I did a stage 2 on my 2021 RG and I left the stock air box because I like the look. I installed the Arlen Ness Big Sucker oval air filter that’s 1/4” wider than stock. It looks better than stock doesn’t break the bank and they estimate like 3% more HP. I don’t know I really don’t notice any difference power wise but When I twist the throttle I notice hearing the air pulling in a bit.
I like HD bike a lot. So, I went to visit a local HD dealership and they wanted to charge me a lot over MSRP. So, I eventually bought a 1/12 scale model and I have become a happy owner now ever since.
What is a half scale model? A Sportster? What did u get? I got robbed at the dealership 😭 I bought a 2021 street glide I may as well bought a CVO th-cam.com/users/shorts56ICq6jz6Yo?feature=share
i was going to keep mine but im going from 114 to 128ci. tuner said i would gain more with a better filter. K&N does make a wider filter element that fits it if you drill the holes in the tin. i went with a black S&S Stealth Air Stinger.
I like the one with the arm extension... wise idea for put the filter directly on the motor so it continuously suck hot air from the heads right back into combustion. (Losing usable power.) It looks nice and not anything near as restrictive as the others.
The stock 114 air filter is good for being a stock dry filter. I prefer the oiled K&N not only for the looks but also if I get caught in the rain as the oil will help to repel some of the water. You still want to put a rain sock on it as soon as possible especially if it is a heavy downpour, but on my last 3 bikes, I ran in the rain with no issues using an oiled K&N filter. For me, that makes it superior to the dry paper stock filter, and of course, the K&N is washable requiring just a reapplication of oil to it.
Supposedly these air cleaners are the same as the Screaming Eagle stage 2 that costs $400. The stock ones also look bad-ass. That is why the take-offs are selling fast and why I just bought one. The nameplates are easily swappable too, so you can change to like 6 different styles for about $90 each nameplate.
The issues with the big sucker might have to do with fuel standoff. It's possible that the radius flows better on a test stand. But I know the guys that build prostock drag cars who have to look at everything because they have displacement rules and everyone starts with similar equipment have observed wet flow inside of intake manifolds. If they run more than about an 8mm radius on the top of the runner into the manifold they see fuel separation and have sluggish engines. While the air filter is designer for air, there will be reversion and you may see a fuel cloud outside of the carburetor that backs up and sucks back in. The radius might be allowing this reversed air to allow the fuel mist to form droplets and wet the radius instead of staying in a better droplets size for combustion.
It's flows good and the OE is a good looking air cleaner, but it's kinda hard to vent the breathers externally with the backplate.....if that's something you want to do.
Just saw this video. I bought a used 2019 Fat Boy 114 last year with 250 miles on it with all kinds of chrome goodies. I replaced the cans and threw them in the garbage. Nobody would want stock cans and I didn't want them in my garage. The breather looks awesome on my bike and I am simply going to replace the filter.
I just put the screamin eagle ventilator breather on my 2019 road king special. I like the stock like look. Great video and I'm a new subscriber. Here to support a fellow moto content creator. Ride safe and all the best in 2022. 👍👊🇺🇸
I would thinkthe arlen ness element quality is better than the harley filter is....plus imo, the cycle filters look better than the oval ones do.. either way the fat Bob 114 is a killer awesome machine....
Thanks Bryce, good to know, like you know I have the Standard 107, and if I eventually stage up to 114, I'll get that air cleaner, like the way it looks
I had seen a post from Moonshine Harley about it a while back saying the stock air cleaner just wasn't flowing enough air, for a stock stage 1 your probably fine, I changed mine to a Ventilator extreme when I added the red shift 468 cam to increase flow.
That’s the stage 1 ventilator kit. I got the same filter when I did the stage one on my 2022 road glide. Does this now come stock on some new 114 bikes?
I have the bone stock 2018 Softail Deluxe 107 and did what you said and bought a stock 114 cleaner take-off just like yours. There is a 1/4" gap between the 114 backing plate and the throttle body!!! Does anybody know why it won't fit the 107?? Yes, I installed it correctly. Is there a Harley Davidson 1/4" thick gasket I need to buy? My dealer doesn't know jack. P.S. Nobody sells the take-offs for anywhere near $100. More like $220-300.
@Damien Frigo Do u have a cam , Catless header, and slip ons? I had been wandering how will I gain if I change from stock breather with added cams and slipons
@@71donkrider yeah running the 468 redshift cam / s&s oil pump / cam plate / vh big radius pipes with dyno tune , air filter does its job but bigger with a dyno tune will make the difference.
U won't be able to clean the stock filter since it is a paper element but if u upgrade to a rechargeable filter like K&N, you would want to pickup their recharge kit which has a cleaner fluid and oil along with detailed instructions.

pick one up used! Or maybe snatch one now. As winter approaches, Most dealers will negotiate a lot more leniently.
If I'm correct, the 114 Air cleaner on your bike is a Screaming Eagle air cleaner, which I put on my 107 which was part of a Stage 1 upgrade

My stage 4 Fatbob was fitted with the ventilator filter, the only change was it had a K&N cotton filter inside.
I like the one with the arm extension... wise idea for put the filter directly on the motor so it continuously suck hot air from the heads right back into combustion. (Losing usable power.) It looks nice and not anything near as restrictive as the others.
It may suck hot air (giggity) at a stop, but once youre moving the cooler air flows into the filter
