DUETS - SERIES Val joins Roger LIVE on The Val Doonican Music Show in 1984 as he runs through a medley of his hit songs. The Last Farewell, Durham Town and The Mexican Whistler are included.
Well… a wonderful breeze from the past…. Both Val Doonican and Roger Whittaker have passed on from this mortal world, and I for one miss their old world charm
The sad recent passing of Roger Whittaker and that of Val Doonican several years ago leaves a huge void in the wonderful, but now forgotten, music of yesteryear of which they were a big part. They are both unforgettable.
I hope that the people who were there watching this live fully appreciate the sheer magnitude of what they're seeing and hearing. Legends doing what what they do best, being masters of their craft . I'm so glad I stumbled on this video, what a treat 😊
They ply their craft so beautifully and make it appear effortless. When I was young I never missed The Val Dominican Show. It was pure pure excellent entertainment. What a pro and a gentleman as is Roger Whittaker. It’s seems these days that there has to be an “edge; cynicism, ATTITUDE” in all entertainment plus ear shattering and vocal acrobatics???!!! In some areas it has a place sometimes but PLEASE not all the time. Not necessary. We need these excellent entertainment/variety shows to return!!! I’m fed up of the incessant talent shows that swamp the world now, mostly singing. This is deemed our variety now. I’ve turned them off for a long time and look for the greats on TH-cam. Btw did you know that Val was a wonderful artist too. You can find his art on TH-cam. Sorry about that; I needed to get that off of my chest. 🤗🥰
They will both be sorely missed to my mind, my favourites for certain! Don’t they harmonise brilliantly too! 😊😊 Rest In Peace Roger and Val, we loved you then and still do now!😊
I grew up listening to these guys and at the grand old age I am at i still listen to them such wonderful guys in harmony and Roger's whistling just knocks it out the park as they say , even as a kid I loved watching the Val Doonican show on a Black and White TV that was no bigger than 16" in a wooden cabinet And look at TV s nowadays take up most of one wall .
So pleased I kept all my old LP vinyl. Was only yesterday I sat and listened to Val Doonican while I enjoyed my quiet time after working all day. I'm 83 and I do volunteer work from home. Roger Whittaker is also one of my favourites I listen to a lot.
Hardcore Roger Whittaker fan here. Been to 14 of his concerts!! Roger and Val's voices blend so beautifully! Such a rich sound. They don't make singers or song like this anymore; and it's so sad. Thank God we can find quality music like this on TH-cam.
This takes me straight back to my childhood when they had wonderful family entertainment, entertainment that wasn't full of filth and bad language. We had the best of times in the 60s and 70s, enjoying the talent of the 50s on our tv screens, radios and record players coupled with the newer music of the 60s and 70s.
@@austinsouthward7208 - Roger did National Service in the Kenyan Regiment while Val was educated by the brotherhood in Eire, hence they both grew up to be GENTLEMEN. Not adulterous, drink-driving louts like McPartlin.
What great artists these wonderful men were. And this video brought a smile and a few tears. Both Whittaker and Doonican brought so much happiness to so many of my generation. Well played, M/S Whittaker and Doonican. May you forever rest in peace and happiness wherever you are.
Ah... how I remember the Halcyon Days of my childhood: where nothing base, vulgar, or violent ever intruded into our lives through the TV screen. We had Val Doonican, Morecambe and Wise, Shirley Bassey, and so many other wonderful artists in our Sitting room every night. They became part of us... and we loved them.
You don't "have" to watch it. The fact that you're willing to watch it is what has encouraged the producers to provide it for you. Ultimately, you did this!
I laughed at your comment, I think you sum up the mood of a nation of people who remember what good Saturday night television was like. Gawd Bless Ya, from all of us!
Listening to this, I'm back in my parents house in the 70's,all of us sat around the TV on a Saturday night watching decent entrainment, no effing or jeffin , no half clothed girls and no scandal around these two either.
Deeply saddened at the news of Val Doonican's death - his catchy songs 'Patrick Mcginty/Delanys Donkey and others brought laughter/tears to millions of viewers - may he bring as much love and laughter in heaven as he dI'd is on earth.
