This right here is the difference between the US format of selling vs Metric. Metric bikes come out of the crate at its factory best. HD and Indian asks top dollar and immediately try to upsell you because their products comes stripped down and basic and we are forced to pay extra for performance.
Hey man I’m in oz too, how long have you had your sport glide for and do you like it. Like what do you love and don’t love about it. Interested on hearing your thoughts.
@@matthewbennett1545 I bought my bike in Oct 2020. The Sport Glide handles like a dream. The performce is great and noticebly improved with the SE Stage 1. The fairing with a HD 5.5" screen upgrade keeps the wind off you on the hwy. The bags hold a good amount of luggage for overnighters. It is a great bike on road trips and for the price it is a great bike. With the few upgrades I have done, there is nothing I dislike about the bike. Highly recommend the Sport Glide. Take one for a test ride. 👍
He literally told you in the video: there is no MAF to meter intake air flow on an HD like most cars, so they can’t really run a fully closed loop tuning strategy.
So you say that if you do either slip ons or intake you need the tuner. Well if that were the case and damage would occur if you didn’t have a tuner then why doesn’t the check engine light come on after installing only slip ons? That was one of the first things I did. Actually I drilled out the baffles first and no engine light. My ride is a 2018 road glide ultra. I can see tuning if you do both intake and slip ons maybe. But unless you put on a free flowing head pipe along with intake, exhaust slip ons I’m not so sure the tune is needed. But I will tune mine when I put on my new intake soon to go along with my slip ons. Harley is always trying to trick people into buying more crap than they need because they just assume people that can afford their bikes are stupid when it comes to anything mechanical. When I go into my dealership wanting to buy a specific part those parts guys are always trying to push a more expensive equivalent part that I was wanting. I already KNOW what I want so shut your hole!
2 out of 3 shop guys "recommended" the tune with just slip-ons as a precautionary measure to close all doors on the possibility of warranty issues but when you back them all in a corner they all say that in most cases the tune is not necessary. '18 SGS
Why doesn't Harley Davidson make these options from the factory instead of forcing customers to buy a motorcycle with parts they aren't going to use? My current motorcycle is engineered well enough a stage one upgrade makes zero difference in performance.
@@tbrown4080 Wrong. These Screaming Eagle kits are all EPA compliant. The HD engines are intentionally restricted so the dealership can charge you thousands in parts and labor to uncork the engines.
you have to pay someone! besides this way the factory does not have to guess what you are going to want your stage 4 on... If they had to do that can you imagine the cost? sure you could get it on your initial purchase but I bet it would cost lots more considering the number of units that would just be sitting there waiting to see IF someone wants it that way..
Love the way he explains about factory restriction, then convience to spend money to open them up...... lol Why there are restrictions in the first place.... Cha.....ching 🤑🤑🤑🤑
I purchased back in June of 2022 a brand new Street Glide Special 114. 8 months later, I am considering a 131 Stage IV kit instead of a 135 Crate Engine replacement. Is a 131 now cheaper since the 135 is being produced? The wait for my area in Pennsylvania for a 135 is likely up to December or later when it is officially released for here compared to scheduling a 131 kit upgrade next week. I am just trying to weigh my options. Looking for any comments, thoughts, or suggestions for this upgrade. Stage I, II,III, IV, or wait for the 135 crate engine?
I've been thinking of doing a Stage 1on my FLHTK 2017, but several dealerships I have talked with state that the Smart Tune Pro is not necessary nor have they ever sold one. To me it makes sense, but trying to find a dealership who embraces it seems to be hard to find. Anyway, so I'm still researching and find this video to be very helpful. Also, I'm very happy with my stock bike, so I may never do a Stage 1...we'll see.
What if your bike isn't fuel injected? , I am fixing to go with the stage 2. I go to Harley Saturday to talk to them about it, they trying hard to sell me the 3, but I keep saying I just want a new cam, a better one and a new Mukuni carb on it. All I want on it. Talked to GM yesterday n he is trying hard to talk me out of that and into the stage 3. I hear anything over a stage 2 is just throwing your cash away? I ride a 2002 Dyna Lowrider, decent bike but 88 just isn't enough.
Does Harley have a sheet that tells you which items are matched to provide the desired results? One dealer tells me one thing the other something else. I know that everything has to be matched or you will lose power.
Their department is right along with the engineers when designing the engines. I run all Harley parts and they work well while I have heard the stories of people chasing gremlins when they go with competitor parts. If you are seeking insane drag racing power for competition then it's a whole different ball game and the cost going with high grade 3rd party performance parts is going to be very, very expensive. But the V&H bagger finished 2nd in King of the Bagger race running a stock Harley 131 Big Bore engine with a V&H air filter and exhaust. Some of those others didn't finish the race. Plus, it is covered under warranty and extended service plan when running all Harley parts.
I was told that a person dyno-ing a bike with this tuner can’t add but 7 percent fuel and only 7 percent spark to the screaming eagle tuner, it was limitations .. was told that $300 for it was a waste ...
As a tech I thought you may have an opinion on this... I have a 2021 Harley Fat Boy. You may know that it comes from the factory with a high performance air cleaner, but I ordered an upgrade to that ("extreme" Screamin' Eagle air kit) which is 40% more efficient. My question is; if I plan to install a basic full exhaust on this Fat Boy (whatever brand) and that's it, is there a downside to having this upgraded air kit (like it can't be tuned properly, poor gas millage, poor performance, won't work well with typical exhausts like Big Shots V&H pipes, etc...)? I understand that the advantage is that it will work better with a cam installation later on if elected, correct?

