A-ha is super underrated. I’m almost 17 and none of my friends know who they are. They have some real bangers, like Take on Me, Manhattan Skyline, The Sun Always Shines on TV, Hunting High and Low, I’ve Been Losing You, The Living Daylights, Cry Wolf, and Blue Sky, not to mention all the remixes and the MTV unplugged album.

@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet No James Bond theme on this album? I dont know which country you are from. But their new albums are still charting at top 10 lists in Europe. Thats better than most 80s bands that still release stuff
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummetWhat utter nonsense…a-ha have released 11 studio albums and sold over 100 million records. Yes their first album sold over 12 million …but that leaves another 88+ million sales of all other albums & singles combined. They have had multiple hit songs in Europe and the rest of the world, many of them reaching #1. So Rolling Stones magazine is incorrect and so is anyone else who insists in repeating that a-ha are one hit wonders.
Back in 1985 they were in Concord California. And my sister wasn't allowed to go unless she took me to go see these guys. At that time I never even heard of him. But when they came out I was so surprised not only do they look exactly the same as they do on TV but they sounded just as good and I was an instant fan
I saw INXS - Listen Like Thieves tour in 1985 at Concord Pavilion when I was 19. And like 20 other shows there over the next 15 years ... Depeche, Counting Crows, James Taylor, Mellencamp, ZZ Top, Skynryd, Page/Plant, Henley, and Morrissey to name a few :)
When my parents are both gone…hopefully still many years away yet…this track will always remind me of it playing in our red Mazda, driving down the back of our base in Germany in the eighties, just me and my dad, sunroof open, sun blazing in. When I go, I hope Heaven is the eighties with my ma and pa!
This is arguably the best song off of the album. That piano intro - the synth bassline - just a brilliant track! I know everyone remembers these guys for "Take on Me", but "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was a far better song IMHO.
Easily one of the greatest songs ever written and composed! It has everything not to mention incredible vocals. The guitar intro, the strings are absolutely amazing. The keyboards and lastly the drums! Wow just wow!! 80s music was the best hands down!
Probably one of the best songs of the 80's. When He sings it now he sounds just as good as he did way back then. What a decade the 80's were and so lucky to have been there to appreciate their music, even now.

I don't understand why the song "Take on me" is more popular than this one. The best song by A-Ha. Dynamic, power, drums, synths, e-guitar, timing all put together in one song. Wonderful.

I know! It's obviously 1980s but sounds as fresh and exciting today as it did to us back then. No bands today have such good melodies and exciting music ( except Sigur Ros).
Bringing me tears of joy & sadness for memories & times that have gone by... Yearning for yesteryear... Waves of Nostalgia are building within.... Brings goosebumps , a lump to my throat and a pounding in my heart and a fire in my soul.. The track holds up well & evokes such intense feelings & flashbacks to a much happier decade gone by...
Well said! A great decade that should have stopped in 1985-1986 and that's it! No cell phones, no Internet and all that technology that corrupted the 90's and 00's generation! Poor them they are now addicted to smartphones and walking with their heads down not knowing where they go... Lost generation!
There was literally no comparison to my love for a-ha as a teenager in the 80's. Listening today, I'm transported right back to those golden glory days.