Oh my word! This takes me back to the seventies' Saturday night TV! It when the public watched professionals rather than professionals watching the public. Just brilliant.
Beautiful memories... Thanks gentlemen, both of you... My parents had all their albums... Grew up listening to the best of British, American talents of this generation... Then the Beatles appeared as we hit teenagehood... But these two talented people remain in bedded in the foundations....
I saw val donnican in concert in 1964 in Belfast and shook his hand. He was a great entertainer singer and guitarist. Can't think of anyone better. A great ambassador for ireland
Just proves how spoiled I was as a child/ teenager to be able to sit down on a Saturday evening watching wonderful shows like this with my family. Mum and dad singing along while us children ate our special Saturday supper (often a home baked cake with hot chocolate or milkshake)
Two giants of easy listening!....Roger Whittaker was a superstar in Germany and many other countries around the world, he had his last German chart hit in 2010 with a song called 'Shannon River Lady' and he played his final series of concerts in Germany in 2013 at the age 77. He now lives in France with his wife..hope he enjoys a long and happy retirement.
I didn't think that combination could possibly work but it did so marvellously and a joy to listen too. There is a deep richness in Roger Whitakers voice.
In Australia 1955, I/we went to a Val Doonican Show & Val kissed my cheek, I was 15yrs of age- & to this dayI still haven't washed that cheek! NOT that I am able to recall which cheek!!!
Totally agree with these comments, being a fan of most types of music, went looking for this after hearing `New World In The Morning' on Johnny Walker's Sunday show. This is just brilliant - you could come away on a Saturday night back then actually thinking you'd been entertained. The heads of light entertainment don't have any idea now what to give us in case they offend anyone. I don't think they could run a bath. Ant and Dec - have to agree as well - highest paid autocue readers in the history of television, probably couldn't say good morning without a script to look at first.
Always a Roger Whittaker fan, one has to respect Val Doonicans sheer musicianship - what a great combination and yes I see I've been here before with comment.
We played Rogers music at my Uncles funeral 2 months ago. I first me Uncle Jack when he was going to a R.W. concert, 1975! He married my Auntie 3 years later. He was a special man.
What a great pairing of voices! I missed this in 1984 so am very pleased to see this at long last, wonderful. Many thanks for posting this gem from the good old days of television entertainment when we still had real stars of easy listening.
Warms My heart looking back at this, brilliant, these were real stars not trying to out perform each other but enjoying each other and so naturally talented , I so miss shows like this a golden age of class and personality
This is television at its absolute best. Roger was fantastic.
A breath of fresh air in this muddled up world 🙏

I didn't hear of Rogers passing at the time. God spared me that
Roger always gave the impression that he was enjoying every second of life and nothing could bring him down👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The most awesome thing a man can do.
Amazing talents Roger and Val. They talk, joke and then flip a switch and those vocals emerge. Born to do what they did!

I used to hate Roger for 45 years , I Love him now .
saw Roger Whittaker perform in Dublin at the National Stadium in 1973/4 . Brilliant singer ! How the years have flown !
Both wonderful voices and had many great hits. I loved Vals A Million Miles from Nowhere.
They don't make musicians like this today.Great stuff
Remember as a kiddie watching these guys - even as a child I realised how special they were
Sheer pleasure to listen to these two sing together, their voices blend so well
Enjoyed both of them as a teenager in the sixties. Now 72 and so pleased to have come across the two singing together

Fantastic singers and great entertainers.Used to love Vals show, the good old days of family viewing now sadly gone.
Such warm voices, and so easy on the ear, they should have made an album together, fabulous stuff.
No auto tune , the harmonies on new world in the morning and the last farewell are epic.
