one thing I haven't seen anything about... have they made changes to how the pad-perform options work? one of the biggest limitations was that pad perform settings were global. Having them set per-track would be a massive boon
So essentially now you need to keep drum samples in separate drum programs if you want the ability to mute the hats separately from the kick on your drums? Would be nice with some way of customizing the whole Mute page so it could be track vs pad agnostic rather than keeping them separate. Other than that, this is simply an amazing update!
Yes...OR you setup additional midi tracks that send to the master drum program. The only issue with this is you lose the nice GUI showing what samples you're triggering because it's just a midi track at that point.
They finally did it! Nice to see new arrangement because in v2 it was really tedious to work with. Yet it's still messy. All they had to do was to create box/clip per each pattern with an option to copy/paste. That would boost workflow speed 100 times. Maybe in v4... Changes to Audio Track are great. Now it's actually useful. I like those changes but it doesn't make me regret selling MPC One recently. The workflow was slowing me down, even that I tried so hard to love MPC, I gave up and returned to Cubase.
Is the Track Mute option selectable in Preferences? On MPC 2 the "Instant Track Mute" option which behaves the way you are describing by cutting audio off, whereas the other option mutes the midi if I'm not mistaken.
Haha, now I don't miss the edit programm button on my live 2 since there are no more programms to edit ;) In all seriousness, I highly welcome the arraganger and other features!!
Yeah I should've wiped that MPC screen before hitting record lol

Did they add Ableton Control to the Key 61 and Key 37 with 3.0? It was odd the keyboards had this function left out. I didn’t see it in the menu.
I'm asking myself if we will get the Force clips workflow in further updates. Love this and the Launchpad controller support of Hakai mod 🤔
Ordered my Key 37 yesterday and I've been cramming videos. Man, my head is spinning!
I wish I could start my experience with MPC 3 instead of learning both. How long until the actual release?
What do you mean by "ideology" in this context? I haven't heard that word used in reference to synths, DAWs, etc.
Workflow/methods/ideas for making beats. Akai has an 'ideology' of how to go about making beats. Minus any political implication from the word.
Finally upgraded to beta4, this looks so much more natural.
Well. I've had my One all boxed & ready for auction for the last 2 months. Disk streaming is a game changer - I've wanted that for so long. Some other changes here are making the MPC a potential keeper after all.
The mpc workflow is god tier. If you wanted it bad enough you would’ve made it work. Relying on an update is crazy to me. To each there own I guess
Plus the mute situation is a big no no
I assume that MPC software / MPC Beats will also move to 3.0 - and I wonder if VST3 will be supported in that?
Where do we now bounce an entire sequence to sample? It’s no longer in the sequence edit pencil
Will projects created on MPC 2 load into and work with MPC 3?
Yes, but you have to choose which sequence to import, so it's a little different.
Can you now auto sample hardware synths to key groups sampling directly to 8 velocity layers??? CAN ANY1 PLEASE TELL ME 🙏
Not had chance to watch yet but quick question…
As a hardware synth user and new Mpc user I found your channel basically looking for your video that shows how to loop hardware synth recordings that have reverb tails.
One thing I haven’t seen addressed yet in any of the videos I’ve watched today, is there still a 4 audio track limit like in version 2? Or nah?
Hi nice Video. Can you link sequences together as one song?
I wonder if you can run Keygroups off of the SD cards or SSD harddrives?
Been a while since I commented on ur pages good brother…. Great video but the thing about 3.0 is it’s the force now in the mpc which is great but akai is lacking on the force. It’s been like a year since the force has an update, funny that 3.0 is the current force any thoughts on this. Salute and keep banging
also can you check external audio interfaces support? have they added 48khz support for external audio interfaces?
The macro stuff is imo the best feature of the Force. It’s nice to see it make it over but it looks like based on videos the MPC is still missing modulation and being able to trigger macros from the pads like the Force.
I’m a sample based producer so my question is sampling editing sill the same? Since 3.0 doesn’t have programs anymore after you chop your sample do your chops still lay across the pads
On the mpc 2 the track mute got an option in preferences/sequencer called "instant track mute", which was off by default. Maybe they just set this default to ON in mpc3?
On my build, that option doesn't exist in the preferences. It's possible it'll be in a future build though! Fingers crossed honestly.
Confirmed it's coming in a future build.
