    You can get the NKS-180 with an aftermarket 1200wh battery for a lower price with twice the power and range. I had the bixpy and water got in the battery. They blamed me saying I abused it so if they're not going to honor their warranty, I decided to open it and check why it leaks. It turns out to be a bad rubber seal so I told Bixpy and they said they won't honor the warranty because I opened the battery.

    • @rjmfishtales

      You are right. I would have sent it to them without opening it to see what they would say and have done.

    Point A to Point B on a PA14 360 with the Bixpy has proven to be a lightweight and efficient solution for me. And the good news is that Bixpy stands behind their product.

      No problem. I did do an update video recently too. The cold does effect the battery though. Keep that in mind. It was my own mistake for not reading and doing more research. If you go fishing under 32 degrees it will just beep and not work. FYI.

    The Bixpy is way too slow! Battery doesn't last long either. I was extremely disappointed. I sold it and bought myself a side mounted simple Newport motor. You can then get yourself a high capacity 12 V lithium battery.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have an Xi3 on my 106 and it works great . However the simplicity, lightweight and quality of the Bixby makes me question whether it would be a better choice for my fishing style. Great and honest review

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The i3 is an awesome motor setup. If your 106 is not the pedal version i would say no, not unless you stay under a 10 mile range most likely. Bixpy is simple and a good price, but they definitely could use a better AH battery for longer life. I think they are coming out with bigger battery soon. I have done an update video since this one and found one flaw. Besides that, it has been working great.

    Hey bro, love my Bixpy. My 1st kayak Hoodoo Tempest 120 pdl. My 2nd Oldtown 120 pdl. My new boat which I love is my 23' Hoodoo impulse 120, fin drive. I had the original J2 Bixpy on my Oldtown, and sold that setup to my best friend. Avg speed was 3.5 to 4.5 Conditions. On my new Impulse I bought the PP-768, And wanted the gravity rudder. It's going on this weekend. The 768 runs over 3 hrs at speed 13, and it moves over 5.5mph depending on your setup. I'm 5ft 7 158 lbs, and my vessel has all the toys. Speeds 7 to 8 will last 24 hrs or longer. I rinse my yak after every trip, and she goes in my garage. I have heard Bixpy is coming out with a 2hp jet motor. My kayak is motor ready for an NK, Torqueedo, and my bow can take the Xi3. What I love about the Bixpy, is when it arrives, you need nothing. It's all there. Complete kit, pull cord, cleet, hardware. It's $300 more and I know I'll love it. And if you keep your small battery, you'll have more battery life than you'll need. Stay safe bro. 🌊 🎣 🛶

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is cool. Sounds like you have a cool setup. Bixpy just came out with a bigger capacity battery and just an aluminum 1hp motor and smaller. I was surprised they didn’t go bigger to a 2HP. Oh well. One day as I get older I may get a torqeedo but for now we are happy with the Bixpy. Could use a tad longer battery life out of the current size. You stay safe as well!

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want more speed and longer run time and I would go with the NK-180. The main reason I went with bixpy with the Hobie is I do not want foot steering. Strong motors you will have to do foot controls,rudder won’t handle it. I like simplicity, open deck etc. If I didn’t have a Hobie I would have no problem doing foot controls on any other kayak. But with a pedal drive I don’t want more foot stuff in my way. If I continue using Hobie and Bixpy does not get bigger batteries in the future, I will have to decide then. But if you have a Hobie, me personally I believe the Motorguide is the better choice. Keep battery in the rear to offset weight. Keeps deck all stock and you can just pop in the fins when ever you want. Sick back and use the remote.

    • @richardscott4082
      @richardscott4082 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your in-depth reply. Because of what you wrote about the foot control issue with the stronger motor, I just bought the J2. I have a Hobie Compass and like using the the hand-controlled rudder with a simple open deck as you said. Also, the J2 is only 10 pounds versus about 50 for the NK-180 with 24volt 50-amp lithium battery. Take care on your kayak journeys, and again thank-you so much for helping me make this decision!

Everybody in my family is very very helpful with me & I am Bless for that. The doctor just wants to be extra careful Since it's so close to my spinal cord and me being a big guy. It was funny because the doctor thought that my feet were Swollen & I had to tell him that I had very very extremely wide feet 🦶 with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across. He was so shock about how wide my feet 🦶 was. He doesn't want me to wear shoes at all that have Arched support in them. But the last time I took it out it lasted 5 hours then vibrated so bad it wouldn't work so I had to paddle back. And it's only the 4th time using it. The guy who sold it to me thinks it's an electrical connection issue. We shall see

      Could be a bad bearing or propeller. As long as they replace it! There should be no warranty issues with that. They should give you a new motor. I bought mine directly from Bixpy. So far so good. Only issue I have, and it’s my own fault for not looking into motor operating temp, or battery temp, is when I go out on the water below 32 degrees it doesn’t work till it warms up. So if it’s a cold day and not going to warm up I have no motor. Maybe they will get a better battery one day that can operate at least down to zero to cover the ones who use it all year around. Keep me posted on what they do for you.

    Did you take your rudder out?

      No sir. I used the rudder for steering and kept the motor fixed with their motor mount setup. I have an install video of the motor itself. See below.

    Appreciate the review. How's the motor do if I am fishing a shallow river with sections of logs and rocks? Will it kick back like the Hobie peddle fins? Also, is that a power cord you are running to your GoPro? Do you use their voice command feature to power it on/off? Thx.

      Yea it will kick up over logs and rocks. I would watch hitting rocks though if possible. That may crack housing.
      Yes I have a power cord running to GoPro from my Nocqua battery. Yes I use a voice command to record and stop recording. It stays on all day. Never shut off till end of the day.

      Appreciate the feedback. Your kayak an Outback Mirage? The yak attack camera pole require Hobie adapters? Thanks again.

      I have a walk through video on my kayak too and if you watch the kayak accessory one I did a few weeks back you can see how I have everything. It’s a Hobie PA 14. Camera pole mounted to track I put on kayak.

      You have to watch for shallow water but it is tough and can take a hit.

      Yes sir. It releases from the plastic clip and kicks up. I pushed it to its limits. It’s been good so far.

    Has the noise or loudness affected you?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t bother me at all. You get use to it and seems normal. The new one coming out is suppose to be quieter. Once I start fishing i just use the fins on kayak. I use this motor to get to point a to b

    Can I use this motor in the salt water?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can use it in fresh and saltwater. Just make sure you rinse it off with fresh water when you are done with it. I have fished 3 days straight in saltwater and never rinsed it, but it was fine. Just try to rinse it off as much as possible. Also make sure you keep dielectric grease in plug ends if you are going to be around saltwater a lot.
