Roger Whittaker's live performance in Canada. This performance was with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Jubilee Auditorium on September 20th, 1976
Such a rare talent… not only was he a beautiful singer and songwriter but, also a great entertainer and whistler!… his whistling talent was undeniable and so layered!… very difficult to be sure! RIP good sir!! Thank you for your wonderful music and amazing talent all around!! 🙏❤️
I did some work in this man's house, he is genuinely a nice man and so is his wife. I helped restore his staircase and I could hear him often around the house whistling like different types of birds.
I would love to know his wife to let her know, her and Rodger helped save my life! In 1983 I was given 2 months to live, his Music helped save my life, when he sang about the mountains, I would see myself climbing them, when he sang about the ocean, I would see myself out in the ocean trying to row back to shore! It saved my life! People need to know Right Music saves lives,❤ WRONG music can kill quicker!
I will never forget Rodger, with his music it gave me the strength to fight, when in 1983 the Doctors gave me 2 months to live, I am still here. I beat the odds.
@thekaizen-sh1mq when he sang about the ocean, I would envision myself out in a row boat rowing back to shore, when he sang about the mountains, I would envision myself to climb the mountains, this is what kept me fighting, and if I did it, then others can beat it to, whatever their situation is!
You're not alone, good sir. Here in Pakistan, I got his first cassette back in 1980. And got teary-eyed many a time. Especially when he sang The River Lady because of my love for old machinery and derelict hulks.
My mom used to play Roger Whitaker all the time when I was a kid. She loved his music. I am sitting by her bedside in the hospital right now, and we are getting near the time to tell her goodbye. What a wonderful thing TH-cam is, as I have a playlist playing of his works for her. His songs are so perfect for right now, and Durham Town and Last Farewell are so fitting. Momma, I love you. And will see you again down the road.
My nearly 4 year old grandson has just learnt to whistle so I played him the Mexican Whistler - he loved it - and then had a look at this one. We played it 4 times today. He is entranced, as am I. Brilliant! Thanks for posting.
I saw him at Buxton Civic Centre in 1972. He was really showboating with the whistling but sadly, during one song, his lower lip burst. Despite this, he finished the song with blood pouring down his face and saturating his shirt. A 5 minute break whilst he was bandaged up then he was back on stage. True pro.
It thrills me to say that I was at THIS concert back in 1976! A couple of tidbits about this video and the concert....One day I was sitting at home and I wanted to watch/listen to a Roger Whittaker song. So of course I went to TH-cam to find one. Well, THIS video was the one I found! So as I was watching it, I thought, "Well, that's funny, he's telling the same joke that he told at the concert that I was at, AND he's even wearing the same jacket! But then I thought, well sure, he performs all over the world, and so he could tell the same joke LOTS of times and even wear the same clothes....... Long story short, imagine my surprise when I read the writeup telling where this concert was held!!! I wrote the lady that posted it and told her that I was there! She wrote back to tell me that she was the girl in the red sweater sitting in the front row, just to Roger's left! She also told me that she got the clip from the DVD that was sold later! Well, I managed to find the out of print DVD and in fact bought 2 of them, and gave the other one to the couple that took me to the concert! Great memories and it was my first concert as well!!! May he Rest in Peace. He will never be forgotten!
I’m now 68, but remember him coming to Canada, and in Québec singing his songs. I was a teenager then. He had French versions of Durham Town and didn’t miss any chance of watching TV when appeared with Ginette Reno, who is considered royalty. I only discovered thru TH-cam that he had a brief variety show in the UK. He was a great entertainer, mesmerizing. Like ABBA says…Thank you for the music Roger.
NEVER SAW ANYTHING SO BEAUTIFUL LIKE THAT! WONDERFUL, REALLY!!! iT IS AN ART THAT, UNFORTUNATELY FEW PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO WHISTLE! I I FIND IT VERY RELAXING AND ENJOYABLE! THANK YOU TO EVERY ONE!
I'm not sure if it was this particular clip or not, but one day, I decided that I wanted to hear one of his songs. I found a clip of him where he does "Change Lip" Turns out that I was at this CONCERT!!! 1976!! And the young lady that posted the video was at the concert too!!!! I wrote t. o her and she told me that she was sitting in the front row, wearing a red sweater. She told me that there was a DVD of the concert out! I got one!!
The term " legend" is thrown around way too easily. Fancy having that much talent ,wisdom and humility ... Roger is a legend in the true sense of the word.
Changing never go bee bee garbeled Changing never go bee bee garbeled Bimset never go bee bee garbeled, no land for govenor grey. Alright? Thats wonderful. (x2) - crazy whistleing- Changing never go bee bee garbeled Changing never go bee bee garbeled Bimset never go bee bee garbeled, no land for govenor grey. Khaki pride. In case you were looking for the official lyrics. The lyrics themselves go quite deep I think. It's a song you have to hear several times to understand the true message.
I see your point...but do you see the point of those people who consider themselves African but... unfortunately.....are white? So therefore must be "bad"...in the eyes of the ignorant. Mmm?
I could whistle like this in my younger days but I got a serious throat infection in my later years and I could no longer do this😔 But I still have this GREAT MAN to listen to. Strangely NO ONE has ever covered this tune.....HMMM I WONDER WHY😂🤣😂🤣😅
Roger is totally unique and absolutely brilliant too... Yay, I've been looking for this for ages, thank youtube, you have made a silver nanny very happy indeed :0)x Definitely worth 5*****'s
RIP legend. One of the most talented musician ever.
Such a rare talent… not only was he a beautiful singer and songwriter but, also a great entertainer and whistler!… his whistling talent was undeniable and so layered!… very difficult to be sure!

the opposite of modern day "talent"

Glad to hear you made it Renee! Well done!

RIP Roger, this clip never fails to make me smile. Unlike some in that audience.
RIP. Amazing talent - will be sorely missed.
Love this guy, more talent then we appreciate.
Johnny Smith played
One stool, one guitar and a captive audience of thousands. brilliant!
How can a guy sitting on a stool whistling this tune bring tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat
You're not alone, good sir. Here in Pakistan, I got his first cassette back in 1980. And got teary-eyed many a time. Especially when he sang The River Lady because of my love for old machinery and derelict hulks.
Everything I hear him sing The Last Farewell makes me cry too😢❤
@@victoriarogers3977 You bet! The Last Farewell, too. And how can we forget Why, his lament for us killing the Earth.
My mom used to play Roger Whitaker all the time when I was a kid. She loved his music.

I was brought upon Rodger whittaker and still think he has the best voice in the world and is an amazing talent.

Despite this, he finished the song with blood pouring down his face and saturating his shirt. A 5 minute break whilst he was bandaged up then he was back on stage. True pro.

Whittaker has an interesting background (Kenya, Britain etc.) ...and an apparent knack for languages. His German is pretty good in other videos.
The term " legend" is thrown around way too easily.
Fancy having that much talent ,wisdom and humility ...
Roger is a legend in the true sense of the word.

Una gran estrella musical, y uno de los mejores silbadores de la historia , sino el mejor.
I love Roger Whittaker's version of the famous songs by the other singers and songwriters.
Usually they are better.