@@teftymusictech And yes, there is a "time division" button on the track mute page where you can set the time correction of the mute/unmute action (or set it off to instant audio mute) a bit like clip launch quantize. But it's still cutting off the audio, not the midi event.
Does the mpc 3 still have favorite feature for plugin presets
How stable is the beta update in your experience? Would it be too risky to ise it in a live context?
They didn’t happen to add any more audio tracks did they, or is it still only 8?
I wonder if mpc3 solved the click and pop problems associated with using an external audio interface?
Wow, looks like some nice enhancements. Have you tried the Key 37 with your MioXL/XM with the beta to see if they will talk to each other now?
I zoom in. Press record and it zooms out.. How do you change this?
Question about syncing mpc to external source:
Currently (any firmware before 3) when MPC is sync'd to external source, if you arm an audio track (1 or more)> arm MPC rec or over dub> hit start/play, it only records a blip (very small audio track) and then immediately unarms the track. Is this still the case? If so, Can you (or anyone) please report this to Akai.
I use studio one and it hs to be the master clock source. I have no work around to record external audio. I really want to use my MPC in this manner. I'm not alone, but I'd guess it's under reported.
does the update improve stems plugin processing with disk streaming in standalone?
Any changes to my main sampler, the looper?
It's basically better in every single way. Only downside as you said is no more shared programs but did you try to load same samples from the sample pool?
So you can do it the old way but you will have to double all your tracks as midi. for example I can have 5 tracks acts as programs and make as much midi tracks I want. This is price I'm willing to pay with this insane redesign, features, and flexibility. Well done AKAI.
I'm in the list for Beta. Can't wait to try this delicious colorful upgrade.
Yup, I showed in the video using midi tracks to reference a master track.
Unfortunately you dont have the pad colours and somehow my padlayout was wrong though i was on chromatic in the pad perform.
@@teftymusictech right. What I was trying to do is the old mentality by loading multiple drum programs then assign them to pads but that's not gonna work with sample pool only individual samples.
Anyway I'm still impressed and happy with 3.0.
@@lallo4life pad colors is there in the main menu. Look at the second page.
@@MS7.7 Yeah I know. I mean if you control a Track via a midi track. the midi track wont have the same colour layout and samples are not in order..
MP c.
Great! Thanks!!
Did they fix midi note muting? When I play the exact same note at the same time on two different midi keyboards, one note is always muted
This
I'll have to test!
Loopop mentioned the ability to create an alias to a track if I’m not mistaken.
Loopop 4:20
I’m curious as to if you can still make separate sequences and arrange them in the arranger as you please.
Or if you have to work with just one sequence.
Can you do punch in/out record on audio tracks? With v2 its more of a all or nothing approach
I have seen someone doing overdub in audio tracks if that's what you mean
one thing I haven't seen anything about... have they made changes to how the pad-perform options work? one of the biggest limitations was that pad perform settings were global. Having them set per-track would be a massive boon
Dude is... this is how to use MPC3. Actually, comes out with a professional beat.... that was the secret plan
Exactly it’s super weird how they didn’t do that
Yo Teflon! With direct to disk, does that open up “unlimited” audio tracks?
Sadly no, still just 8 audio tracks. But! I noticed just recently that you can load 'streaming' samples into drum programs in the sample load section.
Are there still only 8 audio tracks?
Is the Track Mute option selectable in Preferences? On MPC 2 the "Instant Track Mute" option which behaves the way you are describing by cutting audio off, whereas the other option mutes the midi if I'm not mistaken.
I don't see it my build. It's possible it'll end up in the final build, hopefully!
would be happy to own one.
Love the new features, but a little annoyed that my expensive af hardware has a button that says "Prog Edit" to get me to "Tracks" now
It won't be long before MPC stuff or someone will be selling new buttons and definitely skins
Is song mode still there?
The list eddit and step sequencer have new features ?
how many tracks can you create?
Haha, now I don't miss the edit programm button on my live 2 since there are no more programms to edit ;)
In all seriousness, I highly welcome the arraganger and other features!!
Does it still have the 8 plugin limit in standalone????
So nobody noticed the new plugin instrument in Andy Mac's overview video? Called "Sub Factory."
🤫🤫🤫🤫😂
@@teftymusictech Sorry
You're good! It was Akai's slip up.
