I got to be honest. For a family with a gran that had the greenest thumb under the sun while she was alive, we somehow managed to kill a cactus that only needed water every 2 weeks and a tablespoon at that. How that was possible, we do not know, but we managed it

It would seem that in place of your grandma's green thumb, you inherited ultra negligence instead
funnily enough, a main cause of death for a potted cactus is overwatering. make sure you have a very well draining soil, and please dont water it every 2 weeks with that little of water. in the desert, when it rains it pours. wait until the plant is dehydrated and starts getting wrinkly, then absolutely drown it and let the water run through the holes in the bottom. the soil should dry up fairly fast, within a day or so, meaning the roots have long enough to absorb the water but not so long that it gets waterlogged. as someone with over 40 succulents, i know a few things so trust me

Oh gosh, wasn't expecting that mention of Generator Rex at the end. Man, _that's_ a blast from the past. Never managed to really follow it consistently, though, and then it just disappeared. I don't even know if the story ever reached a conclusion.
I got a cactus once. The top dried up completely in two weeks and the bottom was all mushy, even though I watered it the exact time I was supposed to. I'm never trusting any stores advice on how to take care of a plant anymore. I stopped doing that a very long time ago with animals, but I guess plant stores are just as incompetent as pet stores (which you should never support btw).
Also, in case anyone was wondering, my mom beat me cus the cactus died. I still don't know why and it's been two years already.

I understand cacti have a very specific watering schedule depending on time of year. Looking back, perhaps you might've oversaturated it? Still, it's no reason to get physically abused by mom. What'd it cost, like $8?

I went through my school with all A's and thought I was smart, but then I got to a tech school ( Which I still passed and got a permit, but barely) and realized my school was just shit because I knew absolutely nothing. And it didn't help that I always had awful critical thinking skills. Now I'm a depressed weirdo with a dead-end job because I'm too scared that I'll fail if I get a Biotech job with my permit. Life sucks.

As someone who was in gifted program (along with skipping a grade), lemme tell ya not only does it suck being really young but another thing about gifted kids is they tend to have add/ADHD along with bad anxiety. so doing nothing when I should be doing something and my brain moving a thousand miles an hour ahead is the life i lead

@Insomnia_Gaming you know, you could be right, but as someone who's also considered gifted (at least by my parents and [supposedly] my neighborhood) and also "just existing", the only times I've ever cried is out of frustration at how much work I have to do just to get a passing mark (which is a problem that's become even worse in highschool because now I don't have the time required to develop work ethic good enough to make the work seem manageable), now to be fair, I've never felt depressed nor have I had to deal with anxiety (or if I have, no one's ever told me), but "just existing" has never by itself made me cry, I understand life's terrible right now, but I highly doubt "just existing" is enough to make you breakdown, something else is going on (though I don't know you, so maybe "just existing" really is enough to make you breakdown and if it is you should try to convince your parents to let you see a therapist, because if "just existing" is that distressing to you it might eventually lead to you developing suicidal thoughts)
Not a gifted kid but that last part about “doing nothing when I should be doing something and my brain moving a thousand miles an hour” feels extremely relatable and accurate to how I am, which is lowkey scary
I am still a gifted child and i already have anxiety.

@@flameindigo8035 IIRC, Xers are the smallest generation, or at least there are/were a lot fewer of them than Boomers (literally named such because of the "baby boom" after WWII), and Millenneals (whose generation was considered a second "baby boom" as I recall); as for gen Z, not sure how they compare in numbers, but pretty sure more than gen X- and in any case, they're the newest group to come of age, so of course they'll get extra attention for that reason, too.
We also are called Gen Yikes because yikes, this world sucks.
I work in tech, so there is a special place in my heart for Lexplanations, but Robin's Carlin-esque irreverent, tell-it-like-it-is, biting and relatable commentary is my favorite part of EmKay

I saw a video analysis of a study once that explored this belief (I think the study was called "Do People Really Become More Conservative as They Age?" by Jonathan C. Peterson). If I remember correctly, the conclusion was that while beliefs are generally stable across time, those whose beliefs change as they get older tend to trend in a more conservative direction (key word is "tend" #hashtagnotall) rather than everyone generally becoming more conservative. Therefore there is at least some truth to this saying.
hypothesis: society trends leftward and older people are less likely to change their views, ergo the perception of older people becoming more conservative is caused by middle aged people stagnating while society's "center" shifts slightly leftward.

I will typically spend like half of my XMas Bonus on specifically Walmart or Wegmans gift-cards for my family. This allows the people I give the gift cards to a variety of both essential and non-essential items they can purchase. That said, my (younger) brothers are almost certainly making more than me and both have their own kids and their own house. So the gift-card is gonna be used.
When it comes to my friends specifically, I'll gift them cash. Or stuffed animals, or food...which will also have like a couple $20 bills attached somewhere.

I write stories sometimes as a hobby. I come up with the idea, write what I want to say in my head, then type it into a google document. But sometimes, it sounds perfect in my head but cringe when I proofread it. Does anyone else get that, or just me? One time I tried to write a dream I had in my notebook, but I couldn't make it sound right so I just kind of gave up.
It is the curse of every writer, eventually, we learn to coexist with our writing, regardless of how cringy we think it sounds

Lost Generation and Greatest Generation were before the Silent Generation, and I think thats as far back as Generations go when it comes to proper labeling.

I was top of my class (I in the science program in high school) and I became homeless a month before graduation, dropped out and now I have too many mental health problems to go back to work. Moral of the story being the best in high school does not prepare you for life.