I just got the Stage 1 but to be quite honest I can't tell any difference at all...other than the sound. I went with the slip ons, intake and tune only, not the headers, was that a mistake? Will I need to do headers to feel the difference or is stage 2 my next best investment?
Can't ad stage 1 because software needs to be updated but there is no software update?wasted money used vanse and Hines on my other bike tuned in 10 min

Replaicing the fxdr 1400 Air cleaner worth the performance gains or is it just a cosmetic gain the stock air cleaner all ready looks aggressive but I'm not sue about the performance
I had a 07 Sportster I bought from a dealer (not Harley) and it had I'm assuming a stage one kit (bc the air cleaner cover had the screaming eagle logo on it). I've rode other stock Sportsters and compared to the 07 the 07 had so much torque. It ran like shit at low speeds (I literally had to hold the clutch in to cruise at 30 mph or less) but when I opened it up it ran like a bat out hell. I loved that bike
Remember an engine is just an air pump. Make it breathe more on the intake and exhaust but that leans the hell out of it, so you need the right tune. Thank the EPA because HD’s have been rolling off the line for years with lean tunes to make the EPA happy.
Hey, you can follow the link to see all the Screamin' Eagle parts. At the top of the screen, feel free to enter the year and model of your ride to see all the compatible parts.

Great presentation, if the SE intake mods are epa legal, the SE exhaust with better flowing cats are also legal.... why doesn't Harley make these standard? The exhaust could just have a removable baffle that kills the decibels. I know.... harley makes more money by selling us more crap. But here's the deal, those of us who fall for this tactic are getting old. Its our kids and grand kids who are the new customers and if harley davidson's sales numbers are slowing then its time to dump antiquated tradition and focus on customer desires. Power, speed and styling is last because these kids would ride a moped if it could wheelie at 90 mph. Always offer a v twin, but don't power the entire inventory with three or 4 almost identical motors... who does this? Harley needs to wake up.
Good points. It's a money-making scheme, but it does give the owner options. I rode my Road Glide bone stock for ten years and I was perfectly fine with that. I did not want a louder exhaust or more hp.
@@jerrybrown66 my 2017 ultra is bone stock. Them stock Yamazaki's are louder! I like it quiet for long rides. But there are times I wish it was louder... Theres an exhaust I can get for my side by side called "captains choice". It has an electric servo valve to redirect exhaust from the muffler to dump unruffled like a drag pipe. Thats a modification I would do to my harley.
Why do all these Harley haters even watch this. I do like that Harley put the catalytic converters in the slip ons. That means you don’t have to buy headers

