Ross is slowly becoming an Aussie, you can hear it LOL
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
He's got the round mouth of a septic tank no Aussie bout it
Farkenhellmaaate
7:51 yup
I’m a ford man but those l67s go hard with the right mods
They absolutely do
Been racing and modifying L67s for around 17 years. Have been 8.81@160 some time ago. The 3800 is under rated, especially once you get into turbo combos. 👍
Quick time mate!!
@shaunsankey5836 cheers. She had plenty left too.
Far out that’s wild! Definitely got potential these
@@RossReviewsauthey go all right 🤔
Strong bottom ends
I bought a new l67 S pack in 1998 and still have it, around 270k km, completely stock. I remember going for a tour of Holden Engine Manufacturing plant in around 1997. They had a stack of these engines on crates that they imported ready made from USA sitting in bulk in one section of the building. I always wanted to turbo the VT with a compound setup but ended up turboing EA to EF falcons which was a better and easier car to make good power IMO.
Great review of the Calais, Ross. I love the work he’s put into this car to make it as quick as it is. I really like that he’s kept the exterior stock. It like the colour too. Love the sound of supercharger whine. The 0-100 was quite impressive. Would love see what time it could get with more traction and a better surface. A credit to the owner once again.
this really surprised me! the eco tech can rip when modified correctly
Appreciate the comments mate 🙂
Thanks Pete.. I Just need sheepskin covers and some greys...
U selling her mate?@@catfishcalais
@@catfishcalais are you the owner? Looking at a 1999 C180 Mercedes massive 90KW 4 banger just rotting in my yard, with RWD.. Time to L67 it?!!
Such an underated motor glad they are now getting the attention they deserve!
Def are a bit of fun with a few mods thrown at them mate :-)
I was impressed
@shaunsankey5836 I've enjoyed mine for the last 4 years with a good amount of mods. I've gone turbo now so maybe Ross will need to do a vid on it
4:05 the l67 has been around at least since the start of VT (1997), whereas the barra was released for BA (2002). I personally feel like it was more of a response to the VCT Intech given the similar power figures, even though I'm not sure which one was released first.
edit: the l67 was first used in the VS, thank you to those who pointed this out
yes your absolutely correct.. just had turbo barra on my mind.. lol VCT in tech would be a closer comp
L67 was first released in the VS Commodore.
@@RossReviewsau Im Impressed with this car, but it shows you how good stock for stock the AU VCT is.
L67 was first in VS commodore in 1995 or 1996.
Possibly but there was many turbo SOHC E-Series getting around in the 90s. That's the reason Ford turbocharged the Barra because they seen how good those street builds were
So cool to see a tuned supercharged 6. I especially love the VY calais, very stylish looking car and to have supercharged 6 is icing on the cake.👌👌
Cheers mate, In this colour with the l67 and cream/brown leather interior, I had never seen before, one of then reasons I bought was to have something different
Glad you liked it!
@@catfishcalais it's a good combo 👌
Nice Clip. Very rare to see Holden Fan's do up a V6. It's mostly the V8's they focus on.
We only work on these engines and have done so for 10yrs+, very underrated engine because they don't make massive hp, but def have the nm to make up for it
I want to see all the different models
I'm pretty sure most of these engines will outlive their owners..
L67 VS with a t56 is about as quick as one can legally go on P plates in the eastern states.
they def move when opened up
@@RossReviewsau underdrive, frontmount, big injectors and a tune and you're on the way to serious power, pretty impressive for a 90° pushrod V6.
That, and an older model Golf R (5th or 6th gen). I think it is like 0.5Kw/T under the P plate power limit.
Nope. Turbo Territory with a tune and some basic mods.
@@TheSPazCOREyou get a dodgy motor though
7:51 - "Faaaaarkin 'ell maaayte!" Lol! I have a 2002 VY wagon that's currently stock and in pretty good condition, being a daily driver for 20 years. I'd love to do something similar with it - retain the original look as a bit of a sleeper, but with a hell breathing supercharged six under the bonnet!
This is really inspiring, cheers Ross and @TinShed!
Thanks for watching mate! You definitely should
Well did you do it yet? Lol
@@rollajay5301 Ha! no, money problems have delayed it- but i still have big plans!
Awesome bus mate! I really appreciate the standard look you've chosen here. Well done mate!!
Now that is a nice little build. It's all tasteful, nothing OTT with stupid suspension, 22" Simmons and tacky stickers. Would make for an awesome daily, more than enough grunt for the street, but it's still a runs like a bone stock VY Calais.
Grandpa spec was the goal mate, lambswool seat covers and venetian blind incoming lol
I agree. I like it
Very sleeper I like it
@@catfishcalais and propper mudflaps
... they really should have stuck with and developed this combo instead of going Alloytech route unfortunately ... Coming from a Holden guy here.
Cheers for the day out Jonny!! I'll let you know when the next project will be ready. #mangnaro
thanks again guys
Will need to get you back to Brissy when the Mangnaro is ready to go Jonny!! 600+hp with a manual 🙂
