I was a bit confused about if mpc one will receive the update too? He said 'the old mpc live' and on the akai video it wasnt clear. I also bought a used mpc one (the black one) earlier this year and im hoping its supported! Do you know if it is?
IMPORTANT: The problem with the 3.0 update is the SONG MODE, as it has been severely DEGRADED. (as it stands right now) Song Mode is "still there".... well yes, but barely... Indeed, you can't mute (and record mutes) on each and every track independently / per sequence anymore! That is my most used feature, and the whole reason I got the MPC in the first place! It replaced my old but great Alesis MMT-8. So many MPC users are screaming about this problem now. That is a massive change that totally kills my usual workflow. All my +300 projects are filled with programmed mutes on and off... Thus, those projects will be incompatible with 3.0... a big loss! I will evidently not upgrade to 3.0, as long as they have not fixed the independent mute per sequence feature problem. Lets hop it's just a bug??
I think the "Slice Motion" is an interesting feature that can actually be used for Round-Robin Samples. We can in theory create 8-velocity drum pads with round-robin with a relatively infinite amount of round-robins. Finally.
Was about to hit sell on my Live 2 due to the nonsensical workflow and UI pains. I wanted to love the MPC so bad cause the hardware is great, but it was so hard to navigate and use I had given up. I really didn’t expect new software but whoa, this might actually turn it around for me!
Always had the SAME issue. I WANTED to adopt the MPC workflow but just wasn't intuitive enough for me. NOW........I'M GOOD TO GO! Thanks AKAI. I'll start using my MPC now.
The GUI seems to have a higher dependency on the touchscreen. Unsure if its smart move. I thought a MPC is all about q-links, button and pad combos press to develop muscle memory for a faster work flow. Not really convinced to be honest. Every time I found a way to not touch a screen was a total win, or even a sport. Now it's only fair to support a mouse...

@@famoushaze8634 you can only have 8 plugin tracks total. No duplicates of a plugin track now. Drum program equivalents are unique. Editing one tracks program. Will not affect another track with the same samples. Which sucks
Thanks for such an in depth video. This was very informative, along with the official video from Akai. The programs feature will be missed for us. We’ve been using mpc since the 4000 in the mid 2000’s and not having such an amazing feature that was the standard for the machine is simply heartbreaking . To top it off not being able to utilise the same drums from 1 kit on multiple tracks is mind boggling. Akai is trying to integrate into standalone exactly what they were trying to get away from and that’s the software DAW world. This new update while refreshing is overkill for a machine based off of simplicity and workflow. To many features which have nothing to do with the workflow of an already great machine . While killing what the machine was created and used for for 30+ yrs WORKflow.
I assume if the old project your same kits across different root programs (1,2,3) that it would transfer over to the new OS. it looks like Akai is focused on UX and bringing as many people in right now, so that type of seamless compatibility had to have been considered for all our legacy projects
@@ddmlxr yes. Only the first instance will play correctly. The rest will be turned into midi tracks. (Edit. For plugins. For drum programs it duplicates the program but each track has its own parameters so if you had kicks on one track hats on the next and snare on the third you would need to go into each respective editor to make changes . ) For plugins You could route these to the first track but if you mute the first track nothing else would play. Muting audio instead of muting sequenced midi still. (Still a sore point of mine) So your option is to create a track to pretend to be a program.. Then when you want to edit one of those midi track programs you need to navigate to the ghost program to hit edit.
They dropped "Clip" programs! I can't believe this. I used Clips all the time to loop samples of different lengths, and now in 3.0 the entire Clip programs is GONE. Please tell me Clips will be back in the public release.

