    I ordered the RP- 280 yesterday and they forgot to pull it off from their website as it’s discontinued and they messaged me apologizing for the inconvenience and would send me the 8000 with a price match of the 280’s, honestly not even mad, quite happy tbh

Yes I have the time and knowledge to do this :) now I have speakers sooooo clear, sooooooo balanced and will never sell ever again!! Same specs and everything where it counts. Just a slightly modified “hybrid composite” horn as they call it and those copper rings. Might as well save some money and get the older model.

    In my opinion, based on what I see in this video and another reviewer, I suspect there is some cost cutting happening with the RP-8000f's (the plastic plinth "base" for weight reduction = lower shipping from China costs; and the speaker cloth is meh); and a technical change to the horn was made to bring down some of the detail aka "brightness" some listeners object to with horns. PS. I have the RP-280f and with a warm class ab amp (ATI) they sound fantastic! With a class D they do tend to be on the bright side but I still prefer this compared to dull sounding speaker.

    Couldn't disagree more. I listened to your demo on my old R-28F towers and the 8000F sounded best to me. I kinda feel like you don't want them to sound better than what you have because maybe you don't want to feel like you have a dated speaker and want to justify not spending the money to upgrade. I can get a pair of 280Fs for about $500 but I want the 8000F for the looks alone.
    Me personally? I'm chomping at the bit to get these in my theater room. My current front stage is 2 R-28F towers, R-25C center and 2 R-12SW subs. I'm gonna switch my R-28F towers to the rear and use them as rear surrounds and replace my entire front stage with 8000F towers, 504C center and 2 R-115SW subs.
    I mean I pretty much have my mind made up, but in your opinion, is it really worth it to go from an R-28F to the RP-280F or RP- 8000F? Are they really that much better? Thanks.

      chris 3S haha I wish! Those ported subs are massive and just a bit out of my budget! Actually even the Klipsch R-115 is too big for my room. I think I may go the Klipsch SPL route. They are supposed to be an upgrade to all the Reference product subs.
      I’ve actually got 3 freshly rebuilt JL Audio 13W6V2 subs that came out of my old truck. I was thinking of building a custom box for at least two of them and implementing them into my home theater. They’re such amazing subs and I’m tired of looking at them looking all sad and unused in the junk room of my house. I’d love to get my hands on a home theater sub amplifier and get these subs to doing work again. I just refoamed all three of them which was a huge pain in my ass. So it’d be nice to put them to use and I’m over the whole car audio thing. Goddamn I wish I’d invested even a fraction of all the money I wasted on car audio on home theater instead.
      Home audio is so much more practical and enjoyable than car audio.

    Thanks for doing this video. I wasn't sure if I should go with the 8000's or 280F's. I've been told the tractrix horn is slightly different but the same for the most part other than the cosmetic changes. Fortunately, I found a local Fry's Electronics who had a promo code for the 280F's for dirt cheap. They only had one but I took it anyway. Hoping Klipsch or a retailer has them on sale for Black Friday so I can get the matching speaker.

    The RP-280F is a very good speaker except the highs are slightly elevated. Klipsch has fixed this flaw in the RP-8000F by raising the crossover frequency from 1700Hz to 1750Hz, making the RP-8000F a perfectly balanced speaker.

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      they removed the rear portion of the tweeter too. That way instead of the highs being amplified in the actual horn they are allowed to dissipate through the tower enclosure.

      @ King Godzilla Yes but nothing that a slight tweak of your EQ or treble control can’t handle. Really not a big sonic difference between the two. The RP-280f’s are built better. I like the solid angled plinth on the bottom instead of the cheap feet on the new model.

    • @intrinsicfreedom
      @intrinsicfreedom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am now running the Marantz SR5013 with the RP280F and the combination is quite delicious. I will say that I've spent many hours over many days tinkering with speaker positioning. I highly suggest working with the 1/5ths rule. You sit 1/5 the way into the room and place the speakers 1/5 of the distance away from their closest walls. I also worked at the toe-in, with the focus of the speaker a foot or so behind my head,. The calibration software in the Marantz does a splendid job of adding further balance to the speaker and I think you will have a very difficult time making a big step to so-called "higher" Fi without dropping a huge load of added coin. I've spent some time in listening rooms auditioning four thousand dollar amplification setups and they do not seem to me to provide anything but a subjective improvement over the Marantz. The 100W is more than ample for this speaker setup and when I attempt to play my system at reference levels it is just too much volume, for anything but a short burst.

    Nice video, I can say the recent Klipsch have had my attention. But as a Paradigm guy, I was always under the impression that Paradigms were known to have a more "laid back" type of sound. And with Klipsch usually being described as a more "forward" type of sound, would it be arguable that the Paradigms sound signature wasn't so much "muffled" as you described it as much as they're just a different type of sound? We all hear things differently and have different preferences, but Paradigm in general has always been well regarded as having good sounding well made speakers...

      Yeah my experience with Klipsch is rather limited, but I've always been curious. My buddies or family that have been into home theater either went with cheap speakers, NHT, Polk, Def Tech or Paradigm and none of them that I experienced have horn loaded drivers. I miss Paradigm's older lines like their Studio and Signature lines that they no longer make. I was hoping their new Premier line was a new version of the Studios, but that's just more of a thought than reality. I currently run a mix of Paradigm Studio and Monitor lines that work great for me.

    I know you have experience with both svs and klipsch about to upgrade my home theater to either the svs prime towers center and bookshelves or the klipsch rp-8000f rp-600c and rp-600m I know you like the ultra line better but its a bit out my price range

      I would really like you to wait if you can until the prime pinnacles come out. Those are really going to ruffle some feathers. They sound amazing. If cost is the biggest factor then maybe think about the older klipsch rp line. They sound good and they are crazy cheap right now. I like more neutral sounding highs so I went with SVS. Nothing wrong with either brand though

    I think you need to broaden your speaker brands when doing comparisons. There are more than just SVS and Klipsch. I know they are a supplier of equipment for your channel but compare them to GoldenEar and Def-Tech to let people see just what you think about other lines as well.
    Also not trying to nick- pick. It’s just not everyone can afford to buy $2000 subs .
    And you might want to do some research on the products before you start recording. Not trying to be mean just would like to hear the facts instead of hearing guessing. But luv your channel and you work hard at it. Just some friendly advice.

      People with the money and the love of home theater buy $2000 subs...and $2000 amps...and $2000 cables...if you want budget stuff...which I have too...then there are other channels offering what you seek...or you can post a vid yourself.... in home theater...Klipsch and SVS are king and queen...it's tough to beat and surpass what they offer...without paying significantly for it...so stop hating.....

    • @jr62inhometheater98
      @jr62inhometheater98 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bee nasty WOW! Your handle matches your attitude. Who says I am looking for budget equipment? I am just saying there are other brands of speakers that are not budget and will put SVS AND Klipsch back to the drawing board.
      And they aren’t $20,000 each.
      To just assume that I am a budget HT enthusiast because I mention other brands is a bit on the snobby side.

      Me thinks if one can afford macintosh then they can afford paradigm and revel speakers. These were designed and marketed to the home theater community. They are not mutually exclusive, but in different purpose fields. No offense meant just stating the facts

      Not necessarily. I have both the 260 and the 280. If set up correctly, both are gorgeous. Room size and needs are really important here... If you have a big room, the 280/8000 might fill out the space better, but the smaller speaker does an amazing job of pushing the sound outside of its form.
