Best effort by any manufacturer to bring a well thought out retro looking bike without a matching stratospheric price tag! Excellent 44Toother review as usual Boothy 😎
I somewhat agree but they would have to make it even more expensive. Now you can buy the bike, ride it for a year and then order the race package for example. But yea, I do agree, it sure makes it looks real proper.
You make an interesting point. I initially thought that this would be targeting older riders like me that grew up on 80s and 90s bikes, and it certainly will, but you may be on to something with younger riders also finding this appealing; the Gen Z types that are fueling vinyl album sales, wearing their Zeppelin t-shirts, looking back to previous eras with a nostalgia for something they didn't get to experience.
I think this misunderstands why Gen Z likes retro stuff. It's a rejection of mass produced utilitarian stuff. It's a desire to own something unique with a story behind it. This bike doesn't really do that.
"It wasn't like octopus and chips " They are such heathens over there. Not having octopus with chips is like not having wagyu steak with tomato ketchup.
Honestly Boothy, you're great at this. Started with a casual vlogging style, charismatic, interesting, and entertaining. Final piece to the camera felt like it could either have been watched or read in article, articulate, informative, opinionated. Most other reviewers round out with something that seems very much for a magazine but is lifeless on camera. This brought both worlds together flawlessly. Top job! Can't wait for the next Boothy vid 👍
Loved the old analogue foam backed gauges which made the conversion to fully race mode easier by removing the speedo clock, taking all the plastic fairings off and replacing them with fibreglass after all the lights and mirrors have also been removed. Thinking 1988 - 1998 RGV-250’s in (for me) the Australian 250 cc Production Series, when these were the only mods you could make (apart from using different sprockets per each track). Geared longer, combined with an uphill start on the grid at PI just made the first corner a bit more “entertaining” especially if you bogged the little 2 strokes down when the lights turned green.
Boothy, best of all in this video is hearing your voice together with the sound of a motorbike. I'm so glad for you, getting back on bikes, I can't even tell. Great bloke you are, inspiration for all the ones (including myself), who are struggling in life to never give up. Take care of you!
Boothy is a f great presenter. When I watch his reviews I know that I'm hearing 100% authentic information from an Isle of Man racer. It gives me chills every time. 44 teeth Rocks. Frontiness is a word.
Boothy - great review. Bang on with your observations. Like you, I also need to find 12.5K reasons to buy iy. Its a belter and good on Yamaha for building it
I love this. I own a gen 1 XSR900 (19) plate with a Velocity Moto 900LC kit on it and upgraded suspension and its the best bike (of 30 or so) that I've ever owned, Nice to know there's an upgrade path if I ever feel the need to sell it. The GP looks amazing, bet no-one wanted the black one lol Props to Boothy, great to have him back.
That is basically the bike I've been waiting for. Time to sell all my leaky old TL's and ZX7R's and the like. I love them but I just want to get in the garage and take the bike out when the sun pops out, not have to fanny about wondering if it's going to start for 2 hours, by which time the suns gone and I can't be arsed any more. I need to make one of these happen
Dudes like I am with steps, I remember the days I skipped steps the whole way up and down to sometimes. That all ended with my first ACL major tear and meniscus damage. I’ve never fully recovered and can never run again. I learned that when I saw my wife fall and ran to help her up and screwed my knee up for a few weeks doing so.
Great review and love this bike - it strikes me as a proper passion project and not just a cynical marketing exercise. Little details that will cost a load of money but really make it like the screen frame etc
Great test Boothy, I am with you 100% about these interfering modes on modern bikes. I paid over £300 for track mode on my SDR and thats where it stays rain or shine. Having said that my teenage daughter is dying for a go so I will be utilizing rain mode briefly, gorgeous looking retro machine and who doesn't love Neil Mac Kenzie
Thanks Boothy for answering my one question about the riding position. Not going to be suitable for me. Sucks being old. Going to have to settle for MT09. Cheers mate.
“I’m shit around right corners, prefer the left one” - Love it! As you’d still be quicker around right corners than 99.9% of all road riders, luckily Philip Island Raceway was my home racetrack back in the day! As I understand.
I genuinely think this is such a cool looking bike - the yellow/red/white colour scheme is immense compared to the black/grey, but I think there may be some scope for other retro colours later on...
Spent more time looking at the leathers than the bike I think 😂 fancy! Great to see Boothy back on the channel, first class. Cheers lads, looks an interesting bike for sure. Be interested to see if they bring out the R9 now or just stick with this, an R9 would be very similar by the sounds of it.
I was searching for the 44t review already some weeks ago. Others did it first, but that doesn´t count. Right on the spot as usual. Boothy, i would not know why i need MCN and others when i can have you talk me through it.
Nice review Boothy, and I'm with you on those bar end mirrors 😞 If I bought one those would have to come off and some more retro style fairing mounted mirrors found.
Happy this bike exists because I’d wager on a spreadsheet it probably wouldn’t make as much sense. Funny enough the only design cue I really don’t like on the bikes that inspired this is the front fairing bracket 😂.
Only things I don’t really like about this bike are, should be fully faired, proper mirrors and longer seat hump otherwise very RD 500 looking (which is not a bad thing)
Boothy when you mentioned you wanting to become and endurance racer i got flashbacks tot those 125cc 24h race videos you guys did. Any chance we'll see any of those again this year? They were among the best of all😂
Really like this bike from Yamaha. I think it would've been a lot cooler with an old school dash like the ones on the old rgv's a bit like Kawasaki's z900rs. Not a fan of these modern TFT screens.
Nice review sir, appreciate you leave all the random general comments in rather than taking them out, makes it feel like an actual ride rather sterile review
Looks are subjective. I'm late 20s and this bike looks hideous to me. But I never pined after bikes 90s bikes when I was a kid. I wish theyd just release an R9 supersport. All black no gimmicks.
they should have done the mirrors like the 90s fzr400 , would have completed the look, hopefully they do more bikes like this with 90s styling cues. i like the tzr style bolted on front side fairings too! and the fzr600 single daytime running light. the lower fairing/bellypan would be cooler as a standard item.
I hope this message gets to boothy

Wish they had put the FZR's twin headlights in tho, but hats off to Yamaha for actually offering this in the first place.
I love this but yeah some big round lights would look good too
Would have been badass.
I think it would cool too but that’s the thing, it’s part FZR, part TZR, part TRX, part YZF500. The headlight feels very TZR250 to me!!
That would've been perfect, combo of GP and endurance racer.
@@patw9175 I've always preferred twin headlights on a bike, makes night riding less stressful too, if one bulb blows, you still have some light.
Man the "race package" should be standard. It makes the bike look whole.
I somewhat agree but they would have to make it even more expensive. Now you can buy the bike, ride it for a year and then order the race package for example. But yea, I do agree, it sure makes it looks real proper.
I like the 90's crashed sportsbike look. The end can is a necessary detail tho.
I think the can and fairing lowers look munted. Much better with a half fairing

Very nice presentation. When I had my FJ-09 I thought this motor would be good in a sportier package. I’m inclined to think, this’ll do!
I think the rims on the malboro one should have been done black like the Rainey era to make it look a bit more badass, still looks great though

Some analogue clocks would look mint of this.