I have a little bit of knowledge about this subject right here, not only do I have a custom Motorcycle shop in Chattanooga Tennessee but I also have a sizable personal collection at My home on top of Missionary Ridge as well. Speaking from my personal experience from dealing with customers, every single person has a separate preference when it comes to motorcycles in general. Of course 99.9% want more power than they can even use on the street, but that's just how we men are made. Ohh yeah that 0.1% that doesn't want that much power are women riders. . Hahaha just kidding 😜 Here's the thing about V-Twin Motorcycles they weren't built for drag racing to begin with, but for cruising around the city with your lady friend on the back or heading down to Daytona's bike week. That's pretty much all they were made for until recently, now with those 88ci, 96ci, 103ci, 107ci, 114ci, 117ci those motors started getting on a different level "they get up to that 120 MPH perty damn quick. All of The conversion kits, and that screaming eagle packages just goes on and on. You pay really good money for a Harley Davidson to begin with, and then the ski is the limit on the upgrades that are available. That was around 2017 or so, and you know that Harley Davidson wasn't even done yet. Now let's get into the really fast V-Twin motors, like the 121ci, the badass 128"/ 131ci screaming eagles , and then finishing off the arsenal of power is the SS -T143. Now when you are pushing 160 plus HP and 150lbs torque that's close to super bike numbers , so anyway you look at it that's one hella accomplishment! Like I said each individual has a personal preference, wether it be for a car, clothes, or motorcycle. The best thing that you can do is try a couple of different types, don't rush into buying the first thing that you ride unless it's all you can afford. Ohh there's no shame in having to do that whatsoever, that's the way I bought my first street bike ever. I was working at Taco Bell after school "well I would go to football practice for a couple of hours, then shower and go to work at taco bell until midnight. My parents told me that they would co-sign with me to get my own transportation, so I thought I was going to go down to the Yamaha dealership to get a new FJ -1100 hahaha. I had to choose between a 1987 Yugo, or a 1987 Kawasaki 440 Ltd. I loved that bike. I have never bought anything that I was satisfied with from the factory, I have always done something extra, to every bike or car that I have ever had. Wich is why I sold my entire fleet of Simi Trucks , Warehouse, and the rest of my business and equipment. I decided that I wanted to build Bikes, not just for me but for anyone who wanted me to make their bikes the way that they really wished that they would have come from the factory like. Sorry for going on and on about this, but I am very compassionate about the Motorcycle industry.
How does moving a single catalytic converter that's closer to the cylinder heads (and the combustion process) to two catalytic converters further from the cylinder heads increase flow? Different substrate material? And on touring models where the left side exhaust flows less cfm, doesn't this create a flow bottleneck? And how does this affect O2 sensor placement? Too many questions left unanswered on a process that seems it should be engineered as a part of Stages 2, 3, and 4 rather than just a standalone kit. Maybe I'm wrong...Harley has a whole team of engineers for this. But, it just doesn't seem to add up. I'd like to see a Stage 1 dyno using the stock exhaust OR slipons and the high flow air filter with the SEPST up against the Stage 1 with the high flow air filter, SEPST and the $1400 full exhaust. I'd be willing to bet it's the exact same torque. Maybe +1 or +2 horsepower difference if I'm wrong. And I've been wrong before...a lot.
Lol. They had a whole 'team of engineers' for the M8 and still managed to produce an oil-sumping fuckup because the retards couldn't design an oil-pump worthy of the name.
Who would I trust. Definitely not the guys charging 2-3k for parts that cost half that with people who have put in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth test and tunes. I come from the modified car world I know how this works and I'm not a fool
I mean for the tuner S&S make a good one and a few other companies do too and with the others I don’t need to buy two tuners If I want to customize the tunes myself So is there another reason why I should buy you’re tuner?
Around how much will all this cost being done at the dealer ? I would love to buy some V&H parts and do it myself but Harley is so picky with their warranty that I’m sure they won’t cover it.
once i remove the catalyc coverter and install new air cleaner ,i can just go to harley and get it remap ,why buy the tuner ,just money throw away because it,s the only modificstion i am gonna do
And any Japanese 600cc super sport puts more power to the rear wheel. O yeah and torque it's just that torque is above 10k rpm at the wheel than any Harley 1200+cc engine that is a 40 year old design. Dyno my 600 against multiple Harleys my bike always put down bigger numbers and cost less than 10k out the door with better brakes, suspension, frame, transmission, swingarm, liquid cool engine that many people have gotten over 150k miles without a problem. Harley stock been in a steep nose dive last 7 years. People are fed up pouring money into these engines which are designed to fail. People not paying 20 to 30 thousand dollars for new bikes... I predict this company will be bankrupt inside of 5 years from now..... We have access to company balance sheets, showing the company way over extended on existing loans and credit to the tune of almost 500 million dollars. This motor company not have that kind of cash to pay back..........Is only a matter of time now, before banks start calling these notes back over-due for payment............
A big waste of materials as well. As once you upgrade, the old exhaust and intake is worthless junk. In stock form, the only way a Harley will pass emission requirements is run them supper lean. You have to purchase the balls to you new motorcycle later for an additional thousand.

