This is my summer of 1989. Working in a record shop in Bristol where this was on constant repeat play. Where I met the lovely woman who was to become my girlfriend and then my wife. Twenty blissful years and then cancer takes her. Can't listen to this without simultaneous tears and gratitude.
The year is 89 and I live in a big house with 3 floors and 8 flats. The landlord decides he wants to sell up. 6 of the flats are now empty and the residents of those flats don't kick up a fuss and leave with the exception of me at the very top and a chap called Chris who was at the bottom. We decided to make a stand and fight till the end. At this point we had no water but we had the whole house to ourselves and it was a big house.. One day while in my flat I heard a song that was being played at full volume by Chris at the bottom and I mean full volume I felt compelled to go down to his flat and find out who played this music I had never heard of the stone roses or this song. It was a revelation for me. Something unique , powerful and emotional. That was the day I heard the stone roses for the first time. Of course I bought the album and played it full whack. The whole house rocked to the sound of this track. We had a glorious 2 months of listening to this album over and over again. Eventually we were both offered £250 to leave and back in 89 that was a large amount of cash for each of us. I will never forget that period in my life being introduced to a seminal band. The building is now some solicitor headquarters. Bet you can still hear the spirit of this album in the walls.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song- I was dating a really gorgeous guy who owned a 1970 Turquoise Triumph convertible. He said “I’m gonna play you a song but you can’t say anything- just let it wash over you” and he drove a country road to a beach with this song playing. It was perfect- a sultry summer night- the smell of coconut sunscreen, the salt air in my hair while we drove at sunset with this song. Just perfect. Sweet memory!

17 January 2020, Palermo, Sicily. Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Stone Roses and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you. And love, admiration and adoration.
29 here and I thank my parents and grandparents for this generation of music, I may only be a baby to you legends but I remember being a little nipper with my uncle playing the stone roses albums constantly, and my grandad listening to led Zeppelin, innocent times but the best times for music.
One of those songs that you wish would go on forever. It also one of those songs that when you hear it for the first time, need to replay it again and again. This is my first listen - fantastic.

its so cool it’s coming back, I’ve always looked up to my father and he was born in 1980. he was so lucky to live in the 90s as a teen, his music has had a huge impression on me. Its opened me to a whole new world, maybe a new mindset. 90s was fucking awesome !
@@brynnamae8863 woah, you make me feel old. I was born in 1977. I don't know if I could pull off wearing that style anymore but its cool to see people dressing that way again.
When I think back to those times, I loved this band, but I was wearing black leather boots, tight black jeans, and a black T-shirt, with my hair in a ponytail. If it was winter, I'd also have a black sweater and black coat. (I'm a guy.)
My oldest brother was the first one to introduce me into The Stone Roses and this song especially in particular, it just feels perfect to listen to on a rainy night with headphones on or anytime of the day really. after school, after work. Thank you brother, love you dude.
Released when the UK was dominated by Acid house / rave scene. Heavenly influenced in this song / video. A unique time for those in their youth that were caught up in a revolution. Psychedelic indie rock.
This inspires me to take a high enough hallucinogen to have ego death lose my identy. Become a door with all before gone and coming to understand my existence as a door.
@@barnyaaard One of their biggest mistakes was losing that experimentalist vibe they had. Their debut album felt fresh and new whilst second coming felt like an uninspired rock and blues album. Still though, Love Spreads deserves its flowers, some of Squire’s best guitar work with TSR.

We were all tripping on the first full wave of ecstasy and raves were in full swing. Fantastic days. No social media or endless posing for fake photos. Just pure, unadulterated peak experiences, one rolling into another.
Yep, those days. Good times . Underground raves and “legal” raves. Living life and so much hope and love. We paved the way for the future gen. I just hope my kids don’t see this post because I have been a very suburban mum for years -booooooo! But loving the memories when I was “human”!

