First time using Newport NK180 motor on my Oldtown 120 PDL kayak, works great!!
Summary of my first-time use on the 120PDL:
Top speed fully loaded: 4.37 MPH
Average speed at 70% throttle: 3.7 MPH
Estimated 24V 50Ah Lithium battery life at 70% throttle: 4.5 hours
Approximate range at 70% throttle cruise speed: 16+ miles
Runs very straight and turns fine with the PDL original rudder.
NK180 runs much faster and quieter than my Bixpy J-2
i just got the nk180 too, installed, will try it soon😀
The good thing is you will get the setup down to a science and will reduce the time getting on the water. Enjoy it!
Thanks for the vid. I just don't know about having to manage all the wires and strings. Makes me want to cough up the extra money for the Bixpy
The pdl is a drag on your speed. I converted my pdl using a minn Kota in its place and was able to maitain 4.5 mph. My battery would run two days at 3/4 throttle going back and forth across the lake. during testing.
great video!!! where is locate this launch ramp? also why are you carrying the bixpy remote controller?
It is Matheson Hammock Park in Miami. I also have a Bixpy motor and always have the remote attached on lifejacket so I don't forget😀.
Do you think the NK 300 would be way to much torque and speed for the 120? Im debating on getting g it over the 180 pro for my PDL.
I think NK300 is heavier but if you don't mind the extra weight, NK300 is a lot faster.
Are you going to make a video on the nk180 on the pelican getaway?
I might try next time. If I do, will share some videos here.
i am looking forward to that. @@mayskyfishing8501 going to be crazy how fast that thing can go.
I got the 136 auto.
I was kind of regretting not doing this because of the pedal backup, it's a bear to paddle.
Now they have a pedal motor drive much like electric bikes, Going to be 7K I think ,so much for that.
Wonder what speed/range you would get with a plug in your pedal hole?
It can go close to 5 mph with a drive insert plate.
Also I have found that my distance is almost 40% farther at a reduced throttle !!!@@mayskyfishing8501
I’m planning to put one of these on the back of my ap120
So you burned through the whole battery at 70% throttle after 4.5 hours?
I've got a NK180 and Newport 24v 50AH in my garage right now, waiting on ordering the mounting hardware for my PA14 360 then I'm off to the races. The Oldtown 120 PDL is similar in weight in my Hobie so I expect similar performance.
You are using the rudder for steering?
Yes, I still use the original rudder for steering. Works great. No problems at all.
What mount did you use?
Offset Power Pole Mounting Plate from Navarre@@BamaBassCatcher99
Perfect. Anything else needed for the install?
Nothing else, even the offset plate is optional, you can add the bracket directly to the power pole mount on your kayak. Offside plate brings the motor closer to the center for about 4-5 inches but not a big difference though. @@BamaBassCatcher99
