So what I have gathered is that this engine is pretty much the same as it's Series 2 counterpart from the U.S.? What the differences and what would it take to drop one into an older RWD vehicle.? I had a Caprice with the Series 1 3.8 in highschool. After crushing it I realized I should never have done that. Then the idea popped in my head that if I ever got another chance I'd put a series 2 in the new car. THEN I realized that the S/C engine was pretty much the same as the Camaro & Firebird engine just put into a different platform. I started digging and found out about Holden having already done this! I'm pretty much sold on the idea! What am I in for? I know I'll need the engine and all the electrical components and a 4L60e transmission out of a F Body, but that's as far as I've got. Subbed & subscribed! Australia always gets all the cool stuff!
not really needing a video on anything, I've got an EF which is proving to be too reliable I'm getting bored of it. I always enjoy watching whatever you put out though, whether it's an update or tutorial.
Thanks for the heads up on what to listen for if the coupler is chewed out. I'm going to look at a supercharged vy that's for sale next week. Any other tips on things to look for or listen for?
It is possible for one to run rough and not make boost if the vacuum lines are stuffed and leaking; so when you drive it boot it and see if it's making boost. The supercharger front nose seal is prone to leaking and the supercharger pulley/input shaft should be examined for wetness. Bring a torch and look for leaks. The supercharger doesn't hold a lot of oil so if it's leaking at the front shaft seal you should pull out the fill plug and see how much oil is in it (the oil should be very near the top of the threaded hole, you would have to pull the engine cover). Other than the coupler being worn out and making noise, if it's full of oil you should be okay. www.superchargersonline.com if you need anything including the coupler and oil.
OK cheers mate. One other thing, u mentioned the front seal and long drives, if I buy this car I'm planning on driving it up to townsville from Melbourne in july. Is that something I should consider before buying a car with this kind of supercharger?
I will let you in on a secret, I bought a new t/stat and also the hose years ago and it's still in the glovebox. BUT it is very important to replace it in an L67
G'day mate, sorry for the really long delay as I don't seem to get notifications of all the comments. I can't imagine a front wheel drive L67, I guess the closest thing in the USA to this car would be a Pontiac GTO which were made here in Victoria and exported. It's a shame the VT calais was not exported as they are a lot of fun to drive when boosted.
@@wickedxe We have the L67 in our front wheel drive Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, and Regal GS. I wish we had the L67 in a rear wheel drive platform.
hay wicked do u know how the cam lobes run on a vt vx vy v6 is it intake 1st exh exh then intake? i know the heads run left bank intake exh intake exh intake exh. but im getting mixed figures when im measuring the lobes perhaps im getting the intake confussed 4 the exh .cheers.
wickedxe, this is an excellent video, which I stumbled over researching the L67. Someone has just r4cently offered one of these to me (I seem to collect Commodores!) and I can't seem to find anything regarding their longevity or reliability. Have you any thoughts? The major complaint seems to be the requirement to use PULP, but as a BMW person from way back, this doesn't phase me at all.
I would quite like to buy a supercharger like yours to install on my2000 Pontiac Firebird with a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP L67 engine. Can you source a used one to ship me? If you know anyone that needs chainsaws down there let me know to.
It's easier and a hell of a lot cheaper to just buy an L67 engine + supercharger and mod the SC to work in a Firebird. I just finished the swap on my 01 Firebird. I did the swap for about 1 grand, and now it's at about 230-250 whp and almost 300 Torque
How would I get a Yella Terra m90 in the US? I have a l67 I'm in the beginning stages of swapping into an S10 4x4, and it'd be nice to have that factory bend on the back of the charger, instead of having to make a much less pretty one myself.
You are so right on removing the plastic cover, that's an impressive looking beast. There is a lot of components just easy to access in the whole engine bay. The idea of covering an engine has never appealed to me, i like to see the beast :-D Yes i think those rubber mounts are well buggered lol :-D
L67..the Australian dream
They are pretty cool, although this L67 is in need of inlet gaskets so not sure about the dream part atm

Thank you very much
wickedxe .you are very welcome. Keep up the good work👍🏆
Looks minty 👌🏻👌🏻
It's not perfect but it is awesome as frigg for $1500
i thought twin-screw chargers didn't need oil. Or do these Calais have a Roots? Or is the oil just for the bearings?
Oil is for the phasing gears and bearings. This charger is an Eaton M90

Depends on. what do you need doing?
