      Good stuff Steve. I added the EBS from DK Customs back in February on my old TC88 after much research. Incredibly well built and extremely well designed. Love your tips brother - stay safe out there. 🤜🏼

    Good job sir. Was really pleased to see you venting the hose upward. I installed a DK kit a couple of years ago routing the hoses as you did. Took some verbal heat from a number of ignorant repliers who didn't understand. Two years out now and I can report the system continues to work perfectly. Thanks for posting.

    Thanks Steve! Also, there's plenty of evidence out there that shows the top of your pistons get caked with that un-burnt oil in the form of heavy carbon deposits getting layered on your piston tops. Best thing, in my opinion, is to install a DK Customs External Breather to keep that oil off the tops of your pistons. Some bikes are heavy spitters, some aren't. I installed one on my 05 Carburetored Electra Glide and it worked great. Man, that kit looks SWEET on that bike!

    • @sikbaggers

      Yes sir...its probably one of the worst things for your engine that the epa has said HD must do. Ive sen plenty with caked heads...even newer bikes and you are right...ive has ome in hee that never spit a drop and some puke it out like crazy. My 14 sg likes to puke..the 15 rg,..not so much, either way..this is well worth the few bucks to help keep everything clean.

    I have a twin cam and when I decided to do a stage one upgrade I was predisposed to want to buy fro DK Customs. They seem like sincere folks and it's a small, local, USA business and that's what I prefer to support. However, after exchanging a half dozen e-mails asking extremely basic questions all I got were vague, unresponsive replies. They wouldn't even tell me what exact products I should buy to ensure proper fitment. Plus, their prices are way up there on the high end compared to competitors. So their lack of interest/inability to answer even simple pre-sales questions and high prices told me that this was not a company I wanted to deal with. As to the breather... I shopped all over and as much as I am not a fan of Arlen Ness, their big sucker product was less expensive and better than anything else that's out there. And IN STOCK! HUGE filter surface area. I'm definitely getting more air than the engine can gulp down now. Not crazy about the boring black disk cover but I can live with it. Function over looks, right? I appreciate your videos but this one seems to be aimed at posers who are into "hip" products where money is not a concern. Most real Bikers care more about function and price. I don't see an M8 ever being in my garage so it's all a noop. But you do ask for comments so here's mine for what it's worth. I find most of your videos to be very helpful and informative. This one maybe not so much.

    Tip: use a sharpie to mark where that banjo bolt has the hole so you can align with the route out of the redirecting part. If if isn't tight use thin washers because it has to be aligned.

      He Steve! Good news/Bad news - Good news is that the Zombie breather is on and I love the look! Bad news is that it sparked a bigger undertaking. I’ve now committed to suspension upgrade with Legend REVO shocks and AXEO front end kit. Also, going with the Redshift 468 cam and Thundermax ECM. Cha-ching$$$. Anyway, here’s my question for you: while were in doing the cam seems like good opportunity to upgrade some other stuff, like the oil pump. Most TH-cam techs talk about 2013-2020 bikes touring bikes (2020 FLTRXS for me) could use upgrade but that not all 2020 bikes have the old pump. How do I know if mine has the pump that should probably be upgraded?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also going to replace the inner cam bearing and probably the lifters and cuffs. Thank you!

    I am sure it’s a great product with great results. However, it seems that oil will have a hard time going up the hoses fighting gravity as it leaves the intake area. I know It is under slight pressure but even so most of the oil will stick to the interior wall of that hose and mostly air will be going through instead. I would recommend running it downwards to eliminate this potential issue. HPI makes a similar product that I have on all of my 3 M8 engines, so far great results as well….. great video!!

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was actually recommended by them to run it up...however you can run it either way. Its however youw ant to do it. Its doing its job for sure even with it up. nothing dripping from the hose, like excess oil, and there a tad bit in the can...so id say it has enough pressure.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you sir. ive been caught in some pretty heavy rain and never had an issue with it...most of the guys I ride with all have open breathers and I dont think Ive ever seen a rain sock being put on...no ones had a an issue with it. If your bike is sitting in a pretty hard down pour I might cover it with something but actually riding down the road, most is going to shed off before it can soak in

    I just exhausted the breather under the bike. No catch can to worry about, it just happily vents away. I did this with my 96 Low Rider and then 2022 Street Bob. Once in a while, I will see a small drip on the floor. I have never seen oil residue on the bottom of my frame or the bike from the vent tube. I found that interesting because the Low Rider puked oil all over the air filter. The Street Bob's filter was damp with oil as well.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

    I eliminated the catch can with a 3in copper tube that fits into the end of the hose. I ground beveled one inch of the end of the tube at about 20 digress until the tube just had a 1/16 opening at the end. put the straight cut end in the hose and used a stainless hose clamp to clamp it to the the exhaust pipe (horizontal area). Can't see it because of my heat shields. Figure, instead of burning at combustion I'll burn it after. Had it on for over a year, have not seen any dripping or smoking.