Pål Waaktaar Gamst (now Paul Waaktar-Savoy), the lead guitarist, is also the underrated genius who wrote most of a-ha’s songs, and basically all of the lyrics. Morton of course has that effortless frontman charisma and one of the greatest pop voices of all time, and he deserves all the kudos he gets and more, but I wonder how many people know that he’s mostly singing Paul’s incredible original songs? Plus, as a three piece band (with added members occasionally), they were/are a really tight pop rock group and just as amazing live as on vinyl! No studio shenanigans here, these guys were and are the *real deal* 🎤 🎸 🥁
Yes, Pal was the musical genius, Morten had the voice charisma and Mags the roaring synths but whose contribution is also underrated. The band wouldnt be legendary without all 3 key players. Love them, btw since I was a kid in Greece.
Funny, I have never seen AHA as underrated. They were beyond popular and traveled the hole world from mid eighties to mid nineties. Fun fact from Wiki: The band were listed in the Guinness World Records book for having the biggest-paying rock concert attendance; they drew an audience of 198,000 at Maracanã Stadium during the Rock in Rio festival. They have sold more than 100 million units, albums and singles combined.
Sometimes it's painful realizing just how long ago the 80s were. Songs like this take me back to those glorious days of childhood and it almost seems like an eternity. These songs are one of the few windows back to those days, almost like a three minute time machine. The tragedy of growing old....
RyuHayabusa06 We had everything to look forward to in our lives back then. Now all we can do is look back on those time with the knowledge that the anticipation of the future was often better than the reality, and wish we has lingered longer in the moment.
Everything about about this song the tempo changes the arrangement etc is top notch.even after 36 years it still moves me.such a brilliant original video as well !
Actually its a very timely song: we are even more surrounded by Media today than in the 80s and try to use TV, Internet etc. as a way to keep our troubles distant - but this shallow, unreal world makes us only more isolated.
This song is nearly 40 years old and it still gives me goosebumps when I crank it up . One time I was fortunate enough to take my CD over to a work buddy's house where he had and elaborate sound system. Large powerful Mcintosh amp and 6 foot tall electrostatic speakers . OMG. I hear parts of this song I never heard before even with my bad ass studio headphones . It was almost surreal to listen to this song in that setting
Bought this album for my thirteenth birthday...it's amazing how much I listen to this song these days and think to myself how much this album has influenced me musically... Thank you, A-Ha for some of the best years of my life.
For those of us who grew up in the 80s...we truly had the best of times - coming of age at a time without social media distractions, fear of school shootings, or a terrifying pandemic. I always loved this song but had kind of forgotten about it and then rediscovered it a few months ago when it came on First Wave on Sirius in my car one day. If you haven't watched the 2017 live MTV unplugged concert version do yourself a favor and look that one up next.
Don't forget no "reality" shows. That said, I'm so happy to have the Internet instead of sending letters through the post ... not to mention getting so much more than I ever could from the public library.
The 80's had, statistically, the worst outbreak of violent crime in recorded American history. The introduction of meth and crack cocaine increased the profits and, by extension the allure of street level gang crime. The terrifying epidemic AIDS was killing people left and right and we had no fucking idea how contagious it was for, like seven years. Dystopian and post-apocalypse science fiction captured the public imagination because apocalyptic fears were the highest since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The 80's was a fucking hellscape with, admittedly, some pretty sweet pop hits.
There are some misguided people who call A-ha a "one hit wonder band", because all they know, all they ever heard is "Take on me". That they had 11 successful albums with lots of other hits and even more just awesome music... that's forgotten by the "mainstream":
@@Groffili True. Not even close as a "one hit wonder" band. They got 8 top ten hits in the UK, with this one the only No 1 hit there ("Take on me" went at No 2). And quite famous all over Europe.
A-ha was a an era defining band of the early 1980s. They had by far some of the best music videos. This video and “Take on Me” were probably the two best music videos of the 1980s.
I've been a huge fan of a-ha since their debut album, Hunting High and Low. In fact they're my all-time favorite group. I lost my hearing in 2011 and have not had the pleasure of hearing this song, or enjoying any type of music, in over a decade. So, can someone listen to this song for me, one time, please? Thank you :) This is an EPIC song, by the way. This video is timeless and looks just as if it could've been made yesterday. It's impossible not to love it! a-ha was way ahead of their time.
I got you. Remember the orchestral music and the grandeur of the song when the ethereal haunting quality of Morten Harkets phenomenal voice. Love to you. Hold onto the memories of music in your heart ❤ no one can take the power of music from us ever. Blessings to you 🎉
Im so sorry , Sending you good vibes ((())))))) ❤️💫This song is etched into my memory. Music has a way of doing that sometimes, I hope it also does for you ☝️❤️
Such an underrated song from one of the most underrated bands ever. Epic, moving, brilliantly written, produced & recorded. A-ha will always be one of my favourite 80s music groups of all time! 🎤🎧🎶🎸😊 **And in response to all of those who have been ridiculously negative towards my post, please re-read my comments! Did I say that A-ha is a pathetic, waste of time, has-been music group?? My understanding of being underrated means not being given the status or recognition worldwide that Morten & his band mates so obviously deserved. They're one of many music groups from the past who wrote &/or performed exceptional tunes that weren't given the airtime they deserved. So have I cleared things up now? I guess further comments will answer that question! 🤔🙏
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
1985 was the best year and being 17 years old and hearing this song after Take On Me, even after 34 years, still dancing like a school girl and singing to all of a-ha's songs, this is one of my very favourites. The boys from Norway, still look as handsome as ever since the day they came onto the world stage. Always the best.

