I carry an etq. One thing to keep in mind is that they’re not TCCC recommended and the TCCC board has also found that the thinner (width) the tq is, the more pressure that is required to fully occlude the artery and stop bleeding. The cat tq’s width is 1.5 inches for a reason. So just be mindful that carrying a 1 inch wide tourniquet is going to hurt more, run a higher risk of nerve damage, and also require a lot more pressure to fully stop bleeding.
I will try to address each part of your comment, so this reply will be a little lengthy.
The compression band of the CAT is the exact same width as the ETQ. The extra .5 inches of width on the CAT is just excess material that serves no purpose. That's what we showed in this video.
CoTCCC is not recommending ANY new TQ, and they also do not make recommendations for civilian gear. They strictly stick to military gear for military purposes.
I've personally talked to someone (on the committee of TCCC) prior to carrying these for sale to see what his reservations were since they were invented AFTER the last round of TQ recommendations and I have no interest in carrying junk merchandise.
The final point that I would make, and I didn't cover in the video, is that there is also the ETQ Wide, which is the same width as the CAT, but actually provides a full 1.5" of constriction unlike the CAT.