I'm asking myself the same question, I use my MPC in a Live setup, without an alternative to clip programs, I'm going to have to think twice before updating.
You don’t need clips to quantize tempo synced clips ;). I never ever used clips programs but would always use drop breaks that speed up and slow down with the master BPM
@@loopopDo you think they haven't directed it towards a new function that covers that need? They're finally getting it right👏👏👏 My secret dream is that one day they will include a slot for a reference track with key + bpm detection, a more comprehensive lfo as a plugin would be swell as well. Beyond that little dream...well played akai
This is an abomination of the MPC workflow to look even more like a generic DAW in a box. Programs being gone is a dealbreaker for me. They ARE the MPC workflow and they're what allow my workflow to move as fast as it does. Now they've completely disrupted the entire basis of their workflow design that made them stand out to just be a worse DAW. This is BS.
@@user-rv8wb1nl1b I'm on board with a lot of the workflow changes they made here and the conveniences like being able to rearrange the order of FX which should have been there since day 1 frankly, but this is too far gone for me. I've used the MPCs for decades BECAUSE of their workflow. Why would they cater to an audience who DOESN'T like them and constantly complains that they should be something they're not instead of their CORE AUDIENCE? 🤦♂️
@@valemaxema73 it's not the same and I can see that. It's much more tedious because I'd have to copy a track including all of its data including MIDI information and automation data that I would then have to manually go in and delete potentially just to start a new sequence with the same "program" of sounds. It completely kills the workflow of what makes an MPC an MPC and the very reason I have used them for decades now. All to appeal to people who don't like their product. Not a smart move IMO
thanks for the video. Would love to see sample chopping features added like Serato before the final release. Adding "Random" to Threshold, region, bpm and manual. Like Serato the ability to lock in particular chops and then hit random again would be killer. Possibly even adding a feature that after locking in a sample from random, the ability to time stretch and pitch change each locked sample individual would be an epic 3.0 addition. cheers
I genuinely preferred the programs separate from the tracks because I often sketch out using a limited number of programs and then replace them as I evolve the composition. Now, I think I'll need to be more precise from the get go to not have extra steps created by 3.0. It's just another workflow.
I'm really loving MPC3. But they need to bring back odd time signatures. Loopop, spread the word that we need odd signatures in both quarter and eighth note division! Thanks for the great work as always!
I just got the Live II a week ago, what a time hahah! Love everything, though coming from older gen MPCs I feel like removing programs is a 50/50 move. It’s way easier to bank sounds having programs and that’s partly what made MPC an MPC. I hope navigating sounds and organizing kits within one “track” will still be easy as I don’t dig 1-1 track workflow. I always bang a whole kit with several drums similtaneously and only explode when mixing
5:49 "if you miss programs beyond that" in my case 2 things: 1st for mutes. I was muting tracks as a "pattern mute" where switching to a new sequence would not carry the mute whereas program mute was global. I use both options differently depending if I'm arranging or performing live. 2nd since mixing was happening at the program level, on one hand it was less flexible, on the other, guaranteeing consistency between sequences. Now you'll have to mix each sequence and actively check for consistency 🤔
I’m glad I really only use my Live for live performance uses. All I wanted was disk streaming and not be limited to the Ram for backing tracks. Breaking the Program/Track workflow is majorly bad to me but over the years I’ve had many friends who had a hard time grasping that workflow. I learned on an MPC 16 years ago, so for me it was incredibly fast and intuitive. So this will now be a machine purely for live performance, and my MPC60 will remain my main drum machine and midi sequencer (along with an RK-008). Besides, I never liked how the Live II didn’t have a track +/- button, and List Edit was much worse than the Step Edit that was in legacy MPCs.
The Mixer and the Arranger of the Force now on MPC. Great. But why we must wait so long for this important feature? Now I am waiting for file data exchange between two MPCs or MPC and Force via network. Or a file copy funktion in the file browser. Or an external Q-Link controller with 16 Q-Links. But I think Akai goes the rigt way with the new MPC 3.0. Great funktions and a very intuitive workflow.
Arrange view is not practical on small screens that is why Roland had a DV out on the MV8800 to hook up a PC monitor. Since Akai is going the Abelton/Logic daw style I minus well continue to use Abelton since its way ahead of Akai at the moment. The MPC is no longer an MPC with this update in my opinion.
Some major improvements in workflow! Curious if the start up screen allows you to load projects or still limits you to new project or user template. Is this Beta stable?
Nice and deep review, as always from loopop. Thanks. Happy to see that this update fix lot of annoying things happened on previous version... bye, programs, lots of bugs there so that's maybe was the reason to kill them on the 3. Not liking the new colorful appearance... why not let the people decide the color to have in the different parts? Like you can do in some DAWs so you can personalize your experience while making music.

Endlich haben wir einen vernünftigen arranger... yeah. Grüsse aus Deutschland 🎉
Love it!! Always can count on LoopOp to dig right on in and give up all the details. Wow drum track explode!!! I sure hope this migrates to the force.
It's basically the FORCE OS on MPC. I like! :)
LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I never really bonded with Version 2, even though I use it live on stage. AKAI, thank you so much for this!
IMPORTANT: The problem with the 3.0 update is the SONG MODE, as it has been severely DEGRADED. (as it stands right now)
Song Mode is "still there".... well yes, but barely...
Finally.
I'd like to see what old projects look like directly after upgrading because I want to see what I'd be dealing with.

