I have loved your song, "The last farwell" and you for a very long time.. I am (80) yrs. old ....love listening to this song in the evening...it helps me relax and enjoy the evening...RIP Sweet Roger...Sunset, South Carolina
Didnt know that!! when I was growing up in high school everyone was listening to AC/DC or led zep and there I was with my Roger Whittaker and Neil Diamond albums! RIP!!
Sought this out after hearing that Roger had sadly passed away today. I remember my grandmother playing his music when I was a child, such a wonderful voice, all about talent and he made it look effortless.
This is what you call TALENT folks! No fancy synthesizers or sampling going on here. This is just a beautiful song being sung by a great artist with a gorgeous voice.
As a small child in early 70s Roger & Gilbert O' Sullivan were some of my first music memories .... Am deeply saddened by the death of Roger Whittaker what a great singer and writer his kind won't be seen again RESPECT ..... May he RIP 😞🙏➕️........
❤My first memory of any song was of this song. Me and my Sister aged 3 and 4 years old grew up in an orphanage in London in the early 1970s and the ladies who worked there used to sing it to the kids when it was on the radio. R.I.P. Thank You
Strange, I have listened to this 100’s of times but never until tonight heard the beautiful lyrics. You sing so beautifully Roger and it has cast my mind back to the many wonderful sea-fairing men and women that I have known who have sadly passed over the bar. Brought a tear to my eye. RIP and thank you for the memories
Rest in peace sir. I just heard you on the radio and came to search you on TH-cam only to realise you passed away revently. My heart felt it. Im saddened by this. Sleep well Mr Whittaker
This song was one of the great 'sleeper' hits of pop music. Recorded as an album track in 1971 it was 'discovered' by an American lady in 1975 and went on to become only one of thirty singles to sell over twelve million copies. Roger Whittaker will 'God willing' celebrate his 86th birthday next month (March 2022) A great talent who has had hits in almost every country in the world at one time or another. Many thanks for posting.
I had the opportunity to meet Roger in the early 1980s when he came to Maine to open the new concert hall in Bangor ... we had a great chat about his home country of Nigeria. I also have good memories of how that country took us in when we were evacuating from Ethiopia when Hallie Sallasie was dethroned ... God bless those warm people of Kenya. Later, in the late 90's, I saw Roger again in Asheville, North Carolina and we renewed our old relationship. Let's all remember we had some time with Roger ... and sing along with the Old East African Railroad and Harbor. Ken Jones ... oh, I am 91 years old andwouldd love to hear from you
What a classic performance. Compared this to his 1988 Jerry Lewis Marathon performance and this one is by far better. RIP Roger - you were a good man and a great singer who gave so many the pleasure of your voice
As I was driving home tonight, I heard this song on AM radio. Reminded me of the old days. I'm a classic rock and pop listener. But I know when a great song moves me. Thanks for this.
Roger Whittaker: has to be one of THE greatest male voice's, EVER! I first heard him first in 1975. And I couldn't imagine such a voice. And every song since, he has sang; I have loved it. Also, he was one of the most friendly person around. May Jesus rest his precious Soul.
The first time I heard this wonderful song, I was on a forty-eight foot Swan, called Content III, racing through the Bermuda triangle with my cousin, Greg Tuxworth, the world's greatest Skipper. Great memories.
So so good. One of the best. From a time you earned your star with hard work over many years, natural talent , ability to entertain. A master of his craft. A Gold Star.
So ein wunderschönes Lied. Ich kenne es schon lange.
RIP Roger. I wish I were again in a world where songs like this were big hits.
Now it‘s the last farewell to you. You made the world a bit better with your songs. RIP.