Thanks for the review John. I had a fully optioned tungsten grey 2004 L67 Calais and I loved it. Such an underrated car and engine, but also underwhelming without mods. So I went ahead and did a 10psi pulley swap, water to air intercooler, exhaust and tune and it was awesome. Cam, rockers and stroker kit and they become an absolute weapon. Another car that I can add to the list of regretful sales.
Another VY L67 owner 🙂Great car! No plan on selling mine anytime soon, that's for sure!
@shaunsankey5836 hold onto it mate. It's a unicorn. This is only my opinion, but the VL and VY were the best Commodores to roll off the production line. Subscribed to your channel. Cheers
@@mrcaps1971 No plans on getting rid of it anytime soon mate 🙂 Thanks for the sub!
Thanks for watching mate :)
Had a l67 in a vx with a getrag 5 speed behind it.
The box made it feel like a completely different car.
Yep, an extra pedal and having to shift yourself will do that I guess.
This thing is cool! So good to see something different and away from the ls's. They'll always be cool, but good to see people stepping outside the circle and daring to do something different. Keen to see this around brissy sometime, props to the guys who built it.
more are on the way.. glad you enjoyed it
We are based on the Northside, give us a wave if you see me mate 👋
We have done everything ourselves except for paint job, gearbox rebuild, headwork
LS's are fun but everyone has one
"Farking hell mate" in the most aussie accent ever haha the best
Part of the citizenship test now lol
🇦🇺😂
Glad to see an L67 on this channel... Something different to an LS and when they're done right (like this one), they fly down the road... Great review 👍
BTW, I'm pretty sure the owner also had a Supercharged CV6 Monaro (or maybe not)
They go alright for a little v6 with a little blower sitting on top mate.
That's correct, Evan currently has a 2003 vy monaro factory l67 sitting in the shed waiting for parts and we will begin working on that shortly 😉
Hope to see some more in the future
#Mangnaro #Partsloading
Love a good clean sleeper! This has all the power you realistically need for a fun street car.
The goal was 400hp, so we got pretty close 😊
Great sleeper and plenty for the road
Need to go noodling
Yesss!!! 🤘💪 glad you finally got to see what these things can do, keep em coming Ross😂
goes well!
Ohh they can do alot more
@@TinShed 💯
7:44 the shoulders, then head back in the seat. No acting there 😂
Bruh that's not acting, the car shifted and threw him back more
No acting here bro.. it slams you 👀 hard to see on camera but it kicks
Been waiting for ever for you to do a super 6 👌🏽👌🏽
Finally happened
To be honest the 3.8l didn't really need more power, it needed more gears.
I remember my series 1 WH ecotec would do 70kmh in 1st gear and 130kmh in 2nd gear. They should have gave it 6 gears before getting rid of it.
These vy Calais are some of the best looking commodores IMO. Almost bought one recently but stayed away only because of the lack of manual.
I would love a manual as well mate, but I wanted to keep it as "factory" as I could lol
I almost scored a hot house green S Pac L67 factory manual in 2018 for 4k but after talking with my parents we were like nah we already had too many cars and we recently sold a auto l67 in the same colour. We should've done it in 2018 because now it would be worth triple that price
Super sweet sleeper, luv it! Like an Aussie Buick GN!!!
Couldn't agree more!
Love that supercharger whine!
Goes good
Cool build- good to see something a little different. Nice, tidy streeter.
Thanks mate, that was the goal 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, nice wheels, I run a tuned 99 STI, and one of these gave me a run, was surprised to see it keep up, not sure what he had done, could only see exhaust and wheels but rolling from 80kph, it pulled even till around 120-130ish
Tuned 99 STI would be quick mate! Tuned L67 just has such an linear torque curve when tuned correctly, makes for a lot of fun 🙂
Nice set up...there a great motor...had one did over 450,000 klm with no rebuild on gas...great review....if the owner could get some air from outside the engine bay into that charger......would definitely help .......👍👍👍
The pod filter is just for now mate, custom air intake is in the works 🙂
In the states, the 3800 had quite a following for being very reliable and easy to make power for. Scene for it is nearly dead now, but still lots of built 3800s trolling
I'm trying to keep it alive but I need more $$$ 😂
I had vt Claias l67 on internationals wheels with a very similar set up years ago it was fun to drive
this was a very fun street car
I've got a couple l67. After building the factory stroker in the vr I wanted to play with the l67 after knowing a bloke with an 11.1 VP with one.
With the price of ls motors and getting a 304 quick they're good option. I'd owned plenty of turbo cars but never a blower so decided to go that way.
The 210 @.050 refreshed stock l67 with headers and a spacer is cool in the vu/vy/vz mongrel ute I've got.
Now I've got a +1 mm oversize , forged rod , main studded , 216/226 xpz cammed , a2a motor on the stand with a Baz modified blower for a vs.
Another 100rwhp and 300kgs lighter should be exciting!
Been watching the whole restoration on Evan's channel, Great to see it on your channel mate!
awesome car!
Appreciate the views mate 🙂 Keep your eyes peeled for the "Mangnaro build" coming up!

