Pakistan crash: Journalist describes horrific scene in Karachi following plane crash

Dozens have been killed after a passenger plane crashed near Karachi Airport in Pakistan.
Pakistan International Airlines flight PK303 was on its final approach to the runway after making the 90-minute journey from the eastern city of Lahore when it crashed into buildings.
Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar, speaking from the crash site, said all 98 passengers and crew on board had been killed, but civil aviation officials later said at least two people survived.
Mr Akhtar said at least five or six houses were destroyed in the crash, but it was not immediately known how many casualties there were in the residential area.

They probably had landing gear issues , best case was to land it in a residential area for buildings to reduce its impact rather than plunging to the ground and total wrecking it and how tf do you think a landing gear's gonna help in a fully residential area , not that there's a clear lane for the gears to touch the ground 🙂. Be more humane and positive , being toxic and judgemental won't bring you far and make you better

He was calm likely because he was too shamed and embarrassed of what he was hiding from ATC.
He initially touched down on the runway without it’s landing gear down...both engines were then damaged from scraping along the runway.
So on his second landing attempt both engines failed from previous damage.
When he noticed he didn’t have wheels down the first time he stupidly tried to regain 3k feet instead of take the shame of a belly land.
Pilot was probably too embarrassed to tell ATC that he touched down without wheels down the first time. Or the cut that out from traffic recording. ?

It’s the pilot’s job in these situation to cause little damage to the civilians population below. To find somewhere safe or somewhere where the devastation might not be much.

Yeah the pilot warned of engine problems because he tried to land on the first approach with no gear down and scrapped the engines on the runway severely damaging them to the point that they both failed causing the crash.

They came in without the gear down and warning alarm going off, touched down on the engines, damaging them, somehow managed to get airborne, lost both engines while doing a go-around and finally crashed.

I think it is very very risky to fly in the extreme heat of May. I am sorry for the great loss of lives. Heat is such a factor consideration, for engine, rubber tires, any metal parts of a plane are very susceptible to overheat and destruction. So Very Sad. Flights should stay grounded for until temperature is way less, (in about a month). It's ridiculous to put lives at risk in this hellish heat.

This plane crashed hardly before 0.5 to 1Km from the landing strip or runway.
Blancolirio just posted analysis with a picture someone took just before the crash. It looks like both engines were damaged during the first attempted landing..gear not deployed or not all the way extended..have to wait and see what investigatiin reveals...sad day.

Well it doesn't sound like pilot error at this stage so given where this occurred that probably just leaves a maintenance issue and cutting costs due to the coronavirus airline cash crisis.
Yama Satru the pilot could have glided the plane if he wasn’t near the ground but since the houses where the plane crashed was right next to the airport landing sight the plane was too low to glide.

This is some sort of dark year for aviation. First with the Iran shoot down, then two crashes in the Canadian Armed Forces, and then this. Truly terrifying. At this pint we can’t even mourn fast enough.

Sadly unfortunate, this is. However, my first thought goes to maintenance, or lack thereof.
It’s always sad to see people die in a tragedy. I am sure the pilot did his best. But with both engines gone and no altitude to play with he knew it was going to crash. Yet he remained so calm. Salute him.
The people on board, first saw the death from so near and then embraced it. So much of mental and physical trauma they went through before dying. I can feel the pain in the pilot's voice 💔💔💔 May Allah save the whole humanity from such a terrible death.
