    Thanks for posting this. I've been on the fence about a bixpy for over a year now... after watching this, decided to pull the trigger. I've watched about a million different DIY solutions, and while there are so many cool possibilities, with limited time/energy, I decided to just go with a tried and true product and the ease of install/operation in this and other videos you have convinced me to just get it done already lol.
    I love my Sportsman PDL, but have been using my Salty way more because it is just so much faster and easier to pedal. I believe once I get the bixpy installed I'll find equal opportunity to use both again.

      Thanks for the kind words and congrats on getting a bixpy! Yeah, saltys are awesome and you’re gonna get much faster speeds than with the sportsman. Enjoy!

    Nice work, I had thought of mounting a trolling motor to this same rear power pole spot, but concerned about the offset handling, and weight making the boat list to one side.
    My 9" Garmin mounted left side with the paddle is already making my boat list uncomfortably to the left but I want the right side clear for landing fish.
    Wish you had an on the water test of this setup to see how it rides.....

    i have an almost identical set up on my Bonafide ss107. love it so far. the only thing different i did was add an extension cord from bixpy that allows my battery to fit under my seat instead of behind me. makes it easier to reach the kill switch although bixpy says you may lose a little power because of the length of the cord (4.5')

    • @WannaFishAllDay

      Thanks! That’s a great idea. Didn’t even know the extension cord existed. On my “to order” list. Really appreciate you checking out the channel and providing awesome feedback!! Cheers!

      Use large gauge wire for car stereos, like stinger 1/0. Very flexible and durable, looks nice, and varies carries a lot of current. make your own cord.

    Nice video. I got the same for my 106 PDL. Only thing the thumb screws inside the gap of the adaptor does not fit. I can’t tight them up. They seem bigger than what you have here. not sure I am doing something wrong.

    I was curious to know 2 things. 1) Does the the rudder interfere in any way with the motor, and 2) when going high to max speeds do you have to steer left a bit to adjust for the thrust pushing the kayak to the right.
    Thanks!

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Chris! I’ve used it about 5 trips so far and, up to this point, I haven’t noticed the rudder interfering with the motor at all. After readjusting the motor to point parallel with my kayak, it tracks straight at slow and high speeds. I really don’t notice any steering difference compared to when I’m pedaling. One thing that may just be my kayak, is occasionally, the steering will get a little stiff to turn left or right but it’s because my rudder is not completely down. Once I make sure the rudder handle is all the way to the stern, steering tightness goes away. Happens maybe 1-2 times during an 8 hour fishing session.

  • @tommyhighhook3689
    @tommyhighhook3689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: How do you feel about mounting a Bixpy motor to the pedal drive insert on the top water? They sell a DIY through hull adapter.

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tommy. Yes, I debated that. @rivermantv has a great install video for OT kayaks. I think it’s a great option for some. I ended up going with the stern mount bc I wanted to be able to use the pedal in conjunction with the motor. Yes, in theory you can do that with the hull adapter but the constant taking out/putting in/storing/messing with cables persuaded me to go the other route. I find that I use my pedals equally, if not more, than the bixpy when fishing so it was all about convenience and speed for me. Also, if I need to hustle, I pedal while using the motor simultaneously to get some additional speed. Saves the battery while getting me from point A to B a little faster. Just my preference. If you see yourself mainly using the motor, I would say the hull adapter is a great option. You can leave the pedals at home. Hope this helps!

    Hi. I have an older Topwater PDL so don't have the pre drilled holes. Will need to DIY it. How fast can you actaully get the going to?

  • @jett78
    @jett78 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see how pulling rope to pull motor out of water would work, but I don't see it being able to drop back down with enough force to snap back in when it hits the water. Feedback on that?

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For first 3-4 months of use, I would put my motor to speed 5-6 and it would pop in. Then you can lower the speed to whatever you want. After the motor clip got broken in (around 4 month mark), it would just pop into place from just dropping the motor. No need to go speed 5-6 anymore to drop in the motor. I also used my paddle to push it in if I didn’t want to turn on my motor right away. Really a non-issue once you start using the motor.

      @@WannaFishAllDay Ah, so the motor propulsion helped push it down there. Didn't think of that. Thanks for the reply.

    Very nice. However, I'm trying to locate a straight drop in Trolling Motor or Bixby Drive where my Pdl is located on my Old Town Salty 120.
    Just a drop in piece & I can't find anyone that makes a straight drop in. Seems like someone would make some money if they did. Any ideas, besides make your own with a cover plate?

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, the DIY thru hull kit is all they have right now. @RivermanTV did a video on it and it looks pretty simple but yes, you still need to DIY something to a cover plate. Anyhow, thanks for tuning in!

    Hey, Great install video! I was wondering if you still like the Bixby after a year. I want to put one on the back of my hobie PA 14 360. Does it have enough power to make a difference, and is the noise it makes too annoying? Thanks!!

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words. Honestly, I would look at a motor with more power (Newport or a Torqeedo) for a kayak as big and heavy as a PA14. The battery will run out much quicker and it’s proprietary so you would have to keep multiple batteries on deck. The noise is definitely noticeable as it has a lot of torque for such a small package.

      @@WannaFishAllDay Hey thanks so much for that quick response. I really appreciate it! What you said makes a lot of sense. I've watched a lot of videos on this subject and there's no real easy answer. The PA14 is already like a tank to move around . :) thanks again!

    I am very interested in how this turns out. As soon as I saw your video I have really considered it. I have debated mounting a xi3 but the price is deterring me. I am curious how the steering works out with the motor fixed and the stock rutter, as well as the distance this motor will provide. I cant wait to see your review on the water.

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the xi3 bow mounted is pretty awesome. Spot lock, come on lol!! Saw a lot of those this weekend at a kayak fishing tourney. But I decided against it bc of the cost and weight of the setup with battery.. Would definitely have to trailer it. I like the bixpy for obvious reasons but also the fact that is weighs under 10lbs inc. battery. Thanks for tuning in!!

      @@WannaFishAllDay Thank you so much. Did you consider the Newport Vessels Kayak Motor NK-180S?

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No prob. I did look at the NK but decided to go with bixpy bc of the weight, less cables and proprietary battery. With the NK, I would have to go with my own battery which probably would weight a lot more…. However, I did hear good things about the NK. Definitely faster than the bixpy..

    I have this same kayak. Been looking for a vid like this. I only want a motor for getting back to the ramp or to get to a spot faster. Also I don’t see how that motor can snap into the clip when it hits water on the way down. Does it snap in when it’s started?

      Yes, it snaps into the clip at med speeds now. I’ll start it at med to high speeds initially for it to pop into the clip and then can reduce speeds after that. Initially I had to use my paddle to pop it in but not necessary anymore.

    hello, one question Sr. today i got my power pole bixpy adapter. but i have a power pole install on my kayak, so i plant to install on the other side, my question is do you think i can put the adapter in line with my rudder and no on an angle as if I install on the power pole area?

    • @WannaFishAllDay
      @WannaFishAllDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s possible just as long as the rudder has clearance to move side to side without interferring with the motor. If it was me, I would want plenty of space btw the motor and rudder. I’m not sure how it would affect steering at high speeds with the rudder being so close to the motor.