    Is the oily mist coming from the breather bolts under enough pressure to travel upward through the tube, against gravity, to the "T" and then to the tube you ran under the tank? I am in the process of putting in a DK Customs external breather system and the upward route you did definitely looks cleaner but I was unsure if the oily mist would travel upwards before making its way to the catch can.

    • @sikbaggers

    Hey Steve. Great video. Just curious if you've had a chance to ride the bike with the external breather. I did the same mod but with an earlier version from DK and after about a week, the can filled up and smelled like burning oil every time I stopped. Thanks.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have and its been checked..seems all good so far... If you are getting that much oil in your catch can you probably have some other issue..I didnt go into great detail in the video about what causes the excessive blow by but first thing and its the most common is to check your dipstick. When filling your oil make sire it is in the middle of the full and add...not at the full mark. check it out and follow the marks on the dipstick. Running the wrong kind of oil or weight in your bike. There is a chart in your service manual that shows the air temps you ride in vs what weight oil you should run. Warmer temps would require heavier oil and vise versa. If your bike is still spitting that much oil afterwards then you may nee to check your umbrella valves. They could be malfunctioning and allowing way to much oil to pass. check those things and it will help with your excessive blow by.

    • @VA_Biker

      @sikbaggers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey chris, A vented tranny cover is just that, its a vent...it vents out...and its the tranny, your blow by is from the engine oil..they both blow out...so you cannot put one to the other...T man used to make a 3 section tranny cover that was a tranny vent and the other half went to the engine oil with 2 lines and was an "in" so blow by could go back into the engine section...they stopped making it as far as I know. I couldn't find one a few weeks ago when I was looking.

    Curious. How is that breather any better than the stock ventilator? Same surface area. Is it because the upgraded filter?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I never said it was better than the stock ventilator..However I did say its better than the snorkel heavy breather because of the increased surface area. And yes the K&N filter can make a difference but it wont be "seat of the pants" difference...as in you wont feel a huge gain in HP because of the filter itself. Surface area is what we are going for here and I love the look of the tab breather..that is why I choose that one over the ventilator. If you like that one or are currently running it and you are happy with it I would stay with it and maybe do the external breather mod if you are getting any blow by. Be safe and thank you for checking out the video David.

    What size bolt did you use on that breather back plate to block the hole

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      i dont remember what size it was. I picked one from my bin full of bolts that was smaller than the ring. Matched a tap to it and then tapped it out. The final bolt was too long so I cut it off and re threaded it so it just barley cleared the inside and you cant see it hanging down through the breather. If you dont have randomm bolts laying around I would just take the ring to the big box store and match up a stainless steel bolt to the hole. You want it slightly larger than the hole.

    Question, when swapping the breather and/or exhaust the bike will obviously benefit from a new tune. Can you run an aftermarket tune now without voiding the warranty?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes...great question, kind of long winded answer. There are certainly a lot of "grey areas" when it comes to tuning your bike. HD will tell you they have to do it or will void your warranty and that's a very short answer but not completely true. I use a power vision and HD uses them as well along with other tuners...basically if anything happens to your motor, HD will automatically say "its because of your tune or tuner" . Its literally their job to say something you did messed it up and then you have to dispute that claim and then it is up to them to prove that your tuner did it...You dont have to prove that your tuner didnt do it. In the long run youll usually win the case..unless of course you really did something stupid. Even a completely stock bike can benefit from a tune...epa has set the standards that they have to tune to and its OK...not great. changing this heavy breather to the TAB wont necessarily need another tune because it was a open breather to an open breather but the tab one has more surface area for more air intake. So it could stand to have the fuel/air ratio lined out but it wont hurt the bike to ride it with the canned map tune

    Do you have to re program the bike since you upgraded the air intake

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The one thing about tuning your bike is that even when its stock it can benefit from a tune. The basic map tune that HD throws on these things is just that, basic. So anytime you start adding more air, or letting more air go through the engine and letting more air out ( open headers) you will need to tune. Just changing the air cleaner wont change that much on its own. So no you dont need to tune but it will greatly benefit your bike if you do.

    Do they make zombie pipes and a zombie map to match?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know that there is a pipe that matches this breather but I do run the zombie 50 cals and the headers from TAB on my RG and love them. I use a dynojet power vision for tunes...very easy to tune with a "open breather" 2-1-2 headers and any set of slip ons...then you can fine tune from there with the autotune feature.

    doesnt it need to be tuned now?

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bike, from the factory can stand to have a tune. It comes with a map tune..which is generic. That being said, changing the air cleaner alone will not require a tune but can greatly benefit your bike if you do. Just opening the breather doesnt mean youre getting more air through the bike becasue its still restricted by the cats in the head pipe. Opening the breather and no cats will require a tune.