When I was a teenager in the 80's, I traveled to Mexico in a sailing vessel with my family. We decided to live like sailors and go where the wind took us. At that time and before we left, we recorded our favorite local Los Angeles radio station using a "boom box" and magnetic audio cassettes. So, we taped hours of music, DJ comments, commercials, station call letters etc. Basically, it was like a snapshot in time of what was happening on the radio. This song was one of the many we recorded and listened to for hours traveling the Baja California coast and the Sea of Cortez. When I hear it, it brings me back in time.

The 80s will always have the MOST special place in my heart and mind. This song reminds me of the carefree times when the only decision I may have had was when to begin to study for Finals here at U of I back in the 80s. Life is a lot more difficult now as an adult in my late 50s , but I still have those awesome memories of dancing till dawn and every hope in the world. Happy 2019 everyone. Don't forget our youth.

***** Oh, and I always liked this song more than I liked Take On Me and I was obsessed with that song. Loved Cry Wolf also! They have a lot of great and memorable songs. I also believe Morten has a 5 octave vocal range. Again, *beyond* underrated!!
Agreed! A-ha have plenty of great songs. Beautiful lyrics and melody by Mags and Pal, in combination with Morten's heavenly vocals, made some of the finest pop music of the 80's, indeed they created musical jewels!! Despite that Take on me was basically the only one of their songs played (and over played) in the radio in North America, not South America though, there were HUGE there, thanks to the fans that "discovered" them.
It's funny because their hit "Take on me" is iconic and because of that the band will never be forgotten but their backlog if often overlooked. They're understated but celebrated for their big hit.
The best song by a-ha. No disrespect to any other song of theirs but this song is amazing. Beautiful, dark, sad, etc. Such a great chorus and keyboard melody.
Actually they are only considered a one-hit-wonder by some uninformed Americans, they had a lot of hits all over the world. In 2019/2020 they are performing a Tour on nearly all continents.
@@marjoriemcbride6557 actually they are a 2 hit wonder, take on me went number 2 and the sun will always shines on TV went number 1, and the rest went to the top 10
COOLGAMINGSHOW It all depends what you define as a hit...and where! The world is a big place and they most definitely had many hits songs in many parts of the world. I’d say still touring and performing live , and selling out venues all around the world after 35 years ..not to mention 2 Guinness world records and selling over 100 million records is more significant that top ten hits.
This is my favorite song. A-HA is one of the most creative bands from any era. (Especially the videos) Morten's vocals are so good, I can't compare them to anyone, not even Steve Perry. I've owned their music since the 80s and it never gets old for me.
This is their best song...So much better than " Take on Me ". I have been lucky to see them perform twice...once in 1994 and then in 2020 !!! This song was always one of the best from the 80's...I was there..

Forever the essential message for 21st Century civilization. The world was already in desperate need of that message in 1985. No one could imagine the problems of mass culture/ mind control becoming what it is now

Soft rains of April, Scoundrel days, Maybe maybe, Crying in the rain, I call your name, Early morning, Stay on these roads, The blood that moves the body, You are the one, Touchy!, Lifelines...
I love Blue Sky!

@@edgardodominguez2159 Yes, the entire Scoundrel Days cd is underrated.
You were born too late. If you were born in the 60's for example, you would have grown up with this music, danced in the nightclubs to all this amazing music from the 80's.Then we have the 90's and Rave. You would have basically partied for 20 years ;) Hoping you can check out the 80's + 90's music scene. Good old days. Thinking about it i'm going to charge up my Time machine. See you there Jstewart2007.
This song should make a come back. The world needs Aha.

It is a whole new world my friend,my son listens to some bands from south asia nowadays😁😁😁😁
Yes indeed !!!!
Agree with you. Weird thing I did not find any cover of this song. Do you know any? I was 8 when this came out but I recall it clearly.
Rolling stones magazine called this band a one hit wonder. But 38 years later, this song still made the achievement to get 100 million views
and so what? their first album was a one hit wonder.
Ну, скажем, это не самая крутая песня в их исполнении. Есть как минимум еще 2 хита от них. И я их слушаю почти каждый день!
Rolling stone magazine says that the gun club is a great band, so ………….nevermind those happy crappy journalists.
Back in 1985 they were in Concord California. And my sister wasn't allowed to go unless she took me to go see these guys. At that time I never even heard of him. But when they came out I was so surprised not only do they look exactly the same as they do on TV but they sounded just as good and I was an instant fan
They still sound great live

I love this :)

This is arguably the best song off of the album. That piano intro - the synth bassline - just a brilliant track! I know everyone remembers these guys for "Take on Me", but "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was a far better song IMHO.

