The day this came out was the closest I've came to selling my predator pdl. I was beyond pissed when I found out they wouldn't sell a retrofit kit. Mainly because they think their customers and sales shops are too stupid to install it and because they wanna make more money. The fact that every tournament I go to someone breaks something on their hobie had kept me in the predator pdl. I'm starting to look at the native kayaks, though. The titan x fixed a lot of problems, and it's nice to see companies listening to customer feedback.
I installed a trolling motor at the back of my 106PDL (used your adpator plate plus Newport plate on top) . It is best of both worlds options since I only take it for big trips while I still have my regular PDL foot pedals with no extra pedaling force like in the epdl+ and no extra weight to carry around at all time
Has nothing to do with customers being incapable of installing an e PDL Drive. And is all about Old Town wanting to sell brand new kayaks and making you buy a new whole kayak just to get the ePDL Drive
They could make a killing if they did, but like you said, they need to sell kayaks more than retrofit kits. just to think, I sold my predator last year.. sigh.. oh well, glad someone else is dealing with that heavy kayak.
@@NavarreKayakFishing yes, It was heavy out of the water but in the water it was great.. Time will tell what is the next big thing.. If they could integrate spot lock into it. Boom done, they got the market, but it has to be at a reasonable price.
I have a sportsman 106mk and I fish lakes and ponds and and it’s awesome but with the battery and motor and my crate it’s heavy I was thinking of switching over to a 120 pdl but I have herniated disc in my lower back will the pdl affect my back
I can’t say for sure - I would try to find someone who has one that will let you demo/rent it for a few hours on the water. It’s the only way you will know for sure.
I would get boonedox landing gear to help with the load along with the lithium battery. Not sure what your set up is. The 120 by itself is already heavy enough. I have a 106mk as well with lithium battery and Boonedox landing gear. It’s not too much of a struggle for me.
they should make reverse retrofit on pdl kayaks strait from factory - pre rig them for the epdl and sell the epdl drive itself as an option with different mounting bases for different models --- new fishing platform? cant be that much more expensive just cable two power sockets and kill switch ... more than one sale no different that buying bixies etc yet drop in installation
I don't see $6000 for this kayak to crazy, it's coming with everything you need. How much is a Hobie PA, plus motor, plus battery, plus ringing? I bet is much more
Bigwater PDL is $3250. The PDL is $1300. Let’s call the hull $2000. That means the value the new pedal drive and battery at $4000. That’s insane in my opinion.
i hope they do sell it i get what you are saying and probably 100% right, but they should have you acknowledge or sign a disclaimer when purchasing the retro fit kit to circumvent the BS. If its stupid expensive though ill just pass. I probably would not want to spend over 1500-2k for entire retro fir kit your already in trolling motor territory definitely needs to be 12v not some wired crap that requires a proprietary battery
What are your thoughts on the ePDL+ being retrofitted?
You’re 100% right that Old Town won’t sell a retrofit.
I’m sure they have tons of reasons.

Sounds like a quality setup.
awesome video!
Thanks for watching!
Keep on keeping it real. Love your channel. I agree that no retro kit is ever coming
Agree with you Nick.
Thanks for watching, Tom.

That may be part of it but I promise you the majority of people would install the system incorrectly and destroy their kayaks.
They could make a killing if they did, but like you said, they need to sell kayaks more than retrofit kits. just to think, I sold my predator last year.. sigh.. oh well, glad someone else is dealing with that heavy kayak.
It’s crazy to think it’s not even heavy compared to the kayaks that are being produced these days.

You’ve lost weight. You look great
Nic if may 106 has good rails behind my seat I am golden for mounting my Newport 36 lbs thrust trolling motor will be fantastic
I’m assuming eventually OT will make a ePDL version for the Sportsman series. Then I might seriously buy one…well, depending on how much it will cost.
The Bigwater is part of the Sportsman series.
@@NavarreKayakFishing basically I was referring towards the 120 n 106 PDLS 👍🤡👍

1000% CORRECT on the retro-fit kits !!!!

That could be a smart option for them but it would be an expensive follow up purchase for a consumer.
It just want a way to install a motor on the center back of my predator pdl without replacing the rudder

EPDL is $7999.00 in Canada

If you do the math and PDL drive is $1300. That makes the hull $2000. That would make the ePDL+ and battery $4000
@@NavarreKayakFishing ya I would for sure pass at that price. Hope all is doing good and preparing for a good turkey day y’all’s way.
@mustangjames3962 thanks! I hope you get to enjoy the holidays as well.
@@NavarreKayakFishing yes sir much love brother. 😊
Price point is ridiculous
It is too dame expensive to buy Old Towne min Kota drive
Real men don’t read directions 🤠
That’s a fact!