Everyone else can have a LS1, I'll stick to my L67 🙂

Surely you have something cheeky coming with the vt or the Monaro !
My mate had a turbo l67 in his Calais, it only lasted about an hour but it was mental while it did
glad to hear the correct pronunciation

Good ol pinkenba
Beast ! Makes me miss My vx calais L67..
Nice set up this
Many moons ago my mate had a VT calais with an l67. Manulised auto with 3200stall, drilled/upgraded soilinoids, cams, exhaust, front mount intercooler, roller rockers, built diff, I forget what size pulley here and I think it was about 14-16 lb . He spent around $16k on it 328rwhp.... which doent sound like a lot but it made 1163nm of torque... my mate sold it cheaper than he should have and then 6 months later guy tried to sell it back to him for more fully thrashed out with a different diff and transmission. I rate l67's. They cop a lot of flak but when not old and flogged out, they are quite a respectable donk.
Your mates car would've been a bit of fun! Depending how long ago you're talking, we might know the owner. Been working on these cars for 10yrs+
@@catfishcalaisit was fun in the dry but honestly almost too much and you couldn't drive in wet conditions no matter how soft you tried to drive it, even with 285 rears. was probably about 8-10 years ago. his name is Darren, he got all the work done at BYE PERFORMANCE in Perth, Western Australia.
Like it. Top end power great but thats just there fast. Nice one.

It does!
I once had a WH Statesman L67, I only did roller rockers and a pulley upgrade, and it was easily one of my favourite cars I've ever owned and would own another if i could find the right one. (Someone crashed into mine and wrote it off)
, you should have keep it for parts , , hopefully you be able to det another , one , , Hope you got paid out from the crash , people's do not look and bad judgements when driving, it sucks when shit happens , they are really , Good looking ,car that why brought one for 2000 grand , interior Good little more room at the back , , need a tidy up on the engine and paint , that ok , but it still go even with water issues , and rust underneath , and I even got people's want to buy it , , slowly doing it up , , new batt ,fuel pump ,starter , fuel filter, tyres ,
I'm just glad I can do it myself repairs , 😊 after someone side swiped my l67 Calais that riden off but still GOES 😅😅😅 AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT , JUST NEEDS PANEL AND DOORS REPLACED AND BACK ON DRIVING , WITH WATER ISSUES , ,, GOT NEW CASKETS FOR IT,, just a common things that needs replacing , ,

Loved my vy s2 calais l67, but couldn't say no to th 6.0 vz calais when a friend decided to sell, both were the same colour so some friends thought I had engine swapped haha
I’d prefer an LS but these can go well
As much as the revised sv6 engine would have been nice with a supercharger or turbo, why would they? Off the floor it made 190kw from 3.5L, which was 19kw more than the supercharged 3.8L L67. I've always thought the L67 had shockingly low figures for it's size, both in NA and SC form.
This here, is very good to see a L67 made into the engine that it should have been from factory.
Good daily runaround
Could be, but not with the price of E85 atm 😞

Mine is pretty much all original couple little tweaks I've got just under 345 HP She's a long wheelbase but if I want I'll loose traction in first and nice little chirp in second. The 5.4 litre pushers her along just nicely. But their isn't to many of the G8s. She's in almost perfect condition owned previously by the one owner who sadly passed on old age.