And it also makes me nostalgic to my early 2000s memories. But I only discovered this song half a year ago, when it was summer. The sky was getting darker and I was cycling back home from work whilst listening to this song. This song really has a special place in my heart.

"I don't have to sell my soul he's already in me" is just a genius line and mani shines with that bass. These young uns today don't know real music
True
I introduce my teenage son to it and he is learning and plays guitar now
hard to believe this track is over 30 years old and still going strong in 2020, brilliant opening track to an amazing album.
You're absolutely right sir
Ans some opener to their live shows, if we ever see them again!!
Timeless
Still sounds as fresh as if it was recorded yesterday.
whenever I hear this song I'm in my early 20s again. Absolutely amazing.
Always sounds like that very first time each time you hear it
This is a very true comment! Couldn't quite put my finger on it...

I love British music more than anything else. They are the best in it
Very true,
But of course, music and comedy ( and modesty ) lol

17 January 2020, Palermo, Sicily.
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Stone Roses and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you. And love, admiration and adoration.
You're most welcome lol
such a sweet comment, and in return I thank you for all the great Italian film directors! Cinema would be nothing without them!
And mozzarella, I love it
You are a very nice person
Thanks for the pizzas ;-)
As a 54 year old , so lucky and privileged to be a part of this , love it .
51 here! I totally agree^^

29 here and I thank my parents and grandparents for this generation of music, I may only be a baby to you legends but I remember being a little nipper with my uncle playing the stone roses albums constantly, and my grandad listening to led Zeppelin, innocent times but the best times for music.

Mesmerising, hypnotic, transcendent, ethereal and spiritual...meet The Stone Roses!
every cliche possible...i just never got it. you forgot pastoral imagery...back to this band im sure non of you care too much about. i took a beating earlier.
I love the “baggy” style. I remember dressing like that when I was a teenager. 4x large shirts, fisherman cap, big baggy jeans with adidas gazelles.Great times.
its so cool it’s coming back, I’ve always looked up to my father and he was born in 1980. he was so lucky to live in the 90s as a teen, his music has had a huge impression on me.
I dig this style too. I was a teenager in the 90s and am not a fan of guys wearing skinny jeans and tight tops. 👎
I still got my 4xbaggy shirt, love to wear it except it’s now too tight.😩
My oldest brother was the first one to introduce me into The Stone Roses and this song especially in particular, it just feels perfect to listen to on a rainy night with headphones on or anytime of the day really. after school, after work. Thank you brother, love you dude.

100% This song brings back so many memories Makes me wish I could go back in time.
Intense
Released when the UK was dominated by Acid house / rave scene. Heavenly influenced in this song / video. A unique time for those in their youth that were caught up in a revolution. Psychedelic indie rock.

How do you thing they have written the music ?!
There are not many perfect things in life, the opening to this song is a rare perfect thing. Sublime.

One of the greatest debut albums of all time.
and one of the shittiest follow up albums... let us all down... the magic... goneskies
This song is so good, it still gives me the chills every time I hear it - even 30+ years later...
The same!

We were all tripping on the first full wave of ecstasy and raves were in full swing. Fantastic days. No social media or endless posing for fake photos. Just pure, unadulterated peak experiences, one rolling into another.
Those were good times 👍
Yep, those days. Good times . Underground raves and “legal” raves. Living life and so much hope and love. We paved the way for the future gen. I just hope my kids don’t see this post because I have been a very suburban mum for years -booooooo! But loving the memories when I was “human”!
I lived through those times too. Your description resonates clearly with my experience. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Exactly right
So true, pure magic💜
It’s so hard to explain how this song makes me feel. I never experienced the 80s or the 90s. Only have memories of the early 2000s. Yet this song makes me feel I lived in the 80s and 90s. And it also makes me nostalgic to my early 2000s memories. But I only discovered this song half a year ago, when it was summer. The sky was getting darker and I was cycling back home from work whilst listening to this song. This song really has a special place in my heart.