Wowzers, a musical masterpiece with deep emotional lyrics and magical mythical sounds from the ‘80s!!! #Thanks4Sharing 🥰🎵❤️🤖🌈☯️🔥👏💯
Cool. Didn't know that. Sort of like Depeche mode, where Martin Gore was the musical genius who wrote the songs and Dave Gahan the famous voice.
Thanks didn't know. The band is just fabulous.

Same! So many euphoric moments in this track 👍
The synth at the beginning after the terrific opening drum sequence is what does it for me! Who was the mystery drummer?
Omg, yes! Goosebumps every single time at that part. Tears as well, at times, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Hehe. This song is a pure genius.
It's epic ....this and Hunting High and Low.😍

A-ha is the most underated band ever.
A lot of the most talented bands and musicians were/are underated. Maybe the world should think about it.
Time will justify them, trust me!!!

I love 80s as well. Today and forever we can listen to these melodies. :-) Maybe such times come back sometime :-)

Actually its a very timely song: we are even more surrounded by Media today than in the 80s and try to use TV, Internet etc. as a way to keep our troubles distant - but this shallow, unreal world makes us only more isolated.

A-ha, Erasure, Depeche Mode, the Pet Shop Boy and so many more the 80s was the best for music
Without a doubt
Don't forget The Cure as well.
don't forget simple mind's
And def leppard.

80's for EVER, beautiful Hilary

There are some misguided people who call A-ha a "one hit wonder band", because all they know, all they ever heard is "Take on me". That they had 11 successful albums with lots of other hits and even more just awesome music... that's forgotten by the "mainstream":

**And in response to all of those who have been ridiculously negative towards my post, please re-read my comments! 🤔🙏

Morten Harket, simply one of the most glorious voices in history.
How can people not like this song??
You have no soul, you must have no soul!
Apparently 10K have lost their soul...:(
This was the sequel to "Take on Me" ...BOTH with his real-life girlfriend...;)
@BOSS GABY56 You really need to see his "unplugged" series...like a fine wine...simpler is better and better with age...;)
It's on TH-cam...;) "Stay on These Roads" is my fav "B" side track...;)
I also don’t even understand.
Really?
One of the hottest bands of the 80s. Great song. Love a-ha! ❤️❤️❤️
This is one of the most under rated songs ever.
NOTHING compares to the 80s, especially the mid-years.
How I miss them.
The good days best music
Maria Benetti '60 & '70 were better that '80
always
@@pitrick7037 70s was great too. Usually it all comes down to what decade to grew into adulthood. High school and college years are when young adults bond with their friends over common musical interests.
Maria Benetti I’ve seen you twice tonight lol. Having a memory storm here.
80’s are so dominant….2024 still listening to
That's true I was born 90's but still come back to masterpieces.1990 still loves it ❤😂
So much synth pop in the early 80s was ahead of its time: OMD, Visage, Gary Numan, Ultravox etc.
Cuándo vienen a Perú ❤
Yeah! I‘m with u! 80‘s are the decade of the greatest Music of our Time.
I think they have to be one of the most, if not the most, underrated bands in history!
We hear this band in México and of course one of my favorites
The lyrics are superb
A-ha = Love
The best song by a-ha. No disrespect to any other song of theirs but this song is amazing. Beautiful, dark, sad, etc. Such a great chorus and keyboard melody.
Excuse me but "Stay On These Roads" seems even better. Dreamy, and all kinds of stuff...
Yes, the really greatest songs still remain timeless and are all part that of which forms that musical legacy we all become...
Brendan O' Neil
The video just wouldn't work in technicolour.
Take on me is the best imo not just for the memes
ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS IN ROCK HISTORY STILL KICKS ASSES ON JUNE 30 2020
A-ha is no one hit wonder. This song is just as great as Take On Me.
Hes a two-hit wonder
Actually they are only considered a one-hit-wonder by some uninformed Americans, they had a lot of hits all over the world. In 2019/2020 they are performing a Tour on nearly all continents.
Gordon F idiot! Go and do some research!
I BEEN LOOSING YOU Y EARLY MORNING SON LAS MEJORES.
@@DVDBW I love that song too
Manhattan skyline, Hunting high and low, I've losing you, Lifelines, and more... believe me they have a bunch of excelent songs.
Always loved this.
Current artists can sample all they want. One thing they WONT ressurect is the magic of the Era which has been and gone. We had it good in the 80's. Real good.
@Danny Dircio The future may surprise us, and i'm open to it. For now - I'll be happy to reminisce.
The 80s for me are unforgetable. I had the pleasure to live and enjoy those years
@John Bold lplqjiero
the best days, musically wished was still there .....
Magic. That's it
