  • In this video, I am testing out a Bixpy Jet kayak motor on my Old Town Predator PDL. I am really pleased with it and it made a great addition to the kayak. Having the option to paddle, pedal, and a motor is nice.

    Hey bro. I love my Oldtown 120 pdl, I just received in July 2021. I did purchase my bixpy and, a 2nd battery.I have my main battery behind my seat. My 2nd battery is mounted on a bracket in my front hull. My FF, VM/USB's and go pro, I run off a Cabela's 12V, inside a 30 cal ammo box DIY'D. I fish large lakes and resevoirs, and love being out all day. This season will be my 1st set of tournaments. I'm 5ft 7 151 lbs. So I'm getting close to 5mph, depending on winds and currents. I just love the bixpy, because everything you need is in that kit. And at 9lbs for a kayak is awsome.be safe bro. 🙏 🎣

    Nah, not for me anyway, the pedal drive and my legs are still king. The battery staying power is still not remotely good enough for the length of time I spend out on a session at sea. When they come up with a battery that can power me for 4 hours everyday and charges quickly, then I will look again. I'ts more of a novelty to be sitting there moving on power for a while and running down a battery. Interesting video, gives a good account of where we are with this kinda tech.

    Tell me about the bixpa now. Would you recommend it? How about the rudder mount?

    • @FishingwithFaron
      @FishingwithFaron  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would still recommend the Bixby and the rudder mount. I have since got an auto pilot kayak but I feel like the Bixby motor on a pedal drive kayak was a lot more versatile and I could still use one kayak and fish all tournaments even the ones that didn't allow motors.

    How did it steer while pedaling?

    • @FishingwithFaron
      @FishingwithFaron  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bixpy rudder was lighter and a little less surface area but I found it was still adequate. With the motor attachedI didn't notice any loss of performance, without the weight of the motor there was a slight decrease in efficiency.

    Did you mount the Bixpy on the Old Town rudder or a different attachment?

    • @FishingwithFaron
      @FishingwithFaron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the Bixby universal rudder since it slid up and down instead of raising and lowering like the stock rudder. If I was going to try again I would see if the OT rudder could lift and lower easy enough with the Bixby attached to it.

    Do u think u would like a trolling motor on front of the kayak for fishing? I'm hooking mine up rite now and putting a long tiller pipe on it and moving the head to the seat. I'll find out if I like it or not but when it's on the back and I need to go right or left u have got to push it in a big space in stead of just pulling it over

    • @FishingwithFaron

      @@build.drive.fish. yeah I'm not sure, I wish I would have tried it first. The Bixby rudder just slides up instead of lifts. I have it connected to the rudder deploy handle but it doesn't raise in all the way up. Only time that has been an issue is in the lily pads. It tends to get caught.
