After I attempt downgrade to mpc2, the key61 boots back into mpc3 wtf?! Anyone go through this, I've tried 3 times...

For me at the moment it’s the missing clip programs that’s annoying. Time signatures ain’t a problem because you can acheive any time signature if you think about it.

Sick features, and great video as always! For sure prefer MPC 3 over the previous version, much more intuitive. But pushing new NI content when we haven't even gotten back to being able to work in 3/4 when it was in the previous OS version is a strange order of priorities. Long term MPC user and fully DAWless, definitely need that control back.

Hi Tefty. Thanks for the video, there are some aspects/limitations of the Keygroup XL that I think should be clarified as Akai have not explained them in the 3.41 manual PDF: 1. A program can only have one Keygroup XL. Once you have switched a keygroup into this mode, you can add new keygroups but they will all use the LFO/Filter/Envelope/Mod Matrix settings you applied in the first keygroup. You may switch the other keygroups into Legacy mode where they will all have their own settings, but they will then lose access to the new features in XL. So essentially Keygroup XL is more of a program type than a keygroup type. 2. In Keygroup XL the standard two LFOs are polyphonic (each voice starts a new LFO). There is a Reset toggle to control whether the LFO cycle retriggers with key or pad presses, however it's almost a moot point since the LFO is not monophonic and thus every key/voice has it's own LFO and there is no way to make them move together in unison. 3. The two Global LFOs are in fact monophonic, and thus if you are looking for a traditional synthesizer LFO to create a vibrato or tremolo effect across the entire instrument, these Global LFOs are the ones to use, they will affect all voices simultaneously. 4. The Global LFOs are also permanently in free-running mode and do not have a reset toggle. 5. Akai have still not implemented a free-running LFO Reset toggle in the legacy keygroups, despite this being a long-standing popular feature request. 6. Because of 5. above, it's still completely impossible to assign a free running LFO to any sample in a Drum Program. You cannot for example attach an LFO to a cymbal sample and make a notch filter sweep around on that sample over time, because Drum Programs are in legacy keygroup mode, and are permanently retriggering. So while the Keygroup XL is welcome, it has made no improvement to modulation limitations that exist in Drum Programs.

Great video man you know your stuff lol! Hey had a question and I haven't been able to figure it out..If I sample a vocal say..aah or ooh and I have it as a single wave file I know I can put it in keyboard mode but how do I fix it where when I play that sample up and down the keys it doesn't speed up or slow down so I can play a chord with the vocal and the pitches are correct ..I guess time stretching the sample ...but anyway I hope I explained it well thnx in advance..maybe u can do a video thnx

Great tutorial! It's amazing you can do this much sound design even on an MPC One. I have an old Teenage Engineering PO-16 that I've never really gotten any real usage out of. Definitely going to try this with it as a source.

isnt this Mod Matrix stuff totally new? i dont remember this being in the system before 3.0 final? its been something ive been looking for for a while because i wanted to use the MPC as a sample mangler and audio processor in terms of experimental type stuff and i couldnt find any of this sound design type functions except what was already there in the drum player... was this always in the multisampler area?? oh well.... this is awesome because its exactly what i was looking fotr in terms of sound design when using a sampler... namely a mod matrix that has enough sources and destinations to accomplish some generative type functions, or other synthesis type activitiies

I bought the N.I. Maschine a week or two ago and am just sending it back now. I thought to myself ''Should have got the MPC all along'', but this video has made me realise what the issue is for me. I've spent the last 25 years trying to make my music NOT sound like a bunch of square blocks in a row. So from my point of view, some of these devices and workflows are like a big (and expensive) step backwards. Thank you for waking me up from my G.A.S. induced blindness. If i want to write a tune, i'll use a DAW. If i want to jam on something in my hardware rig that plays just samples, i don't really need something this full on.

Did you purposely avoid the broken Autosampler?

The only thing in 3.0 that I care about. Incredible. I'd pay for the advanced keygroups in a 2.15 update. AKAI!! Take my money!! Bring it as a final 2.15 update.

How many LFOs does this have, is there just the 2 you were talking about, or are there more?

Ah nice I watched the majority of the first version. Gonna peep this for the corrections. Really hyped about MPC 3 now that I know for sure they're actively working on time signatures haha. This is one of the dopest new updated features of MPC 3. Offers some of the most in depth sound design on MPC in general, besides Opx-4.

I have the OG Live & sampled in a single layer of outboard gear or VSTs via autosampler to create larger keygroups across 88 keys that samples in every other key for 8 seconds each. Which eats up memory pretty quick when loaded in for a session. I can get away with loading in about 8-10 full keygroups/instruments into a typical project without running into any issues but i do wish that Akai would have allowed for us easily upgrade to more ram without having to buy another unit.

23:43 not sure if anyone’s clarified or you’ve figured it out yet but, if in the shift pattern settings if You turn smooth to on or off this doesn’t happen, it only does in auto mode. I thought that smooth was in reference to the quantisation.

crazy you can't change the time signature

The main reason I keep the micro freak is the keyboard. Makes me play the synth in a different way. It is also a midi poly aftertouch interface which the mini freak isn’t.