My 2019 Road Glide Special SHOULD HAVE HAD THIS ALREADY YOU FUCKERS!
Lol! Especially since all these parts are still EPA complainant.

If the bike can’t adjust itself then why does it have O2 sensors?
Excellent Point!
He literally told you in the video: there is no MAF to meter intake air flow on an HD like most cars, so they can’t really run a fully closed loop tuning strategy.
@@kc2giw Wow. I did not know they don't use MAF sensors. I would have assumed they were seeing as how they must pass emissions too.
I use to tell ppl I ride a bmw because I can't afford a Harley, man that's a no shitter...
I'm up to stage 2. Probably will take out the cat and get the true duals on my rineharts slipons.
That’s their business, accessories!!

Because they make money off of after purchase installs
@@tbrown4080 Wrong. These Screaming Eagle kits are all EPA compliant. The HD engines are intentionally restricted so the dealership can charge you thousands in parts and labor to uncork the engines.
Why can’t all this be stock

Can you buy Mustang Shelby GT for regular Mustang GT price ?
What kind of dumb question is that ?
Loser !
What I’m saying loser, stage 4 should come directly out of the factory. You should think before you type. And the GT comes out of the factory
Also it would be better out of the factory, so u don’t have to pay a dealer to do it.
you have to pay someone! besides this way the factory does not have to guess what you are going to want your stage 4 on... If they had to do that can you imagine the cost? sure you could get it on your initial purchase but I bet it would cost lots more considering the number of units that would just be sitting there waiting to see IF someone wants it that way..
Interesting, how much is each of these stages?

Very nice review, how much does stage 1 cost and will the warranty cover it on the bike
Thank you for your answer
No we wouldn't want those Loud pipes to interfere with the stereo but I hear plenty of bikes stereos interfering with their Exhaust🔥
I was told that a person dyno-ing a bike with this tuner can’t add but 7 percent fuel and only 7 percent spark to the screaming eagle tuner, it was limitations .. was told that $300 for it was a waste ...
I have a 2018 fat bob does this model come from the factory with a high intake air cleaner?
Got a k&n snorkel luv it looks cool
What a great informative video
Harley is saying hey EPA please lower the fine you put on us, see we use catalytic converters in our mufflers
Would this work on a 2023 harley-davidson freewheeler

I just got the Stage 1 but to be quite honest I can't tell any difference at all...other than the sound. I went with the slip ons, intake and tune only, not the headers, was that a mistake? Will I need to do headers to feel the difference or is stage 2 my next best investment?
What headers?
Slip ons are only for sound, no performance. Intake or full exhaust requires a tune, small bump up in performance.

I had a 07 Sportster I bought from a dealer (not Harley) and it had I'm assuming a stage one kit (bc the air cleaner cover had the screaming eagle logo on it). I've rode other stock Sportsters and compared to the 07 the 07 had so much torque. Remember an engine is just an air pump. Make it breathe more on the intake and exhaust but that leans the hell out of it, so you need the right tune. Thank the EPA because HD’s have been rolling off the line for years with lean tunes to make the EPA happy.

The things they will never mention is the more you do it in stages your gas mileage you get on your bike becomes a fucking burden
It's smiles per gallon that matters. Not miles. 😄
I've always considered my XR 1200 as an air compressor 😂
I have a little bit of knowledge about this subject right here, not only do I have a custom Motorcycle shop in Chattanooga Tennessee but I also have a sizable personal collection at My home on top of Missionary Ridge as well. Speaking from my personal experience from dealing with customers, every single person has a separate preference when it comes to motorcycles in general. Of course 99.9% want more power than they can even use on the street, but that's just how we men are made. Ohh yeah that 0.1% that doesn't want that much power are women riders.
. Hahaha just kidding 😜
Here's the thing about V-Twin Motorcycles they weren't built for drag racing to begin with, but for cruising around the city with your lady friend on the back or heading down to Daytona's bike week.
0:23 what bike is that on the left?
Hi there! That is the Harley-Davidson FXDR 114.
And every change or upgrade is a $$$ amount. If HD install a HB and a new Exhaust then the tune should be included........but wait
425tricky what do you mean? Sorry new to motorcycle and just put slip ons on myself and would like more sound
I mean for the tuner S&S make a good one and a few other companies do too and with the others I don’t need to buy two tuners If I want to customize the tunes myself
So is there another reason why I should buy you’re tuner?
