I used to listen this when I was 16 in my born country, Spain! I loved the music and the singer’s voice. On those times I didn’t understand any English, but now I find the lyrics full of meaning!

Well.. the rest of the post-punk bands didn't have Johnny Fucking Marr. That was the difference and still is. However, I've spent countless drunken nights listening to this song on repeat. This and The Mission's Naked and savage.

Shoegazing had its moments but at its worst just adopted the look of 1986 and then relied on as many effects as possible being stomped on in the middle of the song... 😀
