During the battle of Marathon, an ancient greek city, i believe (someone fact check me) the Athenians were in a battle with Persia and needed back ups. Unfortunately they had no way to contact so the leader gave the message to their best runner and guy gunned it for 26 miles with no resources to deliver the message
What rubs it in is that, a) Marathon and Athens weren't quite that far apart (closer to 25 miles - approx 40 km, which was the original competitive distance. Then b) we added some yards to the distance early in the 20th century during the first Olympics in London. They wanted the finish line to be below the royal box. So it's 26 miles _and_ 385 yards _and_ not many people die doing it!
Edit: just checked, it was formalized to 26.2 miles a bit later (42.165 km)!

After making his announcement, the exhausted messenger collapsed and died. To commemorate his dramatic run, the distance of the 1896 Olympic marathon was set at 40 kilometers.

Dishes, laundry, and showering are difficult for me because I have depression and executive dysfunction. I literally CAN'T be consistent on them. I shower about once a week. I do laundry when I run out of socks. I do the dishes sometimes. Having mental health issues is hell.

Tell me about it. I only eat one meal a day at most - sometimes I just sleep so I don't have to make anything. Life is exhausting.
Laundry is practically impossible for me just because of how many steps it is just taking the clothes down into the basement to the washing machine. And now there's the extra step of our new dryer that has to live on the back porch because it doesn't fit through the door to the basement, so I have to climb UP after climbing DOWN, and the new dryer takes hours - HOURS - to finish. it's an all-day job and it IS that hard.

The Marathon is named after a a legend from Ancient Greece. After a Greek victory against the Persians, a messenger ran somewhere between 20 to 25 miles from Marathon (the site of the battle) to Athens, in order to report their victory.
I'm sure it was less than 26 miles, but I can't remember exactly how far it was. I also am unsure if he survived after the run, but having won a war and then running for ~3-5 hours wouldn't have been the best for his physical health.
From what I've heard, he collapse right after arriving at the destination, he was able to deliver the scroll, but he died.
it was 25 miles i think and from what i know they won,leader gave the message to their best runner,he legged it (sprinted if you’re not irish) 25 miles to athens to deliver the message. he delivered the message and then collapsed and died of exhaustion

Actually, before hand he ran 300 miles around the country delivering messages(as he was a messenger during a war period) and then, during his last 26 mile stretch he died from exhaustion.

That guy DID run 26 miles to deliver the message "Victory!" and then died on the spot.
Yes , the Marathon story is pretty crazy. His name was Phidippedes, he run from Athens to Sparta (~240km) in one day to ask for help with the persian invasion. Later, he went to Marathon and there, he fought in the battle but before the day was over, he run all the way back to Athens to anounce the victory.
Also an important part of the story is that he run back to Athens fully armed. That is because many deserters would drop their heavy shield and weapons while fleeing. The greeks had a special word for that, ρίψασπις /'ripsaspis/, one who drops his shield. He was bringing news of a great victory and did not want to appear as someone fleeing for his life from a defeat.
If you take all that into consideration, no wonder he died of exhaustion.

What happened
In the same vein of running your finger along all the buttons of the remote; I like to take my index, middle, and ring finger and put them each on a set of three button all the way from the top to bottom of the remote. The marathon thing is true. A herald named Phidippedes ran 26 miles from Marathon (a city) to Athens to announce the Greek victory of the battle in Marathon.
Because the Athenians were in the process of evacuating and were getting ready to burn the city down since they did not expect to win that battle. Had he been late they would have burned Athens to the ground to deny it to the Persians.

Hey anyone, idk why but for the last few weeks I feel depressed for no particular reason. I thought it was just because of some problems I've been avoiding, but when I actually fix them I don't feel anything. It's just void, and I'm looking straight at it. I've never felt something like this before and it make me hopeless. Even art I usually enjoy making now feel bland.
