    Great job my friend. I finally was able to purchase my J2 bixpy, for my 120 pdl. However I wanted the bixpy on my rudder system. My brother has the same boat. Myself at 5ft 7 151 lbs, only in my 2nd season, I achieved 4.5 to 5.3 mph. I fish large lakes and resevoirs. But that bixpy complete kit is so perfect for kayaks. At 9lbs, and recieving a lithium, waterproof floating motor, kill switch. Well worth the $$. Especially when you also can pedal very lightly, keeping the bixoy on speed 6 to 8 last all day long. Allowing you to run full speed back to the launch. 🎣 🙏 💥💯

      Pretty impressive speeds! I wondered what it could achieve in the rear position. Thanks for sharing. It is definitely a light weight killer!

    Not being critical but there are a few things I would do different. 1. I would remove the wire pins from the plug noting the position of the wires to drill a hole just big enough for the wire. 2. I would locate the hole for the wire so it is not centered with the latch for the plate. 3. I would then use black silicone to seal the wire. 4. I would space the bottom plate enough to make the Bixpy the same depth from the bottom from the boat as the prop drive so turbulence is not a problem. 5. I would put the nuts on the bottom so the screws are snag on anything (figure you already did that though). Thanks for the video it is awesome research and development work.

    I spoke with Bixpy & they told me that they Are currently working on a straight drop in Trolling Motor so you can just pull out the PDL & drop in the Bixby.
    That's what I'm looking for. Or a drop in Trolling Motor without rigging everything myself.
    Just a straight drop in replacement is what I want

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know. Even with a drop in system, it is kind of a pain to store it/move it around while you're in the yak. That's my biggest complaint with the setup you see in this video.

    Riverman how did it handle out in the water? Curious if you made any changes to be able to remove it when you're getting in shallow water.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't made any changes - it's super easy to pop out. When I know I'll need to take it out I just pull it out, flip it upside down, and put it behind my seat. It's a little annoying to do with my pedal drive in but generally if I'm using it, it's not a shallow water or weedy situation so there is only a need to put it in and take it out once after transiting.

    Would you do anything different now that you’ve used it quite a bit? Great vid btw!!

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, no. The only minor change I may make is just filling the hole I had to make for the cord to pass through. I've just been too lazy to shape some rubber that will fit in there. This would reduce the water coming in but it normally doesn't bother me as I'm fine with wet feet in the warmer months and wear waterproof boots when I don't want to get my feet wet.

    Was wondering if you tested with the pdl with the motor at the same time. Like being able to switch between the pdl and the Bixpy when necessary. Does the plate and the motor size cause issues with storage like finding a place to store it in the yak when your full of gear already.
    Thanks.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's how I normally use it. It is pretty easy to swap in and out. I usually just turn the plate on its back with the motor up and store it behind the seat while the battery is under the seat. If you look at my video where I get caught in a storm on Lake Michigan you can briefly see how I store/put the Bixpy in.

  • @Cooklo5970
    @Cooklo5970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    question for you..... how is the noise when running it in low speeds? I have heard from others the Bixpy F 2 is very noise what do you think with yours? Great vid!

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly haven't noticed it. I don't run it at low speed too much but when I do it doesn't jump out at me as being different than the other speeds.

    Great idea my man! How did sea trials go!?

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great. The only thing I would like to improve is the amount of water that comes in through the hole that the cord runs through. The PDL is already a wet kayak so it doesn't make a big difference but I would just like a little less come through.

      @@RivermanTV- Good point. I’ll try to come up with a good Grommet or plug for that area. I have the Predator so I’m also exploring options for how to secure the front of the pod. • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On calm water it usually gets 3.3-3.5 mph. With wind or current with you, it can go over 4. And likewise, less than 3 with current and wind in your face.

    Nice mod work here!
    Too bad the Bixpy is slow and overpriced.
    I would have just done a trolling motor there instead, much better bang for the buck.
    I am currently trying to figure out how to put an Autopilot unit from the Old Town Autopilot kayak in my OT 120 PDL drive hole.
    They made this unit so proprietary that it is difficult to mod it to fit and be stable but I am working on it, slowly.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree in large part but there is something to be said about its small footprint and light weight. It has a few applications but I prefer a motor with the power to cut through debris in the water without getting choked out. That's the biggest reason I went to a Newport NK-180 mounted on the rear. I also hate giving up my pedals when fishing.

    • @riverpirate1022
      @riverpirate1022 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RivermanTV- I can see the appeal for the weight and small size, but that always equals less power, and that's never good lol.
      I also want to have my PDL drive with me as a backup, not interested in being stranded when my motor dies for whatever reason lol.
      How do you like the nk 180?
      I am dreaming of the money to buy a torqeedo 1103 and 2 big batteries lol.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@riverpirate1022 I love the NK180. Plenty of power for me and I love that I can use my own battery setup instead of having to buy proprietary. The torqeedos are cool but so dang expensive.I think I'm probably going to buy myself a second battery this winter for the Newport.

    • @riverpirate1022
      @riverpirate1022 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RivermanTV- Yea the more I think about it and research, I am going to aim for the NK180. I just fish a lot of shallow slow/medium rivers here in VA and would LOVE the power of the Torqeedo 1103 but its way outa my budget unless i get a sweet deal on a used one on FB lol.
      Looks like the NK180 will get me about 1mph more than a decent trolling motor rear mod, but at almost triple the cost lol.
      It's insane how much companies want for these brushless motors, I fly electric brushless RC airplanes and there not this expensive in most cases. The batteries I kind of understand, lipos take alot of rare earth materials to make.