This really great - I've signed up for the beta, since there's going to be a learning curve. Nice presentation!
I feel the same way. I literally have my mpc x just collecting dust. Hopefully this new workflow is easier
Yeah- same for me- now I have to unpack the One and give it a shot. That Program nonsense was all confusing and needless... Thanks Ziv!
It won’t change the world. If you didn’t like it before, you probably still won’t.
It’s like Dark Souls… it’ll kick your ass for the first 100 hours, but after getting the hang of it, it’s incredibly satisfying to play.
Another stellar review/tutorial…cannot wait to get stuck in to this on my One +
The GUI seems to have a higher dependency on the touchscreen. Unsure if its smart move. I thought a MPC is all about q-links, button and pad combos press to develop muscle memory for a faster work flow. Not really convinced to be honest. Every time I found a way to not touch a screen was a total win, or even a sport. Now it's only fair to support a mouse...
I have MPCX and I barely touch the screen. This is by design not because of MPC 2 or 3
Get MPCX or XSE if you want more hands on.

Thanks! As I show in the video, you can send MIDI to a single track if you want to use the same drums
Thanks for the overview! What about old projects which use multiple prgms with the same kit, would i have to rebuild those projects to work in mpc 3?
I assume if the old project your same kits across different root programs (1,2,3) that it would transfer over to the new OS. it looks like Akai is focused on UX and bringing as many people in right now, so that type of seamless compatibility had to have been considered for all our legacy projects
They should work
@@ddmlxr yes. Only the first instance will play correctly. The rest will be turned into midi tracks.
(Edit. For plugins. For drum programs it duplicates the program but each track has its own parameters so if you had kicks on one track hats on the next and snare on the third you would need to go into each respective editor to make changes . )
For plugins
You could route these to the first track but if you mute the first track nothing else would play. Muting audio instead of muting sequenced midi still. (Still a sore point of mine)
So your option is to create a track to pretend to be a program..

@@wurlinnawurl program edit does the same thing - edits the plugin on the track. Btw clip programs don’t exist (at least not in the beta) so they’ll load as drum tracks with the clips
Ziv- you may have saved the MPC for me. With this firmware and your multisample packs I may have to pull this out of the box again.
Sweet!
AKAI dropped the clip programs? Is there an alternative to launch tempo synced audio clips quantized live or not? Because for me it's a huge NO NO if AKAI completely got rid of that function.
I'm asking myself the same question, I use my MPC in a Live setup, without an alternative to clip programs, I'm going to have to think twice before updating.
You don’t need clips to quantize tempo synced clips ;). I never ever used clips programs but would always use drop breaks that speed up and slow down with the master BPM
no more clip programs unfortunately
@@loopopDo you think they haven't directed it towards a new function that covers that need?
Tubbediga has released a paid guide on the new MPC3 firmware, and one of the chapters is titled:
"MPC 3 NEW SAMPLE LOOP MODE + LIVE AMBIENT PERFORMANCE"

Agreed. Workflow walls I kept running into and didn't want to spend the time figuring out how to climb over now seem to be gone. I look forward to seeing if I'll now find my Live II something I actually feel like doing things with. I wonder when / how this will be released?
They're finally getting it right👏👏👏
My secret dream is that one day they will include a slot for a reference track with key + bpm detection, a more comprehensive lfo as a plugin would be swell as well.
This is BS.
I AGREE , this is a step backwards .
@@EsogeBecause it’s a bigger audience.
You can literally replicate the program paradigm in this new update by using MIDI tracks as Loopop shows. What's lost with this change?
It's just another workflow.
thank you AKAI for this! mpc 3 sounds like fun
I'm really loving MPC3. But they need to bring back odd time signatures.
Loopop, spread the word that we need odd signatures in both quarter and eighth note division! Thanks for the great work as always!

Thanks! Nothing beyond list view (unless I missed something!)
@@loopop rad, was just curious, appreciate the reply!
Good points! It certainly feels like they've focused on a one-sequence workflow
@@loopop looks like it yeah
Also there's probably gonna be workarounds or equivalents
This update looks great, i think ill have to try the beta
@loopop hopefully they’ll port these features to the Force.
Ouch! Did he say the OLD MPC Live. I have one and am happy with it, thank you 😅
Super cool update.
I hope they do a big uodate in Force soon too, but it seems a great uodate for MPC.
Very informative. Appreciate this video
Glad it was helpful!
The MPC is no longer an MPC with this update in my opinion.
i cannot wait and i will not wait any longer. GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!

you can load recent projects on the startup screen too. I think it's pretty stable but there are bugs here and there
This fixes most issues I had regarding workflow/visual representation of tracks. Nice one, Akai!

Nice and deep review, as always from loopop. Thanks. Happy to see that this update fix lot of annoying things happened on previous version... bye, programs, lots of bugs there so that's maybe was the reason to kill them on the 3.
